[Q] CM7 RC 1.5, help with MMS - Defy General

Just flash my Defy with CM7 RC 1.5. It is very good, i am now happy.
Only one problem for now, can't send and receive any MMS message.
It is always: Currently unable to sent your message. It will be sent when service became available.
Checked APN, baseband, everything is OK. Also flash new nigthly, but without any result.
Any solution?
Tnx

Nordic works fine
After flashing nordic (step one, flashing CM 7 RC 1.5), i was able to send and receive MMS, but again, on CM 7 same error.
Please, anybody?
Tnx

I'm on same build and I have just tested sendind myself a MMS: works fine.
Just make sure that data is enabled and if you use DroidWall that you did not check the 3G/Data box of 'Messaging' or 'Any applications' [in the blacklist mode].

I also have problems receiving mms.
I received them because of froyo without 3g connection?

i have the same problem, and i do not know how to fix it.
PS, maybe it related to the setting "Data enable(enable data access over Mobile network)", i disabled it, if enable, huge data will transport and cost a lot.

Well, without [Wireless & networks/Mobile networks/Data enabled] checked you will will not be able to send MMS: plain and simple. You want to send a picture over your 2G phone carrier: yes there will be fees for that.
You don't want any other things to use 2G data while you send your MMS: fair enough! So now you have to learn how to do that.
So you could spend some time going through each and every application and service on your phone that might do so and disable any automatic updating: for emails, facebook, Market ads and what not... but it could be tedious.
The easiest way for you to achieve this would be to use Droidwall [like I originally referrred to above ]. In there you will find 2 modes: 1- black list that blocks selected apks to access either wifi or 3G/data and 2- white list that does the opposite.
So install Droidwall [free from Market], make sure you select black list mode on top. And oh! you need root to use this so make sure that you also click "Allow" and check the 'remember' box when you see the Superuser permission request screen the first time.
Once that is done, seleck/check everything on the second column EXCEPT "Messaging" AND the first box called "(Any application)- Same as selecting all applications"
Additionally, select any application from the first column that you KNOW should not access internet at all (on wifi this time) --> as a bonus, doing so will block any ads from those free applications
Press the menu button and press "Apply rules" [or "save rules" the first time??] and make sure that you see "Firewall enabled" with a green line through it.
On the picture attached, you can see that I've selected the (Any application) for 3G/data instead of all except the 2 I told you. I leave it that way to block all data and when I need to send MMS, I unchecked it (and press "apply rules") for just the short time of sending the message then I re-enable it afterwards.
Any other questions? Lol - just joking I'm no Android help line hehe!
But I hope that this helped you guys; if so, you can log-in and hit that "Thanks" button here bellow: -->

MMS Messaging for 3VOLUTION SERIES 3VO.1.40.070109 ?

I've installed the 3VOLUTION SERIES 3VO.1.40.070109 and I noticed that although I can configure the MMS settings in GPRS, I can't configure the additional options required in the MMS settings (per T-Mobile's instructions) as these options do not exist.
I also tried the ArcSoft software, although it installs it seems to be only designed for PPC's or Windows Mobile Professional as the menus bleed beneath the S621's screen size. Although I was able to configure it, I couldn't confirm my settings and exit the screen.
I also tried the later ROM, but I experienced too many issues with my Internet connections that I didn't experience with the earlier ROM.
Are there any options for establishing the required MMS settings with this ROM or is there a WM6 Standard version of ArcSoft that I could use to enable MMS settings to work?
Thank you,
Tim
what countries tmobile mms setting do you need? perhaps then we can help find you a solution. you should be using the 3VO.2.00.071809 release since it is the most recent and is nearly flawless. although ookba had made and additional settings cab for earlier version for mms setting. i'll send you the cab in a pm if you don't want to reflash to the newest version
I have T-Mobile USA, came over with my HTC-S621 from Suncom. The settings are configured in the 'settings, connection, gprs area'. But in the actual MMS area which is now threaded with SMS, there is no longer an option to input the required settings. The option just no longer exists... must be a 6.5 feature or something.
Thank you,
Tim
attached cab here since i couldn't send it to you.
Thank you! I'll try it out and let you know.

if it doesn't work you should reflash to the latest version and set you connection setting the tmobile usa. it should fix everything from that point. i got my phone in israel and the settings work fine with tmobile usa. additionally if you don't want to flash again reset you connection with the connection setup found in the start menu and restart your phone.
I installed the update, but the '3VO Settings Update.cab' file doesn't seem to address the missing MMS settings field.
Here are the T-Mobile instructions.
T-Mobile MMS Settings:
Setting up the data account <---- This portion is available for setup.
1. Tap Start.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap on the Connections tab.
4. Tap the Connections icon.
5. Tap Add a new modem connection under T-Mobile GPRS.
6. Enter PictureMessaging in the Enter a name for the connection field.
7. Tap to select Cellular Line (GPRS) from the Select a modem drop down list.
8. Tap Next.
9. Enter wap.voicestream.com in the Access point name field.
10. Tap Next.
11. Tap Finish.
Setting up the MMS profile <--- this part isn't available in the new ROM.
1. Tap Start again.
2. Tap Messaging.
3. Tap Menu.
4. Tap MMS Configuration.
5. Tap the Servers tab.
6. Tap New.
7. Enter PictureMessaging in the Server Name field.
8. Enter 216.155.165.050 in the Gateway field.
9. Enter 8080 in the Port number field.
10. Enter http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms in the Server address field.
11. Tap to select T-Mobile GPRS from the Connect via drop down list.
12. Tap to select WAP 2.0 from the WAP Version dropdown.
13. Tap OK.
14. Scroll to PictureMessaging and tap Set As Default.
15. Tap OK.
The new MMS profile is now configured and ready for use.
Any other ideas?
Thank you,
Tim
These are not present in the NRG27 Energy 6.5 ROM either. This is the first I heard of these setting too. Although that does not mean much since I have never used picture messages.
I just go to start/accessories and run the connection setup, set my phone to USA and T-mobile and it works as it should...my MMS messages go through just fine
Maybe posting this in the correct thread would be a good idea??
There is a "MMS Settings" selection in Settings.

I posted it here because once a thread gets as large as yours a post can get lost in the 'noise'.
I did look for a MMS Settings page under settings, but I can't find one. I also tried the Internet Connections Wizard but that didn't work for me. In fact, using that messed up my other connections.
I used my SbBackup to restore it back so that my Internet would work again. However, I really don't think it's necessarily your ROM, I think that perhaps my SUNCOM Sim Chip doesn't want to cooperate with T-Mobile or something.
But I was hoping to find the menu page to configure the settings in MMS to try again, but it seems in WM6.5, Microsoft didn't think they were needed.
I would just run into a T-Mobile store and see if they could help me, but I don't think they would want to help me since I'm not on a ROM that they'd customarily support.
With exception to the MMS, everything else is working great!
Thank you,
Tim

the reason why people think that a post will get lost inside of any thread is 'cause people don't search, or search inside a thread. If a thread has 100 pages and anyone has a question, but doesn't want to sit thru 100 pages, they should use the search this thread feature a the top, that's available when you're reading a thread, you do a search like any other time except this feature will only search inside the opened thread.
By making multiple threads with different questions about the same rom, app, system, bug, whatever, all it does when someone actually does a search, it gives them that many more results , that are gonna have to be read in order to find the answer.
That's the main reason for all of us to encourage everyone to please post questions on the proper thread, instead of making a new one.

Some tweaks that could "change" HD mini...

1. Change the small clock on taskbar with "X" to be possible to close running applications (there is already a big clock on the screen...)
2. Change the "Phone" soft button with some "Action screen"
3. Stop "Data connection" activity when the device is locked
4. Change the icons in "Call History", now is black and white, it will be more easy to "filter" the missed calls (red), outgoing calls (blue), incomming calls (green).
5. When phone is locked, to have some preview for missed call, messages, sms; this should be done without unlocking, just pushing the bottom icons on the screen.
That's it for the moment...
Thanks anyone that could help
6. Integrate a nice looking SMS threaded app.

fixed
Point 1 partially fixed with "MMTaskManager v2.3", thanks to Maximus.Mobile!
Point 4 fixed with "ColorManilaCallsTab" from gabbana-music (many thanks for this to maestro!).
Point 5 fixed with "BsBTweaks v1.6", thanks to makeveral!
Changed even the original action for long-press power button (turn-off device) with a nice menu with multiple choises: turn-off, restart, sleep, etc. Thanks for this to petititi and his app "QuickShutdown v1.5.5c"
Remains only one problem, point 3!
In the past I had an HTC Diamond and S2U2 unlock app witch terminate the data connection when the device locks, maybe this could help... Ofcourse, I prefer the original lock of the Mini because is so simple and efficient!
This almost fixed the point 3:
"""
Enable Auto Data Disconnect for Auto Email Downloads and Other Downloads

Modify the following reg edit to have data disconnect after 60 seconds. You can test this by tapping on the notfification bar while downloading emails and watch the data connection close after idle for 60 seconds. Please note. Data connection will NOT auto disconnect if you have any HTC Sense auto download enabled such as Weather, Twitter, Stocks, Facebook or Time Sync. Please set these apps to manual download only. Please note that this setting has the possible effect of disabling simultaneous voice and data on some devices, even if you are on a capable network and signal.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime = 60
SuspendResume = should be blank. Delete "~GPRS!" text.

This tweak works fine for Internet and Email connections, only for weather doesn't want to disconnect after 60 seconds...

Sorry, but you know the reg tweak will not resit a SR, right?
Instead of using this tweak, you could use a "data controller" like "no data" to terminate or not even allow the data connections including weather, etc. Btw, if you change the update settings for your weather tab & stock tabs as well as disabeling the AGPS Settings, and also take a closer look at "Location Services" and what this implies, your connections for these will also terminate after update

If SR means SoftwareReset, I don't understand your point... I modified the registry with SKTools and after many SR the phone heeps the registration without problem. After HR (HardwareReset) I'm sure it will happen.
Regarding AGPS, I don't use it, I have only Primo, Igo8 and Garmin on my phone
Can you be more specific about "data controller" like "no data" offering us some links and instructions about this?
Thank you.
how "Point 1 partially fixed with "MMTaskManager v2.3":?
Because I prefer to "Change the small clock on taskbar with "X" to be possible to close running applications (there is already a big clock on the screen...)". I still have the small clock doing nothing...
Anyway, MMTaskManager v2.3 is the best solution till now.

Hey,
I have searched for a solution but never found something. The one and only way to have close Button is the one in the softkeybar. Theirefor it's possible to activate this by regestry or any tools like BSB Tweak.

Can't add contacts

Hello. For some reason I can't add contacts anymore. When I press "add contact " is comes up with a blank screen with "save" at the bottom but no form to add the contact. It also does it if I try to add a number from the dialer as a contact. Thanks for your help.

Did you either freeze or uninstall AT&T address book? You need this to add contacts.
yes, that was it. however when I try to restore it, it doesnt seem to be working it just says "restoring app + data" and the status circle just goes around and around. been doing this like 10 mins now.
Any suggestions?

[Q] How do you disable/remove AT&T Address Book?

Every time I open my address book (or at least the first time after a reboot) I get this AT&T address book verifying subscriber status popup that takes a while to complete. I have no interest in ever using that service so how can I disable the check and just stop using it at all?
I'm guessing that the answer might be root and remove bloatware but I'm hoping there's a way to just turn it off without rooting. Don't worry I'll be rooting sooner than later but for now I'd like to just get rid of that annoying delay.
I havent got my phone yet, should have it within the next 3 hours, but have you looked through the settings, and opened up the AT&T address book app and checked the settings within that app itself?
Yeah. Not seeing any settings for it or actually any AT&T Address Book App at all.
Yeah i finally got mine a few hours ago, but i dont see any options to disable it either.
I'm guessing this will be one of those annoyances that only root can salve.

Where exactly did you "check out the programs.. scroll down to sync and disable"?
I don't see anything about AT&T address book anywhere.
I have the same issue. Every so often when I go into my phonebook I have to wait for it to check the AT&T Address Book. So now there is a huge lag to access my contacts.
Why do carriers think they should be mobile phone designers? I wish they'd just leave the designing to the people who are good at it.
Over 10 years of buying my own phones out of contract for a reason. I've only had the phone for a few hours. I wonder what other lame surprises await....
Ok, I seemed to have fixed it. Not sure which action it was because I was just doing everything I could to make it stop.
First thing I did was to turn off AT&T phonebook in my online account. Log into www.attwireless.com. Under MyAT&T tab, mouse over "Wireless" and select "Usage & Recent Activity". Scroll down to "Members Shared Usage" and click on "view details of the number you're working on. Scroll down to "Minute Detail" and right under that is "Phonebook" with the option to turn it on or off.
At the same time I was doing a lot of flailing around in the the phone. I was Settings page in Contacts and I deleted all the AT&T BS contacts it auto inserted into the phone.
I rebooted and it stopped trying to access that AT&T phonebook. Hope this helps.
1. system setting
2. app manager
3. click on the phone book
4. force stop
Now it will stop and the icon will be removed from the app list. You can do this for all of the apps that will not uninstall till we get root.

In step 3 when you say "the phone book" do you mean the app called Contacts that has an icon that looks like a phone book? When I disable that app my phone dialer icon disappeared making it so I couldn't dial out. Had to re-enable it.
Otherwise, I dont have an app named Phone Book.

Hi I just got my phone the same thing happened. I let it load (the second time it happened the first time I hit cancel). I got a page that was basically an ad for att's backup service, I scolled down to the bottom and clicked on close (or whatever the button did say). Now when I start contacts no more "checking subscriber status etc".
I have not rebooted yet but will and if it comes back I'll post, if it doesn't then at least on my Galaxy SIII it was a one time event.

Question How do I change this pop up setting?

I want the messages to stop appearing on the screen when I receive them. I try to change from here, but nothing opens to choose another option. I also reset in the developer menu but nothing changes. After many years on Samsung, it seems to me that everything is messed up here. Thank you
I assume you mean with the google messages app. Not many options in the app but if you long press the icon and choose app info -> notifications -> additional settings -> bubbles there is an option for "nothing can bubble". Try that.
I don't use the google app or have the phone on a sim yet, so I can't verify. Please report back if it works.

Thanks for the reply. It is correct what you say and that is how it should be. I know I have to walk here BUT I CAN'T. The phone (software) doesn't let me choose anything else when I press "importance"! Do not open other options! Not to show anything in the balloon was already activated. I've had the phone for 6 days and as much as I like how it looks (the only reason I bought it) the software is a joke. I am totally disappointed. I am seriously thinking of returning it. Apart from the cameras, I really consider it successful. But the software is bad.
I tried to change the setting to only one person, but it still doesn't work.
Sorry for bad english ! Google translate.
I installed and tried another messaging application from the PlayStore and I was able to set other notifications! The default application (from google) does not allow you to set other priorities.
Disappointing!
