New Mango phones from AT&T!!! - Windows Phone 7 General

4G with FFC
http://www.informationweek.com/news/mobility/smart_phones/231601228
I apologize for the duplicate post, just noticing now.

It's HSPA+ only, not HSPA+/LTE.
Which is a bit of a bummer, since AT&T is about to start rolling out it's LTE at a higher pace, now.

new WP7 for ATT in the near future??

i spoke to a guy at ATT the other day and he told me that theyre going to be releasing a new wp7 for att in late march/ early april...
its supposed to be 4g the whole 9 yards i guess..
has anybody else heard of this or have any details on it??
im running 2g on an unlocked tmobile hd7 and its be good to have a similiar phone running on H+ or at least 3g
Haven't heard anything myself. If they do, I just hope its an HTC solid body.
I read a rumor on a site(WMpower?) that the hd7 may be coming. Don't know if that would help you out though
Well.... the focus can do 4g speeds right now they just have it throttled down by default. So technically ATT already has a wp7 4g phone.
Focus 4G speed settings
I can tell you this much... Both my wife and I have the focus and after I applied the changes I was getting speeds on mobile speed test roughly 2 times faster then she was.... I was getting speeds between 2000 kbps (just under what they have 4G speeds at) and around 3000 kbps or more (well over what they have listed as 4G)
I just did a speed test a second ago and I'm at 2336 kbps.. my wife's is under 1000... same place.. same phone... way WAY different speeds

That's a bit misleading. The specs on the Samsung Focus state that it has HSDPA and HSUPA support, which equate to HSPA when both are enabled.
4G is considered to be LTE or WiMax (and even still, those technologies are considered pre-4G). The problem is that T-Mobile is marketing their HSPA+ network as a 4G network. Currently, Sprint has a 4G roadmap using Clear's WiMax network. Verizon has already begun building out their LTE network. AT&T is wrapping up their HSPA+ rollout before they begin on the LTE network. Since they are late in the marketing game, AT&T has gone to T-Mobile's level and marketed their HSPA+ network as 4G.
Ultimately, out of the 4 carriers above, T-Mobile will shoot themselves in the foot by not having a true 4G rollout plan and relying on marketing their HSPA+ network as 4G.
Bottomline -- Samsung Focus supports HSPA, not HSPA+ or LTE.
Michael.

16GB version huh? The price will probably undercut the VZW version..
Then that explains the Sprint Nexus thread from yesterday. Too ouSprint advertises it with LTE even though Sprint has no LTE network yet and will be in at most 4 mid sized markets by July.
I just left Sprint for Verizon for the Nexus and LTE. I have banned Sprint for life becuase of thet horrible Wimax service. It will take Sprint several years to get LTE to the coverage level Verizon has today. And by then....
Sprint said that everywhere that has 3G will have LTE, and if I'm not mistaken, the roll-out is to be completed by the end of this year. However, where I live in CA, I have 4G everywhere anyway.
cool, but after whole Wimax rollout, or lack there of..... I'm sticking with Verizon.

I feel the same way. Sprint is just too late getting into the game to be competitive for at least another 2+ years.
EDIT: Just noticed they are specifically saying it will come with Google Wallet...
These talks of being late to the game are absurd. Sprint was first with 3G, first with 4G, and will be first with LTE-Advanced. Just because they didn't cover where you live doesn't mean tons of people weren't covered.
I thought the agreement was already made for Sprint to utilize Verizons LTE as they do 3G now?

not absurd. If they want to compete with Verizon, they better damn well compete, not just be first to do something then allow Verizon to blow by them like they're standing still.
They are competing. That's why they're going to be rolling out their LTE network so fast. http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/sprint-converts-its-cdma-network-to-lte/?m=false

Verizon LTE rollout begins: December 2010.
Sprint's LTE rollout begins: Mid 2012.
I'd say that's pretty late considering Verizon has LTE in like 190 cities right now.
Sprints rollout already began, and you act like Sprints been stuck on 3G since then. They haven't, we've had 4G for years.

Dude, I've had Sprint for over 4 years. Now I have Verizon. Compared to the overall coverage and consistent network speeds, Sprint BLOWS.
Yeah well i was a total Sprint "fanboy" for quite a while... was a customer since 2000 until last month.
After putting up terrible 3g speeds for years and no Wimax in my area (Buffalo, NY) on my Evo 4G(paying an extra $15 a month for having a 4G phone), and a Nexus S 4G, and then an Evo 3D.... i finally had enough.
Verizon has been fantastic and i don't see any reason to go to Sprint at any time in the foreseeable future.
BTW, i'm not arguing, Sprint is probably great in some areas. That was a bit of venting, from all the years of crap on Sprint in Buffalo, NY. lol.
Just ditched Sprint for the Verizon Nexus. I'll totally consider going back to Sprint in another 19.25 months if this whole network vision thing actually plays out like they say it will.

I am pretty sure we still don't have 4G in Greater Metro Detroit area with Sprint, where as Verizon' LTE was launched later than Sprint's WiMAX and already covered the area pretty well...

As I said earlier, just because you don't have it doesn't mean other people don't.
Sprint's marketing campaign has a Popeye influence: "we will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

You've had WiMax in very limited capacity with very little real-world availability since mid 2010. That isn't "years" of having 4G.
Look at it whatever way you want, Sprint is never going to be able to keep up or roll out LTE as fast as Verizon. They don't have the money to do it. They're talking about their first markets (only 4) in "mid 2012". And it will require all new devices because its not compatible with current WiMax ones. They would have to launch 100's of markets in 2012 to match Verizon.

Sprint galaxy nexus users

The sprint Galaxy Nexus will be launched soon, and I was wondering who will be looking to buy this phone. Since the 1st launch specs have mysteriously been pulled it seems there is no official knowledge of whether there will be a 1.5 cpu, or the same specs as the Verizon version. Sprint's newer ad's only show a picture of the phone with vague basic information.
We know that LTE is not rolling out for a while, bu we still bought the EVO 4G. We also know that the LTE band probably will change in the future, but my Photon is still getting Wimax 4G when I am in NYC. I am looking for my 1st Google experience, with a great display, and NFC. I also hope that the antenna, and GPS issues are fixed!
Man can't believe there gonna real ease this phone on sprint I feel bad for anyone that gets it in the phoenix area

I think its pretty safe to assume it will be 1.2ghz.
Google isn't going to want to fragment their baby in that manner.
If I was still on Sprint I would get it. Well I did get it but jumped to Verizon for it. Now I have a great phone on a great network...
Don't know what GPS issues you are talking about either...GPS is totally fine on the device.
As far as radios, seems like there might have been some bad hardware. If your device isn't defective then the radio's are just fine...
I think Sprint's version will have other issues it might face as a first device on a brand new LTE network.
I don't think there will be any LTE issues for it on Sprint. After all, it will be available almost nowhere to be able to have it drop or be unstable. /potshot

Haha...good point
i'm confident that this will be the same exact version as the Verizon CDMA variant. no gpu updates/no 1.5 clock/no LTE. these are always pipe dreamed whenever a carrier releases it after another has had it. Sammy aint puttin in any more into a phone that wont be a top seller anyway. because only 10-15% of the droid population even know what the nexus is. Apple/HTC/MOTO will get those newbie sales.
pretty much buying this phone cuz i love my nexus S 4g, and just looking for a more capable hardware to run ICS
the 3g will suck like it does now/the LTE rollout will be shaky at best/and no wimax to bail out the crappy 3g speeds
My expectations are right where they need to be. I bought the evo 4g on launch day and after that i learned "it is what it is."
but my major buying point of this over the coveted SGSIII is the fact that i KNOW the GN will run the next iteration of android (Jelly Bean?) before any phone that released this generation will. Ive been around long enough to realize that only newer/vanilla phones get the upgrades. (2.2/2.3/4.0) say what you want about the nexus s, but it was first to run ICS officially/unofficially. meanwhile people with the best hardware spec'd phone SGSII/Epic Touch are running BETAs of it at best...
so the GN will still be relevant a year from now. just the nexus s is still relevant to any1 not on verizion or whoever copped the EU version.
Just sad how late its coming out. And even still, LTE will be a joke for the next year at least on Sprint.
I made the mistake of buying the Evo 4G on launch day expecting WiMax to be good. Wouldn't make that mistake again.

Well Sprint's LTE markets won't even be in the double digits until 2013. And a couple years after that to be "nationwide coverage". The vast majority of Sprint's customers will be on 3G for the foreseeable future.

I haven't seen anyone else talking about the Sprint LTE. Have they just been testing it in different areas or have you seen official Sprint tests? I googled, but couldn't find anyone else talking about it. I'd be interested to see what other people's experience with it was, i.e. if it has been improving, signal strength, etc.
And sadly it lasted less than an hour. Luckily I caught it. But everything was extremely fast. It was awesome. If LTE gets full bars in my house I might consider getting rid of my internet...

And why don't I? Show me their national WiMax coverage that they rolled out in the last 2 years.... right, it doesn't exist. Same will be for LTE. Sorry, but just because Sprint says they're going to roll it out by the end of 2013 doesn't mean anything to me or any other slightly skeptical person.
Believe me, I'm pulling for them. I'd love to see Sprint step it up big time and challenge AT&T and Verizon's LTE efforts, but I find it hard to believe that Sprint will ever be able to catch up. Even if they completely covered their 3G network with LTE in that time (which they just can't physically/monetarily do), they won't be catching Verizon or even AT&T by that point.
Lol right sprint won't do it everyone forgets clear was the primary doing the rollouts and yeah. The BOD wants this to happen I am sure they will make sure it happens by the deadline or before and then once that is done they can hopefully jump it down to the 800mhz band as well. I think it will and if not 24 months from now I will move on but there are more posts of LTE then I saw of WiMAX when that started.
Not to mention other cell companies that work with sprint well one anyways atm is also helping.

When Sprint saw the writing on the wall for WiMax, they did the smart thing and stopped investing in it.
Good for them. They instead began their LTE preparations along with beginning their Network Vision deployment. They accelerated their 800mhz refarm.

Sprint has never been able to compete on coverage - 4g or otherwise. Hell, their native CDMA network is smaller than T-Mobile's network. That said, Sprint has a big ol boatload of spectrum, which means they can continue to provide unlimited data (or eventually, faster speeds) far longer than their competition can.
Now, I'm a T-Mobile customer as well as a Sprint customer, and was about to drop my Sprint line for a prepaid line, but Sprint (and T-Mobile) are on the upswing and I very much like the progress they're making.

I think Sprint could potentially do better than AT&T with their LTE rollout as AT&T seems to be going pretty slowly about it. However, VZW is lighting up more and more areas every few weeks, so I don't think anyone will catch them until VZW has started moving to another network standard. I have read that Sprint's LTE plans are very aggressive, so it could just be they are installing and testing the network in several large markets right now to turn on several cities all at once rather than just a small handful like AT&T did at the start.

Interesting theory, but Verizon and even ATT will complete their rollout before Sprint does. So by the time Sprint gets to enjoying LTE across the network, Verizon and ATT will be looking at deploying VoLTE.
They can have buttloads of spectrum, but they don't have the resources to compete with rollouts or to to advance in a timely manner. They will always be playing third base.
Heck, MetroPCS rolled out LTE before them (Verizon too, for that matter).
I managed to get a weak signal in parts of the KC metro, probably coming from the area around the Sprint Campus in Overland Park. I may drive closer later today and see what kind of speed I can get.

Possible 3G on T-Mobile/GSM Networks

First of all, check out this video right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h8MtU01JBc&feature=g-all-u
To sum it up, T-Mobile is rolling out 3G for iPhone users, which could previously only use edge.
Now as 99% of GSM users know, we can only use edge as of right now, just like the iPhone. Does this mean that we too will be able to get 3G?!
This is some pretty exciting news, hopefully some devs or people that are more knowledgeable about radios/antennas/data frequencies can elaborate more on whether or not this new 3G will be compatible with the Droid Inc 2.
