[Q] Change ROM from ext3 to ext4 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone explain to me how it is possible to change the ROM format on the device from ext3 to ext4?
What is to do to have DesireHD running on ext4 instead of ext3? Just simply convert the format will not work...
Thanks in advance!

You mean partition, yes?
Either by flashing melethron's ext4 format .zip (ext4_alignment.zip)
Or partition the card with some partition program (GParted, Easeus etc.)

i guess he was talking about the internal partition of his desire HD..all his post are in the desire hd section, he wrong forum

Oh?! That's it?
But when I'm format my SD card the ext3 partition will always exist.. how can I remove it?
I don't know how did you do the ext3, but you can do all of the things you want in GParted. (adding, removing etc.)

Ok, thanks! Both of you ;-)
Just get Partition Magic for windows. Easy peasy.
Why would you want EXT4? I have EXT3 but I want to know more about EXT4, is it better? how?

How to tell what filesystem?

Hi all, I just used CW Recovery to make a 1gb extra partition but don't know which version ext it made. Can someone provide me with some code to write in my terminal to line up my sd-card partition. Thanks.

Afaik cwm makes ext2 by default, check with 'mount' from terminal, look for sd-ext and if will say ext2/3/4 next to it.
Thanks man.
It seems that the cvm provided in the [Nightly]CM7 thread made ext4 filesystem, atleast that's what I have but it could be the data2ext mod I flashed that converted the ext2 to ext4, I don't know.
More chance that the data2ext mod formated your partition with ext4

[Q] Partitioning for D2Ext

Hey guys i have a question that no1 did answer in any Sense HD rom tread i posted, namely it's to do with the partitioning of the Sdcard for D2ext Roms'.Almost all dev's say that u need to partition it accordingly to fat32 (w/e GB) + ~1gb Ext4 + 0.1 GB Ext4 + 0.1Gb Swap... or similar.
now my question is...do i really need a Swap partition? and how to get the 2 ext4 partitions, cuz i do my formating via MiniTool Partition Wizard ,and it doesnt have an ext4 support...?
WEll there's a reason why i mentioned MiniTool and not Gparted...i can only use the lather ,that's why i asked. But ok.

Apps2sd using sd-ext CM7

Hi,
I have created a separate partition on my SD card for sd-ext and formatted it using pc (Ubuntu) to ext4 then ext3 then ext2 and used Recovery to format sd-ext but whilst apps2sd works, the app is stored on the main FAT32 partition rather than the sd-ext.
Is this still possible to do? I know that apps2sd working using the primary partition is still apps2sd but I would prefer them to use the sd-ext partition.
Many thanks.
p.s. all relevant info is in sig.

[Q] ext4 vs ext3 for sdext partition?

Is there any major difference between an ext3 partition on one's sd card and an ext4 one? Is there any point in converting an ext3 to and ext4 (using 4ext recovery)?
Also, if I did this, can I restore a backup made from my old ext3 partition into an ext4?
Edit: This has been covered before, I only just spotted the suggested existing threads feature. Damned if I can find the way to delete this thread though.
