Hi,
I have created a separate partition on my SD card for sd-ext and formatted it using pc (Ubuntu) to ext4 then ext3 then ext2 and used Recovery to format sd-ext but whilst apps2sd works, the app is stored on the main FAT32 partition rather than the sd-ext.
Is this still possible to do? I know that apps2sd working using the primary partition is still apps2sd but I would prefer them to use the sd-ext partition.
Many thanks.
p.s. all relevant info is in sig.

Hey guys I am using my sdcard from my G1 with an ext3 (maybe ext4) partition, a swap partition, and a fat32 partition. Should I format and just leave the fat32 partition? or should I just delete the swap partition? I figure I won't need it since the Vision has 512mb ram. Thank you.
you also don't need the ext since you have nearly 2gb of storage accessible to you.
format to just fat32 and you'll be golden
Okay this is really driving me crazy. I have a bunch of custom ROMs on my system and none of them recognize the ext3 (or ext4) partitions on my SD card. I know for a fact that all of them support the sd-ext partitions. (Obviously, I am doing this for A2SD usability)
I have MIUI 1.7.1, CM 7.0.3 and HiApk (with sensefun) v1.1.
I tried creating an ext3 partition in the beginning of the SD card like this,
400MB ext3 (primary) | 1.6GB fat32 (primary)
I tried doing it the other way round too, like this ->
1.6GB fat32 (primary) | 400MB ext3 (primary)
Neither works. I am using GParted on my Linuxbox to do this. What is the problem ? and how do I solve it ?
I have read quite a bit on all this and none of it is straightforward. Can someone explain it to me, like a 10year old ?
Go to into recovery and partition your sd card there.

Click to collapse
I can show you how... check my signature... there`s two youtube guides.
One with Gparted, and one with Minitools.
Enjoy.
how do you know it is not working?
the EXT doesnt add up storage space in 'internal storage' in android settings
you have to use Quick System Info from android market to check if a2sd+ is working
and also
the correct partition layout is FAT32 and then (after fat) EXT partition not the other way.
also try with 512mb ext partition.
To see the ext partition, you can either connect your phone to linux or use an explorer which has root access.

Thank you people ! Yup, got the partition working. Also, thanks to dzumagos for the tip on how to see the ext partition space.
Can someone explain to me how it is possible to change the ROM format on the device from ext3 to ext4?
What is to do to have DesireHD running on ext4 instead of ext3? Just simply convert the format will not work...
Thanks in advance!
You mean partition, yes?
Either by flashing melethron's ext4 format .zip (ext4_alignment.zip)
Or partition the card with some partition program (GParted, Easeus etc.)
i guess he was talking about the internal partition of his desire HD..all his post are in the desire hd section, he wrong forum
Hi, I have already partitioned my 8gb SD card. I made 1 FAT32 Partition with 1.3gb of unused space, while i used the left memory to make a EXT4 partition with around 6.5gb.... My question is, why the second partition is invisible in windows, and where should i put my music and stuff...... Also, Link2SD says that it can't mount the script because of an invalid argument... Please help me fix this..... I'm using HenseMod6 by the way
Around 1-2 GB of Ext partition is enough. Ext* partitions are linux filesystems and cannot be read by windows. Your music and photos should go on the fat partition.
Your rom may not support ext4, try reformatting it to ext3
Thanks, mate. My ClockworkMod Recovery helped mi fix it..
Hi,
I used this guide (cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_Xperia_Play_%28GSM%29:_Full_Update_Guide) to install CM9 on my Xperia Play. After everything worked out well I decided to "extend" my external memory by using s2e and an ext3 partition. First I created a big primary fat32 (~29GB) partition and then a primary ext3 partition (~1.5GB) on my sd card. Now the problem: s2e doesn't recognize this ext3 partition. When booting to recovery it's possible to successfully use "mount /sd-ext". When booting to CM9 I can't find /mnt/sd-ext, /sd-ext or any similar mount point (Where is it or where should it be?). Just for testing purpose and because I'm not allowed to create an own mount point (Why that by the way?) I unmounted /mnt/obb and mounted my ext3 partition there by using "mount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /mnt/obb" in the Terminal Emulator and it worked.
What am I doing wrong? Why won't simple2ext recognize my ext3 partition?
I just tried link2sd and it worked. Now I'm wondering even more why s2e doesn't! Any ideas?
