I have a little question
for this point http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999796 (back to stock hboot) the user say
"THE FILE (HBOOT) I AM POSTING IS SPECIFIC FOR DESIRE Z WHICH WAS FACTORY UNLOCKED AND CAME WITH STOCK 1.34.405.5 ROM AND ONLY USE THIS HBOOT FILE AND THIS METHOD EXACTLY IF YOUR S-OFF WITH GFREE ASWELL WITH ENG-HBOOT INSTALLED..... IF ONLY ENG-HBOOT INSTALLED YOU SHOULD S-OFF VIA GFREE THAN USE THIS GUIDE....IF YOU DIDNT HAVE FACTORY UNLOCKED DESIRE WITH 1.34.405.5 ROM READ SECOND PART OF MY POST FIRST...... YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED AND IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF TURN YOUR DEVICE INTO A BRICK...."
But i don't know if "FACTORY UNLOCKED" == without operator custom ?

For other user hispeedworm tell me "FACTORY UNLOCKED" = buy without operator

Did you pay full price to use it on any carrier, or subsidized from a carrier? Unlocked means you can use it on any carrier, but if its from a carrier it means its probably locked.

How do I return Desire Z under warranty?

I have done S-OFF, PermRoot and currently overlocking on my unbranded European Desire Z, but I need to send it back to HTC to repair my phone with some hardware issue under warranty.
What do I need to do? I have seen some guides here but they are all for the T-Mobile G2, and am worried if I follow it it will brick my unbranded European Desire Z.
Just unroot and use an official image! Then everything should be fine.

BAD. NO. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
Flash a stock rooted rom first, THEN follow unrooting steps. There's a thread around here somewhere.

It's only bad if you have S-OFF only via the eng hboot (not gfree), and if you are trying to downgrade your ROM.
If you have S-OFF via gfree then you're fine, just flash the stock ROM back on. Then undo gfree via its options to set S-ON (see the Wiki).
Unfortunately my phone used the S-Off and Root using the old 'hBoot' method I followed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9143423&postcount=3
So what should I do?

What ROM are you running exactly ? If you are still on the stock ROM, and you flash the exact same version back, it will be ok.
I've made no mods prior to this. It was a brand new Desire Z so it was all stock.
Then I did the following:
Rooted and s-off via engineering hboot
Installed Visionary and applied Permroot
Installed ROM Manager for Clockworkmod
Flashed gtrab's godspeed 1.4ghz module via Clockworkmod
How should i go about this now?
Thanks.

You sure about that, Sherlock?
I'm not trying to hijack your thread so please know that but I want to make sure. I thought I could just use the unroot thread to unroot (thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971) should I need to but it seems as if I need to flash a rom now looking in this thread so just to make sure:
1) I rooted my phone via this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965
2) I installed clockwordmod and made a backup.
That's it! I'm going to freeze some apps in a min using Titanium but not uninstall them.
SO... question is, should I need to send my G2 back, what unrooting steps should I take exactly? thanks!
*edit* Ummm MORON* (me) this thread is for the Desire Z NOT G2 which is the phone I am talking about. Sorry, smh! *

[Q] Do I need a goldcard?

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post. Im a noob at this and would appreciate any advise you can give.
I have root on my dhd, It is branded i think as it has orange splash screen on boot and branding to the phone also.
I've followed the instructions on this forum "How to flash a custom rom on your desire HD, and not fail"
Radio S-off.................done
easy radio tool.exe.......done
Eng S-off.....................done
Ive tested as it describes:
ace pvt eng s-off .......correct
cid- 11111111 ...........corrrect
This is where my confusion begins, I've read that when trying to flash a branded phone (as mine is), you need to have a Goldcard.
Ive also read that if your phone has cid- 11111111 then there is no need for a goldcard and you can go ahead and start the flashing of your custom rom.
I intend to flash a custom rom and my current software version is 1.40.61.2 HBOOT is 0.85.2007
Can you advise please
Regards Jody
You have SuperCID, so there should be no need for a goldcard

You have root and s-off, your free to flash any custom rom. You only need a goldcard for stock htc roms and ota updates, but as you have superCID, you wouldnt need one for that either

[Q] About flashing back to stock rom

Hi guys, just a few questions.
1) Requirements for warranty is it just unroot it? or do i need S-On for my device?
2) Is it possible for me to use the stock rom i backed up to revert back to stock? and does that means its free to go for warranty after flashing back? Do i really need to use the RUU version stock rom?
Just these questions for the moment.
Any kind souls to help? Thanks alot!

If your device is not bricked, you need both S-On and Unroot.
If you have done Radio S-Off and Root, it is easy, just run an official RUU and you will be back to stock
If you did Eng S-Off... well that complicates things a bit and you have to use Jkoljo tool if you used to achieve Eng S-Off (I don't know about any reversing any other method), just hope you kept your Hboot backup (the one that the tool made) on the root of your SD card.
Hope that helps.
Yup, so i have an eng s-off, radio s-off and rooted device.
Does that means i need to use that Jkoljo tool you mentioned to remove eng s-off and then run an official RUU to get back to stock?
and the hBoot filename is something like this?
"hboot_original.bin"
Thanks alot for the reply here =)

The steps you should do are like this.
1. Run the 1.32 RUU and then Re-root + Radio S-Off
2. Run Jkoljo tool and reverse Eng S-Off
3. Re-Run the 1.32 RUU and you should be back to Stock with Eng S-on and Radio S-On.
PS. if you are using a branded handset you should set back the CID to the correct number (Cannot remember exactly how, but Jkoljo thread should have some info)
Ok. I get it now! Thanks alot! =)
One last question. Branded handset means?

Like carrier branded (aka locked handset). You know like Orange/Vodafone locked DHDs where they have custom RUUs and CIDs.

[Q] Assistance: Return to Stock, unroot + s-on + recovery and..?

Hi, I was planning to send my phone to the support for a problem of trackpad + hinge.
I have rooted and s-off my phone, I have clockwork recovery and eng-hboot.
I removed eng-hboot with a guide on the forum, but now I don't know what to do.
I read discordant thread:
1) "Do not flash a new official RUU/ROM/OTA if you have root and/or S-OFF"
2) htc vision wiki, return to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Unrooting_and_Returning_to_Stock
In the wiki (2) I read that I have to flash the stock PC10IMG that is is completely discordant with the thread (1) that says to not flash it.
What I have to do!?!?
I have to follow htc vision wiki?
If I remove root and if I return to s-ON can I install stock PC10IMG with RUU?
I have to make some other things to return to real stock and send my phone to the htc assistance?
(now I have installed virtuous sense 2.0, with software version 2.42.405.2)
Thank you

If you flashed a non-stock recovery (eg. CWM) there's a link in the sticky to the stock recovery; I'd push it to your device first just to be safe.

You need either a unlocked bootloader or S-Off to root a device.
If you are rooted properly then you can certainly flash Custom ROMs.
Before that go to ClockworkMod Recovery and take a complete Nandroid Backup of your current Stock ROM so that you can flash back Stock when you need.

can i install custom rom without unlocking the bootloader or i have to unlock the bootloader?
You need a rooted device to flash Custom ROM. To get rooted you need to unlock the bootloader or make S-Off.
You said that you are rooted the device with S-off. That' enough you can flash any ROM.
Still if you are not sure you rooted or not just refer this guide:

i cannot unlock bootloader because kernal version 2.6.35.10 ruu is not available on htcdev
Press <power> + Vol Down type what is displayed on your HBOOT.
If your Hboot version is 1.08.xxxx or later version you may skip the RUU Process and try to unlock the bootloader.
Follow the guide, it will help you to root.
I have Hboot Version 1.03.0000

You need to Update the bootloader thru HTCdev.com
Follow the steps carefully and patiently and update the bootloader. For RUU you have to choose according to your country/region and carrier, which matches with. But be sure to chose the right one.
You need to have installed HTC Sync, Android SDK and Java Runtime on your PC, those links are available with Guide itself.
After updating the bootloader, you need to root the device. Then install ClockworkMod Recovery, which will help you to take the Nandroid Backup of your STOCK ROM.
Thereafter if you need, can install LINK2SD which will help you to install all your apps on your SD Card. So that phone's internal memory will be increased and you can see a considrable fast with the device.

as i told u my kenral verion ruu is not listed on htc dev i have already installed clockworkmod reccovery and lind2sd
i just want to install custom rom
all guides of installing custom roms says that u have to unlock bootloader to install custom rom
If you are S-OFF, then you can just install a ROM. There is no need to unlock the bootloader.
is there a way to unlock bootloader without htcdev
is there r chances to hard brick my phone while flashing custom rom?

Hi,
Since your bootloader says S-OFF, you can try any custom ROM.
Just refer the below link, If you like it just download the ROM and Flash it. See all the features listed there. It's not available with the STOCK ROM!....
