Root - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Who knows how to create a root method for gb incredible
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

Dude, if it existed there wouldn't be new threads asking. The Unrevoked team would be the ones coming out with it, assuming they will root the Inc 2.3.
Bottom line, the OTA has been taken, root added, and flashable zip has been made in the Development forums. It's the same exact thing, so if you're unrooted and S-ON you're out of luck. Period. No flashing back, no flashing recovery, no root as of now. You're stuck on stock 2.3.

I'm sure they're already aware of GB being out, its just up to them if they want to try to get root access.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running some random CM7 nightly.

Correct, they are under no obligation to provide root access, it is merely up to them if they want to pursue it. I know that they've teamed up with AlphaRev to work on root and S-OFF for the newer phones coming out.
I don't know what to tell you as far as contacting them. They do have a website, so try that. Otherwise, anyone who accepted the 2.3 OTA with S-ON is out of luck.

Is this OP for real???

I call either language barrier or oblivious.....

....I can be a real jerk

I hope not. One would think that if he rooted, he would know about Unrevoked. Chances are, if he could root, he'd be here then asking if his phone's bricked.
MODS, this thread should be closed in my opinion.

I completely agree and also with Loonatik. If this guy doesn't have a language barrier then he is a complete idiot. And his tone from all his post make him sound very impatient kind of as if here were doing us a favor.
If I've helped you, hit the thanks button!

I don't see it happening...it would involve the unrevoked crew to have an s-on unrooted incredible with
GB and unless someone donated, pulled some insurance trick(no bueno) or there was a dev out there with said inc(chances are most if not all don't or don't care) the chances are slim to none

Why can't EVO. Get rooted?

Why is the newest EVO. So hard to root than other android phones? I had 3.3 and now upgraded to 3.7. Unrevoked doesn't work for it yet. Why is that?

It's a process to find a security hole to achieve root.
That being said, weren't you rooted previously?
That's what you get for not paying attention. Don't ever run an RUU. And this doesn't belong in the development section But I guess that's another symptom of not paying attention

Google is your friend, my friend.
If you have a new Evo you need to use an alternative method to root your phone!! The old methods and UNREVOKED will brick your phone. Here is what you need to know first.
I'm sure there are instructions here at xda to achieve the same thing but I'm not going to search it out for you. This is the method we used for a co-worker's Evo v.003
I never rooted before. And yes I do know that unrevoked worked for the older EVO and not the newer. I was just wondering what would be the cause for it being so difficult to do since other phones seem to get it solved more quickly. But thank you for your responce.

Thanks for being an ass. I ask a simple question based on what I have read, haven't tried to root because of what I read, and get talked to like a kid. I have been a member here for several years and am brand new to android. Thanks for the welcome

HTC is getting better at blocking our rooting methods. That and the update only came out a few days ago, it takes time.

REVOLUTIONARY [unrevoked/alpharev]

I am aware that they have acheived S-Off for a large amount of devices.
Will this process work for DI2 running OTA Gingerbread? Or are we unaware of what it is for at the moment?
Thank you.

Just tried on my moms with GB OTA and still fails to get root so it wont work yet
So, this question has been asked and answered a dozen times in these forums, and questions do not belong in the dev section.

[Q] How Do I downgrade my software on my incredible 2

Is there anyone out there that can help me take my inc2 and downgrade to the stock software so I can root it?

No, not yet. Once you get the Ginerbread update you are out of luck and must wait for a new rootable exploit to be discovered. Both the AlphaRev team and the Unrevoked team as well as others are actively working on trying to find new exploits.
The other choice is to find someone that has a XTC Clip diagnostic device that can be used to gain S-OFF on your device which will then allow you to install a custom recovery and custom rooted ROMs.
There is a number of threads on this. There is no way, as of now, to downgrade. The only way to get root, if you have 2.3.3, is to buy an XTC clip.
Edit..... I type too slow
I don't think anyone is actually trying. I think people just think people are trying. No one has come.out and said "hey. I'm working on it"

The devs don't normally come in these threads and post. Some people would be bugging them for ETAs, or flaming.

If you visit the Revolutionary site, there are a number of links to some of the developers that are working on GB root exploits. With a little investigation into Twitter land, you will see that they are working on several HTC devices. One of the exploits will work on the Desire S, so it is only a matter of time before they figure out how to make it work on the Incredible S/Dinc2, too.

After what happened with the froyo root, I'd be surprised if the root devs ever came into these forums again. They will probably not say anything until they have a working method.

Wow!! No wonder they have n00b videos and posting restrictions in place!
Look in the inc 2 forums at rootzwiki. there's a sticky on downgrading (how to)
Sent from my rooted GB ADR6350
That is only for those with S-OFF via AlpharevX to downgrade back to Froyo and the stock boot loader. You need to be S-OFF and, correct me if i'm wrong, will still be S-OFF after the downgrade. It will not work if you're S-ON with GB, unfortunately.

[Q] Root for Android 2.3.3

How long do you think it will take for a ROOT to come out for the Android 2.3.3?
Between now and the end of time.
We don't know and asking for etas won't get you anywhere.

I don't know... but glad someone finally thought to ask!
(sike!)
i am patiently waiting. I miss my old evo rooted. I was actually given a brand new evo that had 2.2 on it and the ota showed up and without thinking i updated. So mad about that.
Thanks, I'll be patient.
I understand this is hard work and you guys are doing it all for love (or for something other than money), so I'm not going to add my voice to the chorus asking when the root solution for 2.3.3 will be ready--even though I'm a-yearning and a-craving to upgrade and re-root my phone. I'll just say thanks for now to all you geniuses for making these phones so much better!
Hope it's soon because I'm ready I just got my evo 4g yesterday and tried to superoneclick root and z4root and it didn't work.. Never thought to check and see if 2.3 can root. Damn
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
the more people ask, the less likely it will be done!
And if you had searched, you would have seen this has already been asked!
I bet root will be available when you stop making new accounts just to make the same thread asking the same question over and over again.
If anything, the devs are probably getting tired of the obnoxious kids in the Evo forums badgering them. Instead of trying harder, I'd give up if I were in their shoes.
Believe it or not, there are worst things than not being able to root your phone.

There's tons of threads how to root your phone, its not hard to find.... and bumping your thread every 2 hours isn't gonna get anyone to give u a handout when you could simply use your Google Fu and find your answer rather quick. Root evo 4g 2.3.5 ...oh wow look the answer but let me make a thread wait 2 hours and bump it instead of taking 2 mins to use Google

Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
There is no temp root you just need to root :-| you have to use htcdev to unlock the bootloader and then fastboot flash a recovery and then flash superuser and its binary files and if you Googled or even looked around in general and q&a you would know how to do this because its been asked and answered at least 2 dozen times since the OTA was pushed

Like he said, no temp root. Go all in and make the plunge, its well worth it.

Easier to ask for forgiveness than it is for permission ;-) Besides, as long as the sprint worker doesn't know how to check your root, you're fine. Find someone stupid.
I've never used an s-on tool to remove my root but i'm sure you could manage getting your phone back to normal. if you ever need to use your warranty. And your Dad will never have to know.

TacoRoot can temp root your device, but you can't really use your device while it's rooted (it makes it unstable). But feel free to try it, if you'd like.
Ok thanks
