It's been 2 weeks now -- I've tried everything:
Use TW instead of Launcher Pro (do I have to uninstall launcher pro???)
Uninstall / Reinstall software & drivers
I have done almost everything... nothing works.
When I connect the USB, and I select Keis, the phone just goes black, then pops up the USB picture, goes black, then pops up the USB picture, over and over
I would give $10 paypal to anyone who can get my Keis working.
How else am I gonna be able to update my phone to the new firm ware? to Froyo?
I'm using Bell i9000m
The only thing that works for me is to reboot the phone (holding the power button to untill it restarts) and then after the phone is fully functional/loaded put in the usb and choose kies.. and then mine connects perfectly..
Hope this helps!
-TB-
Use TWLauncher no need to uninstall LP
Turn OFF Bluetooth and Sync. I find this easiest if I put the power widget on the desktop.
Open Kies and plug in USB
This is how I do it and it works every time.
I've tried everything. I'm dieing over here. If I can't connect to Keis, how the hell am I gonna get an updated firm ware ? or Froyo when it comes out ?
Im screwed.
windows 7 64 bit btw
Backup your internal SD card(put the phone in mass storage mode or something like that)
Remove your external SD card if any.
Unmount your internal SD card and format it.
Reboot and try connecting ti to Kies.
It's really weird, and I don't know why it works, but that's the fix that I've seen around and it worked for me.

Froyo 2.2 will probably be made available for installing via ODIN from here or Samsung-firmwares.com
I don't think KIES is that urgent or important/needed.
Dgovil's method works. Try disabling your launcher first just run stock.if this fails you back up your internal sd, unmount and format note this deletes your sd data

While I was running the recovery with my laptop through a dos shell to run a fix for a ROM it started to go a little haywire and start choosing things without me pressing buttons. So, I think it might have chosen the "USB-MS toggle" but the rest worked fine during the wiping and flashing the market fix, but rebooting the phone the sd card was not recognized. Then when i would try and go into recovery since then (even after getting the SD card re-recognized by the phone after downgraded to the PC36IMG) when i go to reboot into recovery I cannot get the recovery mode to start as the device is not connected to my PC.
Further, when I plug my phone into the computer it does not even seem to know it is connected to a computer because it does not bring up the "connect as" box (and yes i have the ask me checked) and does not even seem to charge while phone is on (also tried more than one cable)
Mainly would like to know if there is a way that i can copy the files onto my SDcard directly from my PC (by putting the sd card in an sd card reader) so that I can run the recovery menu on the EVO without the laptop?
Thank you for your help anyone as I am quite stressed and upset at the moment!

sounds like you need to uninstall your htc sync and re install it to get the drivers back
Did that already. Will try again
Might help to post in the questions section not development section?
Sent from my Evo using the xda app.
adbWireless would probably be another solution.. if you have a wifi network at home
Thanks for the input all...actually seemed to have a PC36IMG that I reverted back to which did not have the ability to connect but with the help of one of the ROM developers here (vaelek) I was able to solve the problem and get it up and running again!!!!
Will certainly go to the question section next time Tejas, thanks!

Hey guys!
I was at a concert last night and took some photos/videos with my ZL. But when I tried to transfer them to my computer, I got some problems. All I did was:
> Connected my ZL to PC via usb in MTP mode
> Created a new folder in my computer
> Opened the desired folder (in this case, Internal Strorage > DCIM > 100ANDRO)
> Then, I simply dragged the 100ANDRO folder to the new one I created
But after doing this, some trouble: the 100ANDRO disappeared from my phone internal storage and appeared EMPTY inside the folder I created before. Result: I've lost all the photos and videos.
I don't even know if I'm posting on the right area, but all I want is to recover the disappeared files. Tried to google a solution. I even found it, but for that I have to root my phone, and I don't want to do this 'cause it's in warranty period yet.
Questions: Can I have my photos/videos back without rooting my phone? If I really have to root it to have my photos/videos back, what I have to do? Do someone knows what happened? PLEASE HELP MEEEE :crying:
@EDIT
Okay, I realized that the only way is rooting my phone. Can anyone explain step-to-step or indicate a thread that a noob can understand?

I'm using 4.4, with 10.5.A.0.230.
you removed device without close usb conection.
It's normal lose data when do this way.
that things were on SD, i think you'll see nomore. Or, use another ZL and copy the original files.

I didn't remove the device before I realized the trouble I was in. By the way, I've done this process so many times before and never had a problem like this, always safely removing my device.
The photos and videos were on Internal Storage. If them were on the SD card, I think I could recover the files; but since I can't connect my ZL in USB Mass Storage mode, pc applications can't scan it to try to recover the files.
I found some ways to try to recover the files w/ an application named DiskDigger, for Android. But in order to use it, I have to root my device first. Anyone ever used this app? Does it really works? What's the best, safely or simply way to root my device for a noob like me? I'm using a C6503 running 4.4 on 10.5.A.0.230 with unlocked bootloader.
why can't connect in MSC?

According to some information I found over the internet, Google disabled Mass Storage mode in newer Android versions.
settings / Xperia conectivity / usb xonectivity / USB connection mode

Yep. But the Internal Storage isn't available in Mass Storage mode, only the SD card. Since the photos I want to recover were on the internal storage, it don't works for me.
Can you indicate me the best/easier way to root my phone?

After a heavy data loss I managed to recover all my photos with DiskDigger.
Works from both, internal and external storage, it is a great app :good:

I tried to follow the instructions in the link you posted, but I have problems with the second step. It redirects me to this thread, but since I don't have recovery and can't flash the kernel that is disponibilized, I got an error that says that it cant write the boot 'cause remote command is not allowed or something like this. So, I can't flash the kernel with recovery and can't root. Some tips about this?
you must have a unlocked bootloader.
i think your is locked.
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration". If there is:
Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked

Ok, so my device allows me to unlock my bootloader... I read in somewhere here in xda that having my bootloader unlocked cause the loss of the Bravia Engine 2. Is it really true? Or it's a risk that may occur?
While updating to lollipop i accidentally relocked and unlocked the bootloader resulting in a full memory wipe but i had my college work on there so i really need to recover the data lost but upon connecting the phone to the pc it appears as "portable device" which is not detected by recovery tools as well as the android apps as the undeleter root couldn't recover the data i need so is there a way to
1- connect htc one m8 to the pc as usb storage (aka removable disk)
2- another way to recover files
Thanks in advance
The issue is that Android now mounts internal storage by MTP, as opposed to the old Mass USB storage format. So computer's can no longer read the memory like its a USB drive. I think at some point (probably not even for this phone) I saw a method to dump the files in order to perform a file recovery, but it was pretty complicated and looked like a PITA.
You can try some apps on the Play Store that claim to recover files (using the phone itself, not a computer). But I've never used any, can't vouch for them, and don't know if they really work. Also keep in mind, the more you use the phone, the higher the likelihood that the files you want will be overwritten by other data.
Good luck. But in the future you have to remember to backup important personal data before making any major changes or mods to the device. I never fail to be disappointed at how many folks never bother to backup their important data; than freak out about it once its lost. Most of the time, at that point its too late. You should have been backing it up all along. If its important to you, back it up.
Well sir thank ypu for your help i don't think ill be able not to use the phone all that long as well as im now facing that the wifi wont open which is really annoying
