Every night I charge my DHD while I sleep so it makes it through the day. The phone is always in aeroplane mode, screen off, wifi off etc.
Last night after copying files to and from my computer, with my DHD connected to my computer via USB I found it fully charged. I figured there was no point plugging it in overnight if it's only at 100%. So I unplugged it, put it on aeroplane mode locked the screen and left it overnight.
This Morning I expected a maximum of 5% drop in battery overnight but was shocked to fine 47% had trickled away overnight. I checked the battery usage in 'About Phone'. Very little was listed, things like Display with a time on of 4min, Android OS is listed with a CPU load time of 44s and 5.21KB of data sent. All of these are very small drains but at the top of the list is 'Phone Idle' which just states its been idle for 8hr and 33min.
So Why did my phone drain so much power overnight? These are the only things listed in battery use and none of them seem enough to drain almost half my battery.
I can comfirm overnight I'm sure aeroplane mode was ON, because I had to turn it off this morning.
Wi-Fi was OFF because I rarely use my phone for internet at home on my Wi-Fi, my tablet is for that.
The screen was OFF because battery usage only says 4 Minutes that it was on.
Anyone have any idea what's draining.
Try Battery Monitor Widget and look how many mA/h it drains when in idle. It should be about 1-10mA

After 1 hour of leaving it with the battery monitor with the widget on my home screen, it shows 13mA. Is this acceptable? Mobile network was on but not sending any data, the screen was off the entire time.
I will monitor overnight to see what the drain is like then.
Sounds quite okay. Don't forget to add the widget to the homescreen. Then you can check the history in the app so you can see how much it drained over night.

Left my phone is same conditions last night, only drained 7%, weird. Battery Monitor measures throughout the night 1-5mA drain. Seems normal. Just weird that it drained so much one night and hardly any another night.
Had the same problem mines was a faulty battery had htc replace it for free, they didnt ask for the old one back...

Wondering if anyone else has had any battery issues? I went to sleep last night with about 85% or more battery, and 5.5 hours later my phone was dead....when i plugged it in for like 5 minutes to call my work and tell them i was going to be late...when i got to work my phone said 45% phone idle and 45% cell standby for battery use
none here - took phone off charger about midnight, this morning after alarm rang for the full 10 minutes, it still showed 100%
i've been watching it and am really impressed with battery life - is it possible you've got a program running in the background? - i had Startup Auditor to stop apps in the background but had that from before, on my Vibrant
on the vibrant, running a predominantly black wallpaper, screen brightness at 13%, putting phone in "airplane mode" when i sleep, keeping GPS off, data sync off etc, it'd be down to 17-22% at end of day before going back on charger
this G2, running live wallpaper (thunderstorm), no efficiency moves (ie GPS off, etc), screen brightness at 50%, phone still had 34% last night before going back on the charger - and the battery has not "conditioned" - i noticed on the past 2 phones batteries life got better after the first few weeks of use.
Nothing different than my nexus...and i was thinking maybe it was a game but that should have been killed automatically and i dont think it would say phone standby and cell idle if it was an app would it?
tonite you might try putting the phone in airplane mode when you go to bed, and turn off GPS
see what happens to battery drain overnite - if it diminishes then i'd look at what apps you've installed. there was an article on engadget not too long ago that some researchers had analyzed the 358 most popular apps, and found 30 were reporting data to their "mothership" that had not declared it or asked for permission to report data.
hope that helps
well another weird thing is, that when i bought the phone and brought it home, usually it comes with half battery and thats what it showed but i had to charge it quick with no apps really installed on it yet...Im charging now and will test to see what happens with battery...i just removed off alot of my apps.... to see whats up
I'm getting about 10 hours with regular usage though I wish I knew why Photobucket keeps starting everytime i kill it.
I hope you guys charged the phone fully before you used it first. That can play a big role in battery life.
I got my phone yesterday and haven't done any calibrations yet. I've been playing with it like you normally would if you buy a new smartphone. I took it off the charger around 9pm last night and at 7:32am right now I have about 60% left. So roughly 10.5 hours later and I've only lost about 40%. I'm very impressed by that. My vibrant would have been dead by now, it rarely lasts through the night if its not on the charger.

What's your time with out signal, sounds like the 50% bug to me, google the airplane mode fix, if not you might want to look into a new radio, and you should allways recal your battery after you flash

what do you mean time without signal? and cant flash the build or radio without root(if thats what you meant) im fully charging it now and removed all of my apps...and going to see what happens from there
I've been using mine off and on mostly text, web and speedtests for 4 hours off the charger and my battery is at 91%

Hi... I have an Xplay rooted on 2.3.4 and removed light bloatware, but still my battery drains fast...
I must charge phone every day and I dont use a lot of heavy gamming... I only play in bed at night and normaly to drain the rest of the battery before charging.
I almost never use 3G, but have always wifi turned on...
So, resuming, my battery only lasts about 12h-14h per day...
As you can see, in the attachemt I have 2 times the same thing (portuguese language, but will translate):
- Inactividade do telefone 28% (Inactivity off phone)*
- Wi-Fi 21%
- Telefone inactivo 15% (Phone inactivity)*
* This 2 things arent the same?
I have a few questions:
1º - I have read about people who can have phone about 2 or 3 days, others with 20h or more. What is the most accurate and normal on this phone?
2º - If wi-fi always turned on, will drain battery?
3º - Why most off % is used when phone is inactivity?
Sometimes the phone dont loose battery when "sleeping" (it take 2h to loose 1%), but other times, when sleeping, battery drains 10% or more in one hour. I have read about a bug in Android OS that drains battery when phone sleeping. Does this bug applys in ALL ANDROID phones, or only Samsung? Read it on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290020
If I charge phone every day will get battery "addicted"?
One thing im shure: the 3 first itens on the screenshots are draining my battery whitout a reason (i can understand wi-fi, but can't understand why 2 things saying phone inactivity, uses 43% of battery)
In that screenshot, battery is on 60%, so I losted 40% in 6hours with 20 minutes of gaming... and on those 6 hours, almost half, phone was "sleeping", again, it shouldnt drain battery when sleeping.
Thanks in advance for your help
What's shown as draining your battery the most is your phone's cell standby (your 3G & 2G network, or 4G if you have it). The third on the list describes your phone when it's not in use (screen off). Don't worry about that one, a higher % only means your phone is often in standby.
Having Wi-Fi on will often use more battery than using your phone's own network. To save even more battery, turn off 3G connectivity when you're not using it (you will still receive calls, just no internet, but you use Wi-Fi anyway).
Charging your phone every day is perfectly fine, just make sure you unplug it once it hits 100%. If you leave it plugged in while it's fully charged, it gets bad for the battery after a while.
That article about the battery drain in standby is likely just for Samsung devices. What is likely draining your battery are apps and services that run in the background and use the internet while in standby.

95% of the time, 3G connection is OFF. I use Wi-fi connections, because I have many hotspots for it...
I don't have many APPs and the ones that I have installed (non-stock apps), dont run in background.
Today, I turned off wi-fi, and only turned on when need, and for more than 2 hours, only losted 1% of battery (have takken photos, and made phone calls only).
After this I used wi-fi for 20 minutes, and losted 8% off battery. So I think, Wi-fi is the problem. Please correct me if im wrong:
- If I have wi-fi always on, phone is always searching for wi-fi connections, even when sleeping, so battery drains much faster.
As you can see on the screenshot, with no wi-fi, for a little bit more than 2hours, only 1% of battery losted
Well you answered your question. Wifi is the problem. If it searches for wifi networks all of the time the battery will surely drain.
Definitely Wifi. It absolutely murders my battery when I forget to turn it off when I'm not using it.
Yes... for shure... its crazy like hell... lol... half an hour playing... half an hour surfing (youtube for my son... i put videos for him, once in a while)... and wi-fi drained more battery than gamming (FIFA 2010, Angry Birds, Spider-Man... also my son played)... funny thing, he has 20 months old, and love Xplay, more than me...
So... the hole day, I kept wi-fi turned off, and only turn it on, when needed... more than 12h latter, still have 62% off battery... and for the first time, will not charge this night...
Was so simple, as turning wi-fi off... check the screens...
Thanks all that helped
Basically when I first got my phone it would loose maybe 1-5% battery overnight and in some instances still say 100% and I could get to the evening of the next day on the same charge, only using around 40-45% battery before I went back to sleep.
Now thought it's being a right git.
Took it off charge last night and woke up to find it only on 68% battery that's way too much drain overnight, in the processes 50% of that was phone idle, of which it used 60mAh.
Wifi was on but everything was disabled in the power settings, and I have left it on before and those were the nights i usually lost about 6-7% battery but never to this level.
I have no idea what's causing it
This has been happening to a friend of mine with his G4, and we were able to 'fix' it by switching the network to CDMA only. I know that it's not really a fix, especially if you don't have Wifi and use the internet a lot, but it'll let you use your battery for at least a day.
Hi everyone, I am running HTC 10 marshmallow stock rom (My country doesnt have nougat update yet) and I faced some problem with the battery recently. I went to travel in iceland for about 2 days, and after i came back I realised a rapid drain in the battery power even during idle.
Below are a few tests that I carried out,
1. I charged my phone to full and carried out the default battery test by typing *#*#3424#*#*. The results was 6% of battery drain with screen on for 1 hour at maximum brightness in airplane mode. From the htc 10 customer service team, they said this shows that the battery wasnt faulty ( The battery is faulty if battery % drop below 70% in an hour).
2. Then i switch to safe mode to check if it was the background apps that causes the problem, even worst, the battery over night in extreme power saving mode was dropped by about 40%. I factory reset the phone.
3. The next day I do the same thing as (2), but this time with airplane mode, the battery drained over night still about 40%.
The battery usage from GSAM apps shows nothing unusual going on in the background at night.
I have to charge my phone at least twice, once before i sleep and once after i woke up, i sleep average of 7 hours a day.
My question is, since its not battery issue, after i factory reset the phone this problem shouldnt persist, can somebody explain to me before i decide whether to send in for repair? Sorry if the thread was repeated.
Attachments below shows the batter drained
This is the battery reduction graph during safe mode tests
There must be a rouge app running somewhere.
Your phone doesn't seem to be "sleeping" at all.
It's whatever is causing the extremely high (100%) awake time, that is causing your battery to drain so quick.
Would be helpful if you could send a screenshot of the main stats page on gsam. Example below: (from my M9)
My doze doesn't seem to be activating at night. Moto display turned off. I'm losing about 10% while sleeping which seems like a lot considering my s8 plus lost about half that with always on display on...
I'm also losing about 7% per hour and getting about 3hrs screen time per charge. I noticed a decrease in efficiency possibly after buying and using the Incipio wireless charging battery moto mod.
You can't judge battery drain from 100-90% once it goes below 88% that is when you get true readings. If you unplug your phone at the high 90's the charging algorithm could have had it at 92% and over those hours it just equalized itself.
I.E. I had my phone at 99% charge on the charger for an hour or two while using. The phone will still show 99% but the battery isn't getting a trickle to stay at 99% it will not get power and drop to roughly 91-93% depending on kernel then charge back up to help battery longevity but the system will still show 99% to not make the average user freak out over their battery level dropping while charged. There was a in depth post about this years ago on this site. Too lazy to search and post, but it is a simple search.
Edit: here you go, found it. It's a great read.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871051
It is a good read but not really what I am talking about. I never leave my phone on my charger at night. I charge to 100% before I go to sleep and sometimes I use for hour or two before bed. So the drain I am experiencing can't really be related to a false reading due to changing currents after a long time on the charger. Sometimes it's down to 70-80% by time I go to sleep and I am still losing that amount in drain. Dozing doesn't appear in my charts at all at night so it appears the phone is never truly dozing... But hey, I'm not a genius about all this, I just know it's not dozing and my cycles in gsam suck for an 835 processor phone even taking into account the smaller battery.
My buddy just made a good point... If I am sleeping with the battery mod connected, even if it's not "charging" maybe the connection makes the phone"think" it's charging and not doze? I'll have to test that tonight.

That makes sense and I was just going off the image showing 100-92 drain. I wouldn't have a mod on if you're not using it, it can cause drain.
