OK, So here's my story. I plugged in my charger and I went downstairs. About 3o mins later I came back and the phone was still on, and it was super hot. Im running mexdroid V2fast and i've noticed that its been getting hot every once in awhile during charges and use.
THe phone was working and I rmoved the batt and let it cool down. I turned it on later and it was still working. I saw a movie and put it on silence and after the movie my screen went black. (six hours had past since the charge.)
I've removed batt and restarted the phone numerous times but it still wont work. SO I'm taking it into TMo.
Question, should I unroot the phone so they can replace it and if so, how can I unroot it without my screen working?
Or, should I just update the radio and pull the battery out, mid update? I've read this can cause hboot failure and the phone wont even turn on.
I'd prefer to keep my phone, I don't want a newer phone that isn't rootable. What should I do?
Can you get into recovery at all? You are supposed to to use setcpu for that rom because its overclocked to the max

I still get the black screen. I do believe I have it but I didn't have it set to be overclocked all the way. I had it at 1170, something around there. I've never clocked this phone over 2k.

Okay. I made my previous statement because the first time I used the mex fast version my battery got crazy hot and freaked me out.
So black screen no matter what? If so how would you be able to see where the update process is in hboot?
Brick it dude lol..
Honestly I have no idea. Bricking it is up to you man

updating the radio is easy enough without havion to look at the screen. I just have to time it and it's not that hard.
Any other suggestions from other users?
What did you decide to do? I fell on my phone and it still works but the screen is jacked up, blacked out. I'm debating on going through the hassle of unrooting or bricking. Has anyone ever had a problem just sending it in and getting a replacement? What is the worst thing that could happen?

So I was having issues with my 4G the other day, I would turn it on, and it would just say "turning on 4g antenna" till it finally drained the battery, so I updated the wimax, (took about 2 min, if that...) and rebooted, tried 4g, and it turned on no problem. About 2 days ago, I had to do a nand backup, from before I flashed the wimax, and forgot to re-flash the wimax, so again today, while trying to use 4g, it got stuck on "turning on 4g antenna" again, so I rebooted, and still "turning on", went into nand, and wiped cache, and dalvik, and flashed the wimax zip again, it said reboot to complete the update, I did, and for the last 10 min or so, it has been on the screen with the htc phone, and green down arrow with circle around it.... I know it shouldnt take this long, so what'd I do wrong? Is it a brick now? Should I continue to let it do whatever its doin till it either finishes, or kills the battery? or pull the batt, and try a reboot?
Don't pull the battery, just give it some more time.

been about 20 min now..... how long should I wait? and then what if it wont finish on its own?
Well, it shouldn't take that long. The only way to permanently brick your phone is during a radio update, and it's kind of risky to pull the battery. But you almost don't have a choice.
Hopefully if you pull the battery, it'll finish quickly when you put it back in. You aren't guaranteed to brick it by doing so, and it isn't a radio update so I don't know if wimax will brick your phone as well. I think in your situation it'll be okay to pull the battery, but if it doesn't turn on at all after putting the battery back then it never will.
Good luck, hope it works out for you!

What does it say on the screen??
If I remember, if it says clearing cache, and has been there a long time, it's OK to reboot. Not pull the battery, just select reboot, if you can.
Been awhile since I flashed radios.
ya, after 40min, I pulled the batt, it did turn on again, but went right to the update screen (htc phone with grren arrow and circle around the arrow), cant get into fastboot, just right back to the update.... am I gonna have to tell sprint I "LOST" my phone now? lol

Dosent say anything, just a pic of the phone with the green arrows....
If it's still updating then you can try to wait it out. As far as I know, there's no way around that screen.
You can continue to pull the battery over & over. I know someone was trying to brick their phone that way and it took multiple tries to actually get it to not turn on. If you can get to that point then you can just take it into Sprint. It'll never turn on, so they'll never know. Or if you feel like you need to pay the deductible, claim it lost. It sounds like your wimax was messed up already.

Ya, I'm gonna just let it drain the battery, or start up.... whichever comes first....
Then I will prolly just keep pulling the battery till bricked.... No, I dont feel the need to pay the deductible so thanks for the tip!
I'm guessing there was something up with the wimax... IDK... Did I do anything wrong from the steps I listed above? did I forget to wipe something?
so it didnt take long to kill the battery.... lol
So, I have another battery.... I have verified that with the phone off, it does charge the battery, but no matter what I do, it goes right to the update screen... So I assume this is a brick? But... I have seen posts that if the batt charges, and the screen does come on, and show something, that its not truly bricked.... So, might I b able to do something here?
Any tips would be extremely appreciated at this point, before I really do fully brick it....
I have the EVO 4G (obviously), it is flashed to Cricket. I have been trying different radios to try and get a better signal. I've been using AMON because CW didn't seem to make the radios stay. I tried EVO_Radio_2.15.00.04.08 and it went through the process of updating, then a blue folder popped up, the phone shut off and now it won't turn on at all. I'm sure it's eff'ed, but if anyone has any help don't hesitate to post. Thank you.

How much battery did you have when you attempted the radio flash because I have a feeling the phone ran our if battery during it?

At least 50 percent. I think AMON just ****ed up or something. I'm sure it's bricked, there's no other explanation. Pretty sweet too because I just got this thing 3 days ago.

Well last resort is if you can load bootloader but seeing you can't turn on at all you have an expensive brick you can return to sprint

Isn't there something about a magic button to the bottom left of the camera (back removed)?
Thought someone said they removed their battery once and pressed it, and it magically worked.
Snake oil?

The magic was that there isn't actually a button - we also call this "coincidence" - at one point in human history, this was the basis for what we now refer to as "religion"

Just press it and pray!
In all honesty, do as others have been told. Remove the battery. Let the phone sit for 10-30 minutes. Put battery back in. Make sure you're holding the '1' key during the entire time you're holding the 'Power' button (and before).
If that doesn't work, repeat the above, but leave the battery out and plug the phone into the wall/computer perhaps just in case the battery is dead.
Also, make sure you shout "Praise Odin!" three times before you do all that. The Android voice recognition is really good.

If he was smart he would send it to Adam and get it up and running in no time, and helping the community, instead of selling for parts lol.

I had a friend at work that had to "jump start" his battery since the charging port is software controlled, and something went wrong with his ROM when upgrading.
If all else fails OP, just send your Epic over to Adam. He'll unbrick (or in other words apply the unbrickable mod) your Epic while also helping our community by having Adam check and make any last minute changes to make sure this is 100% compatible with our device

bricked epic 4g
Did the battery/sdcard pull work?
I bricked my Epic 4G Galaxy S installing the EL13 firmware. I had it rooted with CWM 5.0.2.7 (or whatever) with CleanGB 1.03 and the Samurai kernal (think it's 1.06, whichever is the latest). I was flashing it through Odin3 and it abruptly aborted and failed the transfer. I'm thinking it may have been a bad USB cable. I pulled the battery since it didn't reboot or take any button commands.

pulling sd card and battery worked for me. I have trouble w/ getting errors on Odin from time to time, altough it could be the usb cord (esp if it's Sammy's "cheap" usb cord), but I've found that when i close Odin and "re-load" the .tar and necessary .pit files, everything was peachy smooth.
Full on brick
So odin + adhd = epic FAIL. I have used odin many times, and have run several roms. While i was pushing an eco5 it got unplug at the top of the transfer and now is a total brick no power, no how, no way. Who is Adam and does he want this phone? I already ordered a new one. Tried the little hole reset, usb power, battery. Nothing its a real brick
So, when i try to lgnpst back to stock i can never get it to complete. It stays at 85% and says it lost the connection to the phone, reboot, plug it back in and press ok but it just doesn't work... What is everybody else doing to get it to go through fully to 100%?

If LGNPST errors out at 85%, turn your phone off and hold the power button until the phone powers on, then release.
This is according to PhantomPhreak53's instructions. Part of his LGNPST download from the irc.
Not sure if it'll help, but ya never know.

sometimes it stuck at 65% but after reboot suddenly jump to 85%, but completed at 85% kinda weird
Yeah Ive never seen it get to 100%. The running joke was that 67% or 85% must mean 100% in korean. That's as far as it has ever gotten for me but it has always worked if I just reboot the phone manually. Whether it's a teenybin or stock, once the phone turns back on, it's how I wanted it. Somewhere in the instructions for lgnpst on irc it even states that. It does say the phone should reboot when it gets to 85 but mine never did, I just did a hard poweroff then power back on and my phone turned on as if I had just bought it(when using a full stock bin).
