HTC reply concerning bootloader unlocking - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got this from HTC regarding unlocking the bootloader on the Desire HD, or enabling a downgrade.
Thank you for contacting us again.
I understand you wish to know how to enable root access or how to reverse the last firmware upgrade.
Regarding the root access at HTC is currently working on this. For more information on this please look at our Facebook webpage.
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=241032199259602
Regarding reversing to the last firmware upgrade, in general it can only be done at the repair centre but unfortunately the Desire HD is not listed as possible. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause to you.
I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

The Facebook page gives the official HTC policy regarding bootloader unlocking. I won't copy it here, it'll only bloat the post.
So it looks like it's on its way. They have already done this for the Desire S - see post on Desire S forum

Easiest method to root a tmobile s-on htc wildfire s

The title says it all here. I am ready to take the dive and root my tmobile htc wildfire s w/s-on. I have seen few methods floating around the web but it seems like rooting for the s-on devices was developed recently if I am not mistaken. Anyway I would truly appreciate some input on rooting my phone. What is the easiest method available for s-on devices to root my wildfire s with? Thank you for any helpful input concerning this matter.

[Q] HTC Desire questions

hello guys, im a happy new member of the desire community .
I have came from a Sony Ericsson Xperia x8, which i a little different in terms of modding your roms and radios... I have looked around the threads for a while now and not really found anything what answers my question, so sorry if there maybe a duplicate don't burn me if there is i have tried.
I know how to root my phone and the recovery installation as i had an old HTC wildfire what i broke but am not familiar with unlocking and flashing bootloaders hence why i need your help.
But i would like some help or answers regarding my HTC so here we go...
Well first of all the HTC is locked onto the orange network, i am currently on three so how could i get my phone unlocked... possibly free?
Also when i get my HTC unlocked if i flash things like new radios, roms, bootloaders ETC... will my phone remain unlocked or become locked again?
Also what is the first rom i should try out? I would want a fast one whats stable but maybe perhaps android 4.0 or above, can you guys give me some suggestions please thanks.
Ps: Sorry for the wall of text i want to make sure i get things right and don't brick my phone in the process of unlocking. :fingers-crossed:
Hey m8. Welcome I'm also new, but for our needs this page is the best, therefore i highly recommend to read this both threads, i flashed a custom ROM yesterday, so I'm very new in this, too xD

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 very good thread i also started with
I think they will give you some answers
If you got any questions, hit me up
//Edit: If you start with Froyo 2.2.2 ( I did ), the unrevoke method won't work, i used the revolutionary method successfully.
//Edit 2: I use this ROM, it's a stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 with some nice additional Updates, its very stable and superfast. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261 thats the link of the Rom, but you can get there good informations, too

[Q] Rooting HTC Desire HD

Hi All,
I am a noob or atleast newly registered to XDA but have resolved many issues over the years with your help so thank you very much for all your past help.
I have recently rooted my old htc desire without a blip, then dropped it and no amount of XDA help will resolve that issue, more rubbled than bricked...
I have an HTC Desire HD tied to orange that I want to root and flash Jellybean ROM (open to suggestion of a better ROM). Every step by step or guide I have found in a few hours of searching tells me to use AAHK but all links on all sites to the download result in a 'page no longer available' or redirect but not to a download page
I am nowhere close to truly understanding the technical side of rooting, I have a lot of respect for those that do, but I can follow directions. Without the actual software the directions don't lead anywhere so I'm at a frustrating stand still. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
I see people usually list some system info so here is mine
HTC Desire HD
Android 2.3.5
Sense 3.0
Kernel 2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1
build number 3.12.405.1 CL199157 release-keys
If anymore info is required I will get it on here asap and thanks for any help you give me, cheers

Lol.... I needed that. Been in a bad mood for nearly a week. I managed to refrain from replying a few posts today.

sorry for the newbie question but ive little to no idea when it comes to this sort of thing.
my contract is up on my HD which is on Orange network & im now wanting to put it onto Tesco & after trying the sim inside the phone it will no longer take either sim & is saying ""SIM network locked please contact customer care"" so do i need to root the phone for this to work & will it also debrand it as i no longer want the orange crap on it anymore.
thanks. for any advice :good:
I know AAHK does SIM unlock as part of the process. Then you can flash an unbranded ROM.
thank you for the quick reply..
so if i do the AAHK i should get it to accept the Tesco card at least.? that's the main thing i'd like to unbrand it but its not really an issue as long as i can get it to work on tescos network..
i paid for it unlocking today & sent off my IMEI number but they emailed me saying it can not be unlocked..?
thanks.
Even if a phone is SIM unlocked, I believe the carrier can still lock the SIM card. So whether you can use the Tesco card is up to them.
