(Request) Some way to boost GPU Performance? - Desire General

Is there anyway possible to improve the GPU performance on the HTC Desire? Cuz from what i know, the GPU performance on the HTC desire isnt really good. So is there any way to improve it?

GPU performance already IS improved. If you want to improve it even more, buy a new phone.

Thank you, Terepin, for such a helpful post! I suggest we make this the standard response for all new threads from now on: "buy a new phone!". Hell, we should even scrap the whole forum and just make a .jpg for the front page, saying: "buy a new phone!".
What would we do without you?
sebastianlow, install a ROM which has the GPU+ libraries integrated into the kernel. Those should boost 3D performance a bit.

I heard that russians connected a gtx 570 to the Desire with copper wires - and it was hell fast. Battery lasted 10 mins tough :/
But now seriously:
Kernel source is out, so new kernels coming should be improving it (if on Gingerbread).
GPU+ was for froyo, not. At least I could not see it on Sense kernels (2.3 +). BTW, AOSP roms have it integrated to thheir kernels already.

The thing is official kernel already has GPU+. Hence I said it already is improved. But yeah, GTX570 will do the trick.

Why not say that in the first place instead of a smartass comment?

Why all the picking on Terepin?
You should be going after the op for posting a question in general and not q&a.

Mmmm 10 whole minutes of gloriously warm electronic smelling air!
Anyway, I saw this thread today. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254272
It does mention GPU overclock to 83mhz. But i have NO idea what the original gpu clock is.. So.. maybe someone with more experience could check this out?

Because the entire concept of xda community is built around people helping people. And more often than not I see
Terepin making wisecracks which are of no assistance to anyone, moreso it only belittles the OPs who are just in need of a little help.

As I said, performance already is improved. And it was improved in custom kernel since FroYo. HTC included GPU+ in their GB for Desire. But OP would know that if he took the trouble to actually test it and to find info about.
You know, there is search feature for a reason. I'm not here to find out things for other lazy individuals. I do however help who deserves it.

Yeah you said that only after someone pulled you up on your wisecrack. I just think if you are gonna use energy to post something it might as well be constructive.

I agree and I think that's a bit sad really. This place has such an amazing wealth of information and intelligent members, it's the perfect place for a noob to learn all things android. Maybe the more skilled members need to stop being so high and mighty and remember that at some point in the past they too knew three fifths of nothing.

As a noob myself I've found that the best way to find things out is to search for it, simply for the fact that I don't wanna get flamed for the fact that I'm starting a new thread that all of the experienced rooters and modders think is stupid.
There are a lot of great people on here who will help and give give constructive comments, but there are a lot of people also who think that everyone should know as much as they do and have a go at people for asking questions. Sure some people don't bother to find out even the very simplest things for themselves, and they deserve a bit of moaning at. But if someone has tried for themselves, and need a bit of help why not give it to them instead of simply being sarcastic.
I joined XDA to learn and to help others (if I can), and I thought that was the whole point of the site.

That's irrelevant. Explaining how is useless and unnecessary. The fact is it is improved. Telling why won't give him, us or anyone else any advantage whatsoever. End of story.

That's like saying gravity is there because it is. Or magnets work because they do. Usually people give an explanation for their findings, so their audience have a why or how associated with the answer. I guess this is irrelevant anyway as you are clearly not in the business of helping people, you're far more interested in trying to get cheap laughs. I've wasted enough time on this, out.

[Q] FOR DEVS ONLY: Which way are you headed?!

So, as we approach the fork on the road, one leading towards the EVO 3D and the other towards the Samsung Galaxy SII, many users are left waiting to see which one of these beasts will pick up more development heat. Like myself, many folks are completely split and are solely depending on this little bit of information.
Therefore, I ask, out of developers that have made the EVO the great device that it is, where are you headed?
I KNOW THIS THREAD MIGHT BE UNCONVENTIONAL FOR THIS SECTION OF THE FORUMS, BUT PLEASE CONSIDER LEAVING IT HERE AS IT WILL BE EASIER IN GETTING THE ATTENTION OF DEVELOPERS OVER REGULAR USERS. THANKS!
Yeah just read an article today about the 3d apparently having a crypto signed bootloader. Not much developing going on with that... Without an eng leak anyhow...turned me off of it for a bit. Not that I'm a dev, I consider myself a themer really.

So is everyone that voted thus far really a "developer?" On another note, CM would likely be developed on both if a) the HTC bootloader is cracked, b) the GS2 isn't the same POS the GS1 is.
I am interested in the results of this poll as well.

Obviously not, but you know, there are always those %&$* out there. (BTW, the votes are public, so you can see where those that matter are leaning towards.)
I just figured some of the true developers will see this and guide us in a particular direction. Don't blame me for trying.
I will be getting a EVO 3D without a doubt. Bootloaders can be cracked. Might have to buy XTC to see if we can root that way. It's like the gold card method. Either way, the EVO 3D will be a mind blower and WILL be rooted.

I am getting the 3D regardless of when it'll be rooted. I am currently running stock on my OG EVO anyway. I am sure it wont hurt to go without root for a little while and have a far superior phone than the samjunk.
I'm not a dev yet, but I think if I gave myself some time I could do it. I already mod ROM's to my liking and I am a programmer. But college life usually gets to me lol I was thinking sometime this Summer to cook my own ROM up; if time permitted. If that happens then I will dev for the Evo 4G.
Unless I get some extra grant money lol then I'm not sure! A cell phone to dev is a college expense if you're a Computer Science major right

It's sad that the mods are on such a witch hunt that you even have to put that there. IMHO this is *exactly* the type of post that should be in the /dev section... along with 10-20 other daily posts that are direct questions to/for developers.

Just a forum tip

I think the development section after selecting it should then have sections for EACH version rom. ie. Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS.
So that when you are looking at what is being developed you are not diluted with newer releases of older versions when you are really trying to find the best of a specific version.
This would allow it to be more organized.
+1 Would save a lot of confusion for noobs as well. Specific mods for specific version go in that section and so on and so forth .. yeah. Like it.
well there is only gingerbread and ICS, some mods are universal so you would have to post twice? and would you split up the theme and apps section too?
Good idea. Truth is though just more places for non readers to post in the wrong sections.

This idea is irrelevant because all people have to do is read. Even if the Title doesn't say the firmware version, the OP will 9 times out of 10.
The thought is good, but in reality.....nah bro
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why the hell not? Even if the
OP does contain the firmware version, it would stop a lot of the confusion for the noobs that don't read. As for people that DO read, it would be convenient to go in a section with, say, just ICS ROMs, to check out the latest goodies instead of having to look through all the GB ROMs and other things that aren't ICS related.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If people don't read And flash and destroy....it's their fault.. There are already "please read if you're new" posts or "if you're new to ICS" posts. If people are lazy and disregard proper guided precautions to help inform everybody before they start messing with expensive phones....then a bricked phone is what you'll get.
I don't cater to the weak and lazy.

I think most people commenting are missing the point. Of course its not that important to people like us who come here often and keep up with everything.
But if you imagine the noob who means well, and is just trying to find the information that he needs, this web board is immensely cluttered.
Honestly, thats why you have so many noobs posting dumb questions and asking the same things over and over again. Most people aren't trying to clutter the forums, but when they can't find what they want quickly they give up and just start their own thread which gets on everyones nerves.
i think more sub-headings and forum breakdowns would help a lot honestly. And at the very least give mods a fresh place to police and (hopefully) control post whoring.

Oh boo hoo those poor noobs we need to hand them step by steps and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to flash rooms! Rom flashing is a basic human right and every American should get it free of hassle!
I say the free account registration inhibits minorities like the computer illiterate and old people, we should abolish this account registration so everyone has the opportunity to post anything!
In fact those poor souls who brick their phones should get new ones for free, I mean the developers get donations so they should spread the wealth around it would be better for everyone!

I find it hard to believe clutter is the reason dumb threads are started.
Raise your hand if you have seen someone post a question or news item that has already been posted less than 5 threads down in the first page of general at the time of posting.
*raises hand*
Forums sections are well explained and disclosed, even if people rant and flame at noobs, it is still a noob friendly atmosphere here, the problem also is that devs and senior members still repeat themselves overe and over trying to help noobs and besides alot of members on xda are just too lazy to read, only screwing up people learn to either not to touch or mess with something they shouldn't have mess with in first place, nobody was born knowing all, yet nobody was born brainless, if people screw up after so many threads of guides and how to's lost in limbo around the forums, let them screw up, imbeciles only see the finger that is pointig the right direction.
If stickies, guides and bibles haven't helped, it is useless to clutter this forums with more subforums
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Bottom line is everyone here was a noob...somewhere at sometime. All everyone needs to do is read people with respect and not flame.
"f_ing noob, learn to search" I'd not the way to fix things
Would you yell at a child for doing something when its an innocent mistake. I'm not saying all noobs are innocent...but you catch more flies with honey then vinegar

[Off-topic] If you see a member of higher ranks, do you instantly have more respect?

Hey guys.
I've been thinking about this, and it got me wondering..
If you see someone with a Recognized Contributor title, Recognized Developer title, or anything else higher than 'senior member' do you find yourself having more respect for those types of people versus a senior member telling you something? This applies to questions being answered, opinions, or any other given situation. If this thread gets 'popular' I'll throw up a poll.
Also, please do us all a favor and elaborate on the reason(s) why you said yes, no, or anything of the like.

Basically, if someone posts a question and it's answered properly I don't care if the answer came from a n00b or an RC. I'd be more inclined to accept an RC answer than a lesser rank if there was some doubt, though

Exactly what he said. *footnote being there are lots of senior members that if you look at their info have been members since 2007 but have very little posts and thanks. And their questions or answers very often reflect that. So I tend to look at that as well when trying to decide if I'm going to take their opinion seriously or as pertinent as someone else.

Usually respect comes out of combination of their rank, number of posts and thanks.
Also when you follow particular threads like a hawk, the members worth respecting are visible on every next page.

I mostly always use xda app so ranks/posts/thanks aren't readily visible, but even when they are known I simply respect those that are respectful. On my last phones forum I lost quite a bit of respect for some of the devs actually just for their portrayed superior attitudes. If you don't like someone coming in and asking a repeat question (which I do understand can be frustrating) just ignore them, all the flaming just intensifies the problem.
I also agree about signatures asking for thanks, while I enjoy seeing my thanks meter go up it doesn't actually mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And while I'll still give a thanks if I appreciate the post, I'm less inclined too when the person asks for it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Hell no thanks don't matter. Anyone who's ever been to OT knows that the number of thanks a member has doesn't have anything to do with how knowledgeable they are.
As far as a contributor or dev, I don't judge somebody by the color of their name, I'm not a namecist.
Anyways the majority of posts and questions are more user related, so they do not require someone with vast knowledge of coding/themeing/etc. Anyone can answer a thread like HLP BATTRY FUUUU!, not just a "higher ranked user".
Having all of the requirements and becoming recognized should grant that user immediate respect. Devs too.
Users with hella post and thanks have probably seen a thing or two so they get respect but you gotta watch some of em lol
I wouldn't "instantly" respect anyone. Respect isn't something that should be just given away, people who actually deserve it get it.
Well yeah I guess. Only higher than me is RD, RC and Moderator. Senior Member status is earned by such a small amount of posts that I think it should be raised to 1,000 posts. It should be something that takes longer to achieve.
Thanks for all of your responses guys!

i look at EVERYTHING. sig, info in the sig, posts, thanks(meaning what you were thanked for), join date and then i'll also look at past posts ... ESPECIALLY if the person is trolling. even if it wasnt intentional trolling.
there are some people tho that have 10k posts because all they post is "SEARCH" ten times or bump their friends threads all the time. and then thats why they have 100k thanks. that person i will flame til deaths end and its because they are the people that are detrimental to this community. I admit my stats arent the greatest here but mostly because i have been using forums for the past ten years and have decided I have better things in my life to pick on people that are on the internet. I don't necessarily automatically respect them, I just use the title and post count as a quick gauge of whether I should trust their opinion. That being said, I've seen a lot of people (like ben.nesheim said) that pad their post count with useless crap. There are a lot of people here that I know have high post counts that I don't trust on anything, and dread seeing their name in a thread. Then there are others that only have hundreds of posts (sometimes less) that are the most helpful and knowledgable people you'll find, they just don't post drivel. I think the title and post count are great quick indicators, but nothing more. Once you get into recognized developer or contributor territory, I give them a little more credit right off, but to me the respect still has to be earned.
And like EddyOS said, the signature tells you a LOT about a person. I make it a point not to hit the thanks button if your signature asks for it. We all know why its there, you don't need to remind me.

I would love it if every rom posting would go back to the format of what is working and not...it is hard to keep flashing roms just to see what is working or not...plus I'm sure I'm wearing out my phone flashing 5 roms in a day just to find out they all have the same flaws or not or even if it was fixed..ie does video calling work, or hml, or any other feature that this phone can normally do...remember when devs use to have 2 lists in the op and pictures so you could window shop for your rom and not have to spend the time downloading, wiping and flashing just to restore your nandroid because you don't like the look or the fact some things don't work...it would really help and it only takes a couple of minutes.....thank all of you for your time and development of this device...

Although I agree, your going tone other get zero response or (and more probable) catch flack about being demanding.
While typically, the android community development is free, everyone has became accustomed to the idea that eta's, change logs, working/not working lists are simply below them. Perhaps in their eyes it is. What I would like to remind everyone is this...time isn't limitless, and can be very valuable to some. If you don't like the community feedback (ie. Asking for these lists; small stuff) than maybe you should just (loosely) develop and/or cook ROMs for your own personal use. Xda is a community... A community built on knowledge, user base, and the good ol' boy system.
Just remember what we are here for. We all own a T989 and want to make our devices outlast even the newer models.

You're assuming that people will read and thus not need to ask. As someone who spent over a year developing for the vibrant I couldn't even count the times that I either directed someone's questions to the op that contained the answer or just ignored the questions all together. Now as just an onlooker who casually flashes I read the op and if I don't see the answer I want I watch the thread and let others ask/answer or do my own research like checking out gerrit or just move on and find something else.
When I was building ROMs I would spend hours at the computer and by the time I got around to posting my work I may have forgotten one or two things so change logs were usually only partial.
Getting the latest software on your phone while free does take a little effort on the part of the user.

I'm not asking for a change log just a simple list of what is working and not it's like 6 things and never really changes unless something is fixed...I think you guys are really missing the point...

O and about the free thing I don't ask anyone to do this for us and I certainly don't expect it but if you are going do something for a lot of people than do it right...I do a lot of free things in my life...I'm a dj for 27 years in sfla and I have to spin for free most of the time because nobody wants to pay, but that doesn't mean that I am going to do a subpar job for all my fans just because I'm not going to get paid...I do it because I love it and if someone had a request I don't say well I'm doing this for free so too bad...I hate that argument you guys always use...and I donate where appropriate....

No but if you love to do it why complain...and what does that have to do with telling me if Bluetooth, etc is working?

Well the reason this is happening is because 4.2 just came out. People are curious to know what works and what doesn't. Devs haven't had enough time to check all of the glitches and bugs. Devs also rely on us for fixing bugs because they don't always have the time to do it.
As per the same questions being asked over and over, people simply don't know what the search button does.
And yeah

Wow! Someone just makes a basic request and gives thanks to developers, and suddenly everyone is all over him and getting all defensive about developers feelings or something. How did it turn into this??
I kind of agreed with the request as far as how nice it might be to know pros and cons of each rom without reading through pages and pages of useless posts in the dev threads to find out each detail. It seems to me that most developers appreciate it when more people are using their rom (and obviously people appreciate the rom they're using) sooo...it might help people to understand what they're flashing and they might be more likely to flash a rom that they understand from a end-user point of view.
If developers don't want to add a list of what works and what doesn't to the OP, then they don't have to. If developers want to help flashers in their decision-making process (and likely boost the number of people using their rom), then adding such a list might help.
As far as I can tell, that's the end of the story.
So if the Op doesn't state what's working, then people have the right to clutter threads and annoy them, right? Its a win win situation, unless devs like being asked the same question a billion times. It could help keep the clutter to a minimum but its up to the devs. Not that I'm demanding a perfect op, but there are reasons as to why people ask and ask.
1. Too lazy to read.
2. Fast response wanted(see 1)
3. Op doesn't state what's working.
4. Search doesn't always help( at least for me on the xda app.)
5. People want a solution.

OP, your post has been noted and understood. But so that there isn't any bashing/flaming happening, closing the thread, as I removed a couple "not needed" type of posts already in this thread.
Thank You.

Spoiled Chidren Ruining XDA

I have noticed a rash of rude and uncalled for comments lately. Here is a little advice for noobs.
Trolling or Fishing on a Devs thread is childish. How old are you? 12? They take their spare time to develop roms, mods, hacks etc. and give them to us for free. Making comments such as "This rom sucks" is just wrong. If you do not like the rom, don't use it. Respect is earned on this site.
When needing help, please search for the answer first. If you cannot find a good enough explanation, then ask the question politely. Include as much information as possible. Phone code name, Hboot version, S-On or S-Off, What rom you are using etc. I know some people will tag it at the bottom but put it in the description of the question as well. It is hard enough to help someone without having to figure out what kind of phone they have too. Be polite. Hit the thanks button. It is free and does not hurt at all. Remember that XDA is a developers site. They invited you here to share their work with you freely. Senior members help a lot of people on a daily basis and you should keep in mind that they get tired of answering the same question or fixing the same problem. Being polite and keeping your cool will get them to help you a lot faster and things will go alot smoother.
Thanks,
Venomtester

Ironically you posted this in the wrong section.
I think there's a distinction to be made between children and just idiots...
Wanted noobs to see it. They start here first.

It'll last longer here. In general it would last maybe 20min= mod lock. But you right Lol

Sheesh, not another one of these threads. The noobs you're talking about create problems because they never read before posting and complaining, thus they won't read this thread.
I'm a noob. I read it. I really need a social life.

See sig line.
we do get alot of these threads actually. we should make a "thread of shame" but make sure it is made a sticky.
since im ocpd i go through every single evita thread every couple months. =) sometimes i bump old things.
edit: decided to go through One X Android Development just now
i like a clean house
i wish i was a forum mod, cause i see tons of threads that need to be moved and/or locked or both, like the threads that needed to be moved in the dev sections that were just closed but never moved, or were moved but still say "Moved: " in original posted forum.
was this Xperia Z rom port please! not moved but closed in case a dev would see it and want to port it?
why do some threads say "Moved: " but still show up in it's original location? back when the new rules of threads with no downloads can't be in dev section many of those seem show up as "Moved: " which seems beneficial as they originally hinted at dev usage but didn't exactly conform to the rules of that section so seeing them in both places might be helpful?
XDA is just a subset of society.
In society, there are nice people, not so nice people, smart folk, idiots etc.
There will always be a mix of all types here, and while venting about noobs probably makes you feel a little better for a short time, the fact is it isn't going to change a thing.
My advice is just accept that it is how it is. Maybe have another beer and everything will seem just that little bit better.

This.
I never said kids were ruining xda. I'm talking about childish behavior. Kinda like what we are doing now. Everybody drinking and smoking. Cats and dogs living together. Just plain craziness.
