MicroSD dead (recovery) + new 32GB where? - General Accessories

Hello. I woke up today and my microsd inside my Desire HD couldn't be found. I thought it was maybe some weird unmounting. I rebooted the phone. Phone tries to mount sd card: cannot mount: 'SD CARD NOT IN THE SLOT'. I manually take out the microsd and plug it in again: micro SD damaged, format?
I was in panic. I take the microsd and put in a card reader via usb on the desktop pc. Microsd is found and I can access the folder for 3 seconds, then it shuts down (no drive found). I used PC recovery to take the files I had interest in. It seemed it worked although I couldn't get everything...to transfer a few data it takes very long (I think it is because of the recovery process).
Anyway, just to say: yesterday evening I changed the font with fontchanger (I did it lots of times). This time, I didn't reboot. I clicked 'reboot later' and went to bed. Could it have something to do with this damage to the microsd? However after the reboot the font changed without problems....
Now I formatted (fast format) the microsd with Windows 7. I couldn't even do a full format because the drive unmounted by itself before the format was finished. That's why I did then a fast format, and tried to put files on it. MicroSD is still being read by Windows 7, file transfer complete at 6,5 MB/s.
I am still a bit unhappy....I don't want the microSD to fail on me again. I will keep a backup of it from now on. Anyway, this thing makes me want to buy a new microsd card. The one I have (16GB) is genuine sandisk and came with the desire HD. I may want to buy a 32GB....and I know there are lots of fakes. Do you have a trusted shop that can ship a genuine 32GB microSD (up to 6 MB writing speed) to europe?

No wait I just remembered that MAYBE the 16GB i have at the moment didn't come with the desire HD. I guess with the desire HD came an 8GB that I don't have anymore, and the 16GB I have now is the one I bought in tokyo (akihabara). Is there a way to check whether it's original Sandisk or not?

Yup, http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Fake_Memory_Cards

Can I run that program even if the card is not totally empty? I am writing + verifying all available space (15176 MB) and it will take around 1 hour...

I was referring to the picture comparisons, so no idea. How did it turn out?

2gb sandisk micro sd problem

all,
I do have a strange problem with my Artemis P3300, or with my memorycard.
I bought a Sandisk 2gb microsd.
In the cardreader of my PC it had a problem, but after an upgrade of the reader it works fine.
When I put the card in my p3300, it seems not to be able to write more then 1gb.
If I put more than 1gb on the card with the pc cardreader, the pda does not have any problem with this.
does anyone have any idea what to do ?
J.
no one with an idea ?
Currently having similar problems with 3 2gb sandisk cards I have. Causes mulitple PC Lockups and also stuffed my Blackberry up as well. Still trying to figure it out.
Even thought that perhaps I had inadvertantly purchased the dodgy fake cards from a local store such is the problem.
What happens if you try to format them in a photocamera or perhaps via pocket mechanic (triall version available). Has to be FAT 16.
Should see about 1.9 gb available if it works.
Make sure the card is formatted as "FAT32". The older "FAT" format could only address a maximum of 1gb, so if you use this FAT format on a bigger card, you'll only see 1gb of space....
I've been there myself, as my wife's old ipaq PDA can only read FAT format memory cards, so anything bigger formatted in FAT32 can't be seen. Perhaps that's your problem on your PC and in making it work on there, you've accidentally reformatted it from FAT32 to FAT.
I tried both FAT and FAT32; both have the same problem.
I do see about 1.9Gb on both my PC and my PDA, but on the PDA I get an error when writing that 1 file that goes over 50% of the capacity. If I write over that limit with the PC it is working fine.
HTC helpdesk said to upgrade to WM6, but I guess thay say that to everybody who comes up with a question on WM5 now..
J.
I had the same problem with my old iPaq. The first half of the card was ok, the second one unusable. I changed the SD with another of the same brand, but the problem simply changed and the card was "sometime" readable.
I had no other choice but to change SD brand.
It's not that the second half is unusable, it gives an error on that 1 file that crosses the 50% border, once the border is crossed (by putting some more data on the card with the cardreader in the PC) it is fully usable.
J.
It looks like it's a different problem, I tried overwriting a folder with almost 8000 files in it (that was the one where I did encounter the problem with the other time) but now there is 1.4Gb used on the card, way over the 1GB limit.
And I stil get the same problem after a while, the problem is that I can't see how much has been transferred or how many files are transferred, since ActriveSync doesn't show me that.
Is there a limit of files in 1 folder to be transferred via ActiveSync ?
or is there a limit of files in 1 folder ? (I don't think so because there is no problem when I transfer them via the cardreader)
Any suggestion is welcome.
J.
I bought a 2GB sandisk card and it broke my phone!
I inserted the card and the battery and turned the phone on, after booting the phone did not recognise the card so I turned it off and went to take the card out. It was so hot it burned my thumb!
The phone wouldn't boot again, but luckily those nice people at Tmobile gave me a new one.
I won't be buying Sandisk again!!

[Q] "SD Card mounted as read-only"?

Hi,
I'm posting this issue second time. I have a class 2 SD card with almost 1700mb of ext3 partition. the problem is that my SD turns to read only when accessing some files from my sd card. it says in the notification SD card mounted as a read only and then say "tap" to resolve the card responded unexpectedly.
tapping on it sometimes help if i remove the files that I was trying to access that created the problem. otherwise it mounts it as read only.
Hi, you sure your card is a genuine one? The problems you are having are identical to what I had. Turns out my 32gb card was in fact an 8gb card, and the problem was when capacity was reached it would go to read only. The only way to rectify this was to take the card out, place it in my PC card reader right click on properties of the drive and run the error checking tool. Hope this helps. Got my money back anyway thought £36 was a bit cheap lol! Try writing a large file to the card using your Computer, this should give you an indication if the card is genuine or not.

Card is genuine. I have placed my card several times in my brothers htc hd and formatted it through windows. its almost 8 gb i checked it on windows. last time I deleted a folder which has wiered name as if the folder was corrupted. I deleted that folder n it was running fine again. but its back again.
mine came with telus, so it should be genuine. what does class signify? like i have class 2, what does it mean?
CLass is the speed of read and writes.
I recently had a problen like this it turned out to be a corrupt file in the .secure folder used for apps to sd.

then I guess its because of corrupt files but why is it so often specially when I copy something from windows.
I had this problem once after disconnecting from a Windows PC, simply connect the sd car directly to a computer and run the windows verification tool, it finds the corrupt file and your sd card starts working again
hey i recently had the same problem ,, but i figured it out and this method should work fine...!!
>First of all you should know how this problem has occurred..??,
well the reason is, we all connect the phone to system in usb mass storage mode ,,but while removing we'll only give safely remove in the system and forget to do the same in the phone ,,,trust me this the core for this problem....sd-card cannot be fully unmounted by system ,,, so you have to manually do this by your phone
so if you are using the sense rom ,,after ejecting the disk in the system ,,,in your your phone's notification area
in ''connect to pc'' menu select charging only .....this will completely unmount your memory card .
>if you are using non sense rom ,,"turn off the usb" mass storage
do this every time you connect your phone to the system ..!!!
ok now solution for your problem..
>reboot your phone to recovery mode using rom manager...
>select partition menu
>now select mount usb storage ,,,
>now you have tow options
1. either you backup every thing and format your sd-card (recommended)
or
2.mount your sd-card and check for errors in windows,,,
this should fix your problem ..
remember ,,next time when you are connecting your phone don't direly unplug the the cable..!!

The Class number represents a multiple of 1 MB/s
So if 2 is written on ur SD card then it means that its capable of a read speed of 3MB/s

- Not always true, its happened to me on several occassions when not connected to PC etc... Flickie HD caused mine
If you have a mac the fix is - disk utilities - repair card
Full format I found to be better though

MicroSD terrible slow on PC

Hello all.
I have a 8GB ADATA, class 6 MicroSD card. It is formatted FAT32 + a part of it (1.5GB) as EXT3 for a2sd.
On the device itself the card seems pretty fast, except for few pauses when recording.
But when I put it on card reader, it takes eternity (around 20 minutes to be precise) for the PC to read it's content. This happens on multiple PCs.
I needed to delete few things (200MB size) from the card while on card reader, it took 2 minutes for the folder to be deleted.
Do you have any advice on what I should do to fix this up?
Hi there mate i had the exact same problem as you. so the other day i went and picked up a 16gb micro sd for my phone from argos. Anyway i got it i was so excited i started to move my music onto it from my 8gb it was slow as hell it's supposed to be a class 4.
Then i googled why my micro sd is slow and believe me when i say i found a solution. i formatted using this utility it takes awhile but trust me it is so worth it.
type in google sdformatter click the first link and download the software.
Download the software install it.
Then put your micro sd card onto a usb with the adapter, launch the program. when it loads find your drive letter for your card. Make sure it's the right letter. Then click option. For format type you want full (overwrite) and for format size adjustment put it to on. and click ok. Then click format this takes a while do something while you wait. when done be amazed at the speed you copy your data.
It takes me 2 mins to copy a 200mb file i am so happy i hope it works for u mate.

[Q] G2 Blank SD Card Error

G2 running Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 RC1
I updated from 7.0.?? a few days ago and today I got this message
"Blank SD Card. SD Card is blank or has unsupported file system." I have read quite a few posts on this issue but havent found a solution. I am using a non-stock 8gb card. Also tried this with a 16gb card and got the same error. Tried using a card reader but my computer (vista) gives no sign that a card is even present. Tried inserting my card into a friends sidekick 4g and got the same message. Wouldnt let me format on either phone. I am pulling my hair out! Please help and thanks.
UPDATE: My friends 8gb sd card from his sidekick 4g works fine in my phone but neither of my cards work. Is there an easy way to access my cards from my pc so i can format them?
I'm having this problem as well.
This is not just a suggestion, even though it seems fairly simple. I had the same issue with my Desire Z, and fixed it.
I took the microSD, put it into the phone.. Reboot the phone then go to Settings > Storage and "Erase SD Card" (I am assuming you don't have any valuable info in there.. if you do then back it up somehow.. This is only for free of memory cards).
After you erase it, even if you reboot it, the phone won't recognize it. So take the battery out/power off the phone, put it into the computer. If you're using a PC, go to the Removable Disk that is your microSD, right-click and Format it. Use Fat32, and just format it. (Maybe Quick Format will work, but I just did normal format, took 15 seconds).
After it's done, put it into your phone, boot it, and it should prepare your microSD for usage.
This worked for me, let me know if it does for you!
This issue just occurred on my G2 today at roughly 4:30 pm CDT. I've been running a Patriot 16 GB Class 10 microSD on this device since early April with no problems whatsoever. The other two G2 devices and one MyTouch4G we have are not experiencing the issue at this time.
Symptoms:
- The microSD card is no longer recognized by the G2 Android 2.2 device
- connecting the G2 to either my Windows or OS X notebooks no longer prompts me to enter USB Mode
- device sees the computer and computer(s) see the device after changing G2 to Development - USB debugging mode and connecting it to either the Windows or OS X notebooks
Corrective actions:
- soft reboot ==> no change
- power down - wait 5 mins - restart ==> no change
- power down - remove battery and microSD card - check microSD card contacts & phone contacts - replace microSD and battery - restart ==> no change
Before going into any more invasive or possibly destructive repair efforts, I came to XDA to see if my situation is a one-off or part of a larger pattern.
Appears that this isn't a unique problem.
I'm going to try the stock microSD 8 GB in the unit and will update this thread with results or additional actions.
Good times...
UPDATE: Problem corrected, at least for now.
- pulled the Patriot 16 GB class 10 microSD and used my Kingston MobileLite SD/microSD-to-USB adapter to backup the files from the card to my notebook
- formatted (NOT quick format) the microSD card as FAT32, 32KB allocation size, no volume label
- ran the full format process on the microSD card twice to minimize lingering "noise" on the card
- inserted the microSD into the G2, rebooted and allowed it to mount, fully prepare and download the configurations saved to Google
- confirmed the microSD had mounted and the G2 recognized the entire disk volume
- powered down the G2 gracefully
- pulled the microSD and reattached it to the notebook using the Kingston adapter
- used Unstoppable Copy v5.2 to transfer the 11.2 GB of backup files from the notebook to the microSD - no errors reported
- reinstalled the Patriot microSD in the G2 and powered up
Everything is functioning nominally, all data appears to be recovered. Tested the microSD with SD Tools and all the specs are reporting identically as they were before the incident with read & write performance well above Class 10 levels, (read:21.8 MB/s / write: 14.2 MB/s).
We'll see if the issue resurfaces.
As always, YMMV.
Well I have called HTC and they are sending me a new 8gb SD card on the condition that I ship the old one to them at my own expense. They also acknowledged their awareness of the problem and informed me that they have seen a number of devices burning out the cards. They told me to try the new card and if it happens again I will have to ship my phone in for repairs. I have stuck by HTC for years now, tilt, g1, inspire, g2, and never had a problem, but I feel that their solution, forcing me to pay for return shipping miniscule as it may be, is unacceptable. Im just lucky my phone was still under warranty.
The problem is that no device, my pc included, will recognize the card. It acts like the drive is empty. According to HTC the card is permanently fried but I dont think that is the case.
Wow this is worrying . . . . . I have alot of pics and music on my sdcard which i havnt backuped and wud be devasted if i lost!! Time for backup methinks

[Q] Sd card unmounting

I have adata 16Gb class 10 card I order her trough ebay It's original for sure, and I have been using her for like half a year or so, and recently when my mobile shuts down (low battery) my mobile said blank card and and to format her. I have htc desire(amoled) I'm using Runnymede 6.1 stable ROM, and I don't think that has do to anything with my card blank, becouse it was happening on previous rom two but just so you know. Can someone please help my I tried full format ejecting card putting her back, and same thing, is my card dying ?
Did you check your card on a PC? Is it recognized and can you access it? If so, make a backup and try to check the card with on board tools (e.g. for Windows: http://www.ehow.com/how_6857598_check-sd-card-errors.html).
Alternatively, there are plenty of tools on the web, like
SDFormatter (https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/)
or
H2testw (http://www.heise.de/download/h2testw.html)
Good luck!
PS. A while ago, I also had some trouble with my Samsung 16GB Class 10 MicroSD. I formatted it again and had since no more issues.
When I format her (trough my phone usb becouse I don't have sd card reader) she is okay again and PC recognized her but after some time she did that again blank sd and that usually happends when my phone shuts down not by me but when battery is low even sometimes for some other reason, it's iritating becouse I have to format her and install ROM again.
Mmh, it is a little hard to tell whether the problem is solely down to your sd card or also to your phone, as long as you are not able to test the card outside the phone with a PC etc. Have you tried touse the PC tools in disk drive mode? According to this thread, H2testw works this way. You might also wanna try apps from google play/android market, e.g. 'SD Tools' or 'SD Card Tester'. I have not used any of those, so I can't tell if they are useful.
Finally, don't you have any opportunity to use a friend's PC or borrow a card reader? Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend you to buy a proper (from my experience the cheapest ones suck, e.g. are very slow, don't recognize some card formats) card reader, either a multi-format one or a microsd2usb one.
If you still have guarantee on your card, why not simply get a replacement by the reseller? I mean, if you can still access the card (at least for a while) then you should be able to create a backup and later restore it to a new card.

I run H2testw and no error found. I was planing to buy microsd card reader allInOne and that kind of reader I know that cheap one sucks, but I didn't have anything to put in until now I mean I still have my phone and card in it and when I connect it to PC I can format her so I don't know should I really bought that reader...I don't know about guarantee becouse I throw away that serial number that was on the case and with that serial number you can register on adata site and see If you still have guarantee but now I can't becouse I don't have it
