[Q] How can I definitively tell if I have a wakelock? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running MIUI 1.9.2, and it's not that my battery is draining ridiculously fast, but the awake stat in the battery stats is basically one continuous line, indicating to me that the phone is always awake....How can I tell definitively if I have a wakelock, and how can I get rid of it if I have one? I searched the forums, and couldn't find anything definite.

Spare parts gives you more specific usage statistics.
I also use watch dog which watches cpu usage for apps.

[Q] Screen time, keep awake, cpu time?? Please explain

I had a normal phone time on battery before (24h with 2,5h screen time).
And now my battery goes to almost zero in 12h and 1,5h.
I must have installed something which drains the battery. Maybe mail sync or smth.
1. Could you please, who have 24h and 3,5 screen time post your Android system keep awake, cputime and other parameters?
2. Could you provide explanation what is "keep awake" and other similar words used in battery stats screen?
Maybe answers would give me a clue where to search for battery drainer.
Thanks!!!

i would recommend getting cpuspy and seeing if your phone is going in to deep sleep. If it isn't than something is keeping the phone awake. You can dl betterbatterystats and find out what processes are draining your battery along with wakelocks which is waking up your system.

Just keep in mind many folks who get good battery life like that are Rooted running different Kernel and ROM setups.
As mentioned, CPUSpy is a great tool to get a better idea of whether or not your phone is buzzing along at 350 MHz when you're not using it, this is what turns your full day phone, into a half day phone.
Better Battery Stats is also indispensable in my opinion, it can help you diagnose why your phone is staying awake, the majority of the time you can do something about it since user apps tend to be the culprit.

How to stop the Mediaserver, Cell Standby, and Android System/OS from eating battery?

Hey XDA,
I've been using AOKP_jb_build1 and r249 of Franco's Nightly Kernel. I've noticed for quite a while that the Mediaserver, CellStandby, and other things of that nature are taking up some battery. What I was wondering is how to reduce this, or if its possible, stop it. I think I would be able to squeeze maybe an hour or two if I resolved some of these battery suckers. Here are my Specs : Galaxy Nexus (VZW LTE), 1850mah., and as I mentioned above, AOKP_jb_build1, and Franco's r249 Nightly. If i said anything wrong/inaccurate please correct me! Thanks!
Best Regards,
~Epic
cell standby, android os/system: use your phone more, if you use your phone more, percentages will be distributed and cell standby/android os usage will drop..
Media server percentage... some app wake lock, rom, widgets that sync you might have
check out betterbattery stats

Alright thanks man. I already have BetterBatteryStats and I think its one of my widgets causing it. Thanks for the advice.
People still don't know what those percentages actually mean. The percentage being high doesn't always mean something is drawing on your battery. It is usually just a representation of what has used what % of the battery that "has" been used at that point. If cell standby is 50%, but you're at 80% battery, then cell standby is half of what has been using any battery at all.

Horrible S3 Battery Performance

Hey everyone, first post.
I did a search for similar issues and maybe I didn't look deep enough (if so could someone redirect me and mods please delete this post), but I think I'm experiencing some unique issues with my Galaxy S3.
The phone itself is less than 45 days old. It is also my first Android device (switched from iPhone 4) and I am loving everything about it except for this intermittent issue I seem to be having.
My battery life on my S3 has been very intermittent to say the least. Some days I can get into bed at the end of the day and charge it with 20-30% remaining, others I have to charge it mid-late day on my drive home. I have never let the battery completely die on me as I've read lithium ion batteries are best kept moderately charged.
I figured the above is normal, and mostly depends on my usage, however, today I received a notification for low battery (15%) less than half way through my day, and some odd SIX hours after unplugging it.
I've attached some screenshots - let me know if I am missing some and I will try my best to upload them (phone is currently charging off my laptop).
I have no idea what is going on, and as you can see, there's hardly any usage!! I disable WIFI because my LTE is faster and I hate when it searches for my network when I'm on the can (sorry, TMI). BTW my connection is usually full signal with LTE here in the office.
Am I missing something here? Are there some hidden applications running which can be sucking my battery?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Perhaps there is a hidden culprit draining your battery that does not show up in the stats screenshots you provided. Usually it's called a wakelock or partial wakelock, or sometimes it's a Rogue drain. There are KNOWN culprits. Best if you get the Better Battery Stats and post some screen shots. It has more detailed information.
Also, if nothing is in fact OVER taxing the battery, then it might possibly be a bad battery that does not hold a full charge or even possibly the calibration is somehow messed up. That would be easy for me to compare because I have a spare stock battery.
Apart from the wakelock suggestion, LTE tends to eat battery life - just not to the extent that seems to be going on here.
There was another thread I remember seeing recently about charge occasionally starting to plummet while LTE is active, and I'm seeing similar behaviour in that first screenshot. Let me see if I can find the relevant thread again...
EDIT: This thread is the one I was thinking of.

Wakelock WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed

Greetings
Battery life on this phone is actually quite good, especially compared to the nexus 5. I'm not sure it's having a massive negative effect but the wakelock WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed seems to be running for an unnecessary amount of time, and all gains to battery life are not unwanted. Searching both this site and Google seems to indicate this wakelock exists to sleep the WiFi connection after a certain time period. The fix was suggested to switch off this sleeper but I cannot find any such option in the menus for this phone. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.
+1
Bringing this up again. This wakelock is getting out of hand on my G4. It's been draining my battery like crazy.
Any fix?

Question Battery Drain Issue

The Battery Drain Very fast Is This Normal ?
I'm on Official 12.0.8 Global
This forum feels dead before it even came to life. Im no android pro by any means. I don't have any such issue but, please provide more details. When did it happen? After first boot? How long does it last? Have you checked in battery statistics to check which apps drain battery the most? What are they? And also your miui version
debloat thats the only thing you can do for now
Just writing that the battery is somewhat draining fast, leaves very open why this could be or whether it is just interpretation.
For me battery feels extremely well on miui 12.0.4.0 RKQEUXM.
Such that I can use the phone for two days straight under light usage and charge somewhen on the third day.
Provide better info, like screenshots of the battery graph and app list where you see which app drained which percentage of the total.
Or use apps that analyze further, like better battery stats or such.
You can also compare usage to other phones with comparable battery capacity, etc.
This could give a clue.
But other than that, such statements are rather irritating and the best suggestions are just, provide more info or do something general like, yes, debloating.
Turn off miui optimizations in developer options.its effect on your battery drain.i try it for my self
