[Q] Kinged 3d rom shooter - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just popped my cherry on the whole rooting my evo and flashing this rom. The rom is awesome by the way. Im having an issue with the wifi disconnecting when Im browsing the net or when I update mr friends stream. Is there something else I need to flash to fix this?

Try a different kernel or check your WiFi settings. Make sure the sleep settings is checked onto "never"

You can try setting your wifi sleep policy to never under settings/wireless networks/wifi settings hit the menu button go to advanced that might work but you should ask in the thread for that ROM you'll get a lot more help sorry if your still in that 10 post deal I'm on the xda app so I can't see it right now.

I agree with Steven lookup freedom kernel i use the aggressive version and wireless N is fully supported. I never have drop in wifi but you'll find out all phones act different.

Dunno if this will help you or not, but I use Roam Control for the market...it works great and has saved my butt many times when I find myself in the middle of nowhere. But, it's not really an advanced wifi setting tool like you originally asked, it just focuses on changing your roaming settings only. Does an awesome job tho.
Dunno if it works on Gingerbread tho, I'm still on an EC05 rom waiting for the devs to update to Gingerbread. It gets updates frequently tho so I'm hoping the dev has already updated its support to Gingerbread.

SOLVED[Q]Wifi continuously scans even though connected

I am on Legendary 2.1 and just had it pointed out and I verified that even though my wifi is connected to my router it continuously scans every few seconds. This has got to be a battery drain. Is there a way to turn off the scanner when connected or set it for every 5 minutes instead? Thanks.
Edit: Thanks TeamERA for explaining that it only does that while in the listing window so it can update the list immediately. It defaults to the scan interval in build.prop when that window is closed. Thank you.
I think romtoolbox allows you to change that Im not sure but you can check it out.

Sorry root tools by jrummy allows you to change wifi scan intervals

I'm pretty sure you should be able to turn off 'network notification' while connected...this should stop scans since this option is made to notify when a network is available. In theory, if its not notifying you if new networks are available, I would assume it's not scanning. Good luck

No It still scans even after disabling the notification

I tried SleeperROM and it does it there too. Can someone look into making the scanner manual only?

That would be awesome cuz you have to figure that's a lil bit of a battery drain.

I found a program called wifi buddy on the Android market. This program allows you to disable wifi scanning.

I will try that...thank you! Probably add hours onto my battery life on weekends at home with wifi on.
Wifi buddy settings only control that app not the system settings so disabling wifi scanning only worked inside app not to system wifi scanning

I'm not knowledgable enough yet, but has anyone looked into using SQ Editor? Perhaps something can be manipulated in system files to just disable intermittent scanning all together? Only initial scan when wifi is activated? Just an idea...

That's what I was hoping for. Can't seem to get a DEVs attention to look into this. Build prop edit doesn't do anything.

Trying to find any sort of process or folders in root explorer that relate to wifi/scanning and coming up empty...I'm with you Kenny, we need a dev to pick this up, especially if editing build prop showed no results

I think my phone is doing this too.
In betterbatterystats mmc_delayed_work (under kernel wakelocks) accounts for 90% of my wakelocks, this does not happen on 3G so it is definitely related to Wifi.
I thought it had something to do with my router (DIR-655) as other people said they experienced unusual drain with that router.. Not so sure now.
This is probably the main reason people are complaining about their battery life on the gingerbread builds. I think it is more of a EI22 issue. How did EH17 or the previous gingerbread Roms handle this and if it handled this issue better can we take something from to fix our problem.

It would be nice to actually have the system manipulated, however, I am pretty sure that Juice Defender has an option of wifi control...I think (and I don't fully remember, just went to Thunderhawk and haven't put it back, trying to figure out other ways to better battery, as is everyone else) that you can allow JD to stop all wifi unless user selected.
So I don't claim to be a dev, but I just thought of something that might lead you in the right direction. I remember a post about lowering the signal threshold on your phone to get better 4g connectivity a couple of months ago in the general section. Its a dialer code and you need your msl to gain access. This is one of the phone settings like at the bios level. When I did this, I was able to see a boatload of settings that you would not find anywhere in the os settings. If you know where I am talking about and know the dial code to get in there, I do remember seeing some wifi stuff. Maybe something in there you can change scan or retry rates, with signal thresholds that might work for you. Write down all changes you make if u need to go back.
Again, just a thought trying to help.

That's a good idea. I will check that out when I get a chance.

Stop wifi scanning?

I noticed that wifi always rescans even when its connected. Is there a way to stop it from autimatically scanning on its own completely and make it only scan when the "scan" button is pressed?

Lol thanks but no the answer I'm looking for is more like a edit in the system files that control wifi. Not sure what or where they are though but I think someone will come along and help me lol.

Rom Toolbox Pro has an option to increase the scan interval. Maybe email the developer and see if he can add an option to completely disable it? He's a very active developer.

Data problems with CM10

This is my first post. I have been rooted, learning, flashing ROMs and other stuff for about a year now. I'm on aero's CM10 10/11 build and ever since I installed it my data randomly goes from 3g to 1xx and signal is always at 1 bar. I don't have any problems when I switch to backups of other ROMs. Is any one else experiencing this and any thoughs would be appreciated.
Also wanted to share that I can go to settings/sounds and reselect my ringtone for a quick fix for audio. I thought it might be helpful to someone but I did not have enough posts to post in thread.

I also have this issue on CM10 based roms, I did upgrade to the latest radio .320 and has helped a little but it still happens from time to time. That is why I keep going back to ICS for now. I think a lot of my problems are my location, I live in a small town and not the best coverage.

Be sure your metal contacts are making good contact with the back plate, I also live in a low service area and service is never really great here, but with my old DX2 it had consistently better signal.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
I appreciate the info but I have already tried all the above and I previously and installed the new radio .320 and ics frameware when it was posted on xda. One strong thing to me I noticed it only looses the data connection when I'm on the web or on a app that needs a 3g connection. I'm going to try the 10/16 build tomorrow and see if it changes anything. Thanks

Have you checked your Gsm,Cdma,Evdo, settings?
I'm on the newest build now and it's back to normal the signal still isn't the best but that's typical for our device. I have been on the newest build since last night and it has not dropped data yet. So, so far so good

Try a Different CM 10 build
DKStunna has done a pretty good job with his build. It runs nicely, you do get a random FC (force close) every now and again. GSM doesn't work, and MMS doesn't work on verizon until you put in the APN in the thread:
Go to System Settings > More... (under wireless and networks) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
-Press Menu
-Select New APN
-Put in this info:
Name = Verizon
APN = internet
MMSC = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
-Press Menu
-Select Save
-Back Button
-Tick the new Verizon APN
Flash My official cm9 everything works

after a lot of determination and prior experience with this problem i realized that once you input the same apn a couple of times it eventually registers, i have 8 of the same apns under different names (the names do not have to be specific for data to work)

[Q]wifi dropping

I Can't find a thread about this, so I was go ogling and that doesn't really help. I am having major problems with my wifi it keeps dropping non stop and it's really annoying. I have my phone stock but rooted and was wondering is there any way to fix this? I know it's a Samsung problem but if I were to load this up with a rom should that help? Thanks in advance

Maybe it's your router or better yet the router settings. Have you tried changing any of those settings?
Am I missing something? How is it a Samsung thing? What kind of router do you have?

After looking all night I found a thread that fixed this. You have two choices really to fix or buy your router which I'm not going to do, or you can type in on your dial pad *#0011#. Then you click your menu button, click on the wifi option, and then disable the energy saver wifi mode. That made it so my phone wouldn't drop wifi connection anymore. NOTE: each time you restart your phone you need to turn the wifi energy saver off through the command *#0011#. Hope I helped some of you because this bug is truly annoying.

That stinks. I don't have any problem and I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen anything posted like this about the S4 (the S3 did have that issue and was common). I've never turned off any energy saver and mine stays connected 100% of the time. So you're saying either that or you have to buy a new router? What kind do you have now and what settings on it did you find out that cause this issue for you?
Right now I have whatever Verizon gives fios customers. It works perfectly for all my phones, tablets, and computer. Just not on my s4 unless I do the dial pad trick. I'll post a link on the xda thread when I get home on how to fix your router. It really does make me angry that I paid 600 for the phone and it does this. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon since they acknowledge the problem

My gf has an S4 and has the same problem. We have a Netgear WNDR3500. So it's not isolated to a D-Link. She also did the dial pad trick and it seems to work for her as well. Need to find a script to run on boot to set the power save to OFF.
