Hi guys,
What is, in your opinions, the fastest ROM for DHD, Sense or nonsense? I'm currently using Virtuous Unity 2.35 which is quite fast, but I'm wondering if there is anything faster.
Also important to me is battery life.
i will say...ARHD 5.2.6........---almost 2 days of battery life with MY regular usage......
Well if For Sense roms You can Try the leedroid
and android revolution hd
For no sense of course cyanogenmod
Remeber to always wipe before installing a new rom
Not always its necessary but for a clean and fast install
I'm using RCMix 3D bliss with sense 3.5 from capy, running very well until now, just BT don't turn up
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
hydrogen mod does it all for me. blazing fast, battery life can be great depending on kernel and its lightweight. cm7 - crap. you can feel the difference imho

On CM7 camera shoots video best
No jerks!
Im also running RCMix 3D bliss with sense 3.5 from capy, i think it is running really well and its running pretty smooth.
Most non sense roms are pretty smooth and fast, while every sense rom i've used has been slightly choppy - especially with the app drawer. (Installing a custom launcher fixes it, but it kinda defeats the purpose of using a sense rom)
I would recommend pretty much any cyanogen or miui based rom for speed. (Scrolling homescreens is much smoother, and benchmarks are around 1.5x higher (with quadrant standard - most sense 3.0 roms get around 1.5k @ no o/c, while rd-miui and hydrogen both get 2.2ish), but there actually isnt much of a difference in gaming - laggy games such as fast five lag (it pretty much runs on the same FPS on most ROMs i've used) regardless of what rom)
The only problem with no-sense roms imo is the lack of a proper camcorder - i have yet to see a camcorder with touch to focus support
I must say the perfect ROM doesn't exist. RCMix is somewhat acceptable, ARHD and Leedroid are very good ROMs for day to day use, but now I'm stuck with Virtuos Unity, which does the job flawlesly regarding smoothness, battery life and so on.
In the end, you must decide what's the best ROM for you
as far as i have seen, the best rom has to be determined by you, whether you want looks, or just speed..
i have tried many different roms, and they all have their ups and downs...
Stock Looking ROM
at the moment i have been using Android Revolution 5.2.6, and just upgraded to 6.1.0 with Sense3, this rom is veryfast and of course has Sense3 and has little battery consuption, i am very happy with it..AR is very simple and looks like a stock rom, but with a few tweaks..
TB and Synergy ROMs also are good, if you looking for stock look..
Good Looking ROM
but if you want some "eyecandy", try Coredroid.. version 7.5 looks awesome, but drains abit of battery, version7.6 has sense2.1...and version8 has sense3 both are very stable and good on battery..
RCMix KINGDOM ROM is also impressive and looks good, but i have yet to test it..
Simple
if you want real simplicity i would go for CyanogenMod Roms, they have good battery performance as they dont have HTCSense...
but also remember to use the recommended "Radio" for the ROM you install, as this can have a huge impact on your ROMs battery and performance..
what i have done is purchased an app called BootManager (ROOT required), and it allows you to have your main ROM, as well as 4 other ROMs, you can install on your SDcard, this way you can install multiple roms and test them out to see what you personally prefer..
Personally no ROM has even come close to having all the features I would like until recently. None were as fast or as smooth as I would have liked.
Then along came the 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 releases. Every one of these I have used (they have all been Sense ROMs) has been graphically smooth and fast to use/respond. I'm loving the rotation animation in Sense 3.5 - A small feature that I have wanted for a very long time.
Battery life seems to also be improved since I recently flashed Radio_12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M and it's matching RIL.
- If you want a ROM with Sense then check out ARHD.
- Want something that's super fast and light? Go with CM7
- Want something that's super fast and light, and has eye candy? Go with MIUI
hi guys,
first off im not very good when it comes to this sort of thing, ive jailbroken an iphone thats about it.recently i bought a dhd and it has virtuous unity 1.31 and android 2.3.3,im happy with this its working well but reading about all these roms and how easy people are saying it is to change them i wanted to try something different,i like sense and i would like something that looks really good, what would you recomend and more important how do i do it,thanks and sorry for the long post!
- Find a ROM
- Download the ROM
- Copy the ROM (the Zip-file) to the SD card
- Open ROM Manager
- Hit "Reboot into Recovery
- Choose "wipe data/factory settings" (you only need to do this if you are flashing a new ROM. Not when you're updating)
- Choose "wipe cache partition"
- Go to "advanced" and choose "wipe dalvik cache"
- Press "Go back"
- "Install zip from sdcard"
- "choose zip from sdcard"
- Find the ROM Zip you downloaded
Wait for it to finish then hit "Reboot". Now wait for it to boot up, and voila! You're done.
thanks alot for the quick reply, your instructions seem very straight forward, will i lose my contacts and pictures and so on?and is there any way i could mess the phone up if i do it wrong?
Yes you will. So back it up before you start. Use Titanium Backup or something. Just remember that everytime you do a full wipe you'll lose everything. You won't lose anything when you wipe cache partition and dalvik cache
That's great thanks, one more thing I've noticed 2.3.4 and2.3.5,if the ROM I choose is for one of these will I have to update first or will the ROM include it so I will only have to flash once?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You'll only need to flash once. If the ROM is 2.3.5 then it's 2.3.5. If you flash a ROM that's 2.3.4, then you'll get 2.3.4.
Edit: If you flash a 2.3.4 ROM and want 2.3.5 then you'll have to flash the new ROM and wipe the phone again. If the ROM you're using updates from 2.3.4 to 2.3.5 you don't need to wipe everything but it's better to do it so you won't get any weird bugs or anything like that.
Currently ARHD is the fastest with the official sense 3 base

Hey Everyone,
I was reading up on the Cyanogenmod 7.0 and after being intrigued by what i saw I am thinking about switching from Leedroid and I got a few questions:
1.Is Cyanogenmod noticeably faster and can I expect any differences in battery life?
2.I never had a non-sense rom,how big are the differences? Are there replacements for the Sense Weather Clock Widget (I love that thing )
3.When I flash CM,at which point do I install the google apps?after a full first boot?during the same recovery session as the installation?
4.when i install apps from titanium backup,is it necessary to delete all the htc apps from the list of apps to be imported?cause i backupped all system and user data and i am wondering if sense-related apps may cause trouble with the new rom?
5.Might there be an even better Gingerbread Rom out there that I am missing?
thanks in advance, looking forward to checking out cm7 soon
Answer for 2 questions:
Battery life: it should be the same or a little bit less if you flash a kernel with good battery gestion. I tested all 2.3 roms here excepted CM 7, and in comparison to Leedroid, i never had the same battery life
Rom to recommend: Redux
Incredible rom, ready for daily use, clean, google apps in the rom, and cpu gestion is available in settings. So perfect rom for me in 2.3
1. Yes its faster than normal sense based ROM. Battery life depends on kernel you use.
2. It depends how much you are used to sense base ROM. You can find free app in market for clock widget best is fancy widget for HTC like clock.
3. After you flash CM in recovery itself you can install google zip file from SD card. Doesnt really matter if you do after 1st reboot and go to recovery again.
4. From titanium backup just restore missing app with data. not the system data. That will save all the trouble (always do that)
5. You can checkout Gingervillian. Which is CM7+few things. So basically basically CM7 only. Otherwise check Oxygen which is bare minimum ROM if you like that and build everything on that. I think those 2 ROM are most popular.
Additional tip:- Dont forget to take Nand backup before trying any other ROM. Good luck.
Thanks for all the answers, running cm 7 now and I love it so far

May i ask what bothered you with Leedroid? As longtime Defrost user i actually thought about switching to the senseless leedroid, as Gingervillain has still too many bugs and problems for me and defrost starts being pretty outdated in some things.
Hi I'm coming from this roms:
1) stock latest: incredibly slow but stable;
2) leedroid froyo latest: a bit fast than stock but not so stable;
3) CM7.0.2.1 latest build 57: fast, I like it but I have two bugs: popup on virtual keyboard sometimes don't appear and I need to reboot to partially solve; the second bug is that in call some times I speak but other don't hear me ! Not at start of conversation, but during !
4) devnull 1.0.2: fastest absoutely ! but I need data/app2ext and italian language and more customization;
5) oxygen I have tried only 2.0.0: I'm not sure of this, it seams fast as devnull and more stable of CM7, but is less customizable than this;
And so: please I need an help to choose a rom that is stable like stock (1) without loosing basic function of phone, like bugs in CM7, and fastest as devnull.
If I need to install froyo 2.2.1 for stability I can install it, I neeed a rom that have data/app2ext and stable as stock.
So.........tell me ?
Can always try miui I've been using for months and best imho

I have RCMix S v09 installed and going to get V1.0 when A2SD is released of V1.0. It's fast and has lots of the new stuff, also from HTC Sense 3.0
fast,smooth and stable rom
redux rom ftw, if u need more memory flash dalvik cache 2 sd in the other downloads section.
RCMix S i the best
tnx all
InsertCoin forever ;-). Very fast and realy stable with a lot of stuff from sense 3.0.

personal taste
i'm giving RCMixS a swing as I would like to check out what's new in the latest Sense UI but I must say that MIUI (use XJ data2sd-xpart version) is the best ever. It's packed with features you can't imagine and it's beautiful in appearance department plus customizable. a large community that is ever growing too, makes this rom something to watch in the future.
one proviso, i'm finding that trying to run data2sd on a class2 sdcard is a nightmare after a few hours. the system becomes slow slow slower than bloatstock so just makes sure you have a class4 or higher sdcard and all will be as bright as miui apples
MIUI shiny apples >>> [ROM][MIUI] 1.4.29 +OTA GB2.3/2.2 [Multi Lang] XJ-D2EXT X-Part, A2SD/+, D2W + Add-ons
I am using InsertCoin 2.0.1 Data2Ext and it is stable, fast, smooth, and relatively bug-free (not important: over 2200 points in Quadrant).
I have tried DeFrost, RCmixHD, LeeDroid, etc....InsertCoin is so far the best I have tried. I haven't flashed any other ROM ever since.
MIUIs are a big NO for me...they are iPhone-ish..
Now I am waiting the maturity of the Android 2.3 new-Sense ROMs ...after that...it is flashing time again!...
Well, you said the most stable... Then RCMIX S, InertcoinS and all the GB/Sense ROMs are stable, but not as stable as the Froyo (HD ROM Ports) ones.
Try Gingervillain (if you don't need sense). It's fast, stable and customizible(I didn't have any problems with it since 0.7).
dj droid good rom
Oxygen 2.0.3 (which i got, now is 2.1.1.) but as you mentioned...depends what do you want to customize and how much =) (but its stable, fast, with great batt life and without sense and unuseful apps) choose wisely
can anyone tell me the most stable rom, wit hall components working with no bugs , glitches or problems etc. i currently have stock on my phone, and have been wanting to upgrade, but although every few days something is released, or a new feature (sense 3) i dont want to install if bugs - i.e. i read in sense 3 the weather doesnt update, so bit pointless installing.
whats the best rom for me? im guessing all roms are cleaned up and sped up.
Start with Seraphics Stock (but rooted) HTC gingerbread. Its the 2.3 update with root access, everything works.
Try Leedroid 3.02 very stable for me and have all u need battery holds nice too.

Depends on what ur looking for, I had the same question a month ago or so and decided to go for the a Revolution rom, by now I never want to go back again. I just flashed the Android Revolution HD 5.1.4, seems stable, fully functional and fast.
Yup, another vote for Android Revolution. Faster, better battery life, and probably more stable than stock My opinion is, don't go for Sense 3 mods, except maybe USB Connection thing. 3.0 Lock screen is pretty much useless like stock one, untill they fully implement features from sense 3 (lock screen apps selection,...).
Make a backup of your stock ROM, and then install ARHD 5.1.4 or LeeDroid 3.0.2, if you don't like it after testing, just restore to your previous state and you're back (with the slow one)
I would go for ARHD i have been using i for quiet a long time now and havent seen a lot of bugs its very fast and easy to use when you come from stock ROM because of no visual chances i would not recommed that you install any of the mods or themes in the first place Hope it helps

using ROM Manager or clockworkmod recovery (ROM Manager is a GUI for CWM-R).
Just hit the backup current ROM.
You should perform a (NAND) backup every time you flash a new ROM etc. just in case something goes wrong.
to try ARHD is a good dission.
It's fast, stable and simply that what you're looking for.
My tip on you: read the quides carefully, you'll have no problems with the flashing.
Try RCMIX if you want sense.
Try CM if you do not want sense.

il add another vote for leedroids 3.0.3 it is very stable and everything works
thank you all, i will try revolution first, as it is downloaded now, then once i have done one i am sure i will be addicted and more happy to try others more often.
ok, thank you everyone, i have installed the rom, it seems faster, and no noticeable problems yet.
I followed the guides found on here. and today saw on another site that it mentions to factory reset and wipe data, and then wipe data again after install, which there was no mention of in guides here.
will this cause a problem? i dont want to reset /wipe data now as just set it up again how i like it.
Rcmix v6 is stable, the new kingdom port 0.2 has too much widgets problem for me.
+1 for leedroid but 3.0.3 with 3.0.4 kernel... Its smothhiie and works perfectly

Hello ppl, i recently got a desire for uhh, 100 bucks
and now i see that this device has lot of ROMs.
(i'm now doing the roots and installing the recoverys)
I was looking for something simple, because this is for my brother and he is not such a geek, i just want a rom that does not have freezes or reboots, that works smooth
Does the ICS ROMs already stable or i should go for GB?
thanks ppl!
CM7 no questions asked.
Make sure to S-OFF and flash cm7 hboot to get the most space for apps
used CM7 a long time, but the ROM i used the longest is InsertCoin v1.1.4 on Stock HBOOT.
It's fast and stable, just had one issue in over 6 months which could be resolved by flashing a kernel without two way call recording.
Cyanogenmod, or Oxygen which is more barebones. Or stock Sense ROMs should be stable also. Personally I dont care for sense that much.
ICS is not stable, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out.
Stick to GB, I would recommend any of Roalex's roms, they're fantastic, even his ICS rom, which from my experience is the Best ICS rom on the desire at the moment.
Thank you everybody, now i gonna try your suggestions!
I really also liked Roalex's updated Oxygen, but it has one problem, if you move an app to sd, you can't move it back to the phone. This is using the standard apps to sd function of android. Roalexe's Cyanogen based GB rom has this issue also. I also had to restore apn's from a backup to get 3g working on the CM version. So they might not be as rock solid as original cm or oxygen.
I'm used MildWild V-4.0 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 for about 2 to 3 months, I didnt faced single issue. This was my best ROM I have used..
Hi, I would tend to say Mildwild based on oxygen too. It is very stable. Mildwild CM is also nice but last version has bugs.
First, I would say, that it's ur choice.
Everybody says Oxygen is quiet good, but in my opinion, it's very ugly.
So CM will be nice, too. But u have to choose by ur self which rom is better 4 u.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.7) version of MIUI_Au (v. 2.1.13, which you will have to google as newcomers are stupidly barred from posting outside links) is also very stable, fast, and quite aesthetically pleasing, so you might want to give it a go.
Dont want to seem like a broken record but this is my post on another thread.
I know it's still in beta but Im using ICS .10.1 by Sandvold, very stable, no issues with the mass of apps I have installed and battery is great, better than stock I find. The ROM is fast and responsive again better than stock. Tried a few GB roms and sense roms but this is the best so far.
For various reasons I have gone back to these ICS roms, battery life, BSOD's and FC's. I've tried Runny roms and MUIU though still have serious issues on my phone. Running the current rom I could pretty much not update or change it and would be happy with it. Very stable, smooth and no BSOD's since latest update. Worth considering IMO.
Insetcoin is great, I'm on that ROM very long and its smooth and stable.
People claiming ICS ROM's at the moment are the most stable are seriously brain damaged..
3 biggest issues with all of them = broken video recording, no usb tethering, sluggish (unless you use only few apps and dont need a dalvik 2 ext scripts)
Also the "Full HWA" is still a hack.
I'm not saying they are bad, but they cannot be considered as "most stable" by any means.
The most stable ROM's by now, are the AOSP ones based on Gingerbread. (CM7, Oxygen etc.)
Ok maybe they are not "eye candy" out of the box, but if you spend some time to theme it then you'll be surprised, and you actually dont need Sense or ICS ROM's to achieve it.
Some examples. http://mycolorscreen.com/popular/
Hi,
I've been using mildwild V4.0 oxygen since it is out and I'm very pleased with it.
It is stable and fast. Sometimes I miss some sense functions like rolling numbers when setting the alarm clock. But when i use a sense rom, i realize how fast mildwild really is
The best is to try some Roms. Everybody has his own preferences.
I suggest mildwild v4.0 oxygen too
Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition or MildWild CM 4.8
If you want ICS, BCM 3.7U0 but of course it's not the most stable ROM but I'm telling you this ROM is great although it says your sd-ext must be less than 1.5Gb but I'm using it with 2Gb sd-ext 4 on a class 4, 16 Gb sd card with no problem at all. Trust me on these if not the most stable only because of the usb tethering and 15fps video recording, this ROM is the most performance sucker I ever had my benchmark on quadrant advance is 1708 with this ROM and I didn't even overclock my cpu but on a stable gb ROM my benchmark was 998 with the same app.let me point out that I have 132 apps installed on the ICS but I only had 87 apps on the gb ROM.
And with mods I have made it too look like this:
I might be a new XDA-Developers user but it doesn't mean that I'm new to using its stuff, it only means that I have been dumb enough to just use and never comment!!
Hope I could Help

I'm thinking about changeing ROM in my Desire, Right now I'm using MildWild 5 (from here) but it's missing few small things I need.
Which of GB ROMs do you recommend? Why GB? Because I would like to have Camera fully working (only one 4.0 ROM has it running, but that ROM is only in English and Chinese).
Looking for something stable, this is the most important for me, someting that doesn't have problems with battery and of course has camera fully working. Also it need to have more then just english and chinese language
Would be nice if it was something based on Sense ROM's with few adjustments. Have tried already LeeDroid and I'm thinking about using it once again, but wanted to know if there is something else worth to try.

If u want stable , u should go to stock rom
Mildwild is still my favourite since its fast and stable.
I tried ChromiumRom for its look but found it to be a little laggy for my daily usage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516
MIUI-XJ was my first rom and really liked for its ability to switch up themes easily in 2.3.7 and its "iPhone-esque" feel but soon realised it was a bit heavy on resources and thus battery suffered.
Desire is getting old now so i would say go for the latest 'stable and fast' blend of ROM.
Presumably you are needing video camera to work fully, not just the still camera?
CarbonRom KitKat 4.4.3 and AOSB KitKat 4.4.4 - these are my favorites.
4.4.4 Beanstalk RC6
It's faster than GB!
Do you want stability and absolutely everything working? Then go for any (aosp preferably) gingerbread rom.
Do you want bleeding edge of development? Then go for the latest evervolv nightly based on 4.4.4 android. But you should forget video recording and expect some rough edges and no guarantees on stability.
It is a matter of choice after all.
