EDIT: Alright I solved it. I had to install Gordon's Gate. Those were the correct drivers, the ones I had were not. You can get the drivers from Flash Tool, in the drivers folder.
Alright guys of xda, I've spent the last six hours trying to fix this myself but I just can not do it with my knowledge of the Xperia Play. I wanted to ask this in the dev section but you know I can't post there until I post ten times in here. Instead of spamming the forums I'll just ask here.
Starting off, I have an R800i model bought off Ebay brand new. I love the phone, though it has no warranty so if I can't fix this I'm out $410. It was 2.3.3 prior to this mess.
I used this guide to unlock the bootloader. Yes it is confirmed to be unlocked as I tried it again and it said that it was already unlocked. I proceeded to follow step 2 and flashed the play_modded.img to my Xperia Play. After that I unplugged the USB and tried turning the phone on. To my expectations, I was stuck in a bootloop.
I looked around and tried flashing stock ROMS via Flash Tool 3.0 and 2.9.1 Beta. Both said I must go and turn on Debugging through the Android System. The system I don't have on the phone.
I tried to flash stock ROMS with fastboot, though they are ftf files, which I am not familiar with. The prompt said that the files were too big.
Another method I tried was the clockwork recovery mod that is booted from fastboot. I tried recovering a stock NANDROID backup that Logseman posted right here but it freezes at the Sony Ericsson splash screen.
I have downloaded at least two gigs trying to fix this in the last six hours to no avail. So I don't know what to do. I'm sorry for posting this in the wrong section, I just don't have an option and this is my last day off this week. I need to fix it today. I'll be on the forums refreshing this thread for the next twelve hours or until I get the fixed. So I will be here and responding instantly.
Actually, you've posted this in the right section
1) Download Flashtool 0.2.9.1 (you have done it already, I guess). 0.3.0.0 DOESN'T WORK with Xperia Play.
2) Download the 4.0.A.368 FTF file and put it in the "firmwares" folder of the Flashtool folder (if you haven't done so already).
3) Switch off the phone.
4) Fire up Flashtool. Click on "Flash" and choose the 4.0.A386 ROM
5) Obey the on-screen instructions about connecting your phone.
Once it's finished, you don't have to do anything more save booting your phone and using it. Ignore those "switch on USB debugging and Unknown sources".
I tried that and this is what I get.
Then.try.again. There is only one way to use Flashtool, and it's the one I've described.

I've never got any errors with flashtool, although some people don't seem to be able to use it
Trying again and again and again would never have worked. Brute force never does. I looked through the forums outside of the Xperia Play and I found a thread explaining how it was the drivers. I installed Gordon's Gate and it worked flawlessly the first time I tried, just as you described it.
It's not.about.brute force. It's about preparing the computer properly...

Well trying again and again isn't preparing the computer properly is it?
Either way your method did work and I greatly appreciate it. Thank you for the help.

I know this problem has been posted lots of times but I am really confused.
I followed this guide
http://www.techofweb.com/technology/root-sony-ericsson-xperia-play.html
to root my phone but now my sim card will not work in the phone
I read this thread but got totally confused
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266843
I am guessing from this thread I need to lock the boot loader but when I open X10FlashTool.exe it says
ERROR - Cannot identify your device. Found R800 while expecting X10, E10, U20 or E15 (read from ro.product.model from build.prop)
Please help me get my xperia play rooted and updated with my sim card working.
Make sure you're using flashtool beta version - 0.2.9.1 (afaik it's the only one to support the play).
Use these steps in the link (only if you have a R800i, if you have another model you need to find a .ftf file that matches your phone and then just do the other steps):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17747422&postcount=45
And there's no need for locking your bootloader for this, only if you intend to update OTA later on then you need to lock it after diong this. An update OTA or through SEUS or Pc Companion will brick it when you have an unlocked bootloader. So either disable auto update or relock bootloader
Regards Dousan...
e: if the first link is not enough take a look at this thread here, it should contain all you need to know on the matter of rooting/flashing etc. the play
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294129
Thank you for your reply. I can confirm in my phone it says model number r800i under settings about phone. So if I follow the steps in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17747422&postcount=45
It will update my phone to 2.3.4 and it will be able to access my sim card again?
Then turn off auto update to avoid brickage?

That is correct on both cases. You should get your signal back when flashing the ftf file (that's just stock SE FW)
Regards Dousan...
Nice glad I'm not doomed just a couple of questions though
1. Download the new FW.
2. Download CWM.
done
3. Download rootxperia.zip
where can I get this?
(sorry my bad found it) its on the same page as the CWM (ClockWorkMod)
also
(nordic version)
will I be able to change this to English?
ok kinda stuck at
6. Flash new FW with flashtool and boot and enable debugging and unknown sources and do setup (when you're at it download TB from market).
I downloaded
Download FlashTool version 0.2.9.1 Beta :
http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G (MD5: 4C370DDC5B6D40F96CA00D856019B19F)
from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
But the only options I have are X10, x10 Mini. X10 Mini Pro, X8 and Arc. When I click cancel I get this
09/011/2011 02:11:23 - INFO - <- This level is successfully initialized
09/011/2011 02:11:28 - ERROR - Cannot identify your device. Found R800 while expecting X10, E10, U20 or E15 (read from ro.product.model from build.prop)

09/012/2011 02:12:05 - ERROR - Unplug and replug your device to detect it
Am I doing something wrong or do I need to do something else to proceed.
I managed to figure out that I need to put R800i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1247-6212).ftf in the flashtool firmwares folder.
Then it asks me to turn off the phone and hold the back button then plug the usb cable in.
I was getting errors about missing drivers and read somewhere to install ggsetup-2.2.0.10.exe from the drivers folder in the flashtool files.
The problem is now when I try to connect the phone when holding the back button my pc crashes.
Do I need a specific driver for this or is it a problem with my pc or phone?
If you installed the ggsetup.exe you should have all the drivers needed. Don't know what causes your pc to crash mate, haven't seen that before.
If you have another pc/laptop try it on that or you might try to reinstall ggsetup.exe.
Regards Dousan...
There was some kind of problem with my desktop I guess so I tried on my laptop and it went fine sim card started working again as soon as I turned the phone on again.
When it came to the fastboot part that didn't work on my laptop so I tried on my desktop and it worked fine.
I've ended up with a rooted xperia play on 2.3.4 so I thank you so so much for taking me from what I thought was a bricked phone to a fully amazing updated and rooted one

1) hold the power + volume down for like 15 secs...(untill you feel a vibrate)
2) download flashtool at http://androxyde.github.com/

3) download whatever FTF you want at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345

make sure drivers are installed(find them in C:\Flashtool\drivers
4) Launch Flashtool

7) while holding the volume down button while the phone is off (From step 1)
insert REGULAR usb into computer

If it is an AT&T phone do you really want to update to LT28h?
why not install lt28h
all you have to do is just flash the extra ftf
and then just change the APN
which i as well as spectre have posted

The att version works fine has root and cwm

No reason to use the LT28h anymore since the LT28i and LT28at both have ICS and root.
In hope that someone's still looking at this thread, here is my situation: I tried flashing a prerooted image via fastboot and landed in a Sony bootloop. Then somehow I was stuck in fastboot-mode (led: static blue) and let the phone drain its battery. Now I'm able to get into flashmode but when flashing the chinese FTF with the Flashtool it stops at 1% with status "Processing .......sin" (sorry don't know the file exactly).
When I'm trying to power it up now the Sony logo comes up followed by an exclamation mark in a triangle... could you tell me what options there are left? I saw these prerooted images (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906), but there is none for the Ion, so I don't know what could be the next step. If I just had back my normal system... I used to flash my Galaxy S many times so I'm not that unexperienced, but it seems I really have a problem here:crying:
Any help is appreciated!

What model are you working with? And where did you get this prerooted image (the one you tried to flash)? From the link you posted I don't see one for the ion. Anyway, based on my own soft brick experience, you'll prolly need to let the phone battery drain, then charge (process can take a day or so), then try and flash your stock FTF via Flashtool.

I have had the 1% happen to me. I just unplug phone close and reopen flashtool and try again. Took me 3 times to get to flash once.
If still no luck, like spectre51 said use repair option in pc companion.
If all else fails use this thread

Thx for your hints! It is kinda frustrating to wait until it is fully loaded, then try flashing, then load and wait again... but the 1%-bug seemed to be a major bug as it is fixed now in the new version 0.9.8 of the flashtool.IGonna tray again tomorrow and report my status. I already checked popfan's thread to get a point if mydevice really is bricked or not. So again thanks to all of you!
Just out of curiosity: is there a possibility to flash a prerooted ftf-file? I live in Switzerland where I bought the lt28h version. And I haven't found a prerooted. img file for flashing via fastboot. Just want to root it, custom roms etc. later
Alright, I was able to flash the chinese FTF and got my phone back working:laugh:
But I had to install the newest version 0.9.8 of the flashtool to not get the 1%-bug again. After this roooting via bin4ry's script worked well and now I'm happy happy happy. Thank you all!
I also had problems with flashtool 9.7. I used 9.0 with no problems. Didn't know about 9.8.

as the OP of this thread, thought i'd update. After reading a few threads i discovered the power/volume button trick. tried volume down with no luck, but power and volume up worked. PC Companion did not work in upgrading the phone. just kept telling me to disconnect my battery, and that if the batter cannot be disconnected to skip that step. But it wouldn't go to the next step. So I tried SUS. Worked perfectly.
So, My phone is running lt28h and my wife is on lt28at. There are some differences in the way data is downloaded. looking at my AT&T bill, the data downloads, i assume for apps that get updated, seem to be different sources. also my phone has significantly larger downloads even though we have similar apps. I do have a couple of weather apps she doesn't have that might be responsible for that.
I'd like to do some additional comparisons, but think i'll be flashing the AT&T rom on my phone soon.
I have read through the other threads and from what I understand I may have a "soft brick" it also mentioned to ask first before I do anything, so I apologize in advance. I tried to update to JellyBean 2 days ago and had a game that froze I did a hard reset not knowing that it could potentially cause problems, I have done it in the past with no issues. PC companion downloaded the update and I followed the instructions as usual held volume key down plugged the usb in and it initially recognized my device but only for about 3 seconds. Now everytime I plug my phone into the PC it either says "unknown device" or it doesn't do anything other than start charging it. I have tried usb debugging mode switched between MTP and MSC modes all with the same result. Also I was reading the thread for "RECOVER SOFT-brick" and it provided the link for the flash tool and my device was not listed. Thank you in advace for your time and patience.

I am not sure what the update service is that you mentioned, I tried the repair option with pc companion but the computer wont recognize my phone when i plug it in. Tried while it was off held the volume down and plugged the usb in, the device looks like it is doing what it normally would when I am updating but then it just goes to the charge screen. So I assume that is not the repair that you were talking about, unless I am doing something wrong. I don't have the option of bringing it to sony right now because I am working overseas right now. Unless maybe I mailed it in I didn't want to go that route because it is my main source of communication for while I am out here.

I already have that update service I used it when they released the update before JB it was a new build#, the program worked great unfortunately it doesn't do me any good now because it still doesn't recognize my phone and I tried several times with all the diffirent modes and options combinations I could think of. I am not near a Sony store and will not be for some time, I may have to try something more drastic or just purchase a new phone. Thank you again for your assistance

Settle down dude, dont do anything drastic. First read up on soft bricks. Now i need to know does your device boot? you dont exactly describe the condition of your phone. If possible try flashing it with flashtool and the latest JB ftf (to enter flash mode on our lt28at ion you connect the phone to the usb cable, hold vol down and connect the usb cable to the pc when flashtool tells you to).

My apologies, yes I believe my phone does boot so far the only issue I can see as of right now is that I cannot connect to my laptop or anyone else's. I have tried holding the volume key down and plugging in the usb numerous times with no luck it only charges when I do this. I have read up on soft bricks and it seems simple enough but I didn't know for sure what the problem is with my device, other users had mentioned that along with usb issues I could have messaging and phone call issues. I have been using wifi and the tango app for communication for the past four months because of where I am located there is no service and also the reason I have not brought it in to a store. But back to flashing the device I have never attempted it on this device or any other so I was a little nervous about permanently bricking it, I looked at one link in another thread that had the latest JB ftf and my device was not listed. Also is there a specific flashtool you recommend? Thank you for your help

That was exactly what I thought initially as well so I did a back up on my computer and installed win7 ultimate after it was installed I made sure all of my drivers were working and up to date, I also tried it out on several other computers just to make sure it was the phone. Also just to be sure my computer was working properly I had one of the other guys here plug his phone into my computer and it came up instantly.
I think I may have misunderstood the fast boot question I thought the question was if the phone would boot from being off.

I followed the instructions from both of the threads, but I keep running into the same problem. My device is not listed among the drivers to install, I scrolled to the right on each one just to make sure it was not part of a group. Before I got this reply I followed the tutorial basically the flashtool for dummies like myself and down loaded the correct firmware for my device. I followed the instructions to run the flashtool selected my firmware started the flash tool, it told me to hold volume down while plugging in the phone just like I would with pc companion and probably 3 secs after plugging it in the only thing that would happen is I would get the usual windows prompt that "the device is not recognized" I thought for sure this was the solution, perhaps I am missing a step? I am officially at a loss now lol I even went to the threads specific to the ion lt28at and it was all quite simple right up until plugging in, any more insight would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate the link but that was basically instructions on how to start the flash tool properly it seems, I still can't get the flash tool to recognize it is plugged in. I believe the issue is with the device driver, problem is the ION lt28 is not in the list of drivers. Is there another one that I am supposed to use that is compatible? I thought it had to be specifically for my device, again I appreciate all the help you all are giving me this is becoming a frustrating process for what seems so simple

I know this is over a month old, so i'm sure the info is no longer helpful...but this 'driver' issue has plagued Ion owners since the phone released...
in reality...its not a problem...but just 50 members all sort of saying the same thing in different words...
the Lt28 series of devices does NOT need any model specific driver from that install_drivers.exe app in flashtool's directory...You ONLY have to install the flash mode driver (for an Ion with a locked boot loader) or flash mode and fast boot drivers for unlocked bootloaders, if you play on using fastboot with flashtool for various services...
you DO NOT need to install that entire list of drivers for an Ion...they have nothing to do with this series of phone...all other necessary device drivers are automatically installed when setting up PC companion, or simply plugging in the phone (if you skip pc companion)...
any issue with flash tool and it saying 'device drivers not found'...you're missing the flash mode driver...and nothing else...
Hello everyone
Got Nexus 7 (2013) few days ago and now tried to root manually (from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2382051)
and everything was fine untill I tried to flash TWRP in command (fastboot flash recovery recovery-twrp.img) and flashing didn't end, had to close cmd or unplug USB to stop it, once unplugged it said "Too many links" or something like that, tried doing it bunch of times with older versions and what not, nothing worked.
Then found out about Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh and again, everything was fine, drivers checked and working, but once it got to the spot where it had to boot .img file it just never ended, as seen on tutorial videos it takes about half a second to load it, I waited for 10 minutes but nothing.

So I guess its something wrong with transfering files to Nexus 7 ? Even tho I was able to import few files to it before. Maybe something on my PC is blocking it ? :silly:
Frustrated and exhausted Would appreciate any help, Im new at android stuff so please detailed answers
Thanks.

Just tried running in admin mode, didn't work, still wont boot boot.img, and it would be same with chainfire on any other root method
So, here's the deal with this phone. It's sat untouched for many many years. The original owner can't remember why she got rid of it (family friend). So I volunteered to take it, and turn it into an emulator device. However, it was made clear as to why she got rid of it. The phone is stuck in a gnarly boot loop. The boot loop is, Sony Ericsson screen lit up, and then goes to an unlit version of the logo. After a while, the phone will restart repeat. The phone will get into flash mode (green light) and will not continue the loop but stays on the unlit version of Sony Ericcson. I've gotten it into fastboot once, maybe twice, but I can't remember exactly how I did it (holding menu doesn't work)
I have installed the drivers for the phone, however, the phone is listed as:
E:\
Device Type: Portal Device
Manufacturer: SEMC
Location: on Volume
The drivers that it is apparently using is wpdfs.inf
Things I have tried to correct this issue.
-The Xperia app (tells me to enter flashmode in its own way and never does anything after)
-Flashing using "FlashTool"
It sees a phone but just says.
"19/025/2018 22:25:46 - INFO - Device connected with USB debugging off
19/025/2018 22:25:46 - INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode"
I've attempted using a fastboot method but nothing substantial as fastboot rarely happens.
Accessing the device through ADB (ADB shows not devices connected
Accessing the device through FastBoot (FastBoot shows "waiting for devices")
I have crawled through dozens of pages worth of information, similar questions, similar problems and come up short. Any advice would be super helpful.
Will provide images, and further information if requested. Thanks for your time.
I'm not familiar with the at version. Also maybe its already stated in the post and I miss it, did u try flashmode on flashtools and flash stock TFT?this is the first thing you wanna do in case of problems. For fastboot if I remember correctly you have to push search button and not the menu button, but I haven't my xplay with me.

Hey, I did try flashing the stock firmware, the version is the AT&T version from the US. The problem with attempting to flash is Flashtool doesn't detect the phone. It sees that there's a phone plugged in, but flashing is impossible because it can't find the phone. I figured it must've been a driver issue, so I scoured the web to find drivers but only could find the 800a drivers, so I went ahead and attempted those, but not to no avail.
My next attempt to bring out Windows 7 and attempt to install the drivers on Windows 7, instead of 10. Just been a bit slow, and feeling a bit dejected on the whole project.

to install flashtools drivers in win 10 you need to disable uac but maybe you already did that. make sure the adb drivers are fully and correctly installe. have you tried flashing a kernel in fastboot mode by pushing the search button? also i would try to install r800i or r800a drivers. then i would suggest to make a little bit of search (i know you already did a lot...) to ensure that you can flash r800i or r800a firmware on your r800at and also try that route. i´m sorry i can´t help you more but i´m in europe and never worked on a r800at..
Hey, dont worry about it. This post is basically a hail mary for a phone that super old. I haven't tried flashing in fast boot because I have only ever gotten in fast boot once or twice. Fast boot is menu key correct? Cause I see conflict information all over the place.
i´m pretty sure it´s the search button for fastboot mode
Do you need a new battery?
Hi Disenfranchised,
I recently got out my old r800i GSM which was regularly being flung across the lounge by my kids, attached a charging cable and I had exactly the same boot loop issues as yours, but only as long as the phone was being charged. I ended up biting the bullet and buying a new battery and the phone started up. I ended up flashing Gin2Kat and it has been working well other than occasionally reverting back to the same behaviour for about an hour if the battery was completely discharged. The funny thing is when i finally manage to boot the phone at the right point during the boot loop cycle, the battery is only at 2%, meaning during the boot loop the battery is charging for maybe only a fraction of the on-off cycle.
It's a bit of an outlay (my battery was about GBP £10 - ebay). I now play SNES games on this every day during my commute. There are a few quibbles - the audio out port doesn't work (bluetooth audio works) and I get a wifi error but I ended up using Gin2Kat's apk installer to install my apps from micro-sd.
Anyway, it's a bit of a risk but see how it goes.
