If you are on a G2 and using a stock or AOSP-based ROM (eg. CyanogenMod), pressing Alt + Spacebar will bring up a set of punctuations and symbols that you can choose from. This function disappears when you switch to a Sense-based ROM (eg. Virtuous); Alt + Spacebar now brings up the keyboard select settings screen.
Is there any way to bring the Alt + Spacebar function back in a Sense-based ROM? I've tried changing the keymaps but that didn't help, and I've not been able to find any alternative solutions.

I am using an AT&T Tilt2 with stock ROM. I am not being able to get a key on the hardware keyboard to remap to CTRL.
I have tried manually editing the eT9.Rhodium.Cingular_US.kmap.txt file (using 0x11 for the value). I have also tried using the Rhodium Keyboard Controller. Neither seem to do the trick. The key I remap (tried OK, home, and several others) stops doing the original function. Instead of what I would expect for CTRL it just does nothing.
For now I have mapped fn-C -> CTRL-C and such, but I would like to get a key to actually map to CTRL.
Any ideas on how to get this to work?
I agree.
Bump for more interest please.
Anyway to add CTRL to the stock SIP touch keyboards too?
I miss my Ctrl-A (select all) / Ctrl-C (copy) / Ctrl-V (paste) amongst other common keyboard commands too!

im afraid you will have to flash custom rom to enable ctrl remapping
For the kmap bit did you use the 0x11 as the second value? IE did you change it to something like:
{0xEC 0x11 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00} //example for the FN key remap.
Also make sure to use something like Notepad to modify the file. It needs to be saved as unicode.
Having some troubles with the keymapping on the G2 (Vision) when running Virtuous 0.70 - can anyone test on the stock ROM and verify if they are able to complete key presses to the correctly mapped keys?
There is no way that I am able to find a way to press the ":" key ... this makes it impossible to access "D:" after mounting it.
When pressing ALT + .) I get a forward slash
When pressing ALT + L(/) I get a back slash
When pressing ALT + H(*) I get nothing
When pressing ALT + ,( I get a comma
It looks like most of the other keys work - however it is impossible to change drive letters without a working ":" key and the current keypress to perform ":" yields a /
Any work-a-rounds?
Thanks!
Hello every one
i wanted to remove the 3dot menu button ,
so i did as written here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27048426&postcount=549
(special thanks to the author )
now i have the recent apps key remapped to setting(menu) and the 3dot menu removed, but no recent apps key
i was wondering if there is a way (the more simple , the better!) to map long press recent apps button to recent apps that works everywhere ?
(on both sense and go launcher for example)
+
is it possible to do something like this to home button for switching between launchers?
what i am looking for summarized :
- 3dot menu removed - done
- recent apps button press => setting(menu) - done
- recent apps button long press => recent apps
- home button press => home (as it already is)
and optionally
- home button long press => a mechanism to switch between launchers !
my phone is htc one X international, (stock) unlocked bootloader and rooted and nothing else , version 1.29.415.11
P.S. if its not possible to use long press recent apps , how can i use long press home as recents apps switcher?
I have got my Note II rooted and flashed the Android Revolution HD Rom.
Everything was fine and it worked smoothly.
But after installation of many apps, a problem turned out yesterday:
The menu button function has been mapped to the home button, which means when I pressed the home button, it will detected as menu button instead.
After that, I use the KEY TEST in the CWM Recovery to test the key setting.
I found that the home button is wrongly detected as the menu key. (It returns the same Code 139 when I pressed the two buttons)
the result shown as attached
How can I fixed this problem by reset the hard key map setting?
Please Help
Thanks so much!
Before updating to lollipop, Nova launcher would allow me to remap the button to be a menu button instead of recent apps. It no longer does this and it is killing me...I am so used to it the other way! Is there a way to do this on lollipop?
Have you tried long pressing recent button that is how you can get the menu to pop up its been that way since kk

Thank you for the response... Even on kitkat when you use Nova launcher it allows you to make the soft key open settings instead of recent apps. With lollipop it no longer works like that.
Dunno which keys were for recent apps but here's a guide to get to it.
Use a root explorer.
Go to
/system/usr/keylayout.
Backup file Generic.kl ( copy it as a .bk or something )
Then find the word RECENT_APPS linking with the code number, change RECENT_APPS to MENU.
I don't know how to change long press home as Recent apps though, I tried finding the key but all "SEARCH" keys were something else entirely when I changed to RECENT_APPS, didn't work on touchwiz.

I followed your advice and all i can got was my new brand Doogee x30 (Nougat) being bricked! I restored the Generic.kl and nothing!-All buttons were unresponsive except the touchscreen. I lost all my data and the only solution was to flash the stock rom. Thank you very much!
