[Q] Why is my flashlight/camera flash blueish? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason my camera flash and my torch app is very blue looking. For a very split second when you first turn on the flash it looks proper white and then it dims down and looks a lot more blue. almost like the flash is being made of blue/yellow. which gives my pictures a very strange look. Any idea how to fix this?
Running CM 7.1

Must be a hardware issue, can't imagine your rom being able to affect that (check with other rom's to be sure).
Take a picture of a white piece of paper so we can see.
I'd go with a warranty repair/replace if it was noticeably bad.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

So this is what it looks like...
I just flashed latest cm nightly 183 and same problem.
The thing I find strange is that for a very quick time the light is bright and white and then dims down and turns a blueish tint

Try a sense-based ROM and MIUI.
But That must be a hardware issue.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Just flashed stock ruu and same issue so I'll try and take it in for a warranty and see what happens

Definitely a hardware problem.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt

They sent it away for a harware fix under warranty.
Plus I got a desire hd because my contract was almost up so 3 year pricing on that

Yea ^^^^ he is right that has happened to me before is not a software problem but a hardware issue... you should unroot your phone and take to Sprint and if you have insurance they will replace it but if they ask you if you dropped it tell them no.. just say that you were taking piks or something and you started to get random reboots and your camera started to fail.. I don't knw if their new policy would cover that since people be saying that it has changed but hey it doesn't hurt to try.
Good luck
Push Lightly On The camera
My camera lens fell off and I didn't worry about it for awhile. I noticed the similar thing on mine, and i pushed the camera and the color went away. I did unroot take it to sprint, with the lens and they swapped it out. Now of course my replacement has a bum speaker and dust under the digitizer. ugg....
Hardware... But not camera....
I had the same issue (pink screen/pink pictures). The repair center put in another camera. I watched them do it. They even tried two cameras and the pictures still were pink. So, its hardware related, but its something other than the camer that needs replaces. They gave me a brand new EVO on the spot.
It is a known issue.

Screen Flicker - Response from HTC

I have had my One X since last week on O2, I have noticed the screen flicker on full brightness. So I decided to contact HTC about this and they told me that there must be a problem with my device and to send it back to O2 and get a new one.
If that true then the new 1.28 OTA will not fix the problems that we myte have and it’s a hardware fault 
What do you class as a flicker? I notice my screen dimming and brightening fairly regularly under artificial light. Is your flickering more regularly?

You are right. Go and return it for a new one... HTC told me the same!

I'm the same.
Had an undranded One X from phones for you with terrible screen flicker.
I phoned HTC and they said it was def not normal or something that could be fixed with a software update.
I'm just back from exchanging it for a new one and this one is flicker free.
seems there are different types of screen flickers...
i experienced once something like a bad analog tv reception on a very small rectangular portion in the upper left corner when using the browser. you couldn't figure out what was "underneath" it.
it disappeared the same way it appeared...out of the blue
Hi, guys. What do you mean by screen flicker? Im finding that with mine on full brightness it appears as if the backlight part is flickering. Is this what you guys have had? thanks

When you say screen flicker is this happening all the time? I mean are you talking on the home screen and in apps or just when things are loading etc...?

this is not a flicker this one is the browser glitch
silly game HTC is making us play really....more n more i realize i was stupid not to keep the grey that was running perfectly
I just can't see how it can be hardware...
Mine is flickering at times too.It seems like just about every device that is out there is doing it. I still think its software based, and probably a setting to do with the LCD display. If its hardware then HTC are going to run out of phones...
it's what is being discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592157
and HTC CS said the same to me, do a DOA. So I don't think it's software related. Those responsible at HTC should have let their employees know by now if it was SF related, so there's no indications it is so.
Thinking back to when my MacBook had a flickering problem a few years back and when I remember a Dell laptop at work having had an issue before too; I am sure Apple/Dell simply released firmware updates to fix the problem as it was an update that had caused the problem.
Surely something similar can/will be done with the HTC? Maybe its not happening on all devices and is inconsistant so HTC are telling people to DOA there devices whilst they work on a fix for it (maybe OTA)?
I just find it hard to believe that I have had 2x devices now and both have suffered different issues that it could always be the hardware. It would have to be seriously bad luck for 2x phones to come with issues down to the hardware; usually when this many people are having problems its a software issue over hardware (isn't it?).
I mean mine is flickering slightly on certain screens or during certain actions, I don't want to DOA a second device just to get this problem again as I really do love the phone. If the flickering can/will be fixed then I am happy to wait for that, but as mentioned before at this rate everyone with be DOA'ing devices just for the sake of it as different devices just seem to have the same and/or similar issues.
I have this problem. What is weird is that if I charge the phone fully the problem disappears until discharge at reaching like 80% where it starts to appear again and gets worst over discharge. I'd like to know if I'm alone. If not there are chances an OTA can solve it as it would be some kind of bad power management of the screen. And we all know our power management has some troubles

Well I didn't notice it at all today, but I have noticed it when my device got to around 68% battery. Although it could of triggered before but I might not have been on the device. Whilst I was using it from 100% down to 86% everything was running perfectly fine with no flicker at all.
Could it be an app/widget in the background that is causing it? Then again probably not as we would all of had to install that same app/widget so ignore me there (thinking out loud).
It seems a lot of the initial launch day stock have the flicker.
I got mine on the 5th from Phones4U and my phone and some others sold that day have been returned to the same store.
The one I got today is totally flicker free on all colours. The screen seems totally different. It's not as blindingly bright as my original one but of a much better quality.
It may be software related but this would suggest otherwise.
If the thoery of it appearing while battery is going down it could just be some underpowering of the screen. That sounds logical and solvable via OTA.
I don't think any app could do that

Yeah it does... As I said thinking back to Macbook/Laptop and the flicker (which had LCD screens) they were sorted via a firmware upgrade as I mentioned; which really would lead me to think OTA could sort it and that HTC are saying to DOA devices simply because they don't have a solution right at this moment in time.

Wasn't aware of this MacBook case. Nice to hear.
As I had some troubles with HTC i can tell you that (at least in France it works this way) their support service is like a different company. There is no communication between them and that is wanted for you not to be able to go far in complains. The people at these support center just read there scripts and know less of the product than we do. They can't be aware of early releases issues this way so for them the only solution is a new device. In the end that is stupid because they loose money and their good reputation

Thats exactly how it happens over here mate; would rather do the quick fix (handset exchange) than worry about the problem as they are reading from a script and probably don't even really understand the problem... By giving you another device they can simply bide time to report the problem to the technical team to work on a resolution.
I get that flicker only at lock screen when the notification lock screen its select it. Other than that none. So I can't use that lockscreen

Screen flashes black

Hi, when i open my gamepad slightly my screen will flash black, and if i hold it in a certain positionbit will stay black until moved.
This also happens sometimes when picking up my phone
Is it a loose cable or something?
Should i get it replaced?
Rooted stock R800i, .42
Thanks
Probably the ribbon cable inside the slider. It's a known defective part.

So i could claim it on my warranty?
I got this problem too. But mine worse, sometimes when I wanna type a message the screen goes black, or the screen's light go like disco light, keep blinking at the home page and camera. I sent to Sony Centre to claim warranty but after few days they returned me and told me it was a software problem. Could this be kernel problem?
Yeah, sometimes just touching the screen can do it
I want to unroot before i cant see anything haha
Ive noticed that its just the backlight that goes off, if i make it go black and look at the screen in light i can still see the things there
Im going to request a replacement regardless, starting to annoy me
I tried to reinstall stock firmware but no use. Still the same. I'm gonna tear everything apart and take a look at the ribbon.

DO NOT I repeat, DO NOT take it apart!!
Once you do that your warranty is void permanently and no way to hide it! I can guarantee it's not your software. Revert it to absolute perfect stock and show them it still happens. I'm positive it's the hardware, NOT software.
If they don't wanna fix it after factory restoring, threaten to call head office about it because you already know it's hardware error and they are refusing.
And also mention that many people on the internet are aware that the slider cable is faulty, many have replaced it and fixed the same problem you have.
I'm thinking of mailing them, and requesting they have a recall because more and more people are having the same problem.

Ok, the screen only flashes black on SYSTEM APPS. The installed apps dont have this issue
Seems to have happened after i rooted
Any new ideas?
Okay. Thanks captain. I will follow your orders.
Ok, so ive tried to claim on my warrenty. They said they were gunna send a packet out to return the phone for repair. This was a few weeks ago. Within this time i have called them up 3 extra times stating i havnt recieved the pack.
Is this easy enough to fix myself as im bored of waiting for them and im doubting im ever going to recieve any repair
Thanks

camera - yellow flash and motion blur

My one x seems to give a really bad yellow tint when using the flash in photos.
Any one know of a fix?
Also it has quite bad motion blur. Just taking photos of people, if their arms move and not their head, the arms are completely blurred but their head isn't.
same problem here..yellow tint for close up photos by using flash..good quality without flash..do we need to change any settings? iso/white balance etc. to sort this out.
---------- Post added at 02:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:49 AM ----------
just found a way to overcome this yellow tint issue with flash...reduce the saturations to -1 and the yellow tint has almost disappeared...it is a temporary solution till HTC sorts it out in the next OTA hopefully.
Same problem to, i dont think its software issues. My gf HTC one x has much whiter white.
Skickat från min HTC One X via Tapatalk 2
every time i get this problem, it is cancelled making refocus image... i can't get explanation for why.. but often i solve the problem with this procedure.
sorry for my bad english

I compared pictures made on my phone with those of my wife's sensation xl and hers camera produces much more life like colored pictures without any noise. I already posted this remarks on HTC official blog, but received no answers for it.
Also I noticed that in reviews of hox, reviewers used HDR function and pictures were perfect as opposed to mine, where people are "ghosts", because they moved when I was taking HDR images and so their legs, arms were duplicated and transparent... weird! This doesn't happen again on my wife's sensation xl. Same camera, completely different results.
I also sent this remarks to HTC support almost a month ago, but received no answer from them.
Hi guys, recently I've noticed the same thing. With flash I get a horrible yellow tint, but without flash the pictures looks awesome. I'm going to email htc and we'll see if I get any usefull info.

Try changing the white balance to florescent when using flash ?
could help, but I suspect you'd get a bluish tint.
Official answer from HTC support about my camera problems:
I apologies that the camera and video recorder are not up to your requirements, the device does have image stabilisation so it should not be having any of these issues, after looking at your camera I can see that it is definitely not working correctly, whether it be a hardware or software issue would be hard for me to diagnose and I would advise performing a factory reset to see if that resolves the issue.
I already contacted them, they replied that their test phone was working fine and they enjoyed taking photos on it, and that I should learn how to use the camera properly or take a few shots to see which comes out best for my usage, lol!

HTC One X Camera fault

Hi all,
first post here. I've been sucking info from this site for the past year so thank you all for all your helpful info.
I have just bought a HTC one x from a friend with a faulty camera. I was wondering if anyone has come across this fault before. when using the main camera. the screen goes green like it's crashed. all messed up. I don't think it is a hardware fault but then I haven't read this fault anywhere yet.
Yep well known issue.
Its mainly when flash is on right?
This isn't hardware I don't think mate, it is a software bug.

No, what he means is the whole screen is green, can't see anything, which basically means the camera crashed and is either undetectable or damaged, or a kernel problem

yeah..i also have this pb..when I make a photo with flash everything is green..also after I make the photo also the green thing is on the screen(while I 'm in camera)...
how can i fix this pb?

Yes thats what i mean. Cant see or do anything. green crashed screen. ive flashed it back to stock and its still the same so im guessing it is damaged camera. painful as camera is on main board to cant really replace it or fix it in any way.
Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm debating weather to just sell it on ebay to recoup some of my money. its definitely not the same issue as the green kind of filter that occurs quite a lot with the camera. I posted it as i couldn't find any posts anywhere about this issue.
it s related to KERNEL.. on ICS is find..so it's a software pb.

Hey this Thread is a bit old, but maybe you're having the same problem I am:

See if it's similar.
If it is, I replaced camera, nothing, flashed rom, nothing, not sure if hardware or software yet, but i changed HBOOT and Flashed ARHD 21.0, and NOTHING happens.. still green :\
