I have auto brightness switched off but it sometimes switches itself back on. It always does this when I reboot the phone. I've checked apps that have brightness settings and all of them have auto brightness switched off so I'm confused why it defaults, especially on reboot, to auto.
Is this normal? Any ideas?
I seem to have a lot of questions tonight.
Once you have so 'many' problems with your current rom (auto-reset to auto-brightness, high battery drain by dialer, wrong contacts display), I suggest to wipe everything and flash it again.

Not just this ROM though Matdroid. I had the same auto brightness issue with CM7, RCMix, InsertCoin and my current ROM (Cool Sensation). That's why I'm beginning to think this is normal but I'm guessing you don't have this problem so there must be a setting somewhere that's causing this on my phone.

Except for the autobrightness issue (do not use it), you are right, I do not have these problems. To be very sure it's not the rom, go back to stock. If the problems persist, call htc.

Has anybody had an issue where when they press the power button, the screen will turn off for a moment, then come right back on? And if so, does anyone know a solution? I've looked around on the forums a bit, and its a problem on other phones where the screen has to be at at least 40% brightness, but it happens to me no matter how high or low the brightness setting is. Running ACS 1.0.2, but it has happened on other ROMS before, so i doubt it is a ROM issue.
I have had this happen too, but only in CM 7. And just figured it was because that rom is in the alpha stage right now. I have not had it happen in any other rom so far. When it was happening it was only some of the time. Was never able to figure out what the differences were when it would and wouldn't happen. Seemed like it was just random.

I've since found this happens very often when the brightness is up all the way, and the lower the brightness, the less it happens. Could this be a software problem?
I had this happen a few months ago. I wasn't sure what was causing it. At first it was turning on the lock sound, and the sound would play after the screen shuts off. Then the sound would kick the screen back on. I believe I changed ROM later and it never happened again. If you are on a custom ROM, maybe try reflashing?
I have had the exact same thing happen on 2 different Roms. Just wipe and flash and it fixes the problem.

Unfortunately that only lessened it, not fixed it. It still happens enough that I leave the brightness down. Tried multiple times. :/
This still happens on a fresh stock install of EC05. Could this be a hardware issue that I should get checked out?
I love the DINC2 so far, but one thing that I wish I could change is the softkey brightness.
Are they supposed to be always on? Even with the clock in night mode?
I tried LED hacks and a few other brightness control apps, but no luck so far.
Does anyone know of an app that can dim/turn off the softkey backlight?

LOL just flash virtuous 2.35 softkeys don't work, but everything else does. No softkeys lighting up is not all that bad.

Nope

Well, so much for that!
Thanks for letting me know.
what rom are you running? stock? on cyanogen mod the softkeys go out on night mode in the clock app.
Right now I'm running the debloated stock, but am thinking of skyraider zeus.
Had it on there yesterday, but then lost mobile service after unlocking the SIM, and decided to try the stock rom. Service came back, and now I'm chicken to try flashing again.
Does global mode work with cyanogen? I will use this phone in Europe later this year and want a stable rom with working global.

According to post #18 SkyRaider Zeus does work in global mode. I haven't tested it, but I have been running SkyRaider Zeus for about a week now and I love it.
Yep, that's part of the reason I want to use it, but I'd like it even better if it had softkey backlight control, too. I guess I will have to risk flashing and seeing what happens with the softkeys.
When I ran it yesterday, it was bright daylight, and I only noticed how annoying the backlit keys were later that night, when the phone was running debloated stock.
There's no risk flashing most stable roms from the dev section. Make sure you have a working backup of your current rom and you're good to flash new ones. I had an issue trying to mess with global mode on my phone once and it required me to do a restore of a working backup I had then all was fine again.
Also in the cm7 thread this post confirmed working global mode recently. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17245922

When I ran into the no service problem after unlocking the Sim, I restored via cwm, but nothing
worked. Got an endless 'loading, this can take several minutes. Please wait.
This was the backup of the stock ROM, though.

if you had issues restoring a backup in clockwork then it wouldnt have been because you unlocked the sim card. sounds like you had a corrupt backup or something went wrong with the backup you were trying to restore. but out of curiosity, how long did you let it try to restore before you gave up?
The restore went through successfully, according to CWM, but when the phone restarted, I was stuck with: Loading! It can take several minutes. Please wait.
I waited for an hour, and then flashed the debloated ROM.
What happened after the SIM unlock (I was running Skyraider Zeus at the time), was that I lost my mobile service.
I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I hope you didn't lose any data. I run cm7 nightlies. I have heard that cm7 supports global mode. I also use an app called "Screen Filter". When I was unrooted/stock, the app would not turn off my softkey backlight (there is an option to enable or disable softkey backlight), but on cm7, the feature works. I have two widgets, one set at 46.8% without softkey backlight, and one set at 97.8%, also without softkey backlight. The second one barely dims the screen, and turns the softkey backlight off. And best of all, with cm7 I am able to assign one of them to long press search key, so I can turn off the softkey lights from anywhere. I have not tested it, but there is a chance this could work on a rooted sense rom (the screen filter setting). I know it works on cm7 though.
Also, with cm7 you can control the brightness of the softkeys (if you only want to dim them) if you customize the auto-brightness (the setting is built into the rom), but then you have to use auto-brightness (I do that as well).
Hope that helped!

Thank you!
You don't know how happy it makes me to hear that cm7 does global and screen filter works with the softkey backlight!
I'm a big fan of Screen Filter, anyhow.
Can you tell me where I can find the latest stable version of cm7 to try out? Or do I need to grab a nightly?
Any ideas on battery use, and signal strength with cm7? I have pretty horrible signal strength with the debloated stock rom, though it was no better with the unrooted stock.

There is no stable version yet, but here is the link for the nightlies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156343
I find them stable enough for daily use. I have used WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, Tethering, SMS and MMS with Handcent, etc. and have never had any problems (other than the compass issue with AOSP, which I really don't mind, as it's fine when I'm moving).
There is also a beta:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1153261
if you don't want to deal with nightlies. I haven't used it, but I have heard it's good enough for daily use.
I do have pretty bad signal strength with this rom, however I have always had bad signal strength and have never dropped a call/had to resend a message. At best I can get around -80 dbm, but usually I'm around -90.
My battery use has been okay. Not 72 hours like some people report (I don't see how that's possible with any rom), but with ~2 hours of screen on time, I'm usually just below 50% at the end of the day. So I charge every night, but I never worry about making it through a day. I use the Tiamat kernel because without it the speaker on calls is too low for me, but another benefit is that Tiamat includes the smartass governor, which is supposed to help battery life.
Thanks again!
I'll check out cm7.
Yes! It works!
I have the latest nightly and screen filter controls the backlight!
Thanks a million, and also for mentioning the long press option.
Now I use that for turning off the soft keys when reading. Much nicer than having to go back to the home screen.
Hello,
I have HTC Desire (rooted), the ROM is stock.
Some week ago, I've noticed that sometimes, when I start the call or when I'm called - the speakerphone is on and I need to switch it off if I don't want that all people around me hear my conversation.
At first, this was happening quite occasionally. As the time goes by, it's happening randomly but more often.
I have tried to factory reset my phone, but the problem still exists - no improvement!
Also tried to uncheck car dock auto launch, although I'm not using any dock so it would be strange that dock mode would be activating.
No success whatever I've tried so far
Please is there some idea what could be causing that speakerphone issue?
Thanks,
Denis
You could try flashing a new rom. Besides fixing the issues, the stock-based roms in the dev section run better, and support init.d scripts.

Thanks, I need some time to decide on moving to the new ROM but this one (MildWild CM-5.0) looks exactly as what I need. Are you aware of any shortcomings related to MildWild CM-5.0 (for instance GPS, sync, anything..)?
What stays quite confusing to me is that even after I did hard reset (wiped all and installed from scratch), the issue with speakerphone is still there. Looks almost like some hardware issue, is that possible?

Mildwild is the perfect balance between performance, looks and battery life. It's one of the best ROM's in this section.
Hard reset only deletes your data. It doesn't restore your system partition. That's where the problem is.
After no reply, I'm editing the title and the rest.
System:
Phone: LG SU640
OS: Android 4.1.2 V30C V3 ROM by team TNT(SU640_TNT_V3_OK.zip)
Problem/s:
A)
1. After rebooting the phone, brightness reverts back to 100% and Auto Brightness is deselected automatically.
2. Screen timeout reverts back to 2 Minutes, no matter what I do.
Steps I've taken:
1. Flashed back to V10i_00.kdz, tried upgrading to V30C, then flashing the custom ROM by team TNT, this was done many times.
2. Tried apps to control brightness but even if something works a bit, it almost kills the games' like subway surfer or Air Attack HD's performance.
B)
I can't even run any custom rom since they lag like hell and are almost unusable.
I've run out of options. Will some experienced person please take some of his/her precious time and give some advice regarding these problems.? I'm stuck here an almost unusable phone. I'll be happy with anything that works properly.
I'll really appreciate it.
SOLUTION:
Get the ROM and Instructions link from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373902
Follow exact instructions for flashing it and let the ROM settle for some hours, it may get stabilized after a few Reboots.
Avatar ROM isn't behaving well, neither is AOKP. Heard good feedback about CM on this model.
Edit: Brightness problem isn't just on this model, I've been told that LG LU6200 has the same bug so it is software related.
When you select 100% Brightness, and then you check auto brightness, nothing happens. It works only when you lower the brightness slider, yes, you can still adjust brightness slider when it should be disabled. LG should fix this.
Anyone with any suggestion at all?
I've done everything I could, please help me so I can use my phone again.

First of all, thank you for replying.
Yes, auto brightness works in Avatar Rom without any problems but the ROM itself lags like hell for some reason. I've tried MIUI unofficial too but the same lag.
It worked in stock GB too but then I flashed it and it stopped working. When I flashed it to ICS, Auto brightness settings used to stick at the boot but not anymore.
Auto brightness feature is adjustable through velis auto brightness program but it has a severe negative impact on the performance of any running applications. Experimenting with softwares revealed that the sensor itself isn't faulty.
As a last resort, I tried updating it with official lg online updater and it updated the stock rom to V30D. Now brightness settings reverts back, auto brightness is unselected and screen timeout goes back to 2 Minutes.
Very frustrating.
Edit: I'll be very happy if I can use Avatar ROM on my phone without any lag, then I won't have to rely on stock ROM.
Edit 2: I can't reply to any message via inbox. Whatever the problem is.
I've only noticed this since running the August security updated and its happened across three ROMs so far (Screwed, Pure Nexus, LOS (No gapps)). Sometimes the screen takes for ever to power up. Once it is up the lock screens responsiveness varies greatly. Not always in the same instance as the screen issue but when unlocking the device it will momentarily freeze. Sometimes locking itself again..
Curious if anyone has seen anything similar.
How are you restoring your apps when you flash a ROM? If you restore them from a Google cloud backup you could be restoring corrupted data that is causing the problem. I had that happen when a utility app completely screwed up the scrolling on my phone. I did a factory reset but restored my phone from a cloud backup and the problem came back exactly the same. The next day I did another factory reset but set up the phone as new and manually downloaded my apps from the Play Store. This time the problem was gone.

I'm not sure if that could cause the same problem but presumably you are restoring app data along with the apps so it might be possible. Have you tried using the phone in safe mode to see if the problem still persists? It seems unlikely that what you are experiencing is a known issue with the August security update since we are more than halfway through the month without anyone else reporting a similar issue.

Yeah that would make sense if you are seeing the same thing. I may jump back to a known good build and see what happens
I had a very similar issue with tremendous lag in screen on and unlocking.
It turned out to be Kernel related, I was using Kirisakura Harmony Kernel, while it was happening to me, I flashed Franco R8 kernel and all is well.

So I was experiencing REALLLY SLOW screen turn ons. Like it could take 30+ seconds. But the phone was awake as my LED was on, and fingerprint haptic feedback.
When looking for solutions, I found this post. I use Auto Hide Soft Keys, to hide my status bar and nav bar when I dont need them. When disabling (and even after re-enabling), the problem was fixed (for now anyways)
Can you elaborate on this post? Do you have some experience with nav bar hiding causing slow screen turn ons?
