My Defy

Hii guys, i m new to this forum .this is first post. Last week i got motorola defy which is my 1st android mobile. I accept that i m completely noob when it comes to android platform. I came from Nokia 6600, 5230 n now on Defy.
i have several problem with defy
I want to connect internet to my pc through defy but it can't. I also tried enable n disable internet tethering but it not working.
Also i got my defy preloaded with 2.2 froyo. i googled abot defy n i found some rooting, flashing, cm7,etc
I don't know much about rooting ,flashing,roms
But i want to know and i also want to best performance from my defy. My friend from fb suggested xda dev. Site tats im here to get help from u guys.

You will see this answer loads "read the forums"
I have lots of experence with android phones. And I found the defy very different to the others in the way you flash.
I use cm7 myself and its very good for daily use. There are a few YouTube videos you can watching showing the process.
so read and watch as much as you can wait a week if you still feel you wanna do it, read some more and go for it.

[Q] CM7 beginner questions

Hello I want to ask some thing about cm7 for defy. So can i Install it safely on my defy? I live in hungary so i think i have 2.2.2 central europe version, but not sure.
Can you use it for everyday? i saw only 720p recording not works, that means the original 5mp and vga rec is working? I had an x8 and i find it more difficult to install the cm7 for defy than the x8, there are couple of threads about bricked phones. I read that the nordic is recommended to the cm7 so the central eu version is not supported? Last question the cm7 will not kill my led? I also read a couple of threads about dead leds.

I have cm7 rc0, I haven't updated to the latest and greatest because I found that cm rc0 is really stable and I can use every day with no problems. Sure, I'm waiting for a couple of fixes, but it's really usable. On the dev thread I saw one guy who said that he bricked his phone, but it isn't clear that he couldn't have fixed it. Nordic is used as a starting point only. I do recommend cm7 over stock, it's faster, more responsive, and I didn't particularly cared about motoblur.

Its working fine. ive RC1 I love it except of that u cant link contacts like someones number to his/her facebook account. I dont know why is it like that.... it was really good in stock 2.2.2 and 2.1 also....

i live in hungary too, and i had cm7 installed on both nordic (177) and cee (179) kernels withouth any problems. i've been using it for almost two months now, and it hardly has any bugs, final version is very close now there is a way to make 720p recording work (only on red lensed defys), not familiar with it though, i have a green lensed one. otherwise the camera works and gets better with every release. and no, the cm7 will not kill your led. only chinese roms do that, because the chinese have me525 not mb525, which has a slightly different hardware.

even in cm7 led has more sietting to select diffrent color for miss call - maseage - and other notification ....

me too - i have the one from three versions back - the old (2nd?) market... green thing on the top.
never got the newer one, never got the one after and havent had this one - are they only rolling it out to newer devices (i.e. dual cores?)

I have had the beta version, lets hope this is a bit speedier!

Newer version lags in my Desire

the 2.3.6 version is still the fastest and usable
the feature of the new version are great, but still too slow, too much data downlaoded from the net, too much cpu used..hope they will optime it soon with a new version

Really laggy for me too. Its like it hangs when trying to update or see installed apps.

Running smooth for me am using MIUI RoM Android 2.3.5

I'll wait for it in the new iteration of Oxygen. Last time I installed 3.0.27 from the .apk half of apps on the market were on Italian. Don't know why. But if I turn a blind eye on that, I'm not overly happy with the new market. It is so cluttered compared to 2.3.6.

i think that was google issue - as my old market 2.3.6 had that same issue - various languages including spanish and possibly arabic or something

u will notice that u can not allow the ES File manager for the "root permission"
Solution: By re-installing it the problem will be solved... (Attached with this post)
For sms problem : Use alternative sms app Go SMS Pro (free)

Home screen doesn't work properly.
There are no shortcuts on them. They are empty.
A long press on screen, pops-up HTC Message Widget, but I can't drop it properly and after drop it in trash bin, it comes back.
So I deleted ROM.

ok... let me check for me all things are working... as i said.. this is the rom based on small leizie rom ... there is minimum of the gadgets in that rom..
then also u guys want the other features i will take look over them...

But, I've noticed a bug.
I've re-installed my backup of People App. Everything's fine.
But with Go SMS pro or Hancent, I only see phone numbers of my contacts, not name or picture.
Why ?

ya, you are right.. there is problem in sms app (mms.apk) i have found this before ur post.. so what i did.. i removed it for testing...
Now, lets talk about Go SMS pro, actually I have not used this application until now, but I have found that if u want to use the contact images may be this steps could help u..
To get Contact images.. I have done this setting..( Self tested with other phone to make sure.. )
Go SMS Pro > Settings > Appearance Settings > Conv. List Customization >....
Display Contact Pictures? > Yes.

by this U can have the display images what u have set in your contacts...
may be all this can help you, I can be wrong.. because i have not used this "Go SMS Pro" hehe.. for that sorry... if this sol. not work...

It need to be S-Off state... it is pre rooted... ok..
so it wont work on s-on rom.

Sorry guys, which is the defect of this rom regarding phone number/name/picture?
I am struggling very much with low internal memory, and looking for a better ROM..

Nice rom neo, I've found a couple of bugs using the rom today, most importantly the search widget is missing and the search 'hard' button doesnt work..just vibrates, and vibrates like crazy if you hold it down (which may be of some use to my GF but not so much for me!)
Also with the transparent status bar, its a bit crude when using browser for example, now this is just my preference, where can i find the modded statusbar.png (or whatever its called) I pulled the framework-res.apk but couldnt see the modded version in the drawable-mdpi folder...

Tried your rom, except of the chinese signs within locksreen after boot, the not present german support (at languages it's there, but it's not changing regardless which german i chose) and the not working search button everything works well.

how u do with facebook app, u use it ?

I think not so much people are using gingerbread anymore. I don't use. Because some applications I want are not compatible with gb or don't give effective usage in gingerbread. So many people keen on using other custom roms.

Hello...i have GB bu t don't use Facebook oficial app because it lags your phone awfully...! Maybe you can try FBM ou Friendcaster...or other of that kind!

I still use it cuz I don't know how to root it. Hope I'll learnt it by this summer.

I suppose you got a Galaxy W too, just like most others in the "Galaxy W" forum.
If you feel bored oneday, Someone (e.g. me) can help you getting your phone rooted. As for our phone its a aproved and quite safe procedure( i know it's necessary to keep in mind something can go wrong by different reasons), it's not necessarry to collect informations for the next three months. If you know what your phone and what your computer is you'll just need an usb cable and a working internet connection. In the case all you heard about "rooting" is the word itself you know your phone type and are REALLY WILLED TO READ, you will get it work in less than two hours for the Samsung i8150

Yes, I used CM7 and Manisalee45! ROM also. the last is the best GB rom IMO. Now I'm on Cm9.

i don't, cm 10.1 is a great stuff
