Can this be added soon for rooting roms etc? Phone will be out before end of Sept
I forgot to add "REQUEST" to this when it comes out?
2nd the request, anyone working on root for this? Does anyone know if the Prevail root works?
Im sure this will be rooted soon if its like the Fascinate or is it the other Samsung? I forgot which one.
Would it be safe to use the prevail root? I got the Prevail case for it and it fits perfectly, leading me to think it's pretty much the same phone...
In any case any updates on this, there are a couple of apps I need root for.
precedent performance
I am curios as to data perormance of this phone. I asssume it would be on verizon network as straighttalk to this point has been att or verizon.
It will be working off Sprint network
I looked up the specs on phone.....supposedly CDMA2000 1xRTT so a blazin double dial up speed!!! Wow!! I woulda thought they would have done this better but i imagine its that way for a reason.
Rooting
I would love to get this phone rooted. I did some digging on other forums and saw where one person "claimed" that the prevail root worked. I tried that root at least a dozen times to no avail. I'm thinking that maybe it has a NAND lock?

I have tried the prevail root and also did it by hand several times. I have used UNIX based OSes for years. The prevail root does NOT work. There is some kind of lock. I hope someone finds a rooting solution. I really like this phone and would love to be able to root it out.
Anybody know if a root is available for this yet?
im curious too. mine will arrive today and cant wait to hack it out. lol.\
Dodge Uconnect Compatability
Has anyone tried this, or has a way to try this with the Dodge Uconnect? They rarely update the list of compatable phones.
My wife has the Dodge Uconnect in her car and likes the Straight Talk plans. She has an E71 by Nokia and hates it, but it is compatabile with her car Uconnect system. Has anyone tried this phone wtih the Dodge Uconnect? I hate to buy the phone, pay $200 after the phone and one month plan just to find out it is not compatable.
Any information anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Samsung Galaxy Precedent Root - Fully Working!!!
Hey guys,
I've been following your threads on rooting the Precedent for a couple weeks now. Finally found the right one & process! Just rooted mine five mins ago and..... freaking awesome! Ran "Root Check" from the market - Fully verified root even under advanced check!
Just wanted to help you all out. Thanks nickcherski for the post and to all who contributed to this! XDA Rocks!!!
Quick note on step 7 & 8: You'll want to have the batch file already open, waiting for you to hit "any key" before you see the model number show up.

I totally agree this phone needs to be added to the list. There is root, Clockwork mod, and roms already out there. We need to get this a little more organized so this phone can get some development!
---------- Post added at 12:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 AM ----------
also Straight Talk should be added as a cell phone provider
I posted some information to the wiki page. Please feel free to edit the wiki. Its a total work in progress for me. But from what im understanding to get full support on this site there needs to be a wiki

Hi Everyone,
What is up... Seems like in 10 years ago I got my droid X... then a bit after I went apple. Last weekend I traded in and got a note 4. Love so far, it got me addicted. Now the problems arise with open source type equipment. I have a BT Keyboard, which works great, however I must be able to map virtual controls (on screen d pads and such) to the keyboard. Many apps will do this but they ALL require ROOT access.
I have tried different PC's, cables, Odin 3.4 to 3.10 and two different CF AUTO root packages. Each Time I get a failure, and the phone reads some error about ": recovery". Z4 root used to be the jam, what is making this so hard? I can donate to anyone that teaches me or informs me how to root this phone so I can play in peace. First person to get me up and running wins.
I just completed a factory reset, tested again and no go. Odin starts to write and then Fails. Yes I have USB Debugging on. I have followed all the steps. Is Samsung winning? Please any information helps. I have 7 days left or I have to return to iLand, where there is no hope.. but it is peaceful bc you even care to try. lol. Thanks

Do you have the developer edition. My educated guess is NO if you were able to trade in your iPhone and get the Note in store. There is NO root for either the Att or Verizon variant phones. Only the developer edition for Verizon has the necessary unlocked bootloader. There's a couple people working on root but there's no eta or even a guarantee in the slightest. It's ALL over these forums.
So what you are saying is leave vzw and get a note 4 elsewhere... I guess I can do that. Seems silly but understandable.
So go to t-mobile and get the note 4? I can then use the SM-N910T from CA autoroot? Please let me know if this would work. I'd hate to port over and be in the same boat. Thank you for confirming the vzw version is a lesser phone though.

Verizon and AT&T lock their devices down whereas T-Mobile doesn't. With T-Mo you can unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and root. So, if you were to leave Verizon and port to T-Mo you could easily root your Note 4 and install the apps needed to achieve what you want/need. (T-Mobile also has that promo where they'll pay up $350 (I think it's $350) towards your early termination fee if you switch)

ugh, really? This (and other similar sites) have been brought up before. Unless a Dev releases it on HERE or mentions about where he will release it on HERE, IGNORE THEM.
Give it a shot and report back.
Gonna run the .exe in a virtual machine to see what happens.

it seems like they cracked S7 already. Wonderful. *pun intended*
Yeah, I stumbled upon bogus sites like those back when I was trying to see if anybody ever rooted an Asus Fonepad 8. You know if someone rooted a relatively obscure device like that, there would also be a thread about it here.
For all of those that "stumble" upon this "root" method......don't post a question on if it works, just try it and see if it works......simply put, the Top Devs that have achieved root and unlocking bootloaders on various devices have not come up with a stable method as of yet, one of them does this type of work for a living, why would you think some third party site is able to crank out a root method on a device that just became available to the public and claims to have root for devices that do not exist yet??????????
Clearly, it will fail and will ask you to pay a fee for professional technical remote support. Then it will tell you they can not help and there is no refund.
Remember this, Root is NOT for everyone.

Root exploit was found by devs but it is dangerous. They are currently looking for other methods. Fortunately since those devs *can* root, they can dive deeper into the paritions and system to look for it. Easier to find a key inside a house then standing outside the gate.
Fortunately the LG phones are pretty solid and I personally need to change nothing. Outside of Xposed for Statusbar tweaks and themes, it is fine.
Full root..... Whatever. I want unlocked boot.
No, this is a scam/garbage...don't do it, won't work.

I agree. First LG phone for me. Previous devices were Samsung dating back to S2 all the way through S5. Felt that the removable battery and SD were too important to me to go with S6. Thus far, I'm much more impressed with the LG UI than Touchwiz. It's good without root. Could be great with it. Only two things I would use root for on this device. All of the ads are driving me nuts (short drive) and I really want to regain unlimited tethering. Fortunately, have T-Mobile so at least have 5 gb of tethering.

Is there thread that suggests what to do first with a new stock Note 4?
Root first?
Popular ROM?
Thanks
If you have the Verizon Note 4 you are stuck with stock as the boot loader is locked and no root exploit has been developed.

There's a thread called 'Desktop Setup' a little further down the main screen of the forum. I only took a brief glance, but it looks like it's other Note 4 owners showing how they have their phones setup. I just mainly setup mine to reflect how I had my S4 set. Unfortunately, though, the last post before mine is correct in saying root hasn't been achieved for this device yet. However, if you're looking to be able to use your phone as a mobile hotspot, you can purchase the full version of FoxFi for $7.95, or try the free version to see how you like it. The free one limits you to 5 megs per use, I think, before it disconnects you. I'm using the full version of the app to tether to my desktop right now, and it works pretty well. You can't turn it on with one tap like you can a rooted phone's hotspot, but you can turn off that way once you're done. The app lets me provide Wi-Fi for my XBox One, Tab 3 8.0, and Fire TV, too. Even though I can't root my phone yet, I still enjoy using it. Hope this helps, and sorry I rambled on a bit.

Haven't tried it yet, but I'm itching to give it a shot. I already downloaded the root file, but probably won't touch it til after this weekend, and the fact I got my phone set up the way I like it. I know this isn't the right thread, but before I make the decision to try this can anyone confirm that FoxFi works on 5.0.1? I'm currently on 4.4.4 and don't want to jump forward if it doesn't, since I need the hotspot. I know I can roll back to KitKat, but I'd lose all my stuff

Cool. The build in the post pointing to a possible root is showing 'Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V VZWVerizon wireless N910VVRU2BOF1 5.0.1', which has me somewhat hopeful, with a side of skepticism. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this thread for any updates, hopefully good ones.
The file for root at the bottom says "Galaxy Note 4 (Verizon USA) SM-N910V" but has smn910f (SM-N910F (Europe)) in the file name for the zip.
Please tell me you guys are not serious???? Look at the date this crap was posted 7th July. Do you honestly think no one has tried it yet and come on the forums to scream about it. Very dodgy looking site also.
Take it easy, no point in getting worked up about it. We're all just looking for ANY glimmer of a lead for root.

And how is a 5 month old post a glimmer of hope. Most People on this forum have had their note 4s for a long long time and have been following and hoping for the one post that will spring up "That root has been achieved" it doesn't help with you posting the same thing in 3 different threads about some rubbish that has been posted 5 months ago from a website that looks like it was thrown together the same day they posted the root instructions. If anything comes up it will be posted on XDA almost immediately I can guarantee it.
I'm sorry if I sound harsh but everyone on here has been waiting a long time I see your only new to this and also had a chance to return.
The problem is No one appears to be working on anything, you only have to look at the thread "Lets talk root" I don't see any one talking about how root may be obtained and I include myself in that. What needs to happen is for this Note 4 community to start posting ideas in that thread or start a bloody new one. I am willing to use my phone as a guiney pig but come on people lets start talking about how we may obtain root and start experimenting. I will flash anything any one wants to my phone so lets take it over to the "Lets talk Root" forum.
Rant Over
Believe me, I understand your frustration as I've rooted every Android device I've had, till now of course. If we get, we get it. If not, oh well. I have more important things to concern myself with than whether I can root my phone or not. I'm sure the person who originally posted the link was only trying to help and not cause any tension. I wish I could root this thing, but get grip, it's still just a phone.
Is it even possible to unlock the bootloader and root the Verizon version of this phone. I have heard too many different answers to this question. Can someone with some solid knowledge inform me on this? Thanks guys here at XDA, you rock!
Not possible. See number two on the list:
https://motorola-global-portal.cust...PWTNEbmNlQnNuTXNVWU51dGMlN0VJWDZUSXclMjElMjE=
The only reason the Verizon version is worth it, is because it is free. Well it was when I got it. Still a good phone. Why do you need root?

ive always rooted my phones and i just came from nexus 6 so i miss rooting a bit. but in the end i dont really need it anymore since i got the new unlimitd plan and can tether. thats the only thing i was really needing. its cool to try out roms here and there but ive done it so much in the past im burnt out on setting the phone up over and over
Android permissions helps quite a bit now. The only thing I missed from root was ad blocking and internet blocking. That seems pretty well solved with somthing like NetGuard https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.faircode.netguard and configuring www.alternate-dns.com servers or getting the github version and using a hosts file.
In theory what if we where to flash a global rom to a usa variant s9 then proceed to unlocking the bootloader and oem unlock ???
Seems that would have been tried long before now.

USA market S9s are not rootable. The G960U models are screwed. Not that it bugs me because root messes up SPay, and id gladly give up root for that if i was forced to choose. Which I am LoL
EDIT: USA S9's are now rootable. Please refer to the guides
I'm sure people thought the same about s8, it was far from the conventional root method but if we never get root on s9 it's all good but I'll never buy another $700 Samsung if I can't own it. That's what root is about for me. They shouldn't be able to tell me what I can and can't do with my $700 phone and just thinkin about it really makes me wanna throw it in the trash, I'm tired of being a Google slave and I can't remove gapps and replace services without root I'd trade this piece of junk for a s8+ in a heart beat

those items you mentioned arent as bad as they used to be. The kernels are pretty efficient nowadays and with the advent of the U1 Odin flashable files, there isnt much need to uninstall too many things. Dont get me wrong, i really miss being able to flash whatever i wanted (i started my root journey on the OG Evo, then went to the S3, S5, A8 and now S9) and yes, it does make a difference for each individual phone as they all are somehow a tad different. I wish we could root. I really wish we could root and maintain SPay and SHealth. But even if root is accomplished, but it breaks SPay, ill not root. SPay is that important to me

You're probably right. Haven't flashed anything on a Android phone since LG G4. Been using an iPhone X as my daily driver since that time and just received this S9 when renewing my contract. I've had the LG G7 One for a couple of months and the S10 after that for a few days. Both have been sold since I find them really expensive to risk bricking. You could say my flashing days are waning and just want to stick to secure environment which is why I'm using an iphone where there is no temptation to modify anything. This S9 is still kind of new and just my backup phone so I can still afford to tinker with it but as I found out, it's not even possible to unlock the bootloader so I guess it'll go back in the drawer for now or sell it.

yeah, the bootloader is probably a lost cause for the immediate future. i got my S9 a few months ago for $275 from Cricket and flashed the U1 firmware shortly after getting it. We went to Cancun for a week, so i left it alone before the trip, but as soon as we got home, i flashed it LoL
anyways, i wouldnt blame you for selling it if its just your backup phone especially since there is no real tinkering beyond the goodlock app from samsung themselves, which is pretty limited
To Be honest, theres is no sense in rooting this phone anyway! To what tinker with a few dumb options lol.... Them childish days are gone. Thought it would be neat till I really thought of the constant headaches and bull$hit wasted time! NM
You can might as well get an iPhone if you want to allow someone else to own it for you. I like the freedom it's not childish to not want to charge your phone constantly or to want to remove factory Spyware I don't understand why you would think any of this is childish but ok
