First off im sorry if this has been asked before, but i had a hard time finding any information relating to my problem.
Basically i tried updating the recovery image to the latest CWM, but after flashing i cant enter recovery anymore. The phone seems to work fine otherwise, but when i try to boot to recovery, the HTC logo just stays on the screen indefinitely. Removing power and battery and reinserting allows the phone to boot regularly.
Ive tried reflashing both manually and using ROM Manager, but to no avail.
Is there any help to be found anywhere?
Thank you for any help you can give.

Holy hell man you are the best! Thank you so much!
I tried that one before, but not with "erase recovery" and "erase cache". That did the trick!
Haha if i could hug you i would
EDIT: oh also, this time i did the whole process without the SD card inserted, if that makes any difference.

hello, im in need of some help
i had/have cwm recovery (touch) on my one x, after flashing TripNdroids AOKP rom and can no longer boot to recovery.
i can boot to bootloader, but when i select 'recovery' it begins to load (for a split second) then the htc splash appears and boot into the rom.
i have cwm rom manager on the phone, and have the same outcome when i try 'boot to recovery' from there, and when i try a 'restore' i get the same outcome.
to make matters worse, i have no gapps as i needed to flash them after rom install.
im not to worried at this point, i think its fixable, i just dont have the knowledge, hopefully i will by the time its sorted.

Can't you try to reflash recovery if you have problems with it?...

go to fastboot and try this:
"fastboot erase cache"

Wiping cache doesn't make sense to me, we are trying to boot in the recovery remember? Could you two elaborate?

There's some terrible advice being thrown around here. Relock the bootloader? Flash a RUU?! Seriously?
Yes, he just needs to erase the cache from fastboot. Yes it's a known issue which has been covered in Trip's thread about a hundred times. Yes he probably should have searched and would have found the answer. No, he doesn't need to reflash his recovery or return to stock or any other ridiculous suggestion.
Honestly, stop and think before you post, and if you're not sure of what you're saying don't say anything. Better no advice than the wrong advice.
Come on. I've been using it. just go to fastboot and in then "fastboot erase cache" then reboot the bootloader and open recovery! You have to do it every time u need to open recovery.
the first answer is the correct answer

I had the exact same issue after installing tripndroids CM9. I freaked out as flashing the recovery again did not solve the issue for me. after about half an hour of trying everything, I tried erasing cache from fastboot and it worked for me.

All he needs to do to get into recovery is wipe his cache, I hardly think advising him to wipe everything and reinstall the stock operating system is appropriate (or 'correct'). Especially as he'd then need to reinstall his cm9 ROM, and would then still need to wipe his cache to be able to get into recovery.
The thread you linked to is a guide on how to recover a phone which won't boot, which is an entirely different scenario.
It's equivalent to telling a PC user that they need to format their hard drive and reinstall Windows because they've deleted their browser. Yes it will work, in that they'll have their browser back, but it's completely the wrong advice for that particular situation. Which is why I said think before you post, to be sure the advice you're offering is the best advice for the question being asked.
Solving this problem with a RUU is like killing a fly by firing a nuke at it. Although a nuke is fun fun time, while a RUU ain't
It ain't right the recovery reboots over an unknown-state cache though.

Okay so I am trying to install the jdroid rom, btw first time ever doing this so bare with me, anyways I can't boot my phone stays at HTC quietly brilliant screen with some writing underneath it red. I can get into the bootloader menu, where I am rooted and says my bootloader is unlocked. I can also get into clockwork mod however I messed up when transferring the rom onto my phone. I unzipped it and put it there instead of leaving it in the zip file. I can't mount to my laptop through clockwork mod, is there any other way? Again I can't boot my phone. Thanks
EDIT: Now whenever my phone boots, it boots into the clockworkmod and keeps rebooting I can't do anything, cant mount my phone at all

What you need to do when flashing:
a) CWM recovery
fastboot flash recovery xxxrecovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
b) Flashing a ROM
extract the boot.img from the ROM.zip
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
enter recovery
install the ROM.zip
reboot

as long as you can get the correct RUU and flash the correct stock recovery, RUU will defo work, then you can start again from scratch. I've done this myself

Alright I got out of it using the st&t ruu, though I live in Canada and on Rogers. Data doesnt work but that is not surprise. Gotta wait for a root access and/or bootloader unlock for 1.85. will be patient.
I flashed the boot.img file from the essential files from slim rom . But directly after i did that it rebooted into bootloader. My recovery is not working and S-ON is showing . I know its not bricked but please can someone get me out of this situation. my CWM is not working as whenever i click it, it reboots again and again into the HTC home screen . PLEASE HELP !!! . Easiest solution would be to flash RUU

Why don't you first try to flash a recovery? It looks like your recovery went haywire. In bootloader, go to fastboot, issue the following from your PC's cmd prompt:
fastboot flash recovery <full path to your recovery file>.img
CWM released a new recovery today 5.8.4.0. I flashed it and it works.
EDIT. You can find all the required adb and fastboot files in this tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24967468&postcount=1
The CWM recovery file included is older but it works.

There is another recovery option available in the Development thread: TeamWin Recovery
Try using that. I read somewhere that people having problems with CWM flashed TeamWin and were successful.
EDIT: Before flashing either CWM or twrp, maybe you should try erasing your recovery partition and cache partition with
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
and then flash the recovey image.
EDIT 2: Another option would be to flash the stock recovery. I don't know what your regioncode/CID is. Find the appropriate stock recovery and flash that.

Kackered my phone and need some help if possible !
I have unlocked my one x using the HTC site then installed install-insecure-windows.bat as in this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577671 in order to flash clockwork mod.
I unfortunately misunderstood the instructions and did not copy the clockwork mod img file or any other files on to the phone, i entered recovery mode and the phone got stuck on the black download screen. I hard rebooted my device and it is stuck in a reboot loop where it boots into the os then immediately reboots again.
I can enter bootloader mode but if i try to erase cache or flash from there it says -
C:\one>fastboot erase cashe
erasing 'cashe'... FAILED (remote: (00000008))
finished. total time: 0.000s
I have checked it sees the device and that seems ok -
C:\one>fastboot devices
HT257W103326 fastboot
Anyone offer any help ??

Sorry about that, could the mods move it or am i better staring a new thread ?
I have managed to flash clockwork mod in fastboot, does the battery have to be a certain lever before it will flash ? It just seemed to work on its own after an hour or so.
So now I need to get a rom onto the phone storage in order to flash, is this possible if i cannot get onto the phone os itself ?
Sorry for the noob questions, I have flashed a few android devices before but usually have removable storage, forgot the one x didn't !

in CWM go to mounts and storage then click mount USB.
in older versions of CWM this didn't work so you had to push the file to the sdcard with ADB, i'll post them just in case.
i would recommend updating rather then using this method:
first boot into the boot loader and go to fast boot then use
fastboot boot recovery.img
from there you can use ADB to push any file to the sdcard with
ADB push file.name /sdcard
I am so stuck with this problem and have been searching forums for answers for days...Also, I am new at this. After much trial and effort I managed to
1. unlock my htc one x bootloader
2. install CWM recovery
3. install cyanogen mod
AND, it worked....however there were none of the google apps (gapps). So I downloaded them on the phone, went into CWM recovery and installed them from there. My phone restarted, then turned off. It now won't reboot.
It loads only as far as the HTC quietly brilliant logo. I can access bootloader through the power/vol.down keys. Then when I select 'recovery', it simply goes back to the "splash screen" described earlier.
I figured I would just try to reflash CWM and start over, but every time I flash CWM (and I have tried hundreds of times), the command lines say it has been done, but the phone just boots back to the splash screen again, and hangs there.
How do I get my phone back working again?
Many thanks in advance, and your patience is appreciated

Your recovery is fine just go back to bootloader and type in fastboot erase cache and then boot back to recovery.
Yep fastboot erase cache should do the trick indeed. Then start over with a full wipe !
Install CM rom, install gapps and then reboot. It doesn't work with a reboot in between !

just a thought gents, my bootloader indicates that my battery is low. i have been using this command script i found to charge it a little, but it doesn't seem to charge it much...could the low battery be the cause or at least contributing to my problem?

Hi Treebill. I am using recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
This worked the first time, just doesn't seem to be working now. I have also given philzrecovery a go, to no avail.
Tried it all again this morning;
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.4.0-endeavoru.img
(and just for good measure),
fastboot erase cache...THEN
reboot bootloader...THEN
phone just goes to htc splash screen and hangs...also i try manually entering recovery through the vol.down/power buttons, with the same result
Also, i am not even trying to flash gapps right now, just get the phone back working. However i was pretty certain I was using the right version when i originally did flash gapps...
What if you reboot to recovery via command ?
Fastboot reboot recovery
Make sure you delete all recovery image files in the fastboot folder, download and copy a brand new one to the fastboot folder and rename the file to recovery.img
Then flash it

What if you reboot to recovery via command ?
Fastboot reboot recovery
Make sure you delete all recovery image files in the fastboot folder, download and copy a brand new one to the fastboot folder and rename the file to recovery.img
Then flash it
