yes, correct. it's basically like skype or any other VoIP app. only thing that's special is that it doesn't require you to create an account and identifies you by your telephone number. that way you find people who use Viber and are in your contacts automatically and they are added to your contact list in the app.
Pretty nice I would say and call quality is also good.
I guess, ive been using dell voice, its 100% free, includeds a free phone number and you can call any major city in canada to any phone number for free..
Can you use this to make free long distance calls in canada and the states? I've been trying to find something to do this since I don't have any long distance minutes with my plan but have a ton of data. I'm pretty sure that's what google voice does but it's only for the US.
EDIT: Nevermind. I just tried using the keypad to dial out a number and it doesn't work. What is your experience with Dell Voice?
Right now it's only canada..

Thank you,

Incosistent
This service has inconsistent results.
At times it sounds fantastic, but in my experience, the results are wholly inconsistent and sometimes downright awful.
It has potential, but in my experience, not close to being ready for prime time.
I am using it on Verizon 4g with all bars and on wifi btw.
That's how I feel with all these VOIP programs. I've used Viber and it was crap, even connecting over Wifi. This also includes Line (made by Naver), Sipdroid, etc...
It's important to remember that voice quality depends on the connection strength on both sides of the conversation.
Sometimes your wireless reception could be low, and this is something we cannot control. Naturally this affects Viber's call quality and results in disruptions and broken sound.
We are continuously trying to improve our handling of broken/overloaded networks, so you can expect better performance as newer versions of Viber are released.
Please note that having full signal still doesn't mean your internet's bandwidth is at the maximum expected. When you see a "full reception bar", it merely means that physically, your phone is covered with the cellular signal.
When it comes to the bandwidth itself, your connection could still be slow due to various different reasons, such as being in an area with many other users from the same provider, thus congesting the network.
Viber Team, me and my wife are using your service while I am abroad so that we can keep in touch as much as needed. It is working great, and we aren't having major issues with the system. The quality of service is as expected when using VOiP-ish products.
I am having a minor issue with the notification I get for text messages though. The notification doesn't clear itself even when I open and read the text. It stays even if I hit the notification itself. The only way to remove the notification is to clear the entire notification list every time. This is happening for me on Android 4.0.3. Is this intentional, will it be fixed/looked into, or am I just stuck living with the extra step to remove the notification?

Hi,
This is a known issue to us, and we're working right now to find its source and hopefully fix it soon. In other words, it's certainly not intentional. We are not sure in what version exactly this fix will be added - could be either in the upcoming 2.1.6, or 2.1.7 after that.
Viber "attached location" in Messaging is fairly inaccurate while Google Map app is clearly showing that the phone is able to find an accurate location in an indoor environment. Viber like over 1KM off. Google Map is like 40m radius. I don't see any point of attaching a location with over 1KM off. The purpose of the "attach location" is to tell friends where you are. I believe GMap utilize the feature that uses CellID and Wifi ID thru the API.
The Location aware feature uses your GSM's (cellphone service provider) location signal, and its exact accuracy depends on your network provider. Viber does not use your GPS settings. You may leave your GPS on or you may turn it off. This will not affect the Location aware feature.
There may be a slight margin of error, depending which tower captures your location. Viber has no control of this. The information received by the tower is then displayed back to your device within Google maps. If reception is good and you are in a high-coverage area, the margin of error may be 1 to 100 meters +/-. Within large populated areas, with stable state-of-the-art GSM capabilities, the location awareness will have a greater accuracy.
I have tried to install this on my Gnex. Every time I enter my phone number it never ever texts me. I tried to pick up the call from the website, it's long distance. I can't answer that. My voicemail didn't catch the number that was spoken. Please help me
Please try removing Viber, wait 24 hours, reinstall and try again (make sure you try both the SMS and the automated call options). If this doesn't help, contact our support team at http://support.viber.com and give them the details of the problem.
Every day, I get a dialogue box telling me that I need to activate Viber to continue use. I have done it every day so far, but it keeps coming back. I have never had that problem in Android 2.3.x before. What gives?
everytime I try to add viber to my accounts & sync list, the list freezes and I have to click back twice or the home button to get out and when I return to the list nothing happens and no matter how many times I try to add viber to my accounts & sync list the same issue happens again :S
@TorbenKB -
What do you mean? Viber gets deactivated on a daily basis and you're forced to go through the registration process again?
Are you using a Custom ROM? If so, could you please check what IMEI number is displayed on your "About" page, inside Android's settings?

I have to enter my phonenumber and the SMS code, actually just did it again.
I'm on a Custom ROM (Manhattan IC120) and the IMEI shown in Settings is exactly the same as my phone IMEI. If you want the IMEI, I can PM it?
Hello guys,
recently bought the htc one x, my first android phone and absolutely loving it!
Loved the way different apps could work together and how my contacts were merged together with their facebook accounts an skype status.
My question is, I know I can call the contact via skype (but this is to their cell phone number, which you have to pay skypecredits for) but i would like to have the possibility to start a voice chat when they are online, I have been looking a while but i think this functionality is just not available right now.
Is there a way to make this work?
Kind regards

I would imagine that you want to make sure that Skype syncs your contacts and then merge them with your existing contacts using the linking tool. After that, it should recognize them by skype name, rather than default to their cell number.
My dad's SGS2 for Sprint recently went 4.0.4 OTA and though I was excited for him, he's not happy about the default call log only showing recent call activity by date and not by caller as he claims it used to be. For instance, he runs a business and for him it's important to be able to click on a contact and have all call log data available in one spot for that contact as opposed to scrolling through the entire history of all callers to find when he may have missed a call from someone. Does anyone know of an app or ROM that could help? This apparently can be done for people who are registered contacts, but he wants it done for when someone's not a contact.
Still Possible / Horribly Inconvenient
This is the nicest free replacement dialer IMO, a MiUI style dialer with the same functionality your father is looking for.

I just switched carrier and the new number they gave me clearly used to belong to a delinquent account because the first week I got deb collectors calls from numerous places. Most places I told them I wasnt the person they were looking for and they left me alone. BUT one collector calls everyday at 10am and sometimes at 2AM!!! and they ignore my request to be removed. I added them to call rejection list in the stock phone app but they still leave voicemails.
Is there any way on the note or 3rd party to completely block them or do I have to go back and get a new number?
TL;DR The call rejection list in the stock phone app still lets people leave voicemails and I want to stop that.
Tell them if they don't stop calling you will file a harassment complaint. That should shut them right up.

i tried that but, im guessing a debt collector shady enough to call people at 2 in the morning does not care about its reputation.
Use Google Voice for your voicemail and enable the anti-spam, will probably stop most if not all from being in your voicemail (will be in your spam folder instead).
Or, get the program Call Control ($7.99 to buy) and enable both the Community Blacklist, and the Pickup and Hangup Blocked Calls option.
Sure there are other programs like that, thats the one I use to stop SPAM calls.
Hello - I've been to Sprint and they referred me to their "pro" tech support phones and I was then told a ticket would be submitted and sent up the chain. No one can help me with my missing voice mail notifications. I'm stumped and seems others are as well. I wasn't even seeing the missed calls icon, but now I do. I Realized since I had bought my phone (Cyber Monday - then it took two weeks to receive), I hadn't set up my voice mail message. But then i thought, hold on, it's the same carrier and phone number.......but I just did that yesterday. I manually called my VM, and there were many missing since early Feb.
Spring had me click on several things and sent some kind of update to my phone, but I still don't see any kind of notification icon indicating a voice message waiting for me.
I do not and have never used visual VM.
Can anyone shed some light on this or where can I go to get this rectified? is there a Google phone tech # to call?
Thank you,
Kristy
