[Q] Desire custom recovery problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a Desire with stock Froyo which i rooted using Unrevoked 3.32 with the default recovery. Now I read online that there is a newer Desire, which doesn't get rooted properly, and I think I have one of them. In hboot my phone says PVT4 SHIP S-ON. I read that it's better to have the Amon Ra recovery flashed, so I downloaded it and tried to put it on the phone using Unrevoked again. But it crashed asking me to force close the Zyploit process. I tried using Unrevoked with the default recovery, but it did the same thing. Does anyone have an idea how to root the phone properly and get the Amon Ra recovery on it, so that I can change my rom?
Thank you in advance, and I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place. I'm a noob..

If your still not rooted, then you could use an older version of unrevoked, think 2.21 works the best but most people will just tell you to use revolutionary. Using revolutionary will make it a lot easier and should work flawlessly.

[Q] unrevoked3 not working on my Desire

I tried running unrevoked3 on my unbranded HTC Desire. It currently has HBOOT 0.80 and its a PVT1 model. I had previously rooted it with a guide before unrevoked was out, and used a flashable zip of clockworkmod to install ROMS. it currently has an MCR one.
I wanted to install Oxygen, And followed that thread's suggestion and wanted to install AmonRA's recovery. That led to trying unrevoked.
Now, when using unrevoked, i get to the part where it says 'waiting for root.. safe to restart if this does not work' - I have to remove the battery and start over there, does not restart on its own. After that, i get the 'internal error cannot find misc' error and nothing special happens, i go back to my normal ROM, and the recovery is the stock android one.
Any ideas?
From what I can see, I think you are trying to root over your current root?
I think your best bet will be to unroot with a stock RUU then reroot with unrevoked.
Yup, Restoring to the latest RUU and running unrevoked3 again worked. Thanks!
Glad I could help

Use Unrevoked to add Clockwork when already rooted?

My Desire is already rooted (using the old stage 1, stage 2 method) and I use Rom Manager to boot into Clockwork recovery.
A recent scare has made me want to permanently put Clockwork on my phone so I can access it from the boot menu.
Can I use Unrevoked to do this even though I am already rooted? It seems easier than using ADB.
Cheers.
Just connect your phone and run Unrevoked. Nothing more is needed. Done this several times to change between clockwork and amonra, works fine.
dont you think this thread belongs to the Desire Q&A forum? or the Desire General at most?

I tried doing this yesterday because I wanted Amon-Ra as well, but I got a misc partition error while running unrevoked. Ended up installing alpharev and flashing a recovery img that way. Any idea why that may've happened?
klaas4, no idea. Did you try to run it again? Never had a problem at all with unrevoked.
misc partition error happened to me as well (rooted way back with r4 method), also just did s-off instead. May as well, just as quick and easy as unrevoked anyway, and fastboot is great

My guess is that you didn't use unrevoked on first root. I just tried on my unrevoked desire and I can flash other recoveries over it using unrevoked.

Just flash the clockwork img file in your adb recovery and that'll be permanent!

Strangely enough, I did use unrevoked the first time, and still I got that message. The first time I ever rooted my Desire though, was using Modaco's method. Maybe that changed some things on that misc partition, but I used an RUU and rerooted using unrevoked when it came out.
Strange, but true. Anyway, I'm now happy and rooted, and using AlphaRev's fastboot commands to flash and erase the device directly is very helpful. Thanks anyway!

[Q] Rooting my Desire hboot 0.93 - PVT4 - Erase Size 40000

So, here we go,
I am totally new to all this stuff, I got my Desire a few days ago. Actually before I was using an Iphone...So, a friend of mine told me I had to root my Device and sent me this noob proof guide from your forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
I started to do it step by step, but I did not read that little thing with the erase size data 40000. I rooted my Device with the unrevoked clockworkmod and did the errormessage "can't find misc".
I looked carefully in the thread and found the answer that I need to do the same thing with the Amon-RA recovery instead of clockwork and I did that. After a time
Unrevoked says "rooting..." and then "Is your firmware to new?"
What to do now? thanks for help

just tried around with different unrevoked and amon-ra versions, finally it worked with unrevoked 3.21 und amon-ra v2.0.0
Out of interest, could you check in hboot if you are s-off now.

It is still on "S-ON" why you asking?
hi, i meet same probleme at beginning.
i resolve that by using unrevoked v3.21
will install cwm 2.1.5.3, you would be able to flash your recovery with ra v2.0.1 once s-off alpharev.
use fastboot to do so
hope this help
edit you can used custom recovery in the menu file unrevoked to select amon_ra recovery 2.0.1
I've successfuly applied cwm 3.0.2.4 recovery with the latest unrevoked, though i was forced to apply 2.2 rom before patching))
sorry, i have no expireince with amon-ra.
No matter mate. It s Ur phone... Was to carry some help. If you sorted out that s the matter. Have fun

Danke! This solution really works even without S-OFF. We were looking hard at so many other solutions but this by far is the easiest and effective.
Actually no because unrevoked only works a 2nd time, sometimes.
The best way is to s-off and fastboot flash recovery.

Revolutionary on Desire

Has anyone S-OFFd with Revolutionary yet?
I just did my phone which worked fine, but it bombed out when i said 'yes' to download recovery image.
I did my phone and another with AlpharevX which I'm pretty sure was almost exactly the same thing, but with fewer supported handsets.
S-OFF'd day of released without any hiccups, I opted out of flashing CWM.
quick question as i don't want to start a new thread.
phone is now rooted and has cwm 3.0.0.5, does it need to be flashed back to stock in order to run revolutionary?
hboot is 093 which is required for the desire if i remember correctly

You just need stock rooted rom (no a2sd, d2ext)
Yeah I also just used revolutionary, works great and gave me no fuss.
Also s-off'edwith revolutionary, was done in less than a minute.
(it was so fast i had to check twice before i was certain it was s-off )
already had a recovery so i skipped that one.
What's the best thing to do if your device has an older HBOOT? I'm at 0.75 I think! Should I use AlphaRev, or upgrade to a more recent RUU to update the HBOOT?
Currently I'm S-OFF using Alpharev 1.8. What is the advantage of Revolutionary on the Desire? Support for the GB update?
you dont have to s-off again with revolutionary when you are already s-off.

Can't get S-OFF via Revolutionary

I'm currently S-ON with hboot 2.10.0001.
When I try to use Revolutionary to get s-off it tells me that I don't have the right Hboot version.
So I checked the wiki for the tool and it says I need 2.16.0001 or 2.15.0001.
I tried flashing 2.16.0001 in recovery and it appears to work but at the top of my bootloader it still says 2.10.0001?
I'm not sure what the issue is.
P.S. ive been running miui for a while and do have some root just not unlocked nand i guess.

have you tried unrevoked also you cant flash roms without being nand unlocked (s-off)
UPDATE: Never mind. Unrevoked forever got me S-OFF
I can certainly flash roms and access recovery. No problems there.
I definitely have root (titanium backup works and I can issue superuser commands in terminal)
Is it possible that the bootloader is wrong?
BTW I cant flash different recoveries, it goes through but when I check I still have the same recovery (Amon RA).
I used a very old method of rooting (prior to GB). Everything has been cool but I did revert to stock everything briefly about 7 months ago.
When I took my phone in cause of a burnt out battery.
Can I use unrevoked even though I'm already rooted?
Don't want to mess anything up since everything is working except small things like adaway (requires s-off and won't work unless i use ADB from recovery).
