I have a question. My G2 Screen turned off and won't turn back on. I've tried everything but nothing works. The phone still charges and turns on but the screen is black. My phone is rooted. If I send it back to T-Mobile for a replacement, will they find out its rooted?

Possibly.
I believe there's a way to go back to stock without using your screen (via ADB).
Are you sure its turning on at all? To the capacitive buttons/keyboard buttons light up?

Personally I had my first G2 malfunction on me after I had my phone perma-rooted. The SD reader no longer functioned properly so I couldn't access any data consistently which made it impossible to unroot it.
In the end I called tmobile and told them that my phone's sd card stop reading properly and they sent me a refurbished model with no additional charges to my account. I know for a fact that if put the phone on recovery mode you can definitely tell if the phone is rooted or not. If it's your last resort then I would chance it, but you're risking them sending you back another phone with a pretty hefty bill. (read somewhere if they find out that you're phone's been rooted, they're required to *keep* the phone)

Yes the phone turns on and the capacitive buttons and keyboard buttons light up. I can hear the sound if someone calls it rings. The only problem is the screen is black and won't turn on. If there is a way to unroot it via ABD that would be great. Do you know where I can find instructions on that?

Yeah that will be my last resort. But right now I'm trying to look everywhere for instructions on how to unroot it using ADB but no luck yet.
If anyone on the forum can point me in the right direction as to where I can find instructions on how to unroot using ADB will be great.
So I turned of the g2 and plug it in and webt into adb devices and it says the phone is in recovery. So if anyone knows a way to unroot this way from ADB would be helping me out a lot.
idk how to unroot via adb but have you tried putting a stock rom in the sdcard, go into hboot mode on the g2, even though you cant see anything on the screen just find a pic online of hboot mode, then move the volume button to recovery then select it, then you will be in recovery the select install zip and even thought u still can see anything you could do the same thing i told you to do for hboot mode, so then install the rom. tell if that worked. i have the same problem with my htc g2. if that doesnt work then its the lcd screen its self.

For some reason my screen has stopped working. I press the power button to wake it up and the only thing that comes on are the shortcut buttons. It happened all the sudden this afternoon, and I have charged it sincethento see if that may be the issue. I've taken out the battery 3 times and turned it back on too no avail. When it boots up it make the intro sound but nothing happens on the screen.
It's only 3 months old so it's still covered under the warranty, BUT it's rooted. I need to know is there ANYWAY to revert it back to the stock rom with out the screen so that I can take it back to Sprint. Any help would be great.
Well, they can't see the screen so let them take a look at it. If they fix the screen and see its rooted, no big deal, the phone works.
That is true, I never really thought of that. Let's say they can't fix it. Do you think they would check to see if it's rooted before they replace it, or would they even be able to?
Best bet is to run ruu before you take it in. If they fix it and see its rooted they can be butts and dbr it because of root. One of my Co techs has done it

What exactly is that and how exactly would I go about that without the use of the screen?

Ok... The screen does work but it's like the backlight is broken. In the right light and at an angle I can see the screen, and the touch screen works. I have it turned all the way up but nothing. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The good thing is will be able to revert back now to take it in.
I've seen a lot of these threads on random android forums, never with much resolution, which is frustrating.
My power button has stopped working entirely. I took it into the Sprint shop, they spent an hour with it, came back out and said they could find no reason it shouldn't be working. It's an obnoxious fix, but I downloaded "No Lock" from the marketplace and set the screen to shut off after 15 seconds. Now I press a volume key to turn on my screen...
Now, when it gets annoying is when I went to install Cyanogenmod 7 tonight. The power button obviously doesn't work. Widgetsoid's reboot button is ignored entirely if I do Shut Down, Reboot, Bootloader, or Recovery. It's A-OK with Hot Reboot. So the only way I've gotten into the bootloader to wipe/install CM7 is to pop out the battery, hold VolDown, and put the battery in. Peachy. But once I'm into the bootloader, now not only does power (which is now my "enter" button) now work, but the volume buttons are unresponsive as well. So no scrolling.
I'd love to call up HTC or Spring and see what I can do about a replacement (which might not even happen, I don't have a warranty), but I can't un-root the device to send it in.
Any insight you guys have would be greatly appreciated...
Is there an SDK or something that would allow me to remote control the phone using my computer via USB? I'm completely at a loss here.

I believe you are referring to adb?
and you can unroot via adb, just search around, I'm sure you'll find something on it.
btw, does Sprint know you rooted your phone? if they didn't find out, then you still have a warranty

Yeah, I'm just not as familiar with ADB as I'd like to be.
Not so much looking to unroot, as reload HTC Sense so they don't think to look haha. And yeah, when I brought the phone in today it was very obviously modded. They restarted it and the Cyanogenmod 6 flash screen came up. The guy looked a little confused. He was more than willing to help out, but I'm not so sure it would be the same if I sent it in. They definitely wouldn't replace it.
Alright, so I have ADB up and running with no issue. Got it to give me my device's serial #. At this point, how do I hijack the phone's bootloader and force it to wipe and install the ZIP of CM7 that's on the SD card?
My phones screen just stopped working and T mobile agreed to replace it but now i have to unroot it. I Rooted with Visionary and have S off, i found the guides to unroot but I cant see my screen for half the stuff i need.
Is there anything i can do?
Please help me.
Thanks in advace.
...deng that's not good. Since you can't see then I don't know. Maybe with sombody with adb knows as for me I don't know... you should not accept the replacement because if they find out ur rooted you will pay 300+ bucks

Ahhhh. Can someone please help me out? I remember when one of my older phones broke i found some program to pull up the screen on my comp. Is that possible with the G2?
That's adb. If you have adb you should be able to find the phone if you hold volume down + power. But from what I know you need usb debugging on

ADB is for like giving the phone commands. Im talking about a program that will bring up the phones actual screen on the computer and you can see everything.
Anybody else know what i could do?
Putting myself in this situation...I would pull the SD card, get it on the PC or whatever and copy PCIMG10.ZIP (or whatever it is - the stock OTA) to the root of the SD - put it back in the phone and start up in recovery (vol down + power). Then wait about 5 minutes (shouldn't be that long tho) until the phone has a chance to parse the PCIMG recovery file. After that I think the response is Volume Up to confirm the update?
The fact you rooted with visionary may be a deal breaker however with my Blind_Ota_revert_method(tm)
I guess, if at that point that bricked your phone, at least it will appear to any techs that you had/have OTA firmware on it...not sure though

Yeah I think I know what you are talking about, my old Vibrant had a TV Out feature to display the screen on any tv you hook it up to. Unfortunately, the G2 does not have this functionality out of the box or available in any custom capacity. It may be possible to manipulate the USB driver on the phone to achieve this, but I have not heard of a way, you'd need to talk with a dev to find out for sure.
As far as getting past this issue, your best bet is going to probably be to try to hard brick, but without a screen to work with that will be damn near impossible. I hope you're able to do it man, I would not want to be in your sitch. Good Luck.
The screenshots your asking about is DDMS, it's in the sdk/adb folder.
I've always worried about this too, I was thinking do what he said with the stock stuff but do the fastboot reboot bootloader command and try running it there. I gotta do a vibrant warrently here soon so I gotta do the same thing.
So you can't do that with visionary? I hope so... cause that's how I did it lol.

Was using Odin , got stuck forever. The phone won't do anything now, won't reboot normally won't boot into recovery , won't boot into download mode. Totally non reponsive , nothing ever on screen , no charging icon . Battery out then back in , plugged into usb then put in battery.. tried it all.
looking for suggestions, phone is going back to t-mobile if I cant fix this
Try entering download mode again and reflash your phone. Download the tar again in case the previous was corrupt.
Pull out the battery and put it back in. hold vol up and down at the same time and then connect the USB cable. This will get you back into download mode.
Good luck!
Also, I believe this is in the wrong forum. I'm not a mod but I believe it belongs in the general section.

It's a common misconception (I did it myself) that the power button is also used in the sequence to enter download mode, this isn't the case. Just hold down vol up & down and connect the usb cable, do not press the power button.
Just trying to rule everything out
If this doesn't work for you then I'm out of ideas. Are you still able to get into recovery? If you are, try flashing a ROM and see what happens.
Just to clarify, what does your phone do when you turn it on? Does it boot loop or get stuck somewhere?
EDIT:NVM reread original post (selfn00b'd myself). Totally unresponsive? I believe you should still be able to get into d/l mode since I think they set that up as failsafe. If you can't then it probably will have to go back. Bummer
I'v herd that it somtimes helps to take the battery out and let it sit for 30 min
But thankfully I can not confirm!
May also want to try different computer and cable

You did not read the OP , The phone died after using Odin(which DL mode is required) , obviously the phone is easy to get into DL mode. The phone is stone dead and won't power into anything
its funny when people suggest you try something to power on your phone even after youve just told them you have tried it all. kind of annoying actually.
but same thing happen to me man. i finally gave up and sent it to samsung today, that would probably be your best option. either that or tmobile

Thats what I ended up doing , they are sending out a new phone. It is disturbing that you can actually KILL your phone using Odin. I have flashed a ton of phones a million times and never ended up with a door stop.
Im surprised the GS2 is brickable. I came from a Vibrant (Galaxy S) and that phone was impossible to brick. I was always able to bring it back to download mode but sometimes i had to try different combinations of things to get it into DL mode like remove sim or battery etc. What I'm saying is your phone can be fussy.

My brother, myself, and my fiancee all got s2's. Day of, I odin'd recovery to both mine and my brother's and rooted with no problem. tried it on my fiance's, dead in the water. did the same exact thing to all 3, didn't change any procedures. If you keep trying to turn it on, sometimes the led flashlight from the camera will flash for a second, other times it actually turns on and continues to work as normal but once you turn it off again, it may not turn on again. i got it to turn on again and actually odin'd back to stock recovery. problem was NOT fixed even after this, and after i turned it off again, it turned on again once, but never again after that. filed for warranty exchange. i used to think as long as you can odin back to stock you're fine, but it clearly wasn't the case. looks like we just got unlucky. if you bought the phone from a corporate tmobile store, bring your receipt and trade it in at the store because they give you a new phone. if you do a warranty exchange, they send you a refurbished phone (although the s2 is new enough that they might send you a new one anyway if you're lucky).
Hi,
I'm genuinely sorry if this is an often repeated thread, but I couldn't find anyone here suffering from exactly the same symptons as me.
I've had my One X for a couple of months, it's completely unrooted and has nothing on it you can't get from Google's app market. I'm with Orange, in the UK, so the phone's running all their default stuff.
My phone's been running quite hot ever since I got it, but, today, I had it in my pocket while I drove to work (20) minutes, and it must have overheated and turned itself off.
I couldn't turn it on, and, in my panic, I held the power button for ten seconds, and saw the buttons at the bottom flash. Since then, nothing at all, no charging light (from USB or mains). I've tried all combinations of power/volume button presses and absolutely nothing has happened at all. Nothing at all since the first button flashes on the first long power button press (10 seconds). Now, it's been like that for about 8 hours and has been on and off charge all day, to no avail. (no LED at all, at any point, red nor green).
I've just got back from holiday and have a tonne of pictures and vids I have probably lost, but want to try to recover. I'd be really, really grateful for the assistance of the experienced people here. I'm, as you may have picked up, a hopeless newb.
When I connect via laptop to USB, the computer (Windows 7) detects an APX device, whatever that is, but the automated driver installation fails. Nothing shows up in Windows explorer.
Is there anything I/You/We can do?
My last resort is to send it back to Orange, and ask if they can retrieve data, but I expect they'll just send a new phone and wipe/refurbish my old one for someone else.
Is it possible to send phones back to HTC for repair, without losing data?
And finally, although I've not seen anything on the screen at all, no bootloaders, no recovery screen, nothing, might some combinatin of my button-mashing have already wiped the phone?
On a scale of One to OH DEAR...how screwed am I?
Please help me, XDA!
Edit: Ah, I can see it as a device, actually. Shows up as an "APX Device", but I can't do anything with it.
Did you press power + volume up?
If so, it's in "bricked state" now and only HTC can recover it.

Yeah, I think once I tried everything else I tried that.
Is this what NVFlash can get around on other phones, but not the One X?
Assuming that's what I have done, will HTC be able to recover my personal data? I don't care about app-data, just photos and vids.
Should I go through HTC directly, or through my mobile network/carrier? The phone should still be in warranty, it's only a couple of months old.
Edit: Although, one thing to add to that is that at no point, apart from the very first 10-second power button press, did anything happen on the phone at all. If that makes any difference, at all.
I had a chat to an HTC customer services bod, who said that even if they can recover data during a phone repair they automatically wipe it, due to the Data Protection Act (UK).
Anyone happen to know if you can waive your right to data portection in certain instances?

trust me, backup and restore, even if you waived your rights and htc confirmed they wouldn't wipe it, i guarantee you 100% you would still get a phone back that has been wiped.

I know you're probably spot on there. It's potentially more trouble to HTC than it's worth, to go messing with personal data.
But, my phone's all but dead. I can't backup and restore.
Unless I can figure out how to make sense of this "APX" device detection thing.
Can I still somehow root my phone, if the only "access" I ahve to it is seeing it as an APX device? I can't do anything with it. I can't get into the bootloader to unlock it to allow rooting.
Or can I?
would a battery pull prompt the phone to start normally again possibly? The phone isn't hard to open, but htc will probably know if it has been since you might make a mess of some of the glue and shields in there.
Edit: Did you ever enter your dropbox details into your OneX? because it should have auto camera upload on by default. Check your camera upload folder of your dropbox on the web if so.
This may be useful for the s off development. It seems overheat protection may trigger apx

If I get desperate enough I might try pulling it open....
I never setup Dropbox, unfortunately. Nice idea though, and I sure as hell will next time.
If my phone's death can further the cause of open One X's for all, then I'm all for it. At this point, I'd pay someone to try and get my data off, too.
If someone wants to talk me through trying to access it in this "apparent" APX mode, I'm up for experimenting.
unfortunately I am also in the same situation,
my HTC OneX has a MIUI ROM, and today while I was playing it is locked, I pressed for 5 seconds the power button and the phone will go off at the time of restart anything! black screen and each function has ceased to work!
the strange thing is that for some time the FlashBoot worked, now no longer even that!
someone has found a solution to at least access to the memory to retrieve the data?
please help me

However, if you can't access the Bootloader even now... Your screwed. ..
