Inconsistant UIDs? Unstable? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using WiFi tethering and the phone got real hot. I tried everything to keep it cool, then the battery went real low. While trying to text someone before turning off the phone to rest, it went completely dead. Now when I try to turn it back on, it won't load. Keep rebooting over and over constantly. Something about Inconsistent UIDs and being unstable. What can I do to fix it? I've tried everything within CWM (purple), but no luck.

You got corrupt data...
Ways to Fix:
1.Restore an old or recent nandroid backup that u may have..
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset In Clockwork 3 time then reflash the rom
3. Odin to something then reflash rom
I recommended either 1 or 2.

David is correct. You can try just reflashing the ROM first but will probably end up clearing data to get rid of the error.

Solution to my problem with latest Phoenix rom 2.2.1?

I want to be sure to mention that prior to this incident phoenix was working flawlessly and I was loving it. Ok, so I put the Phoenix rom on my phone last week after a 3x3 wipe. I then changed some preferences and settings and synced contacts and then I saved a back up.
Today, I took the battery out of my phone to recharge it and I think that I didnt shut the phone down before I took the battery out so I am not sure if this is what caused the problem. So after I did that and rebooted, the phone function stopped working as I get the message "the application phone has stopped unexpectedly." I am also getting the same message when I click on the email as well.
So after this problem arised, I proceeded to go to cwm and wiped my phone 3x3 and then restored it to the state that I previously did a back up on when it was working good. However, after I did the restore I am still getting the same messages when i perform the email and phone functions.
I thought that the restore would have solved this problem. Why didnt it? How do i solve this problem and could taking the battery out without powering down the phone first cause this?
Ok, hopefully you had a nandroid made. If you did, wipe everything 3x, fresh install Phoenix, reboot, log in, power down, reboot recovery, wipe 3x and restore nandroid. Fresh installing a ROM gets rid of those errors that restoring a nandroid doesnt

Nothing is working on my phone.....
I even click on contacts and i get "the process android.process acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Can someone help me?......please dont tell me this is bricked.

Nope, not bricked. There are stages of fixes to try. First, boot to recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik 3x and reboot. If that doesn't work you will have to wipe everything and reflash the ROM. You will lose your setup unfortunately. That's why its crucial to make a nandroid when you have your setup all dialed in. To make a nandroid just boot to recovery, scroll to "Backup and restore" and select "Backup"

well,i made a back up in recovery (cwm) if that is what you meant. I already tried to 3x wipe everything that then restore the back up that i made at the time that I first flashed the phoenix rom. And when it booted i was getting the same fc messages.
I guess, i will try and follow the step by step you mentioned above and try and use my back up one last time. I am corrrect right?....you are talking about the back up that i use in cwm3.1 right?
My apologies for the misunderstanding on the def of nandroid. I thought that that was a "special" kind of back up you were referring to. Anyway, I did everything you said in terms of installing the fresh rom first and WALA-WORX! I will give ya a thanx. YOU DA MAN!

Unfixable boot loop... Help?

Hey everyone,
So this is my last ditch effort to attempt to save my device. I would really prefer not to perform another warranty exchange given that I am not under insurance, but I'm afraid I have no choice.
My phone was rooted and I was using Darkside without issues, as I had been for the past two weeks. I am always careful when I flash roms and I made sure to follow every possible protocol. That's the background information.
My battery life was running at approximately 6 percent yesterday and I sent a text message as normal, and it was stuck at sending. I tried turning wireless data off from the toggles in the pull-down and it was unresponsive. When I went to Wireless Network in the settings option, my phone rebooted. Once it started up again, my service would not come back, and the phone would continually bootloop once it got past the traditional "media scanner running", etc. My window of opportunity to do anything was really slim.
I charged my phone to see if it made a difference, but it didn't. Tried with my SIM card removed and it still bootlooped. I was able to get to CWM from the advanced power menu before it rebooted again and I fixed permissions and cleared cache and dalvik. Now the phone wouldn't even get past the boot animation before rebooting.
I put the phone into download mode and reverted back to stock using Odin. The phone now got past the boot animation in stock mode, but was unable to find service and after about 10 seconds fell into the same bootloop pattern. I tried removing the SD card but that didn't help either. Using Odin again, I reflashed recovery, followed by root and tried reinstalling a rom through CWM (I have only used regular CWM, not the touch version) with a superwipe to ensure a clean flash. Once again, it wouldn't make it past the boot animation before bootlooping. I reverted back to stock using Odin, and this is where I stand.
I have tried all traditional methods to salvage the phone and, for the life of me, I cannot understand what happened. The only thing I notice is that regardless of how long the phone stays on before rebooting, it is never able to find service. It's like the radio or modem broke and the phone has no other choice but to restart forever. But reflashing the stock UVKL1 should also reflash the proper modem and radio, right?
Has this ever happened to anyone? Any suggestions (aside from the typical reverting to stock) as to how I might be able to stop it? I searched but haven't been able to find a situation quite like this one. Thanks in advance for your help.
Really sorry to hear about your problem. Assuming the 2.3.6 stock image you flashed via Odin is the one provided by Przekret and that that didn't work, then I'd try one or both of these two longshots to try to clear possible corruption problems in either the kernel or modem spaces:
For each of the following wipe cache and Dalvik cache in CWM before flashing and again wipe Dalvik afterwards and also fix permissions:
1) Format system (do this 3x) under mounts & storage in CWM. Flash the standalone Darkside kernel X v1 final immediately after flashing, e.g., the current Darkside rom. (You'll need to wipe data, too, if not coming from a Darkside rom. Do not do any Superwipe - neither the standalone version nor using a flag.)
2) Flash the KID modem (do this 3x). Both Odin- and CWM-flashable versions are available. (You can always flash back to KL1 if the problem is fixed.)
Hope this is clear. It's late! These are both things that have helped get my phone out of troubles, though not as bad as yours. Good luck!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
Also if u used the one from przekret then I'm almost positive that Odin package flashes the new radio too. If memory serves me right. Op let us know what happened
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. I'm on the phone with T-Mobile, I see no other solution but to get it exchanged under warranty and it's not getting here until March 15th, according to the representative. I suppose I'll just use a replacement phone in the meantime. It's just really weird and frustrating... I could understand a bad flash or something similar, but I followed every step accurately as I always have and everything was working just fine until it randomly decided to die without warning.
Well since you're getting another one anyways I would continue trying to fix this one, just in case you come up with a solution and for another worst case scenario for your new phone.

[Q] unfortunately the process android.process.XXX has stopped

So I'm having a problem I can't seem to fix.
I'm rooted, have been running the stock everything but with a few tweaks and some bloat removed. Everything works great but I am hoping to improve battery life. So I researched a few ROMs and pick a couple to try. I can flash them just fine with no problems, get all my apps back and set up with no problems. and I can use the phone all day just like normal.
Now the problem: if ever I have to restart for some reason, or even after I make a nandroid back up, when it restarts and boots up I eventually get several messages where processes are one by one stopping. until the phone is useless and froze up.
So it goes through 10 or more of these:
Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped
Unfortunately, the process android.process.phone has stopped
etc, etc,etc
I have tried everything I could find on here to fix, but it seems all fixes are for a single process failing. This happens to me on all Roms I have tried, but I am just wanting to run Sonic. Even if I restore the nandroid I get the messages. If I factory reset or restore my kid-of-stock backup I am fine. If I start over and reflash a clean Rom I can set up and use but as soon as I restart it happens again. Sometimes when restarting I get a message about android updating but can't figure out how to stop that from happening.
Thanks in advance for any help!!! This is very annoying.
Are you doing full wipes and factory reset? If you are doing this between each flash then it sounds like you are restoring bad data into your apps.

Try re-flashing the latest Gapps and seeing if that will help.
It has done when I've had the same problem before.

I thought the same thing so I tried without putting back in any apps. And still happened. And if I flash Sonic with TB it does it right away when I get booted up for some reason.

Thanks, I'll try to find the latest Gapps now and report back if it helps out. But I'm not real familiar with the Gapps part so it may take some searching to figure out what theya re for Sonic Rom if it matters the rom.
This is the reason why I do not do any backup.. Most stuff on my phone is not important enought to require a back up.. If I have issues, I just reinstall the rom and my apps from the market.. I have only reinstalled my current rom once, and that is because I was not able to change my current prl...

Sounds like you need to do a FULL Wipe before you Flash. Also make sure your Downloading the Rom over WiFi, or Hardline.

Do not restore anything with TB whatsoever and I can assure you it will work. There is corrupt data somewhere.

The process I use for Flashing Roms is the same one I've always used. It's the one that's in my Sig. I'll also relink, in case your on the mobile. I have used it for a very long time now. It avoids a lot of the hassles of a bad flash.

Thank You All
Thank you all for your help!!!
So far I have managed to flash the rom and reboot several times with no issues.
I have only had this GS3 for a week now and I feel I can finally play with some roms and see what I like. I usually find one I like and stick with it. On my EVO Shift I used the same rom for 2 years.
Here is what I did for anyone that may have same problem:
Wiped everything, per-normal.
Loaded ROM.
Loaded a few of the apps I wanted to keep some settings for (like GO Launcher and Handcent) using Rom Toolboxes App manager.
I then rebooted to see if I had any problems... none.
Used Rom Toolbox to install just the apps and no data for my other 50+ apps I wanted to keep.
Made Nandroid backup, which forced reboot... no problems.
Installed Titanium Backup, this is where I was nervous because I thought it might be that app causing problems with asking about new ID and such. Installed just 2 apps that I wanted to keep data for that Rom Toolbox for whatever reason didn't have, maybe I didn't have a recent backup. 2 apps were Tasker and GO Bookmark widget. When asked to change ID I selected "later" and after restoring 2 apps I imediatly deleted TB.
Reboot to see if I got errors... none
Setup all settings and tweaks I wanted.
Made Nandroid backup... no issues yet
I then deleted all TB backups I had on SD card figuring one was the culprit.
I am still nervous to re install TB but at least as of now I have a working nandroid to revert to so after a couple days I will reuse it.
As of now I have had no issues what so ever... and I can tell battery life on this Sonic rom is much better.
Glad your all sorted out . I do not think that Titanium Backup the App itself is was causing the issues. Although I do recognize somethings that could. Restoring GoLauncher with settings Data could cause issues. Especially from one Rom to the next. Hopefully your not trying to restore the Data settings you had on the Shift. Also with Handcent, I would not restore settings across different Roms.

I had the exact same problem with a reoccurring message that would flash on and off every second or so. I did both a data restart then a reboot of the android software by pushing the down volume button then holding the power button. When the LG logo appeared I released both buttons and followed the instructions for an android factory reboot. Apparently it is the SIM card. The android com.android.phone communicates with the SIM card and allows calls and texts to be sent and received using the android software. My SIM card got damaged somehow and could not receive the call from the android app com.android.phone. I had to buy a new SIM card for ten dollars and had my stored files on the SIM moved to the new one and no more problems. Telus and Bell move the files to the new SIM for free i'm sure other major service providers offer the same free service.
@pokey2000 Thanks for that info. But this is the Sprint S3 section. And the user you are replying to has a Sprint S3. Sprint phones are Cdma and do not have a removable sim card.

[Q] HELP! my note 2 wont boot past samsung logo!

hey, new user here, don't know if this has come up before but i did a search and haven't found anything that has the same particulars as i do.
recently my phone hasn't been responding to power button or home button wake up, intermittently. freezes up sometimes and some apps force close more than usual. then the other day, my phone died on me (full battery discharge) and when i finally got around to charging it, it charged fully but it wouldn't turn on past the Samsung boot logo, and gets real hot while doing so.
Also, the samsung boot logo appears before the AT&T splash screen tone starts.
im running stock Rooted 4.1.2 with the latest perseus kernel version.
any suggestions? i havent made a nandroid in a couple weeks, so my preferred route would be without a data wipe.
i can still access CWM recovery, btw.
well damn wheres the help?
I would download the stock rom and flash it again. If that doesnt work, custom rom time. I honestly cant see this problem getting fixed without a data wipe though good luck and keep me posted.

With the non-response issues you describe, and the fact that you are seeing multiple force closes on the device....start with a wipe of the cache and dalvik cache in recovery.
It sounds as if the device is having cache file management issues, and trouble within the file structure.
While I dont think you have any hardware issues, it does sound like the software is suffering for one reason or another, and a base cleaning of the caches may help.
If no improvement is seen after cache cleaning, then we move to the data next.
I realize you want to keep your data intact, but if corruption has occured, you will have no choice but to factory restore the device and test again.
Try the cache cleaning first, then boot and test....
Beyond that...as the above poster states...a fresh install may be needed....g
Before a data wipe try reinstalling the kernel, and also try dirty flashing the Rom.
Not sure I would recommend a dirty flash to him. Plenty of times the result for users has been bad. Though as stated above yours, It does appear to be a file system error. He is probably right and I should have thought about wiping the dalvic cache first.
Sent from my X501_USA_Cricket using Tapatalk 2
i was afraid this would happen....
tried wiping both caches with no new results.
ive read that dirty flash has had mixed results. if i can at least get the OS booted so that i could backup what i need to, that would be a good thing.
im thinking its a kernel issue, since the phone gets real hot while stuck on the samsung screen. could i be right?
thanks guys:good:
i also tried reinstalling the kernel through cwm recovery, nothing new
FIXED
did a data/factory reset from recovery. it kept everything! thank god for cloud backups. Google is the JOINT!! i even kept my kernel and root, and at&t backed up my texts and calls....thanks everybody for the help, i really appreciate it!
its still kinna hot though...turned it off to let it cool down and see what happens when i start it back up....will keep posted if anything

Great news ....
Data corruption is so very easy to get.
As we mix and match pieces of code, those issues do arise.
Sadly, the causes are often elusive.
But the plan "B" wipe generally does the trick, as is the case here.
Happy flashing....g

[Q] --My cwm screwed over.

Hello,
I have a Samsung galaxy s2 T-Mobile edition.
I had Dirt Unicorns 4.3 installed on it.
I wanted to try something different so I was going to try liquid smooth 4.4.2
so I did the usual way:
-Boot into recovery Cwm 6.0.4.3
-made backup
-Factory reset / erase data
-wipe cache
-Wipe dalvik
-then ran Dark side super wipe ( I searched the internet and concluded that this is were I went wrong)
-Installed gapps
-installed ROM
It was all going fine but when the ROM booted up it was really terrifying. The ROM keep freezing and didn't let me do anything. Didn't even have the soft keys on.
So then I said oh well the rom blows(it probably doesnt just with me) so then I felt a little better because of course I had a backup of DU.
So I turned off my phone booted into cwm. This time it said something about it couldn't load the last_log.
Then I went to restore and tried to restore my backup.
All didn't go as planned, it moved system then data but when it went to .android_secure it immediately went to mounting sdcard0 and froze there.
so I let it stay there for a good 10min and nothing. So I held down my power button and it shut off. Turned it on it would go to a boot loop then just stay in the endless boot screen.
So after I felt really sad and down I tried to look up some stuff on my kindle about the problem.
Some people said it was cuz cwm 6.0 doesn't like darkside. It will do bad things so I was screwed.
then I read that it is a cache problem. So since the backups do the system and data I tried to do an advanced restore of just the cache. Long and behold it stayed frozen for a good 20m.
So then I tried a bunch of things trying to factory reset it can't format cache I tried to just for format the cache. nope. I tried to restore the backup a couple of times. I had another backup from awhile back of DU but some result. Then alittle bit of glory.
I had a backup of a while back. It was the jedi mind trick x4 ics. I restored that and oh man i was happy. It booted up fine and dandy and i have a decent "working" phone. It still has problems like when you lock the screen it doesnt turn off, just not interactive. and once i lock it the soft keys go crap and dont work(got button savior). So i thought well if this rom worked maybe the cwm is fixed. I tried to boot into the cwm through the power menu of the rom and it just froze while turning off. Held the power button then booted into recovery and the blue options line didnt come up so then i rebooted again and this time didnt let go of the volume buttons when the background came on. Thankfully they came on.
SO... i tried to run my backup of DU again and nope so then i repeated to go back to jedi mind trick cuz i need a working phone.
What im trying to solve is can i go back to DU working perfectly fine.
also i have tryed mostly everything in recovery But post as much help as you can and ill get back to you.
--
I also have been doing some research about the problem i had. Lots of other people had it but not really a solution.
I have kinda concluded on a solution in mind.
Heres the big question:
Can i unroot my phone and put the original firmware and stuff. Then just reroot and put a rom?
Is there a way to solve this problem?
Sorry for the big topic but i am really stressing because its a really good phone and i dont want to go to a crappy backup.
Thank you if you can help!

I had a similar issue flashing a new ROM and I had to unroot my phone as well. This was the guide I used: http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-ga...-to-ics-stock-on-t-mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989/
After this you may want to upgrade to the latest firmware by using Kies, and then try your hand at re-rooting and putting another ROM.
Hope it works out for you. :highfive: :fingers-crossed:
Don't know about the rest of your post because I don't have experience with that ROM.
