[Q] Custom ROM installing - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm thinking to install Custom ROM to my DESIRE HD - "Android Revolution HD™ 5.2.5".
As I understand I need two things to make it happen: S-OFF and ClockworkdMod recovery.
#Question 1
As you see in image attached below - my phone is already S-OFF (why?! I did'nt do that!).
Is this means I am already ready to install ClockworkdMod as described in #Question2 ?
#Question 2
How to install recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.6-ace.img - really don't understand this part. Do I need to connect my PHONE to USB and boot in RECOVERY MODE, then do this on my pc:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.6-ace.img
fastboot reboot
(android sdk installed)
Is "ROOTING" doing after this step ?
Will my STOCK ROM will boot with ClockWorkmod ?
#Question 3
If everything goes fine and installation of Custom rom succeeeds. Is there a possibility to revert it back to STOCK using HTC official RUU ?

I couldn't enlarge the image you have attached but I suspect your phone hasn't been downgraded yet. Go through the development forum and find out how to downgrade your dhd thread and you will get all your answer. And everyone thinks of reverting back to stock but once you start flashing custom rom you will be always ahead of stock roms and you will never think to go back.
But reading is essential before you start playing with your $600 toy.

To downgrad just follow this thread and then continue with this one here. Everything is written there and you should do excatly what they tell you to. Or just take this all in one thread.

This questions should be answered in the above threads and how you do it...

If you don't have to downgrade your phone or once it has been downgraded - simply follow this short video.

[Q] Bootloader issue

Hello everyone,
After I installed the latest official 2.3 RUU downloaded from the official HTC site, the system was crashing each time I used the camera.
So I decided to downgrade to 2.2...it didn't work
After trying, googling, reading for hours, i found this site : http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
I installed the tool, which, if i understand right, disables some security flag and provides the ability to flash a recovery rom. Everything worked fine, it installed then loaded the 2.1 recovery rom
I was then able to flash the stock 2.2 RUU rom
Now, here comes the point :
I then jumped to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 in order to try a custom rom
Followed the tutorial, but stuck at the point where the unrevoked tool reboots the first time the desire. It says "waiting for the boot loader"
Issue is : the boot loader is started but visibly auto-running the recovery image
This means I'm a little bit stuck..i can't understand how to overcome the fact that the bootloader automatically install this recovery rom
My questions :
1) The revolutionary-unrevoked tool I runned is just intended to switch this security flag off or is it also considered after the recovery as a rooting tool ?
2) At this point, with the idea to load a custom rom, do I still need to run http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ ?
-If yes, how ? (since after a reboot the bootloader automatically load the recovery image) maybe replacing the bootloader ?
-If no, may I proceed with the "Partitioning step" ?
3) I tough flashing a stock RUU rom would reset everything to stock (also bootloader) -> seems it's not the case. does this make sense ?
Thanks for your help
1) Revolutionary sets the bootloader s-off, you are right there. To get root access, you have to flash the zip from recovery which you find on the documentary side.
2) No, after flashing the zip there is no sense in running unrevoked (any more). To partition your sd card, you have two options:
flash a recovery which has the feature to partition sd card, e.g. RMD Recovery
use gparted
3) Ususally it does. Bu the new bootloaders with version 6.93.1002 have a overwrite protection against ruus or ota. To overwrite this hboot, you have to flash the bravo downgrader from alpharev.nl first.
thanks so much for this quick reply, so this was a all-in-one step.
now i just need to partition and i'm go to go

Yeah, that's why revolutionary was created.

[Q] Unbranded ROM for HOX

Hi,
Just followed bagocrap24's excellent step-by-step guide for unlocking the bootloader on the One X and am about to install Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.2.7.
I'm on branded T-Mobile ROM at the moment (v.1.26.110.5). I have downloaded this ROM posted by rogersnm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25310993&postcount=518
Once I've got the CWM recovery installed, is it a simple case of installing the stock 1.28 ROM or have I missed something? There seems to be so much information spread across so many threads, I don't know what I need to know and what I don't, if that makes sense.
I really don't want to screw up my phone, and would just like to be running stock v1.28 ROM.
Thanks for your help folks.
Hello there,
I flashed the InsertCoin ROM, it works very well and stock 1.28 with tweak options up to your choice!
Download the Rom.zip, copy the boot.img from within the download and put it in the same folder where u have the fsstboit and cwm files according to the noon guide u just followed, copy the zip of the ROM to the root of your HOX storage...
Power down the HOX and boot into hboot, select fastboot, connect your HOX, open a cms window on your computer type in
cd c:\fastboot
then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can flash first the zip from within cwm and then the boot.img as you have only your (backed up in cwm) shipped Rom on it, right? Take good care of the backup....
So, put the zip on HOX, boot into cwm, choose zip, install zip follow on screen guide, boot into hboot, select fastboot, do the cmd as above, re-boot and you good to go!
Be aware to not let the battery drain as in OFF mode it won't charge for the time being...
Let me know how you got on...happy flashing

Thanks for your reply. I've updated to the latest CWM Recovery and am now just looking for a stock, unbranded HTC 1.28 ROM.
I'm weird in that I actually like 'Sense', I'd just like to be rid of the T-Mobile crap they shoe-horned in (for no apparent reason or benefit). Would be nice to be network-unlocked too.
Is there a stock HTC 1.28 RUU for download yet?
Edit:
Am I being dim? Further reading suggests I may need to be on stock recovery and locked bootloader to install RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.9_Radio_ 1.1204.103.14_release_256469_signed?
edited. CWM was updated. ;p
Updated again? I'm on 5.8.3.1 which seems to be the latest.
I'm still being dim. How do I remove the T-Mobile RUU (1.26.110.x) and flash 1.28.401.9 which I've downloaded?
Folks, I'm still a little confused as to what I need to do to get the unbranded ROM on my phone. Do I need to flash a stock recovery, re-lock the bootloader, wipe the phone and then install the unbranded ROM?
Many thanks, I just don't want to delete the ROM on my phone without knowing I've understood what I need to do next...
Edit: With stock recovery and relocked bootloader, attempting to enter recovery brings up the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
Anyone...? I was really hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Start by following the Everything HTC One X link in my signature and deciding what you want to do. Come back if you have further questions.
Thanks pdagenius, I've already read through that thread.
As I understand it, I have two options:
1) install a stock, unbranded HTC ROM. This requires a relocked bootloader and stock recovery. When I reset to stock recovery and relocked the bootloader, I couldn't get into the recovery to flash the unbranded ROM. I get the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
2) I can use a different ROM such as Android Revolution HD (which I like the look of as it looks stock). However, there seems to be conflicting information wrt to whether or not to flash new firmware (seems this isn't possible with S-ON?). Additionally, the boot.img link for download in the OP is broken.
As great a community as this is, I've found that often there is simply so much information out there that it's overwhelming, and difficult to find what I need to know and what I don't need to worry about. I think to think I have a little savvy about me but tbh it's a little bit 'information overload'.
With the phone being so new, I really can't afford to brick it....
OK, I've gone with ARHD now..
Thanks to those who offered advice, this thread can now be closed.

ok, i think you've tried to flash a stock rom without flashing a stock recovery !!.
do you have fasboot adb on your pc ?
you need to unlock your bootloader and re flash a custom recovery
if not search the dev section for a tool that will unlock your boot and re-flash a custom recovery for you-all the instructions are on there.
once you have re unlocked and flashed a custom recovery,go into recovery and see if there are any backups of the previous rom (nand)
see if that works ..

According to the hboot (1.12) you need a 2.17 based ruu .... but i can't find it !
Tthe basic steps now are
Unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140
Get your nandroid backup there,(the vodap021 2.17) you need to flash the boot.img file from that nandroid with fastboot commands, then do a full wipe in recovery and restore the nandroid.
But you still have to fix the fastboot part right ? You need to install android SDK/java SDK and the HTC drivers. Then you have to put the phone in the bootloader and open a commandprompt from inside the folder where the adb/fastboot files are located ...they are in a subfolder in the installed javaSDK install folder

Thanks, it is beginning to make some sense to me now.
So first bit I got to do is the fastboot issue, which is tha last bit you mentioned right?
And after unlock boot loader than flash the recovery with one you provided in the link, tx
So that means I will go back to stock right?
Yes unlock, flash custom recovery, flash boot.img, full wipe in recovery, restore the nandroid, flash back the stock recovery .....
And yes this way you go back to stock and i will also give you the download link for the stock recovery. This one is the last you flash after restoring everything
http://db.tt/U5CK4noo
Then you are able to update to JB from within the phones software update menu
Ps you do not have to relock the bootloader anymore !

Please guys, iWe spent all day trying to figure it out, after wipe phone reboots constantly and when if boot screen it's not charging so I'm prob going to run out of battery in a couple of hours
You restore through the custom recovery. Power+vol , choose recovery. If you flashed the recovery ok then you can do from in there. Ie mount usb, copy over your nand backup and restore it. You may have to flash the boot.img using fastboot.

problem solved quickly and easily, you drop another android rom version 4.0 with your radio included, use the esayaceroottool, the tools folder / win meti the boot.img of the rom I get off, then you remove the battery to phone and start it in fastboot mode and connect the pc, the folder win run a terminal and run the following command fastboot devices, I recognized the phone and then wrote fastboot flash boot boot.img, then disconnect the phone and gets the rom on the sd, it starts in recovery mode, install zip from sd car and go.

Hey pal first off, this is the wrong forum. This is the old wildfire forums not the wildfire s. But I shall help you out none the less
Since your phone is hboot unlocked but not s-off you need to flash your custom roms boot.img via fastboot just after you flash the rom via recovery. When you download the rom it comes in a zip file, unzip a copy of it and place the boot.img in your fastboot folder, then copy the zip to your sd card and then flash via recovery. Once it's flashed boot into hboot by using advanced reboot options I think its called. Then flash the boot.img using the command
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Where boot.img is the name of the .img you took from the zip file (just in case you have renamed it and don't know why the command is not working)
Then do fastboot reboot and the phone should boot up okay. You need to flash the boot.img for every rom change that you do. Also should you decide you want to run a RUU you must relock you hboot or it won't run.

HI.
firste off i would like to thank you for taking the time to responde to my question and im sorry about posting in the wrong forum.
i watched the XDA DEV noob video on youtube about being a noob so before i posted my question i looked through each and every post i could find about my phone s problem but NO LUCK so i decided to ask the experts
*i did relock my bootloader before i ran the Ruu and it didnt work it said main version too old and since my costume rom is based on andoird 2.3.7 and my htc can only go as far as 2.3.5 and ruu wont let you downgrade so i figured it might not work.
*now you suggested that i flash the costume rom via recovery and thats the problem i cant even get in to my recovery it just gets stuck on the white htc screen and i tried flashing the recovery Again (twrp) and nothing. even other recoveries wouldnt work.
*i flashed about 4 roms and they all worked just fine even this last one and i didnt flash the boot.img and i was able to reboot normally
THANK YOU.

Okay so, let's recap.
You are on a custom android rom.
You have a custom recovery installed.
Your cannot flash the RUU as your run version is higher than the RUU.
Lastly you cannot boot into your custom Rom, or your recovery?
Do you want to return to stick it get a custom Rom flashed?

Your cannot flash the RUU as your run version is higher than the RUU.
Lastly you cannot boot into your custom Rom, or your recovery?
Do you want to return to stick it get a custom Rom flashed?

Q: if i flash a system via fastboot successfully will it automaticly erase the old one because i tried to erase it but it said remot controle not allowed (S-on)
ok, ive requested this thread be moved to its correct forum.
before proceeding can you tell me when your htc wildfire marvel was made? after 2012?
can you flash clockworkmod recovery and then try flashing a custom htc sense rom
Then reboot back into cwm recovery (by selecting advanced/ reboot-recovery in the menus) and plug the phone into your computer via usb cable. open up your command prompt and move to your adb folder. type the following commands ( a # denotes instructions and should not be typed into the command window)
Code:
adb devices
#this should show your device up, maybe saying its in recovery mode
adb shell
# the command prompt should change to a # symbol
Now make sure you have a sdcard in the phone and then run the following command
Code:
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
This should leave you with a file called misc.img on your sdcard. Lastly
Code:
exit
exit
exit
your command window should have closed. now upload this file to a online storage system like dropbox and send me a pm with a link to it. I will edit it and you can flash it back, this will relock your hboot and downgrade your software version so that RUU's will work. then we will run a RUU, returning your phone to stock and functional state

Hmm.... Okay reflash twrp and see if it boots up. Without a recovery your options are limited. You need to be careful as your device uses a different kernel from older versions of the wildfire s. If you flash a older RUU version it will kill your phone.
Do you have any phone unlock shops near you?

Make sure when you go to the unlock shop you make sure they use an XTC clip http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/xtc_clip.htm
If they don't have it then do not pay for an unlock. You need s-off not SIM unlocked. Make sure to ask for it. Once your S-off you can run any RUU and fix the phone but check in here first so I can ensure that its compatible with your 2012 edition of the phone ( as I said flashing one that is too old will kill the phone!)
