Return to s-on - Desire General

Been trying to get my desire back to s-on to send for repair. Was on cm7 hboot, flashed back to alpharev standard desire hboot and flashed the standard HTC ROM but it still shows alpharev in fastboot. Do I need to flash the alpharev hboot remover then flash the HTC ruu? Or is there something else I need to do ?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

Flash the alpha rev downgrade hboot then flash the ruu.

Thanks. Will try that when I get home.
Worked like a charm, off to HTC with it now.

Could you share the process...?
Could you share how you was able to return Desire back to S-On?
Thanks in advance.
Warm regards.

Hmm most people are too lazy to search.. You sir are apparently too lazy to read.
Let me quote the one comment in this thread not by the author(the one trying to help the author):

I'm pretty sure that's how he managed to return his desire to s-on, and I can confirm it's that easy.

Many thanks in dispensing your stark authoritarian observations.

If you are S-Off and want to return to S-On...
1. Enable USB Debuging on your phone
2. Visit this page http://alpharev.nl/ and scroll down to the table
3. Download the ‘Bravo Downgrader: PB99IMG_downgrade’
4. Rename ‘PB99IMG_downgrade’ to ‘PB99IMG’
5. Transfer ‘PB99IMG’ to the root directory of your phones SD card
6 Make sure you have no similar files at the root of your SD
7 On 2.3.3 make sure you disable ‘Fastboot’ goto - Settings - Applications – Disable Fastboot
8 Power down your phone
9 Whilst holding ‘Volume Down’ button press the ‘Power’ button
10 The bootloader screen should appear. Give it a minute to scan for the file and it will ask you if you want to go ahead with the installation, ‘Volume Up’ to select ‘yes’
11 Now you can flash your RUU stock ROM

Why the hell gets this question asked over and over again.... it was answered a thousand times.

I know its been asked many times but what about if you carrier doesn't have a ruu

No ruu = no warranty
(Btw If u are s-on just flash a stock rom, if s-off maybe u could flash some stock hboot, extracting it from a similar ruu...just to make ur phone appear stock and hope)
People should first learn how come back to stock, then starting rooting..

Then I would flash the ruu from htc and sent it directly to them without the detour about my carrier.

I don't have to send it to HTC I must send it to my carrier or take it into my carrier store.

What is "your carrier"? If we can know it
Are u sure about no ruu around?
Sent from my HTC Desire

No ruu for carrier
I'm with a regional carrier called Cellular South.

If I remember correctly, on xda (or a similar forum) exists a guide how to return us cellular back to stock. Just search a little for it.

PB99IMG_downgrade took me from s-on HBOOT 6.9.3.1002
to
s-off HBOOT 6.93.999
ran official FROYO Ruu......then Unrevoked back to root

I've tried to root my Desire by I get stuck at the "Backup CID missing" error. I did google about and couldn't find much and some said that the error appears when I need a gold card. Thing is my Desire is a factory unlocked piece and last time round I never used a gold card.
Its back from repair and now it is giving me this issue.
Any help appreciated

I had this problem initially on my SLCD desire 0.93 hboot.
The reason is that it need a custom root file to loaded through unlocker. This is available through XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9245153]
recovery-RA-desire-v1.7.0.1-R5.1-0.93.rar
after this it rooted perfectly

Go through this process if all else fails for you.
1. Make a goldcard (google it so you dont have to mess with hex anymore).
2. If your phone isnt branded download the latest ruu (or earlier if you want a lower hboot, but that doesn't matter anymore).
2a. If your phone is branded, find the ruu for your carrier.
3. Optional - if you are rooted, then nandroid, if not, back up apps etc if you want them.
4. Install HTC Sync (for drivers).
5. Put your phone in to fastboot (power + back button).
6. Connect USB and run ruu.
7. Once all that's done, select usb debugging and run unrevoked.
Worked for my messed up Desire!
- If step 6 is giving you hassle, go to device manager, find android and select drivers from a list, there should only be one or two extra.

连接手机和电脑,打开CMD(开始->运行->输入CMD,回车)
这里我一不小心,用了cygwin,所以显示上和你的会不太一样,没影响,仅仅是显示不太一样而已
输入:adb shell(确定你装好了adb,不过,你能遇到这个问题,应该就是装了吧)
然后
输入命令:/system/__unrevoked_su(使用unrevoked传至手机中的东东来获取root执行权限)
输入:cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 >/sdcard/misc.img(将misc分区镜像导出到sd卡上的misc.img文件中,强调一次,cat后面是有一个空格的!)
输入:getprop ro.cid(获取正确的CID号)
上一命令会有一个返回值:11111111(这个仅作为举例,请记下你获取到的值)
输入:exit(退出root)
输入:exit(退出adb shell)
输入:adb pull /sdcard/misc.img(将misc.img文件复制到CMD执行路径下,例如图中是Kitchen这个文件夹中,手动复制亦可,自由变通)
第一步完成了(这个时候没必要把CMD关了,待会还要用的)
现在打开一个十六进制编辑器,我用的winhex(提示镜像文件为磁盘时,选择否)
从0位置开始进行编辑。将上面获得的CID值写入,最后一位以00填充作为结束,如下图
然后就是要把这个misc.img文件重新刷回手机了。
输入:adb push misc.img /sdcard/new-misc.img(将该好的misc.img传到SD卡中,命名为new-misc.img,手动复制亦可,自由变通)
输入:adb shell
输入:/system/__unrevoked_su
输入:/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/new-misc.img(将修改过的misc.img文件重新刷回手机)
Try this version of unrEVOked:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/dd5yh9
As I mentioned above in Chinese
1. Pull out the misc partition to a misc.img
2. Write the correct CID into this misc.img file
3. flash back
You can traslate the Chinese into English with google traslate
Try unrevoked version 3.21 seems to work fine
Regards
Vengeance

[Q] RUU restore for warranty fails: error 140. Anyone can help?

Hi guys,
I own a Fastweb branded desire and back key isn't working anymore.
So I'm tring to restore the branded official rom for warranty.
I got s-off and root and my gold card is in.
I've flashed the old modaco r6 rom to avoid main version is older and flashed downgrade hboot(alpharev) too.
When I start the ruu hboot 0.75 and old radio are flashed properly, but I still have custom splash and cwm recovery also system is untouched.
Ruu stops with error 140 bootloader problem.
I'm still able to flash custom roms and I can s-off again, but I really don't know what to do.
Any help?
Thanks.
Best regards.

jussy,
I had exactly the same problem so I'll answer even tho this is the wrong thread. You have to start first by extracting the zip file from the RUU. Run the RUU until it gets to the first screen then leave it there (don't close it).
Go to Start -> Run and type %temp%.
Find the temporary folder folder that's just been created (sort based on date) and find a file called 'rom.zip'. Copy this file into another location and close the RUU.

I've extracted rom.zip and renamed to PB99IMG.zip. tried to flash it in fastboot.
Flash process start but stops before finishing leave me in the same situation as before. If I want to flash it again gives me main version is older.
I've s-off it 10 times today and made many try.
EDIT: I've also tried to flash via fastboot commander the .img files in rom.zip but after that I could only access fastboot.
Now I've flash a generic ruu to make it boot.
Tbh mate I'm not sure how to change it lol.. mayb delete and repost in q&a..

Dude, don't flash the zip, just put it in the root of your SD, then switch phone off, hold vol down button and reboot into recovery, your phone will recognize the pb99img.zip and some options should come up. Follow the on screen instructions and you should be unrooted in 15 mins max.

Sorry for my bad english but what you said is what I've done.
1-root and s-off.
2-flash downgrade hboot(alpharev).
3-put PB99IMG.zip (extract as said from my branded ruu) on sd card root.
4-boot power + vol down.
5-It starts, step 1 goes well then at the end of step 2 screen became black and came back with 0.75 hboot s-on and if I try again it gives me main version is older.
So I can only reboot, reflash a rom and s-off it again.
Never ending loop...
Thanks anyway.

I've got my gold card already in.
Sadly there's only one ruu for my carrier.
I can flash a generic froyo ruu but it's not good for warranty.
I can't really help in terms of your issue.
If I remember right, I booted into the bootloader and switched on fastboot, then ran the RUU EXE making sure my phone was connected to my pc.
It eventually came right.
Saying that, after I got the stock ROM back on, my phone went ape (and to this day I have no idea why). Random restarts. Freezing. It was crazy. I had to upgrade the RUU for it to stay on properly. Was really weird.
There are so many threads about rooting for warrantee purposes, perhaps search them or go through thier instructions, cause I'm sure someone may have had the same issue.
Wish I could help you though.

Now this is the second time I bring it to assistence (last time was for vol down) and when they give it back to me it was updated to froyo.
I'm facing problem with 1.15=>1.21 OTA, installation is aborted due to status 7 (if some one can help I'll post the full error message).
Unfortunetly the ruu I've used is the only one from my carrier.
Will they know that my phone was updated by them and I'll lose my warranty?
Any idea about fixing status 7?
Many thanks.

RUU 110 error help

I had friends alpharev hboot RUU 1.8 r2 CM7 CM7 r2 installed the system has failed to establish when it comes hboot trying to open because of the HTC says the phone will not turn on the four corners bootloadder exclamation comes only allows you to install RUU ondada error occurs when installing the system please help
I'm not joking when I say I answer this question every day. It's not a dig at you in particular but why don't people get this?
The cm7 r2 partition is too small for a stock Rom. Also the hboot has write protection on it. You must flash the downgrade.img from the alpharev website in fastboot mode (from off, back+power) using fastboot commands THEN RUU
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
So, if you have already made the mistake of running the RUU first and gotten the error 110, can you still just go flash the downgrade.img and then RUU again or do you have to take stronger messures in hand to fix your mistake?
Edit: my friend made the mistake, which means i dont have the device on hand so i can see if thats even possible..
Yes you can, due to the fact that you are still S-OFF because the r2 Hboots by alpharev have an overwrite protection against RUU or OTA.
Yes you can. The only thing is the fastboot screen looks like 4 !!!! instead of the text it usually has, but it still functions
Do not have an opportunity to show a way to fix you happy
How about CWM? Would you be able to access that or has it been replaced or broken in some way?
(you might be able to read between the lines, that I dont know much about this stuff)
No, everything has gone except hboot. Fastboot flash downgrade.img then RUU is the ONLY fix
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda premium
Thx m8's, really appreciate it, I've gone ahead and thumbed all your posts up
4 fastboot commands work well with an exclamation point on the screen is by HTC so I can do with downgrade.img and fastboot commands will open the RUU bootloader then yeah
So, my friend claims he got fastboot working and flashed the downgrader.img only to get a bootloader error 140 when running the RUU. Atm im trying to get him to use an RUU reported to work here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857245&highlight=140. Plz let me know if this is not the right approach.
It just means the RUU he has has too old a hboot version. What RUU is it?

Once you have the downgrade.img flast via fastboot, Maybe the htcdev.com android 2.3 RUU will work as it is unbranded. It works for most branded devices, but I dont know for sure if your Carrier in your location is covered.
The RUU is here:

Go there, tick the agree box and proceed. Try to flash that (ONLY after flashing downgrade.img) and see what happens.

no, nothing happens
what error does 2.29 WWE RUU give you?
No, you need S-OFF only for advanced playing with your device. A normal, so called stock device should work with S-ON.
What does happen, when you try to install the RUU? What king of OS do you use? Is there a error message? Did you ever try to access an android via adb or fastboot?
I had this problem. Use a PB99IMG.zip file, extract it and fastboot flash the hboot, the reboot-bootloader,then flash system.img and boot.img (in that order). Then fastboot oem boot and if it boots execute the android 2.3 upgrade zip from htcdev.com

[Q] Wildchild Issues, please help a new user

Dear everyone,

RADIO-7.46.36.14M
Apr 8 2011, 17:45:10

Software number: 1.36.666.5
Model: PG7611000
I was tempted to try the legendary Wildchild but couldn't reboot it to recovery mode with a properly prepared sd card.
Then I thought perhaps I still needed to unlock the bootloader. I went to the htcdev site and followed the steps.
I chose the right version RUU for the Bell 1.36.666.5 but an error notice said model ID was wrong.
I also tried to get the token ID. it failed for sure "Command error" so can't get the Token ID
When I tried the Wildfire_S_All-In-One_Kit_v1.0. The same thing happened: "Command error"!
Yes, the HTC SYNC was uninstalled. The debugging was on.
I didn't want to bother others until I had tried everything I could think of.
With no knowledge on android, I have spent 10 hours struggling with different approaches found online. Need some help now.
What procedure should I follow for my phone if I want to use Wildchild?
Thank you!

Dear everyone,
My phone is a device originally from Bell Canada. The specs are
Marvel PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.90.0000
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.36.14M
Apr 8 2011, 17:45:10
Android v. 2.3.3

Thank you so much, Sir.
I followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533639 here and applied that recovery file but nothing happened. I still get the wrong model ID message. Then I rebooted the phone and found out the HBOOT was not changed.
So far there seemed to me two solutions on the forum.
One is to update the HBOOT to an unlockable higher version then update the RUU and get it unlocked again. Or do some trick with something like ROM 1, which I have no idea how to get access to.
Extract the rom1.zip from the RUU, copy it to the root of the phone micro-sd card, rename it as PG76IMG and turn off the phone. Pull the battery out and reinsert it. Hold the volume down key and press the power on. It should boot into the bootloader. Then it will ask if you would like to update radiov2, choose yes and after reboot, you should be s-off...

Oh... I think I make a mistake. That's for s-off only. For flashing the wildchild ROM, you need to install a recovery other than the stock recovery (e.g. CWM recovery). And then root your device. Then you could install the ROM from the CWM recovery.

I got the WC3 on my phone with ROM 2 and ROM 1 -tried both but the "unlocked" pink line is now above the specs. I tried the RUU program. It says "model ID error" again... WC works now but how can i "unlock" it? btw, the phone is still s-off but locked.
I think because it is "unlocked" so LinkSD doesn't work. It says ext2 may not be supported by your device. Try FAT32". What is wrong? I followed the WC3 instruction created by the developer - 1 FAT, 1 EXT2 and 1 SWAP. Another problem I have is after move 1 apps to the SD card. It is full. I have a 4 G card with 1.2 FAT32, 512 Swap and the rest is EXT2.
