[Q] Bad signal reception - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I bought a HTC Wildfire second hand with a broken digitizer (so it was a bit cheaper than regular). I used it a few times with the broken digitizer and had a dropping signal or text messages that error "message not sent"....
I opened it up and changed the digitizer , while losing the lower part of the casing (that little plastic rectangle that sits at the bottom and has apparently no use I think). I then used the phone for a few days and the issues seemed to have disappeared, but I didn't use it a lot during that period so it could just have been a coincidence.
I then rooted using revolutionary and put the CyanogenMod on it and now the phone really sucks balls. Half of my messages I have to send twice because first time they are 'not sent'. Sometimes when I try to call it goes well, but sometimes the phone just waits, no tone and after 15 seconds or so it returns to homescreen after being disconnected. When people try to call me, they can barely hear me or cannot hear me at all.
Do you think this is software related or hardware related? Would it help flashing new radio?
Thanx in advance...
TOm

Try flashing a new radio. The latest one is said to improve on the reception of signals. (The version ending in 20.10). Link can be found in the Wildfire Index Thread linked in my signature
Good Luck

Start Menu Pop Up

The Start menu pops up as and when it feels like it. It normally happens when writing sms. While writing, the start menu just pops up and it's bloody irritating.
I've tried hard reseting without any additional softwares on at least 4 different ROMs from here & the problem still persists. I'm convinced that it's not a hardware problem cos Karmba 7.2 Non-Touch ROM does not have this problem but the ROM is way to heavy which causes the PDA to slow down.
Is anybodyelse facing this problem? Is there a fix or something to this? Appreciate any help & advice i can get. Thank you.
P/s: I don't get this problem on my TyTN II, Dopod 838 Pro & Touch on custom ROMs

Oh sorry....forgot to mention. I'm using the Dopod810.

Well, there has been a number of posts on this known Trinity weakness.
I also experienced quite an irritating behavior as well some time ago.
Look through the threads, you should find them. Personally, I do have the impression that since I use FTouchFlo, it is far better. However, this only is an impression ... not sure it helps,, but at least you should not feel like "I am the only one with this damned f..... thing" !
same problem
I have the same problem on my phone! specially when writing sms with phonepad and no stylus. You are right. It`s unbelivable annoying. the problem seems to dissapear when you are using the stylus and not flabby fingers..
Me 2 :'(
I am also having this problem.
I've noticed that it only happens when i press lightly on the screen, not when i press hard.I Suspect that it is a fault in the digitizer, and somehow it signals to the device that the upper left corner of the screen is pressed.
My suggestion for a possible solve is to write a little program that prevents the user from clicking on the start menu on the screen, by introducing a "non-click" zone where the start menu is on the today screen.
As i allways use the "windows" button i can always access the start menu. This, i think, will prevent this fault from happening.
My only problem is that i don't know how to program native C.
I have not tested my above mentioned theory, but i would wery much like to. So if there is anyone out there that can do this program, i would be very gratefull.
Scann69,
I would hate to make you nervous, but when I encountered the same problem you are havin it was the start of somethign terrible. My Trinity was back and forth from repair for over 6 months!!!
They replaced the screen, it worked for almost 2 days. They replaced the screen AGAIN but when it came back the 'vibrate' function of my poor Trinity didn't work. They then replaced the mainboard and now things appear to have settled down (but i've only had it back for a couple of weeks now).
My suggestion would be send it in for repair. Good Luck

this problem have been there since i bought the phone a year ago. Htc replaced my mainboard around 5 months ago because of some cameraproblems. I think Beebo has a good point about the digitizer. that would surtenly explain why it dont happen to me when i use the stylus. the problem mostly occur when i use my fingers on phonepad while writing sms..
i also got this problem...quite frequent
first, the changed motherboard, nothing solve and still happen quite frequent
second, changed lcd screen, happen less around once a day or 2 days once
i found this problem quite easily by using finger but now even using stylus it also appear....
how u guys solve this problem? got send to service center or just leave it?
Yep this isn't a WM6 issue
Yep it is a Trinity issue
Yep it is a hardware issue, something to do with the LCD screen. Some have said it gets worst if the phone is heated.
You might have seen improvement after installing touchflo because of the increased reaction time to touch.
No I don't know a solution

but this not the way to solve it. this is the trinity's hardware problem. why need us to bear this problem.
what the technician do is change lcd touch screen. it will not solve becoz after a while it will come back. i go to service center until i tired
after monitoring, it still popup at least once a day....
i really don't know how they solve the problem....damn frustrating....
i have this problem too, but only recently.
who gonna be help?
first prob is the start button popping up, next step is that it continually does this and infact will not allow any screen inputs....as in total piece of #$%(ing crap. I have a dopoid d810 in canada , started 2 months into owning the phone , htc will not service it, and pretend like they dont know why this is happening ( there is info all over the net about it, many people think it is the chip that is improperly mounted to the mouther board that controls screen input). AS Dopod has the service contract on this phone htc will not service it for me and of course dopod does not have international warranty. HTC screwed me hard and long.....I have never been so disappointed with a product in my whole life ( even cereal box xray glasses were better than this)
i had this too on my m700, i think it is an issue with the screen mounting, certainly heat and things may well affect it. Possible the casing pushing the top corner of the screen or something.
I had mine replaced by orange.
rjefferis,
what did orange replace for you? touch screen or whole unit pda?

Yes, all you said are right.
the trinity, there are two problem:
one is the LCD mounting, if you touch the LCD slightly, it will push the screen to the corner as click start menu. for the people who met the problem once in few days, it is all right.
the second problem is serious, as you said "worse when heated", that is because a resistant near CPU is designed in wrong place. the problem will happen freqently everyday and worse when phone is hot (cuz the NTR resistant). once it happens, it will get worse and worse till the motherboard breakdown.
i know some people they replace the resistant to fix the motherboard by them self, and they write down all the progress. if some one really handy and insist to fix the problem, i am happy to translate the progress in to WWE
that day i asked staff at service center, they said never occur this problem so far
i asked htc staff(my friend), he said don't know got this problem. seem like htc don't know this problem....

[Q] Calling sound quality problem

Hi everybody
I'm suffering from a sound problem while making calls. Sound in call got buzzes sometimes, seems periodically, means that i can guest when it is muted completely (about 0.5s duration) or when it's like strong wind sound beating at the opposite line's micro. I tested this with a waiting piece of music from a friend (his provider offer a waiting song when people are waiting to get connect to him) and the song got buzzes and muted at exact points.
It's not caused by ROMs, as i change rom almost everyweek and the issue remains constantly.
I did some testing methods relating to sim:
- Put my sim in other handset, sound is good.
- Put other sim in my DHD, sound is bad but with other buzz and muted circles
- Put other provider's sims in my DHD, same stories
So i guess it's not because of sim-card.
I've had this problem for a while, and decide to ask here because i cannot find out a proper solution. My phone has the latest radio.
After clarifying and asking some of my friends, i found this problem is not speaker-related (which i fear the most) but mobile signal-related. The symptom is getting better or worse when i "touch" the two prongs next to the simcard, under the bottom hood. They are the antenna of this phone, right? I tried to raise them a little bit, or lower them a little bit (of course very small changes because these components are tiny and seems fragile) because i heard somebody in XDA told so to improve signal strength or something like that. But the issue only changed (better or worse, hardly to realize), it didn't disappear.
So anyone can give me a suggestion on this case? What do i suppose to do to make call quality better? Because it is annoying really! Have ever imagine a high-end device would provide such a poor service for a basic purpose like this. I often lose information or important points during conversations because of this f***ing issue! Not good at all!
Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone? Anyone can help?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
i had this problem before. Its the hardware. Brought it to HTC 3 times before they exchanged a new set for me
Really? Sounds very badly! Is there any other way to repair, because my handset is rooted and not bought officially from HTC agents so it's a pain to contact with HTC, especially when they appear to be not really helpful like in your case @topucash
well, you can always flash a RUU or restore from your backup of the stock rom. I actually had to request for a 1 to 1 exchange , else i expect myself to visit them forever
Can not really follow you. What did you mean by "else i expect myself to visit them forever"?
And what did HTC tell you about this issue? Did they call them "hardware problem" or something?
Any one can help me please, i'm dying of suffering from this awful issue

The DOA thread (did your 2nd(or more) device improved)?

Ok, so I returned my phone still in DOA period.
My problems were the glitching all over the place, and not just once a day, but it kept on getting worse, youtube, camera, browser, status bar, apps, multitasking, scrolling, keyboard, jumping white line in messages,etc...
Mine also was creaking arround the front camera and part of the corner of the screen there too.
My battery was displayed wrong all the time, so I couldn't see the right %.
Yellow bottom of on the screen.
Games were lagy, Tegra 3 and normal like teeter.
1 dead pixel.
Probably forgetting some problems now.
Somethings will be software, but because I(and most of us) don't know what is software I preffered to send it back before the doa period was over. Also some posters stated htv told them to send it back, witch problems same as mine.
Also if this is software for most of the part, than why isn't everybody getting the problems.
So I made this topic so you can tell what the problem was with your first device, and if you allready had your second (or third, etc) and what improved and what stayed the same... So you can we get a better vision on that.
My first phone arrived yesterday and is getting swapped out by a currier tomorrow for what will then be my second device.
The problems I am having is the jumping/bumping at the bottom of the screen; this is very inconsistant but does happen more often than it doesn't. For instance I was using the phone for 40 mins earlier it was happening, then for 10 mins it wasn't, again it happened for 5/6 mins and then didn't happen for around an hour but again its happening as we speak.
I've also had the problem whereby you can't unlock the device by pulling up the ring, and I have to shut down and startup the phone for this to be fixed. This has only happened twice so far; but again should not happen at all.
Lastly I have had the problem that when you lock the device the screen turns back on, even when you only pressed the lock button once.
I think thats everything... I do believe its software problems more than hardware, however as you have said why isn't this happening to everyone if that's the case. I guess you could look at it that maybe it is but they are either living with it or reporting it direct to where they purchased it from; either way they are not posting it on here. Who knows?
Now I do understand bugs are there in just about every phone and to be honest they are normally bugs you can live with until an update; the problem here is that the bugs are completely preventing the use of the device and/or making the use of the device very difficult. No phone should be released with this being the case.
One thing I do know for sure is that its happening to those who got the phone from a network (mines from Vodafone) and those who got it SIM free; in all areas or the world. This means they (Vodafone, Orange, O2 etc...) have not caused these problems so it eliminates any tweaks/software they may have placed onto the device meaning the problems do entirely lie with HTC to resolve. Lets just hope they do; or more importantly lets just hope its a small number of phones that are affected and that our replacements are okay.
I will let you know tomorrow what the second one is like... (sorry for the long post),
How did u notice a dead pixel
Sent From My HTC sensation (desire with rcmix s )
Phone turning back on after i pressed power button to lock the screen, got that too. But happens at random, so not always.
I saw a very tiny shiny spot when in a complete dark room, on a black background. Dead pixel i suppose.
Im considering getting it online but not sure what to do if i get a dead pixel
Sent From My HTC sensation (desire with rcmix s )
Send mine back because one of the 2 yellow spots didn't go away after 10hrs screen on (5 days) and I had some random restarts.
I don't want a faulty device, some devices will keep giving problems while others have no issues from the start.

You would be able to send it back if you bought it online, just like buying it from a shop. They have to give you the same period of support...

HTC warranty service: yellow spots fixed, new problem introduced

As the title says:
I sent my phone to HTC for a warranty repair of the famous yellow spots on the bottom of the screen.
I received it yesterday. They replaced the display and the problem is gone.
However, for some unknown reason they also changed the "receiver" (I don't know which receiver do they mean exactly). Anyway, cellular reception got extremely worse. In my office where we have a femto-cell and all phones (really all, including my hox before sending it to warranty service) show maximum signal strength (-51dBm), I now get just a decent -71dBm. In areas where I previously had few signal bars I now lose completely the connection (for example my toilet, but you are probably not interested in this detail... ).
I'm asking myself: maybe they made something wrong in attaching properly the antenna. Or perhaps I just had bad luck and I got a faulty "receiver". But in the first place I ask myself why they replaced a (apparently) perfectly working component (never had problems of cellular or WiFi reception).
Well, you probably don't have any answer, but I just wanted to share this story with you.
Today I sent my phone back to them explaining all the details. I hope they solve the problem, because the phone is unusable in these conditions.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm still a very happy HTC fan. I just believe that this time they screwed up something. It can happen. I hope they solve the problem and fast, because I can't resist other weeks with my old but beloved desire.

After motherboard replacement, constant signal drops

Hey guys,
I have a 5X that recently had a bootloop. The motherboard was swapped out using a donor phone. The phone is happy now with the exception of constant signal drops. I'm currently running 7.1.2 Pure Nexus rom however this issue was happening on stock 7.1.1 and after a 8.0 update (I reverted back to 7.1.2). The phone will behave normally then out of the blue the single strength indicator triangle is displays empty with an outlined triangle vs the traditional filled. I have no data and no cellular service. The only way I can get service back is after a reboot. Sometimes service will last 10 min, other times 4 hours. When I do have service its significantly weaker than typical, ~ -110. Is there some sort of hardware handshake that needs fixing? Would flashing a different radio be worthwhile? Wifi works fine and never cuts out. Any help would be most appreciated as this is very frustrating! Thanks in advance.

you can flash any roms with your repaired phone?
how did you that??
does your bootloader the "no RPMB" message?

I'm not sure I understand the question. After swapping, the device behaves like a new phone. I was able to install TWRP, unlock bootloader, root etc. I do not receive any error about "no RPMB".
weird... I'm a little confused.
I read in many different forums that the repaired Nexus5x can no longer be rooted.
I have tried it with mine several times already unsuccessfully.
When you start the bootloader you see the message (no RPMB)
Maybe somebody has a solution for this?

Depends on who does it. LG UK replaced my motherboard last month. After repair, I was able to root it as easily as I did when I first got the phone.
my phone was at lg german
for over 2 weeks I am looking for a solution
Mine was not sent to a repair facility, I was fortunate to have a donor. Thread has slightly gotten off topic. Any thoughts to flashing another radio? Are some OS better suited for specific radios? Is there a way to verify which radio is most compatible with my OS / rom?
When I got my 5x repaired (motherboard replacement with brand new manufactured at 7/8/17) I can root my phone, unlocking bootloader etc.
Hi jstein84, I've the same identical problem (motherboard replacement after bootloop, and now intermittent signal and very poor reception, often -110dB)... Did you find any solution?

Could it be that something wasn't reattached correctly by the repairer?
In my case, the phone was perfect for 2-3 months after the replacement (never dropped, never got water in this period). Now, since one week, it started issuing this new problem, which seems to be very common after screen or mb replacement in the 5X. Very poor signal, with every SIM card I tried (it happened after I used the wifi hotspot, but no sure it matters). I've tried resetting network settings and hard resetting the phone, nothing changed. I've also tried to check the speaker component inside the rear case (where there are the antennas). It seems ok, I just noticed that if I cover the bottom left right corner of the phone, the signal totally disappears immediately. I'm getting crazy with this problem...

You might try flashing the stock firmware with fastboot. I had a similar issue with bluetooth randomly cutting out. After flashing the stock firmware bluetooth now works without issue. I can't tell you why it fixed it because it shouldn't have made a difference, but maybe something got corrupted. Worth a try.

I'm glad to see this post is getting some new activity. To answer Sebastian's question, my phone seems better but still not great. I seem to have better coverage but I noticed that if I enter a complete dead zone, I get the hollow triangle, and the phone is not able to get service again until a reboot. This is after returning to a known service area. I have received numerous ota updates since my original post so I'm not sure if that's the cause. I had also tried flashing new radios a few months ago but to no avail. I personally believe that its a hardware issue but I have no way to verify that. I'm glad Im not the only one and I hope this helps out somebody. If nothing else its validation that you're not alone.
