Sorry for not posting the solution, for the solution, I will post it now.
Problem:
My S-OFF and rooted Desire worked fine with different Sense 2.1+3.0 ROM's. Then I wanted to try out a fully Sense 3.0 ROM - this worked fine (despite that it killed my cam + flash), but I found it a bit slow on my Desire, so I wanted to restore a backed up ROM. After the restore, my Desire keeps booting into the ROM, stays at the home screen for 1-5 seconds, and then reboots. This cycle goes on untill the battery is empty. I also tried to install ROM's from scratch with full wipe, but the outcome is the same as above.
Solution:
I installed the official Stock RUU ROM and then it works again, I even rooted it and also run the Alpha Rev to make it S-OFF. All this without any problems...or that is almost without any problems, because my cam + flash are still not working..!
New problem
After this I of course tried to install new ROM's again, but this doesn't work any more, the the initial Issue with rebooting reappears.
Maybe instead of just writing solved, leave the problem there and add your solution for other users that might encounter the same problem.

I know at least two of us here have this problem. With me it happens nearly every other reboot, when I boot to recovery or when I boot the phone. It just sticks at white HTC screen forever and I have to pull the battery.
It is more of an anoyyance than anything however I suppose it could be dangerous if it happened during radio update. Anyone else have the problem or some insight into what causes it?
I know mine started doing it before I even flashed a permanent recovery so that's not the problem.
Thanks.

I had this problem, but only on vanilla FroYo roms. It annoyed me and stopped a friend from getting one (even after a lengthy conversation about it being me rooting and the rom) but on sense no such problems.
Now on CM6 and I don't get the problem. So I myself have narrowed it down to vanilla FroYo.

I'm on cm6 and get it all the time. Had it on defrost too.
I'm using LeeDroids v1.3a sense Rom and I've never had a hang. To be honest I've never had froyo run this smoothly on any other Rom before. I've rebooted about 10 times and its fast and swift, with no hangs.

Defrost was the worst due it with me. Every other boot (if I was lucky!) would end up in a boot loop.

i think its to do with your ext not mounting so then it hangs. I had this issue on OD 1.6 and AdamG's Sense but it got sorted when I used Defrost's a2sd script.
Is there some sort of log i can pull to see what is going wrong when it hangs?
Any ideas on how to diagnose what is going wrong on boot?
I don't know if I understand what is the real problem, i'm spanish.
I understand that some ROM's are not booting well doing a bootloop. With my Desire I haven't got this issue but on my cousin Desire this problem occured with a ROM that are working well for me with same conditions and tested also with same SD card.
I try this:
Apply the PB99IMG.zip based on 1.23 from Virgin Mobile and working correctly.
Wipe from recovery, and bootloop.
Apply again de PB99IMG.zip
Flash a rooted version of this ROM without wipe, device boot well and its rooted.
I try to flash the MDC r5 Froyo with Sense and same problem ocurre but can't boot with or without wipe.
Having trouble with the latest LeeDroid HD ROM have flashed many LeeDroid roms before without issue but for some reason aftering clearing all caches and running the latest rom it will install ok but on reboot it just hangs on the White HTC screen and won't boot in.
Any Ideas what could be causing it?
Currently Running LeeDroid HD v3.0.1, LeeDroid Kernel v3.1.1 radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2
Make sure you're deleting all data do a full factory reset (deletes all data does not actually restore to factory condition) then clear the dalvik cache, re apply the ROM make sure its CLEAN and you haven't modified it, don't apply any themes or anything, then let it boot and be patient.
Try downloading it again also it could be a corrupt download.

I had similar issue few days back. But i had the Leedroid rom (same rom, kernel as urs) already runing flawlessly for a few days. It decided just to hangs at the same HTC Screen... tried to clear caches(all), hard reset, reflash same rom... still stuck same place. I finally had to flash stock 1.32 image, root all over again, etc. ... and flash Leedroid (same) again... works fine now
I got the feeling that I made my friends with their stock DHD and Iphone users drooling and jealous of my phone(csutomised with sense 3.0 stuffs), and they collectively jinxed my phone, and had this crash! lolz
btw. i flashed SAME rom i had on my sdcard, so I think the rom fine(mine at least). just something triggered that crash!
all the best...
Yea i tried reflashing from stock rom the other day loaded up one of the RUU exe's and rerooted etc and tried to reflash with no luck so i'm all out of ideas

Have also done factory reset and cleared dalvik cache etc. no joy
Just managed to find a copy of LeeDroid HD V3.0.2 have installed and found it also crashes but.... it gets to the LeeDroid Android screen, little further but unfortunately still crashes
Managed to get 3.0.3 working on my DHD turns out it was just down the cwm version i had, updated to 3.0.2.5 and boom worked first time =D only problem i have had with both 3.0.1 and 3.0.3 is the camera keeps dropping out, app doesn't force close but the screen keeps going black and all buttons dissapear then all comes back... =( Atleast i'm up to date though
Any Idea's on the Cam issue?
have run logcat and noticed the following in the log
W/mm-camera( 1400): config_proc_CAMERA_STOP_SNAPSHOT: state is not correct ctrl->state = 25 W/mm-camera( 1400): VFE_RESET_ACK illegal ctrl->state 24
dunno if that makes any sense to anyone
tinkered with it a little last night didn't seem to make a difference so left it over night and for some odd reason works fine this morning i think the issue was down the camera app itself but it looks to be working fine now thankfully
UPDATE:
Ok looks like the issue is still there found out what is causing it thought, the camera works fine but...only when wifi is off, if you turn wifi back on you get the same issue as before,
Please anyone got an idea on wtf?
UPDATE2: have worked out it must be the camera app due to the fact i download a different app which appeared to work fine. Not sure why there's a glitch though
Hi guys:
I am really desperate now... my phone only seems to work with the official ROM, everytime I rooted, and installaed a Cooked ROM (GB ROM) very soon (in a minutes of using it) it will hang or freeze or reboot.
I explain all backround:
1. firstable I have my desire working for awhile with many cooked ROM (Froyo), after months, the phone started to reboot everytime, so I have sent it to the SAT, and they changed the motherboard. and give it back to me.
- The new motherboard is
PVT4
HBOOT 0.93
MicroO 0,51d
2. I rooted it OK (using unrevoke methos)
3. Flashed a cooked ROM => then is when the problem starts, everything after falshing is OK, but after a few time of usage with the cooked ROM, then the phones starts to freezes randomly.
some further info:
- tried with Neophyte ROMs Reflez 2.0.9,2.1.0...2.1.6 => same issue
- tried with LeeDrOiD V2.5.0 FINAL | 28th May l Official => same issue
- tried with LeeDrOiD GB 3.0.6 => same issue
if I go back into the offical ROM (by unrroting method) using the "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_Vodafone_UK_2.33.161.2_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed" => Issue is NOT reproduced!
- In all cases, I did try to keep ONLY apps coming from the flasehd ROMs, to make sure any app is causing the issue.
- I have tried using another miniSDcard (8GB class 4) => same issue!
Is it anything wrong with the new motherboard?
Is there anyway to check logs or trace why is freezing?
Any clue?
Thanks for your advise!
best
SCesarin
(please don't advise me to keep using the official bored ROM)
No body give me a clue or help on this?
Please

I have the same problem. I have noticed that most times my desire freezes when I download something over mobile network. So maybe the problem is in A2SD? I'm going to try with Cool Kingdom Rom, because I already have EXT4 Partition.

Thanks a lot Deivino for your comments.
Please keep me posted about what happens with your "Cool K. ROM"
hope your issue is gone then.
Mine still present, I can use ONLY the official ROM.

So I had no luck with Cool Rom. It still freezes, but much less now. Also these freezes are very random now, mostly when screen is off. I haven't flashed jet the newest radio and ril, but I don't think it would fix it either. I was thinking about unrooting, but when I did, I got less than 30% battery error with full battery. So I have no idea how to fix it or what is even causing this freezing.
Hi Deivino
Since I've unsuccesfully tried with many cooked ROMs, finally I have decided to take the phone to SAT, which fortunately still on guarantiee.
Let's see what do they find...
good luck with your phone,
best
I managed to unroot my desire and now running official android 2.2 what htc provides and the problem still occurs for me. I don't see no other way but to send it to warranty.
Hi Deivino
I did the same, actually many things unsuccesfully as you see in my first post.
Finally, I sent it to warranty, and they gave me back already a new device!
Now, it works OK.
So, unfortunately, the issue was not fixed at all, either I don't know what caused the issue.

Try cyanogenmod.. it's THE singlemost stable ROM you can install on your phone. Never fails.
I agree.. never had an issue with CyanogenMod ROMs

Hi Guys,
thanks, finally I sent my desire to SAT, and they gave me back a complete new one!
So, with the old one I did all in my hands unsuccesfully as I explained in my first post, so I didn't try CyanogenMod ROMs therefore I will never know if it would works!
Anyway, thanks a lot guy for all your suggestions.

Hi all!
I've been using custom ROMs for a while now, and have always found the answers somewhere on these forums. As a "noob" and thus not being able to post in the development forum, I have to ask this question here. Actually the Desire development forums were the only part I had visited up until now...
Yesterday I installed Runnymede AIO v4.0.1 on my Desire and it's a great ROM. It runs very smoothly and I don't have any problems with it, except when using whatsapp. Whatsapp is... at most times completely unresponsive. It takes at least 30 seconds to open the application when it's running. Then opening the contact takes another 10 seconds and sending or receiving messages is nearly impossible. When the other person is writing a message whatsapp just freezes and I can't even use the onscreen keyboard.
I tried another full wipe, reinstalling whatsapp... but it doesn't make a difference. My question is if someone else has a solution to this problem?
In the Runnymede AIO thread I noticed two other posts describing a similar problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20904609&highlight=whatsapp#post20904609
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20822901&highlight=whatsapp#post20822901
As Whatsapp is very important to me, I would really like to fix this but I'm out of ideas. Later today I will do a nandroid backup of the current ROM and revert to my previous nandroid backup of Insertcoin v1.1.4 until there is a fix. Never had these problems with whatsapp before...
FYI: Running first type Desire GSM (bravo) with amoled, PVT1 S-OFF, latest 4Ext recovery, CM7r2 hboot with XD2SDX and 1024 MB ext4 on a 16 GB Class 4 microSD.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Anyone?
i really have no idea.
works like a charm for me.
uninstall the app then re-install it.or you could try clearing the apps cache first ..or try unchecking hboot some apps dont like it ..
edit you could also try looking here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764163
Thanks for your input.
Today I took the time to wipe everything again and installed v5.1 SE.
Installed Whatsapp from Market and had it import the previous messages. Everything seemed fine and it was working ok for about half an hour. Then the same problems as before started to appear. First typing was slow, then whatsapp became unresponsive and eventually I just gave up trying to even use it.
Nandroid backupped everything and went back to IC 1.1.4 again...
By unchecking hboot, do you mean unchecking fastboot?
I haven't tried that yet, but will tonight. Right now I just really need whatsapp to work properly
I have the same problem. Response is very slow only with whatsapp but once I Clear all the convers it works fine. When I get alot of msgs it gets slower and slowe until it gets very difficults to use.
My device is desire hd with the same room.
Hi xda community, this is my first post here, although im am following the forums for a while now. I have also read similar threads, and googled for about 3 hours now, and still couldnt fix the following issue:
I installed CM7.1.0.1 on the standard HTC Wildfire, and the GPS doesnt work. the radio version was 3.35.20.10, and I downgraded it to 3.35.19.25 but still nothing. problem is i cant get the signal, and there is no satellite icon on the status bar. like nothing is happening. I reverted the radio to 3.35.20.10 but still nothing. what do you recommend? are there any special methods to fix the issue? I did it by downgrading the recovery to 2.0.5 or something and then istalled the zip from the sd card.
edit1: downloaded GPS Test (i am not advertising, some1 might find it useful) and got the icon on the status bar. ill go and test it, and will update the post.
edit2: seems to work, found 7 satellites in 3 seconds with GPS Test. turned off wi-fi, started a popular navi app, locked signal after few seconds. maybe ill set it to solved?
Long story short:
Downgraded Radio
Upgraded Radio
Downloaded and started GPS Test, outside
Found satellites, icon is also there
started a navi app, locked signal
Same problem, still no solution though...
I had, still have the same issue. And I have already tried all that you have done in vain...
Any one else had that issue?
Thanks
Flash a sense based rom, turn on GPS, open Google maps and leave it to get a good fix. Without changing anything pop out the battery and then reboot to recovery and either restore a Cm7 backup or flash the rom again.

Thanks. Trying that now...will edit after.
EDIT: Can't find a proper Sense based ROM. Tried REMPuzzzle but phone stuck on HTC Screen. Downloading DK CustomROM now... If anyone knows whether there is a safe flash Stock ROM around, please do tell. The link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275680 is dead.
FINAL EDIT
@saadislam and @LucidSomnia: I know, but when I said it takes time, I meant like over 2.5 hours, I think there might have been something wrong in the zip file.
Anyways thank you for all of you there in XDA Community for your support. I finally managed to sort it out by using Scratch0805's advice above and it works fine now.
**The only issue I got was to find a Sense-based ROM. Everything I tried either had an error, could not install, corrupted or took TOOOO LOOOONG to load. So here are the steps I have taken:
1. I used RUU to start over with a Stock ROM. [ available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275680&highlight=rom ]
2. Re-root [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 and/or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365159&highlight=rooting+guide ]
3. Flash new Radio (20.10) since rooting goes back to 19.25 or 15.35.
4. Install and run GPS Test (on the Stock ROM)
5. Allow it to lock on couple of satellites.
6. Pop the battery out.
7. Boot into Recovery.
8. Use a Nandroid backup (or you could install a fresh one)
9. Enjoy GPS Working again!!!
Thank you again XDA Community!
Are you sure the radio was reflashed... I am saying this because when I tried to flash radio via recovery, it completed and I reboot.. but Gps wasn't fixed.. I rechecked the radio version but it was the older one so basically radio wasn't flashed...
So I went on to flash via flashboot.. this time all process was completed and Gps worked fine afterwards...
Radio version 20.10 is the one which has always worked for me...
And one thing more.. Rempuzzle Rom takes time to load first time...

That happens to all roms because dalvik cache has to be rebuild.
