[Q] i need help ASAP!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok i rooted my bros evo with revolutionary...i flashed superuser and amon recovery...so when i flashed synergy RSL1 i had a bunch of forclosures appear at the home screen to the point where i could not do anything but force forclose and it would jus keep re appearing so i went back to recovery n wiped everything and not im stuck at the bootloader n my dumbass forgot to back up the previous rom so now idk what to do...i need some help

Reflashed the rom and always do a nandroid backup when you change roms . Just in case something happens and you can go back to. Also to stop the foreclosures you can flash a kernal sometimes that evens out all the bugs and helps the battery life. But I had a lot of problems with that rom so I switched.

You don't know until you try. And if it doesn't work you can turn off the phone and take out your sd card put it into a sd adapter and put another rom on it again. I think it downloaded properly because you wouldn't be able to use your phone if the whole rom wasn't downloaded right.

No problem ...Yea sometimes you just have to reflash the rom a few times to get the bugs out.

Since you have Amon Ra, boot to recovery, click on USB Toggle, and your phone will connect to your computer so you transfer files back and forth.
Just wipe everything and flash a different ROM. Try MikG

rooted evo

I just rooted my EVO the other day and so far I really like it i would like to tinker with it more by adding roms and kernels but I don't know how to do it I would like to speed up my phone and remove any lag if possible if anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it by the way I have the EVO
There are videos available that show how to do this step by step. You can google "how to flash custom rom evo" and you'll find the results.
Quick summary:
Download the ROM you want and copy to SD card
Nandroid backup through your recovery image
Wipe Data and Dalvik Cache in recovery image
Flash/Install Custom ROM through recovery image
Thanks imma have to check out the videos because I have no idea how to do any of that stuff other then putting it on my SD card lol
I have a friend that has the new galaxy s phone from t-mobile and he told me he has his overclocked at over 2100 do you know of any Rom for the EVO to do that the most I seen gives it about 1250

I don't know how accurate that 2100 number is as I don't know anything about that phone, but that number sounds extremely exaggerated. To overclock the Evo that number, you would be asking the processor to more than double it's rated workload, and it would make the phone very unstable, at best. I've never gone higher than 1190 on mine, and I actually got lower quandrant scores on 1190 than I did at 1152.
I used unrevoked to root my phone and I am curious to know if my nand is lock or unlock is there a way to tell
Ok so I had to jump in on this . The itch to root is getting to much and I know Im gonna do it before to long . The only concerns I have with the process is as follows .
1. I understand that the Unrevoked 3.21 roots the phone and installs a recovery. This recovery creates a "Restore point" of how the phone sits currently ? So if I flashed a rom I didnt like I could essentially restore the phone back to 2.2 with all radio updates and so forth that are included as its sits right ?
2. I have read a thread on Xda about unrooting the phone if you choose to do so . Does Unrevoked 3.21 provide that option ? Or is it gonna be a stand alone process ?
I guess out of all the questions I have 1. is the most important for me . The recovery puts the image (if it makes a restore point) on your SD card or does it put it on your computer ? I guess getting to the real point . If I stick my butt out there and get lost(flashing roms and kernels) I always got the magic button to bring me home . LOL

Hold volume down while you power your phone up. It will boot into the bootloader and you can tell from there. Look at the very top line if text. If it says S-OFF then you are nand unlocked.

A custom recovery like RA or Clockwork allows you to create full system backups called nandroids that will revert your phone back to the exact state it was in when you made the backup. This is not an automatic process, you need to initiate it manually. I make a nandroid backup before I do ANYTHING to the phone, including but not limited to flashing kernels and ROMs. It puts the nandroid on your SD card, but I always copy them to my computer and organize them based on ROM and date. When you want to do a restore, just put it back on your SD card and run the restore from recovery. It needs to be in the nandroid folder for recovery to recognize it.

It is a standalone process. If you used Unrevoked forever you need to use their S-ON tool and then run a stock RUU or flash a stock PC36IMG file. It's not a native function of any of the root methods.

Once you get the hang of everything, you're going to be very glad that you decided to root. It really opens up a whole new world and experience. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, I'm always happy to help.
Well its offical , I am now part of the rooted clan . First Android phone and first time rooting . Thanks unrevoked for a painless route (I will be donating as soon as I get my next paycheck) , Thanks MetalHead for answering the few questions more or less holding me back . I started out with Bakedsnack 1.7 and flashed that . From what I read I wiped everything twice (might be overkill but rather be safe then sorry) . When smooth as butter . Also did the backup prior to flashing anything . Everything is saved on the harddrive and even a cd backup (Yeah I like having my bases covered) LOL . Other than that this phone is a completely different creature with baked snack (thanks for the software awesome work) . Also thanks to everyone that posts on the forums , alot of info to wade through but well worth it . My advice to anyone rooting for the first time . Read , read , read , reread again , watch videos and plan ahead . It might not go well . Something might screw up but if you plan ahead your good to go . (Starts up GIJOE theme song) LOL
out of curiousity how customizable is the stock rom ima little gunshy when it comes to flashing custom roms lol

What is it you want to do to your phone? With a rooted stock ROM you can still delete all the pre-loaded bloatware, flash a custom kernel (A MUST!) and you can change the look with different launchers. Don't be afraid to flash a custom ROM though, it is by no means a difficult task.
Got another two questions .
1. I have Baked Snack rom and kernel right now . If I expierence an issue with this I can just flash the baked Snack zip from the SD card (after I do a data / cach wipe) and this will more or less be a "restore" for Baked Snack ?
2.If I want to restore back to Froyo 2.2 rooted. I just go into bootloader and select recovery and it will pull the backed up version I stored on the sd card before I flashed Baked Snack , correct ?
Im sure I will think of other questions as I get deeper into rooting LOL
Hello all. So I've been reading your thread and I am rooted (using one of the nightly builds of unrevoked 3) I have S-Off, Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1. Here is my problem, using RomManager Prem, I cannot install CM6 for the life of me! I've wiped, did a nandroid..etc. Is this not the most effective way to flash a rom?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I've had to do that more than once. For serious issues, it can't hurt to do a full wipe, reflash the ROM and then restore with Titanium.

If you're talking about a nandroid backup, then yes, that's one way to do it. What I would do is restore your nandroid, wipe data, restore with Titanium Backup. You probably don't need to wipe, but it can never hurt.

Do you have the ENG HBOOT? It is my understanding that CM6 requires you to have it. If you rooted with Unrevoked, then chances are this is your problem. Here's a link to a thread that will help you.

As for Baked Snack , When I first flashed it battery life was "eh" . After setting up the phone the way I had mine previously and ran the profile update . Shut down charge to full and fired it back up . Battery life was much better over stock . Granted I don't push my phone hard so your mileage might vary . I feel this phone gets most of its battery life when its idle . In stock form the battery would still drain during idle , this is after every app had been pulled and just running 3G and GPS . Same setup on Baked Snack showed better life during idle . To be honest it feels faster then stock form so you might find yourself messing with the phone alot more then normal at first . So give it time and battery life will level out for ya .

This phone is the only phone I really have so without it Im dead in the water LOL . Although I suppose my work cellphone could "Accidently" end up home if something bad happens

rooted ,sd bad now what

K, guys dont kill me here. Im rooted, charge my phone all last night. woke up, turned on phone and it went thru a neverending reboot. pulled batterey same thing, wiped dalvik and cache , and now it doesnt recognize my sd,no errors just doesnt know its there . put sd in laptop and it doesnt recognize it either.
What do i do , titanium wont load, rom manager wants clockworld back on. and im stuck on myn's with no orginal nandroid . PLEASE HELP
sorry for asking the obvious, but do you/have you tried a different SD card?

Looks like your SD went bad, just find and flash a stock rooted rom if you want to keep a stock. You can try using software on pc to see if you can recover your data.
so got a new card put myn bank on . I guess I learned that i should back up anything on my sd to my laptop. stupid sandisk , second 16gb ive been thru ,it gets hot and and fries out. GAAAWWW

[Q] Flashed nightly Mod7 build7 for my EVO4g HELP

Please be nice to me.....I am a newbie, very bold and out of the box and living dangerous with this rooting and ROM flashing. I am addicted but do not know a lot. I am not techno stupid but I get excited and dont think sometimes (was before I took my A.D.D. meds so I was being impulsive) anyhow for some stupid reason I didnt run a nandroid backup. I have a backup but for some reason it wont boot to it. What happened was after flashing 7 the other day, I loved it but market kept force closing all my apps and I couldnt figure it out so I restored back to mod6. was up all night playing around trying to learn all this lingo blingo ROM crudola...........anyhow saw the 7nightly so I flashed it while driving to work (bet yall think im really dumb now) LOL and it boots and gets to the Android screen where it says touch the Android to begin......NOTHING HAPPENS. Rebooted 3 times no worky. So I figure well go back to Mod6 and have a phone until 7 is stable. Cant do that so Im not sure what to do now. I tried flashing a Full Mod6 but to no worky I am at a LOSS. Figured I would ask the experts to please help with ideas. Hugs from Texas girl
Currently backing up my SD card in case I need to.
Have you been wiping in-between flashes? If not:
1. get into recovery
2. wipe everything except battery and rotate stats. Wipe it all again.
3. Flash the Rom of your choice.
4. ???
5. Profit (hopefully)

Btw cm7 nightlys #7 is working fine I have no issues other than I think I might be having radio issues but that has nothing todo with cm7.
First you have to wipe and partition all data on your phone inrecovery mode. Cache dalve calche and do a full system wipe. Get yourself one of those minisd to sd card adapters to format your sd. Erase all data by formatting the sd the copy and paste your working rom zip back on the sd. Put it back in your fone and reboot into recovery. From there id do one more factory reset just to be sure then flash the zip. You should be good. Sounds to me you flashed to many roms on top of eachother without wiping prior installments.
Omg thanks
Wiping Data was the ticket.......DUH to me! you guys are awesome. Im in and just logged in and setting it up now. EXCITED!

[Q] Please help SOLVE THIS ISSUE!!!!!!!! EVO 4G

Alright..........I change roms quite often on my EVO 4G. But once I zipped the UNleashed rom, things started to head down hill!!! I was getting force-closes out the ass! So I tried to change roms to solve the problem. I then went to the new Myn's Z rom, nothing was better. So I zipped the ELITE rom came, and I couldnt even open my market!! Plus a few other things. So then i zipped the 1.3.4 MIUI rom.....smh......and I kept getting a "android.process.acore" force-close REPEATEDLY!!!! I couldnt do ANYTHING without it popping up!! So I zipped and went back to Myn's Warm2point2 which is where i was before all this! And NOW.....my "PHONE" and my "PEOPLE" are ERASED from the phone!!! I CANT connect the phone to a computer using the USB!!!! And HTC sense and anything related to it is ERASED from the phone completely!!!..........did I mention I have NO NANDROID BACKUP!?!? I cant make calls, recieve calls, make texts, recieve texts, view my contacts, view my call log.....ANYTHING!!! So.......................................A SOLUTION PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
try to wipe all data and cache in recovery mode....
Im doing that as we speak!! Hope it works.......smh
What he said.....same thing happened to me and doing that (read above) solved my issue.
On a second note....I've edited your post's title....don't offer money unless you are willing to pay up.....for example...you owe the guy above me $1000...do you plan to pay him? Or even worst...now you owe me $1000....soooo
Cheers,
M_T_M
Wouldnt have a problem with it, but I see you point! But....that still didnt solve the issue!! :-/
Where is moderator when he needed.
take the battery out for three to five minutes...replace it and turn phone on CWR....clear data and cache (hoping you did a backup) and the reboot...it should fix it.

Dude.
RUU
start over.
First thing is to calm down. Sounds like things are messed up probably from flashing so many different things and not doing it properly.
If you don't want to flash back to stock, try this. Shut your phone down and yank your sd card. If you read it directly from the computer does it seem to work ok? If not, your sd card could be borked. If it pulls up ok, format it. Then, put back in your phone and boot into recovery. Wipe everything. Then, try to mount your card via recovery usb mount. If it still doesn't mount, then post back. If it does, move the rom you want onto the card and flash it. Then, go from there and see how things turn out.

I think you lost your files, so next time make a back-up.
To do a clean install of stock follow the next guide:

I'm assuming you're able to get into fastboot-mode.

The only way to back-up ROM's is trough a recovery mod like clockwork. To back-up your apps and their settings use Titanium Back-up.
