Hey guys, it's been a while since I set foot in here and am behind on all the latest ROMs. I browsed the first few pages of development and perhaps I missed it but I'm looking for a ROM that is based off the official 2.3 build, but has Sense stripped out of it, so it still has working 4G but none of that crappy Sense bloat. I know there was a froyo ROM like that (Vael or Mik perhaps?) but I want to make the upgrade to Gingerbread. Been running MIUI forever and want to try something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA.
Not sure exactly what you asking for. Is it supposed to not be based on sense at all? If so go with OMFGB you can Google it and find it. I'm not trying to look for a link right now. I've run it and its a great 2.3 build based on Vanilla. I don't run it because I like sense 2.1 which is in the Ginger ale rom

Sense 2.1/3.0 is not the same as Sense 1.0.
You should give it a shot. With the GB added in, it's really pretty nice.
I really am not interested in Sense at all. I am a LauncherPro guy so having Sense on it is pointless. What I am interested in is a ROM based off the official OTA that has all the Sense elements stripped out of it. Still uses a Sense kernel, still has 4G, but has no Sense. I did a little research and the Froyo equivalent was VaelPak, but it doesn't look like he has a GB build yet.

Yea try out OMFGB if you don't want sense. It meets all your requirements in the rom , although Hipkat is right, sense 2.1/3.0 it nothing like sense 1.0.

Just looked into it, still isn't quite what I am looking for. It doesn't look like what I want is currently available. Might go with SalvageMod, I've heard good things about it.
I don't think there are any 'senseless' roms of the OTA out yet. Also just for tossing ideas, if you want to try CM7, its on android 2.3.4 now, and with the Tiamat kernel, epic win. Also good seeing ya. And you, leave MIUI??? The Rapture is upon us.

Hey bud! Long time! No rapture yet, Mr. Camping postponed that till October now Haha yeah, I think I'm done with MIUI finally. I really want to take advantage of 4G to tether my iPad 2, and for some reason MIUI has been giving me nothing but problems lately. I really only want to do this once, so I was hoping for a senseless ROM because I'm sure they will be more stable than other GB/AOSP ROMs. Just don't want any more issues. How stable is CM7 now?
Hey do you know if the sense removal scripts work with the latest OTA? I might just do that and call it a day.

What is the difference between what you are looking for and just installing launcher pro? Then just use TB or root explorer and delete all the sense crap you don't want like all the widgets and such.

Well there's much more to sense than just the launcher and widgets. It is very deeply ingrained in the ROM. Deleting all that crap is the next best thing, but not ideal for what I want.
Teh_Roxxors is gonna laugh here, but I just made a last minute executive decision to update to the latest MIUI instead. I was just on stock GB Sense for a few minutes, and besides it being completely unbearable, I STILL have no 4G by my house. So, screw it. MIUI GB it is.

Just because I don't want to deal with stability issues. Every time I flashed CM, I always had reboots regardless of the kernel, same thing with Ultimate Droid. The only AOSP ROM that was ever good to me was MIUI, but even that started to crap out towards the end. I am not as flash happy as I once was, the last ROM I flashed was MIUI 1.1.28 and it was beautiful for a while but lately it had been crapping out ridiculously. I figure if the ROM was Sense based, I wouldn't have those issues. No matter though, I just flashed the latest MIUI GB build and it seems pretty good. It's gorgeous, they have definitely come a long way since 1.1.28, and I think it's going to be pretty stable for me. Though, only time will tell.
Ok well I have been using Chingy's Incredibly Re-engineered rom since I rooted my phone. But, seeing as how it's looking dead for the moment and I have not been on here stalking roms in a long time. Anyone got any advice on some roms that are similar that might be worth checking out?
New to roots optomized hybrid 2.1. (Think thats what its called) stlynergy rom nightlies are also stable. Im back and forth between them and OMFGB nightlies
Where's ma rosie at?
newtoroot's Optimized Shift is awesome. Perfect for daily use.
Aaawww ive got to upgrade to the new sense ><
newtoroot just put out hybrid 1.8. My new favorite. Slicker than Optimized Shift (hopefully as stable... time will tell).
Thats actually what I am using right now. It's overwhelming me haha. Any mods for it yet?
JoelZ has an incredibly (get it) stable Sense 3.0 ROM.
I use ADW instead of the stock Sense launcher, and with that and Fancy Widgets running I still have more than enough memory free.

I Agree, newtoroot's Optimized Shift Is amazingly fast and stable, and has just enough of the newer sense features buit in to make it worth it. the only problem ive had is wifi ocasionally drops and the EMMC doesnt mount in the stock music player(but you can easily get around that with mixzing or PowerAMP till thats fixed)

haha its funny you said that because that is the ONLY rom for the DINC2 that i know about. But i never could get used to it on my D1 so i don't think i'll start off this new phones hacking career with something I've already seen and didn't particularly like.
Virtuous Unity got an entire week straight on my phone before I went back to flashing again. Amazing ROM.
I think it depends on what you like. If you like sense then go with one of the debloated roms, or other sense roms. I've only loaded cm7 and had to go find some widgets to replace what I lost by leaving sense. It's pretty stable though and has great theme support. I'm not likely to go anywhere else soon.

MIUI is amazing. Best ROM I've ever used (so far).
MIUI has its followers but to me its too iPhone-ish. If you like CM7 or AOSP roms You should check out either OMGB or OMFGB by R2doesinc. Amazingly fast and stable with great battery life.
I just got mine s-off and rooted last night as well, I think for now I'm going to stick with the debloated one (RMK or whatever)for now. From what I can see majority of the custom roms have random problems like data, wifi, mms, gps, and other stuff not working. I'll wait for a little longer till the devs work out the bugs before jumping on them.
I run rmk's GingerSense primarily (stock debloated, although I'm not running the latest patch), but I dualboot it with OMGB as well. Love AOSP, but there's some things I use extensively in the stock firmware.
I went with OMGB since I really like my phone as stock as possible. So far, so good.
I just bought the SGS2, and my girlfriend is getting my old HTC Desire.
She tried it for a week, with Oxygen ROM and while generally happy with it, she was underwhelmed and annoyed with a few of the more obvious warts of stock android 2.3. The crappy dialer and the crappy keyboard, to name a few.
I then installed a lot of GO apps on it, GO Launcher EX, GO Dialer, GO Widget etc.
While these are in some respects better, they have other issues.
I am now considering if a ROM with Sense would be a good compromise for her. I will not give her the latest stock 2.2 ROM from HTC, I want her to have 2.3. So it would have to be a 2.3 ROM with Sense on it. And I don't even know which version of Sense. I have only really worked with the one in the stock 2.2 ROM from HTC. I think it is Sense 1.9?
So, can you guys recommend a 2.3 ROM with Sense or a 2.3 ROM and some good core apps (dialer, keyboard, sms/texting etc.) that is girlfriend-friendly?
Thanks in advance
I'd recommend one with the Sense 3.0.

I would recommend a ROM with Sense 2.1/3.0 (Hybrid) because the Sense 3.5/3.0 ROMs are a bit too much sometimes for the Desire as I read and heard (in case of lags and so).
But Runnymede is recommended very often.
So I would go with Revolution or InsertCoin which I self am using since a few months and i'm quite happy with it.

And I really dont get the point why you always have to bash the other Roms except Supernova's. Supernovas Rom sure is great but there also other good ROMs (even with Sense 3.0/3.5). They are maybe that not stable and so on but the Users also have different preferences. For some eye-candy is the most important feature, for other it is stability and speed.

Not that I don't bash just supernova, I don't bash either of the Sense 1.9 roms, aosp roms, or even roms which are broken and are advertised as such.
And I have no beef with roms or their developers, but with idiots that turn every rom recommendation thread into this. OK, you're free to do whatever you want, but you can't come and write "Sense 3.5/ICS , this, this, this and this doesn't work, but it's perfect".
As far as I'm concerned, the scale goes like this: unusable - bad - average - good - perfect. I hope meaning of perfect is self explanatory?
If the op states that he is giving away his phone, Sense 3.5 roms don't have nothing to look for here. Giving away phone with some of it's features severely limited is insanity.
It is you Sense 3.5 users who mixed up priorities here, not I. If the thread was titled "most eyecandy" rom I'd be silent.

I wasn't giving the OP a recommendation for a Sense 3.0/3.5-ROM, I was recommending him a Hybrid (2.1/3.0). And this I can do with pure conscience because the ROM I'm using right now (InsertCoin) is way faster than the Stock-ROM that was originally on the Desire and i havent experienced anything thats not working yet (no reboots, no failures, ... everything is working fine).
Yeah, maybe the Sense-ROMs you are not bashing are a bit faster than the ISC and Revolution Hybrids but there you have an uglier ui, so you have to balance.
Maybe you should testing a Hybrid for yourself because now you are just assuming things.

I want her to have 2.3, and there is no good official 2.3 ROM from HTC. So I guess I might as well try a girlfriend-friendly 2.3 ROM, preferably one that "just works" and that I don't have to help her with a million times. If you can recommend such a ROM, it would be great.
I agree with you that eye candy is not the most important thing here. Usability and stability is. Unfortunately, stock android have usability issues with simple things such as the dialer and the keyboard. And Android 2.3 is a must.
I will never buy her an iPhone, so that's not an option.

Its a difficult project. it involves getting the ROM work which may involve fixing up the kernel which in turn needs the ROM built correctly to be tested.

There is a thread about this in the Dev section. It's probably fallen to the second or third page by now.
The biggest problem with Sense 3.5 and up stuff is that it's so big. Yes, Sense 4 is trimmed down from 3.x, but I would imagine it's still considerably bigger than what we have. The problem with any newer versions of Sense was handled by moving a lot of system stuff to /data, but that'll only take you so far.
Also, as others have pointed out, no kernel source. That's another big problem.
I'm not saying that it *can't* happen, all I'm saying is, at some point, you're just going to have to upgrade to get the new software.

Obviously we will eventually have to get a new device, but why not try to fit something that will probably work? Specs are identical, now ill admit. You have me on the memory, but it can't be that big if its running the same specs as us. Probably 250-400mb max. I just see a problem with things working if we get a kernel to boot.

According to HTC's website, the One V has 4 GB of internal storage. On the Rezound, over 1 GB of the internal storage is just Android. Sense 4.0 would have to be way, way trimmed down to fit on what the Incredible has.
Give me awhile and I'll download the RUU and see if I can figure out how much space it's going to take up. That'll give everyone a clear idea on if it's worth pursuing or just impossible.

There's different One's Series.
One V can fit, its S & X that we would not be able to run.
Incredible Internal is I believe 6-8Gb's.
One V is actually running on - Desire, Droid Incredible 2 & S and I believe Thunderbolt is getting a Rom working, probably have to look for that.
Edit: the ruu port Tribulatti has made flashes to our phone but does not boot - we need a working kernel and probably a few other things.

Yeah, the Desire HD is a little different. The DHD has the Adreno 205, I believe, plus a newer Snapdragon, on top of more memory. It's more like the Incredible 2. In contrast, the original Desire has very similar specs to the Incredible.
This is on the whole space concern but I saw in the development thread that it could possibly run on 220 Mbs instead of most 3.5 ROMs running on like 320. Just a fun fact.
