I'm not able to post links, since this is my first post here (been a lurker for the past few months), but just do a search for lapdock on Amazon and you'll see it.
They only have 12 left in stock for now though. I just ordered it myself, since it seemed like a decent value at this pricepoint.
5 left now. Im tempted but motorola hasnt been transparent enough with their intentions.
I voided my warranty.
Damn you. 4 left now. Ive been trying to find one used for less than $150 but brand new at $200 from amazon, with their excellent return policy kinda hard to pass up. Thanks.
I voided my warranty.
Haha, I know how you feel. I spent the last week or so looking everywhere to see if I could get it cheaper.
Seems like they're out of stock for the next week or two. You can still order and get it at it's current price now though.
$200 for a lapdock that was $399? Great deal. Since motorola is coming with new phones that have the same connection as the atrix, would those work on the dock? I bet it would, so, to me, a lapdock is something that would be used on the Kal-eL phones too. (that's me hopping tho)
still ridiculously expensive, i could just get an Acer and it will have scroll. Why did they ef up so bad making/manufacturing those so expensive???
Lapdock is probably going back to amazon. I have no use for it if the cursor keeps freezing. Its happened 4 times already. Twice touchpad and twice bluetooth mouse. Sad because i like it too. And no word on support for webtop. Just future lapdocks.
I voided my warranty.
i agreed, why so expensive??? i have been dying to get one but the price is obnoxious, i think $200 is still high for a "shell" like that huhu... stupid marketing gimmick, but i still want one...
When it gets down to a buck 25 I'll grab one.
Im keeping it. I figured out my cursor issues. $200 is a good price actually. The quality over all is good. And because you need to dock your phone stealing it is a dumb idea unless the thief has an atrix. I didn't know you could p'n'p a wireless mouse with it. Anyways im going to get some female cables for it and see if photon users can use without modifying it. And maybe see if we can get webtop pushed to other phones with hdmi.

Do you need the ATT tether plan to use the Laptop Dock?

I can't personally confirm, but if AT&T doesn't have your mobile number on your account when you buy the lapdock, they have no idea you have it hence, no tethering plan.

You know that you can disable mouse in lapdock by clicking the white dot at top left corner of touchpad right?
You do know if you finish reading a thread you wouldn't have had to tell me that. But that wasnt the problem. It was dock connection.

wouldnt the photon need webtop on the phone.. has anyone pushed the webtop files to the photon.it should be possible...
Yes. Photon user has pushed webtop to photon. And used lapdock. The thing is he had to make some 'adjustments' to get it to work. I've posted threads there and here about cables. Im trying to get it pushed now.

well that's the price you pay for early adoption. $200 is fair even though it really is barebones. i think some improvement can be made still hardware wise, but it's satisfactory. the software side needs a lot of improvement and support, though. will devs undertake that though? i'm hoping some of these superphones in the future are compatible with lapdock. motorola plans on bringing more lapdocks to the market, but for specific phones which is absurd.

Have you seen the Atrix laptop dock? I can't post a link. So, go to Engadget, search for Atrix, and watch the video they posted today.
Would you be interested in such a thing for your Evo?
I wonder if it's even possible. Beyond the technical details, Motorola might have a patent on the idea.
No joke, I have been telling the guys at my work since I got my Hero over a year ago that we should make a phone dock, and they kept telling me nobody would ever use it. Well, obviously I disagreed and so do people here. Anyway, check out this thread [here], and more specifically this post [here].

I got laughed at until I had someone make a quick CG video of what could be done with my dock. After that it was "when, where, how much". The Motorola dock is just the tip of the iceberg of my intended design.
I really like where this is going... Any laptop shell that will compete with Moto should have the host phone act as the trackpad/mouse in front, not back... HDMI in needs to be a tablet feature as well! NC2 i'm looking at you!!
I would would have bought this thing the same day I bought my Eva. Pls HTC, make something incredible.

That is the SAME exact thing I was thinking when I saw the Atrix, it's so awkward on the back and would be AMAZING as a multi-touch mousepad...
I also wonder if Motorola has a patent over this, I tried doing some research and I think a different company holds the patent to this kind of technology, even though the patent terms were very broad.
I really hope not, I am looking forward to see how competitors create similar accessories.
I would love to also see a tablet shell... because realistically I will never need both my phone and a tablet.
I can't imagine the Atrix webtop thing ever taking off. If you're gonna bring something the size of a laptop around with you that costs 500 bucks, you might as well buy and actual laptop that costs 500 bucks. The only thing that's cool is their desktop cradle thing, but again, desktops can be had for so cheap that do FAR more than moto's webtop does. It'll never catch on.
Maybe a mod using the Cr-48 notebook its about the same size we need a Dev to Hack it and maybe get it to Mirror the Phone then if we have someone make a custom cradle to attach to it. IMO
No way I would buy one for $500 though, I'd much rather buy a laptop for that price.
$500 plus the cost of the phone would be like over $700!
Why not just buy a sick netbook for 299.99 lol, wouldn't it do more?

Everything is more expensive than it should at the beginning of a trend. Eventually, prices do go down and become affordable. This new concept is no different. I think that within the next 6 months these webtops will be as affordable as netbooks.
I thought the Atrix price point was a bit wishful as well...
That price point makes things very unpractical. I have an ipad 1 now. Got it for $200 bucks from a buddy because he just NEEDED to get the ipad2 so I am perfectly happy in the tablet department. Rooted evo with tether makes it easy to get files to my jailbroken ipad
yea.. honestly that atrix lapdock is expensive for what it does. and with the evo still not having full hdmi out on the device out of the box, i don't see it happening. and the ports on our phones would make it hard to make a lapdock in a good size as our fone would have to sit straight up if it were on the back, if it were up front, it would have to mount on the side or something and wouldn't be able to use the screen as a mouse pad.
seems like it would be cool. but i don't think it'll ever happen til the next evo after the 3d.
A laptop dock will NEVER make sense. Just get a netbook or laptop, which you probably already have.
What might make sense is a "desktop mode" that switches on as soon as you connect it to a stand alone monitor. No dock needed. They just want to make a few extra bucks by selling you a dock.
I'm thinking about getting the asus eee pad transformer when it hit the U.S,.

I must disagree here. I would love to have access to all my music, documents, programs, etc. at all times. I realize that you basically cam on your phone but sometimes it gets annoying having to type with my thumbs, or show pics/movies to my friends at 3.5 size.

What I'm curious to know is, has anyone found a good 10" tablet that has ask the features of the Dinc minus the phone?
Google pulls up a bunch and people leave reviews but none of those I'd trust as much as I would as much as I'd trust from xda testers. Need for work cause the web app is a pain on this small screen as the keyboard takes up most of the screen. cheap would be nice but understand good cost more. Also need all sensors with camera as I also use dishpointer pro almost daily.
Yep, large Dinc without phone... Recommend something to the confused...
Thanks

Just wait, better tables are coming within the next 2 months (Moto Xoom, LG G-Slate, Samaung Tab 2 possibly). They will all have upgraded processors, some have 3D cameras, higher resolution, and best of all, Honeycomb (Android 3.0)
Kewl, will hold off a bit.
Thanks.

Yeah i'm holding of on this too, there are so many tablets that are coming out soon (soon as in until summer) so it will worth the wait. Not to mention that prices will also go down, paying $600-700 for a tablet right now is not really a good value to me at least.

Bear in mind "you get what you pay for." Remember that our phones cost like $600 without a contract; the tablets that will be worth the money are going to be upwards of $500. The Galaxy Tab is $500 right now subsidized by Verizon.

Yeah, seeing that the tablets with wireless 3g are up there in price. Wanting one without the 3g so that I don't have to extend or pay an additional fee to add it to our cell plan. Using Wireless Tether would be just fine...

To be honest those Archos tablets aren't that bad at all. Quite good for what you pay for them. A guy I worked with a couple years back had one, really nice.
Dude, like you I have been waiting for an amazing tablet to along with my Incredible. I was totally sold on the XOOM (and still am) but $699 is too steep for me. I know that people will be saying that it is better than the $499 iPad because of more features and whatnot, but if Moto wants to make a name for itself in the tablet world and take the crown from Apple, it should release it for $499-$599 with the features it has. That way it will sell like hotcakes!
Anyway, since the XOOM is too expensive, I just learned about the Viewsonic gTablet last week and have fallen in love with it! 10.1" screen, Tegra 2, 512MB ram, 16GB internal memory, microSD, WiFi N, 1.3MP front camera and USB 2.0 for input!!! the price for this baby is only $379. I have been spending hours reading all the threads in the forums and people LOVE it. The actual software it comes with sucks, but there are very good stable roms out there for it, even a stock android 2.2 The hardware on the tablet are amazing! The devs on here are amazing and I am sure someone will be able to get a fully functional Gingerbread rom on that in due time.
If price for the XOOM is an issue then go for the gTablet. Very similar specs with the exception of 3G/4G data radio. Which most people do not want, including me.
Do you think within a month or two, 3rd party laptop docks are going to start showing up at a much cheaper price?

Dang it, I hope so. Or I'll be buying a Motorola one used eventually.
I hope so too. but really don't think so....hope I can buy a used one cheap on ebay or something
Same I would really enjoy the dock when I'm on the go but 300 bucks for it is a lot.
I hope so too. Either that or they need to lower the price on the official dock. Motorola needs to understand that they shouldn't be able to charge as much (or more than) a netbook price for what realistically is nothing more than a shell of a laptop. It just doesn't justify the $500 dollar price if you don't purchase the bundle.
Hopefully they will understand that once they see no one buying the laptop dock.
True. Yeah, there's no way I'll be buying one at $500. Maybe at $199 I'll consider picking one up new.
If Atrxi can sell like iphone, then the 3rd party laptop dock is possible. Otherwise, I don't think any company will take the risk to sell such a thing.
There is no way it is going to sell very well if the 4g speed problem isn't dealt with quickly.

This is true; hell my friend that drove me to the store to get the phone the other day has an Epic 4G; I was messing with the phone to get Market enabled and she had 4G off; didn't even know what it did.
The main market of people picking this phone up are the people who need their phone to do practically everything.
If I worked at a desk in an office, at home, and other places, buying the phone, the laptock dock, and 2 regular dock bundles would make sense.

I don't think so. At least, it never worked for me. what I usually do is turn off widow, plug phone into dock, open laptop, wait for the message saying that you don't have a plan show up, and then (assuming you have enabled hotspot tethering through android) turn on the hotspot. Try to see if Firefox works, and if it does, turn the hotspot off, and your data should work.

Wow
I've been holding out until the price dropped enough to warrant buying a screen, keyboard, mouse, and battery (even 300 is asking too much) but $87? Holy hell, first person to get theirs in needs to repost and tell if the refurbished model is worth dropping the cash.
I might have to sell some useless stuff and jump on this!
I never had a tablet or much desire to get one before. But after looking around for something for my senior citizen mom I found an A100 Open Box deal at Best Buy and wound up getting it for about $90.
For the most part I like it but I really hate that the power supply isn't some form of USB. But other more recent and much more expensive tabs that I've seen that are USB-charger based have crappy cameras or no camera flash (seriously? in this decade there are devices with like 1.2mp cams?!?!?).
So I have been trying to figure out which is more important to me and my mom - either a better camera with a flash in a heavy old-model tablet and a power supply that works with nothing else? Or a newer tab which would cost more money and have a crappy rear camera with no flash, but I wouldn't have to worry about forgetting the power supply at home?
For the price I paid, I think I got a good deal and would not find anything else in the same price range with comparable features. Unless you professional tablet users here have any ideas or thoughts about this
Thanks! Now let the "you're a stupid newbie" type of trashing begin lol
For me I like that's it's not power with USB, it's 12v so it's should be faster than USB and when I use it while it's plugged in the plug can spin around and I can move it out of the way, USB tends to stick out and get in the way. And a camera is important to me, never know when you'll need it.

You can probably get a HP Touchpad or Nook HD+ around the same price; $100; but the screens would be larger compared to the 7" a100. I do not know what kind of charger they use, sorry.
My parents who are 60 use a Le Pan S tablet but it has its own type of USB connector for the table end.
Nook HD+ has a proprietary charger cable and there aren't any cheap knockoffs on eBay. I bought one a few weeks ago and really like the bigger screen and higher resolution. Screen comes close to an iPad retina, but its a little underpowered. No problems for surfing/videos/books, I haven't tried any games on it though. Drawbacks are (1) no camera, (2) proprietary charger cable, (3) proprietary hdmi out cable. Also no GPS.
Hey, get the A110!!!!! Upgraded a100, comes stock with 4.1 and a tetra 3. Or a nexus 7. It has a camera right? The mp doesn't matter nearly as much as the resolution. 12Gigapixles in a 12px x 12px square is pointless, see what I mean?

However I got email from Acer tonight telling me that they invalidated my warranty registration because they don't provide any warranty on open-box items. That kinda stinks considering that it is over two years old and Best Buy told me that it is covered by the one year manufacturer warranty. But if I can't get Acer to change their mind and I do keep it, I might as well upgrade it to Jelly Bean, right?

I just bought an Acer a100 this month. My first tablet. I was looking at the Nexus 7 and the Acer a110 as well.
I liked the fact that the A110 was more powerful but missing features present on the a100. I just couldn't get over the fact that the a110 didn't have a rear camera or gorilla glass.
But I did like the quad processor, the ddr3 ram and longer battery life. Maybe I'll get one of those in the future too but for now the a100 is pretty cool.
