Hi.
After I successfully installed the cyangen mod, i wanted to install swype and some google apps. that is when i flashed the nightly sbf...
Since then, I could not start my phone..., only the bootloader (no matter which volume key i pressed).
So I looked for a full sbf to flash and found one, with code 2.5... (jrdnem u3 2.51.1)
but now, I can not even enter the bootloader. the only surviving signal of my phone i get is the white led when i connect it to the pc...
the battery status was at. about 85 %...
I'm really sorry, but i would be very greatful to receive some help
ps. before i flashed the nightly sbf, i forgot to wipe this thing in the bootloader...
Well...in my desperate state I was not able to type in the right words into the search bar. I think I found the answer to my Problem... My only task now is to find a well working sbf 2.5...
I'm still confused. I thought I'm not, but- would it be a problem if i flash the nordic cynagenmod, sbf version 3.4.2?
I would not knwo why not, but after I have these problems, I dont want to do anything again without knowing the consequence...
If you could enter stock recovery. You can do full wipe and boot to bootloader to flash your previous working sbf. If only bootloader your get now, just flash the nordic sbf and boot it into stock recovery to perform the full wipe.

Right now, I don't even see the Bootloader or any Motorola-Logo. It just nothing happening, when I press the power button.
Your battery may well have run out of juice (same happened to me once upon a time). Leave it off, stick it on charge. Go have a cup of tea or two, then try again.
Alright. Now I'v had the time to check again.
Even with charging, the phone is still not turning on.
But I've read somewhere :" Don't worry, as long as you "see" your device in RSD Lite you can still flash the firmware. My big question is: WHICH SBF will help me? I#m really afraid to flash anything, because I don't now the consequence...
About the Cyangenmod: It said, it is not downgradable... does this mean, that I must take the JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1 sbf?
Hope this tips shade some light in your quest of resurrection of your dying Defy.
1) Use RSDlite 4.9 or 5.0 as these program known to be stable on PC.
2) Use the latest Moto driver 5.0.0 ver. Google it and you find it easily.
3) Install both the above 1) and 2).
4) Take out your Defy's battery, plug in USB cable on both ends
5) launch the RSDlite and insert the battery. You'll get some drivers installing and have the connected status display on the RSDlite window.
6) Flash the phone to this file HERE.
7) After flashed completed (At this point you won't get a normal boot yet, screen still black or stuck in moto logo), reboot into stock recovery and do full wipe.
8) Reboot again and you should be seeing it alive again.
Note: If somehow your battery run flat. You must do the Mcguyver trick to flash your phone. Do it quickly to avoid your battery get fried and damaged. I would suggest you brigde the wire connection to a 100Kohm resistor to bring down the voltage/current, this will protect your battery from getting fried.
Wish best of luck this time around.
Wow. Thank you very much for this step-to step guide.
Now, before I get started I have one question left: Can I also use the 5.1 Moto Driver? Or should I downgrade it?
I have the RSDLite 5.0 now, (before it was the 5.33 or so).
Those drivers should work too..
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy: Stock Rooted Gingerbread 2.3.3 - XDA Premium
I tried what u said, it's just that RSD does not recognize my phone, so I cannot even flash. I want to believe this is because the battery has run flat (which I don't understand, it still had about 70 % 2 days ago, when the whole story started...)
Please tell me that this is just the symptom of a low battery?!
Is it possible that the flashing has wiped out all firmware and bootloader and chargin system availeble on the phone?
My defy has the same problem. I have changed battery and a universal charger but i dont to know as resolve
I used the Mac Giver trick to flash the sbf onto my defy. It worked, my Defy is working again. Thank you very much

Good evening everyone,
I own a Motorola Defy, and tried to put the ROM "For Adlxmod Froyo Defy, "but I had the UK firmware 2.51.1.
It was there that a lack of attention, my phone now does not care anymore.
He only gets a white LED lit in front of him and does not happen any more, nor even acknowledge again by RSD.
I read in several places that this is due to firmware 2:51 and I believe I have given a HARD BRICK on my device.
Has some way to fix my phone without having to take it to an authorized?
I thank everyone's help,
Felipe

Thanks, I managed to settle with the tip given!
Hello Everyone,
My Defy run out of juce with a special 3400mAh battery from china in the night. When I came home I changed the battery (the stock battery) which was fully charged. After that the defy was stuck in a bootloop (cm7) but i did not recognize this for a couple of hours. Because of this bootloop I removed the battery and put it in again from that time on the defy was dead. Maybe I did not wait long enough - I mean I saw the bootloop and thought 'crap' took the battery out and stuffed it right in again (I was a bit frustrated). Maybe i should have waited at least 5-10 seconds before putting the battery in again?
I tried to get access to the defy by RSD lite. But the PC does not recognize it. I got a white LED by connecting it to the PC. The defy is recognized only for to seconds and than disconnects again.
I tried to flash via sbf_flash on ubuntu without any result. The defy is simply not recognized. Only white LED. No Bootloader, no recovery, no logo.
Has anyone a suggestion? Is there a possibility to get acess to the defy to reflassh everything. Since the white LED is active there has to be a way. What about JTAG and riffbox? could this be a solution and if yes - how ?
I bought a used iPhone4 last week. But honestly: I hate it!! I do not like iOS, I dont like the edges of the iPhone - it is so uncomfortable to hold it in the hands. Wifi connectivity and connection is catastrophic. I will sell it a.s.a.p. again.
I want just my beloved defy back - the only phone I ever loved !! I appreciate any suggestions - thanks in advance !!
Your "special" battery is not that special afterall
What happened to your stock battery? Just get it charged - ask a friend with a Defy to charge it for you or do the McGyver trick, in order to fire it up again and then flash your stock SBF via RSD Lite. Calm down - Defy is like a Terminator and is immortal (as long as you don't kill it by flashing wrong SBF )
Thank you for the reply. However I have a dockingstation for the defy with which I can charge the battery without the phone. The battery is full for sure!
Hope you are right that the defy is like the Terminator - I have not lost hope yet.
Any other suggestions ?!
If Defy doesn't even get into bootloader, this means there is no juice in the battery. No matter what crap one would flash, bootloader is ALWAYS accessable! That's the beauty of the locked bootloader - you can't kill it! So as long as there is charge in the battery, you can always get into bootloader (Vol up + Power) and flash a new sbf. Peace of advice: don't trust your cheap, no-name, chinese battery. Use the original one, charged in another Defy phone, so you can make sure it really IS charged. The fact you left it in an external charger, doesn't mean it is charged - battery might not be working, charger may not be working, or both at the same time might not be working. There is no reason not to get into bootloader if there is charge in the battery
Cheers!

My Defy+ don't enter on bootloader anymore, just white light and RSD Lite is working. Had you saw this behavior before?

It's blank screen problem, happens when you flashed an SBF older than your previous one.
You still can get into Bootloader, just nothing on screen but it's definitely in there. Then flash the right SBF, the same or higher build than your previous stock rom successfuly to fix it.
Which SBF are higher than other? It's about Bootloader(BL) version, read here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
If not sure, try DFP-231 builds, it's highest BL version to ensure fixing this.

I have the same problem as last post (blank screen) with my DEFY (not plus). I flashed DFP-231 but now the boot stops at M logo. I`ve tried power+volume down but cannot access stock recovery. Any suggestions?

Look, I've suggested to one who use Defy+, so I said he should try DFP-231.
But not for Defy mb525, you shouldn't flash DFP-231 or any 2.3.x SBF files to your mb525...
Now you've stuck to Bootloader V.7 and no way back.
What's done is done, stick to that DFP-231 SBF you've flashed for now.
Did your flash finish with "Finish/pass" or "Please manually power up phone"?
If it Finish/pass then try again on Stock recovery, you almost there.
But if "Please manually power up phone", means you're not yet flashed your phone completely...
So do this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38187413
ok guys so i just picked up a brand new defy. got it home tried to run z4root and it just would not work. so i decided to just use super one click. did that no problem.
i then went ahead and used the 2nd init. still no issues. then when i was ready to flash i got stuck. cant load into bootloader or anything. im afraid the battery may be close to dead but im unsure.
currently all i can do is see the m logo. thats it. cant seem to get into recovery.
i also tried rsdlite but i cant sem to find the right files cause they all have the wrong extensions.
please help. i have no problem with buying someone a beer!!!
1. Boot the phone into stock recovery by holding power and volume down at the same time, press both volume buttons when it boots and go to factory reset/cache, run that.
2. Reboot into bootloader, by pressing power and volume up, plug into your PC.
3. Download the latest version of RSD Lite, and download a 2.2.1 SBF of your choice. You'll need to unzip the sbf file from the .gz using a .zip program, I use WinRAR.
4. Open RSD Lite, choose the sbf file, make sure the phone is connected in BOOTLOADER mode (step 2)
5. Run RSD Lite, wait until is says "PASS" In the dialogue box.
6. Enjoy!
ok so i got it back to the bootloader that you mention. however its flashing battery low cannot flash. or something like that. now what...
1st of all you if the blue led does not lit then you should try to go to stock recovery (start your phone using vol down + power, then press the lower right corner of the screen when the android appears with an exclamation mark - on Eclair- / press both Vol Up+ Vol Down -on Froyo -). Then you can start your phone into bootloader and flash the SBF again.
PS: older 2nd init versions get stuck on boot if the USB debugging is ON and the battery must be taken out to restart your phone.
EDIT: wow...how many replays have you received while I was typing mine Good luck and keep us posted!
If it says battery low, cannot flash, simply charge the battery for a bit, and then retry
how can i charge the battery? i have no lights blue or white...
I'm not 100% positive about this, but if the phone is off, and not bootable, I think plugging it in still charges it. Anyone know?
ok i just went to radioshack and bought a stand alone universal battery charger. im guessing if i give to 30-45 min that should be enough to try this process. any other tips/tricks in the meantime? im wondering where i went wrong. also what is the best file (link if possible) to use? lastly what will it take to get back to usa tmobile rom and i guess start over?
Since you are in the US use this sbf http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umt...1028.0R_JORDANTMO_P022_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf.gz with RSD lite. Use this version of RSD lite 5.3.1 and Motorola drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=609901&d=1306603535.
ALWAYS go into recovery and wipe first before entering bootloader and flashing sbf
The sbf I linked above is the stock eclair 3.6.360 for the US
Good luck if you need help just ask we are all here to help! You can PM me as well

Hello Mates,
tried to flash my friends defy yesterday(JOREM_U3_3.4.2_177-003 ). RSD said something like code(area) 32: Md5sum wrong(?) and now, when i switch the phone on, it says:
Bootloader 9.10
Code Corrupt
Ready to Program
connect USB
tried to flash different SBF´s without success. Meanwhile it says Battery low, unable to program...
Plugged in the AC, but it doesn´t load at all. when i plug the USB RSDLite (4.9) doesn´t recognize the Defy and also doesn´t load it...
I´m no beginner and flash smartphones since the p3700 without issues (except one bricked Touch HD, but was a HW-fault). Don´t know what i did wrong.
Hope so much that you can help me out , because she will kill me, if she doesn´t get her beloved DEFY back...
Greetings, Tom
Reinstall rsdlite of higher version and drivers might help. But you got to charge the phone first.

You should also re-download the SBF as it might be corrupted as well.
hmm...redownloaded the sbf.gz and updated to rsd 5.31 and new drivers on a clean system-same result... anything else icould do?
the Error is at ALL groups(31-47?) I think i lost warranty from now on...
thx in advance, tom
Edit: i have to unpack the .gz-files--is this right? I fell like a NOOB :-(
I would try a completely different sbf. Also plugging in the phone will not charge it unless you have a functioning ROM installed. If you still haven't got it charged use the Mcgyver method to charge it. Also you will want to wipe data/cache from stock recovery before flashing a new sbf (if you can even get into stock recovery now that you failed to properly flash sbf. If not then you will want to flash sbf to re-gain stock recovery access and then wipe data/cache or else you will have nothing but FC's when ROM finally boots)
and YES you must unpack .gz file.
if you keep flashing new and different sbf's and keep getting md5 mismatch on CG verification then your hardware is not properly flashing and you have a hardware issue! hopefully that is not the case. ONLY download sbf from XDA or and-developers
Hmmm... All the sbf´s were from and-developers... charging is not the problem, my girlfriend has a working defy, so i charge the battery there.
When i switch it on with volume down and power, the screen keeps black(backlight switches on) until i release the button(s). After releasing them i am automatically back in Bootloader(you know: code corrupt, etc...)
I also did not find the original sbf (2.1-update one, branden with 3 Austria)
she just wanted me to flash it, because the phone resetted itsels partly(motoblur, google-account) at every restart, it also had lot of FCs and lags. The Defy of my GF has the same branded FW and no problems. Perhaps it is really a HW issue?? I hope not! Any tips, where i could find the original 3 Austria FW??
Thank you all!
EDIT: What do you use to unpack the .gz-files? I tried 7zip and WinRAR.
It doesn't matter which one of those two apps you are using to extract the SBF from the archive. An alternate source for the SBF you've mentioned might be found on this thread. If you don't manage to revive it with that SBF then you might give it a try with the nordic one.
PS: hope you are using the original Moto USB cable.

Noticed at work that Defy keeps disconnecting if I use a cheap USB cable, while with Motorola one everything is fine (it also works fine with a Nokia USB).
Mine is doing the same.. any fix?
I have experienced the same exact problem. My Defy was having an issue where it would reset all passwords, clear all user data (including Blur) and require a complete new setup, every time I pulled the battery or turned the phone off then on. It was so annoying. It also wouldn't take the 2.2.1 update OAT, so I decided to re-flash. I am now with a bricked phone that gives the same "Code is currupt" message and no known fix. Arhhh!
I have the same problem too. What should I do?
Try to give it to motorola for warranty and tell them that u were upgrading over the air and this happened

I might ruined my defy+
When I bought it, it was in German, i changed it to dutch and had android 2.3.6
Flashed it with the all-in-one Defy beginners guide
Had a working android version afterwards, only calling/sms/2g and 3g didn't work. Didn't try to fix it because i wanted to flash the latest cm7.2.
Don't know what i did after that (afterwards we went to carnaval, so i drank to much). I know I installed a uk rom 2.3.6 version and here it went wrong. It went into a bootloop. Got the M logo and spinning white thing around. Tried installing differnt roms, none worked. And now my phone doesnt do anything, wont start or go in to bootloader. RDS light find it but white led wont go on.

Flash this Fixed SBF
Delete Data/Cache again and reboot"
Anyone got a answer for this? I am searching this forum for over 6 hours in the last days.
Mate, when you say it doesn't start... Nothing happens when you hold the power button? Not even the M logo (bootscreen) shows up?
Can you access stock recovery? When your phone is off, press and hold Volume UP button and power button. Does anything happen?
When you enter the bootloader, what does it say? Please write everything down.
I'm 99% sure that your phone isn't dead, you've just flashed some wrong stuff. First of all, CM7.2 is not compatible with 2.3.6. There is a CM7.2 DEFY+ version, but it works with 2.3.4 only. If you used a normal defy CM7.2, it's for Froyo only. Anyway, whatever version you used, it's not strange that it wasn't successful.
P.S I've done the same thing first time I've tried to update to some custom ROM
One more thing. After CM7.2 flashing resulted in a frozen bootscreen (M logo), please write down all the steps you did? It's kinda hard to figure out from that guide you've posted..!

Not really, buddy :-/
You should have answered my questions, that way I could have written you a step-by-step guide
What you should do:
0. Phone's off
1. Enter stock recovery
2. Wipe data and wipe cache
3. Turn off phone
4. Enter bootloader
5. Flash full stock 2.3.4 sbf - http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/1HLS00W4/
6. Your phone should boot up normally after the process is done
If you can not enter stock recovery, then just enter bootloader and flash the sbf. The thing is, those fixed sbf's don't have all the codegroups, so some stuff from CM7.2 has probably remained in your system. Full sbf should do a much better job. But, it would be great if you can enter stock recovery. That way the flashing must be successful.
Note, I haven't tried that 2.3.4 sbf! But it's the only one I could find. I need it too and I will test it tomorrow morning, so if you want, you can wait for me to test it first. (I need it cause my defy+ is on Froyo now, and Froyo and defy+ don't really like each other ) I have tested one 2.3.5 sbf, I can point it to it if you wish so. (It doesn't matter which android version it is, as they all have version 6 signed codegroups, so you can switch between them without worrying! Only some latest 2.3.6 ROM's are signed as version 7, but it's highly unlikely that you have flashed your phone with one such)
I Agree with niksy+, can't help, I have a Green Lens Defy, so all i have to say is good luck, and a step-by-step would have been nice
Thank you for the effort, my defy+ is braindead. When i connect it to my pc the white top led goes on. And that is it, nothing on RSD, wont boot, wont go in the bootloader
There's a trick for that i think i remeber it's:
Plug phone it with rsd ready (the phone should be dead with white led)
Pull battery out and press vol up + down
Put battery back in
It might not be exactly that but i can assure you i read somewhere what to do with your issue

That process is called "force bootloader method" and it can be done on any and every Motorola, as far as I know..! (I've done it on my previous E398, ROKR E1 and ROKR E8 phones (yeah, I've killed all my phones dozens of times )) and, yes, sometimes it does get you into the bootloader when the normal way doesn't!
So, as crakeron said:
1. Battery out
2. Wait couple of seconds (to make sure the phone goes completely out of power > completely off)
3. Start up RSDlite (v5.3.1 minimum!)
4. Connect your phone to the usb (yes, without the battery)
5. Now, you need to press and hold a combination of buttons and insert the battery WHILE holding the buttons pressed and keep them pressed for couple of seconds.
*I'm not sure what the combination of keys is it, but I would try:
a) Volume UP and Volume Down
b) Volume UP and Power Button
c) Volume Down and Power Button
d) Volume UP and Volume Down and Power Button (this one is the least likely, I think)
6. Your phone should show up in RSDlite and you can flash it then. The bootloader maybe won't show up on the phone screen, but if it shows up in RSDlite - it's all that you need!
This forcebootloader thing isn't quite easy and it may take couple of tries to hit the exact needed timing, so try all combinations a couple of times. Let us know if you pull this off!
i have the popcorn out for this one - fun thread! will the defy be rescued??? tune in next time, same bat board, same bat sub board!

If the UK 2.3.6 ROM you installed was this one then you will not be able to downgrade to any other 2.3.6 ROM (except I think this one), let alone 2.3.5, 2.3.4 or Froyo (it does say that in the thread you linked).
You should still be able to flash either of those 2.3.6 ROMs with RSD Lite. But no other ROM - until some more with CG 7 or above become available - and it's currently not rootable either. So no chance of CM7 or other such like goodies. At least you should be able to get a working phone that you can sell on eBay if you desperately don't want to be stuck with the T-Mobile 2.3.6 ROM.
Morals of the story:
1) Read before you flash
2) Keep a written record of what you did (I know, boring)
Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Wel I hope that iolinux333 has enough popcorn because non of the mentioned forced bootloader steps works
When i put my + on the usb nothing happens for a few minutes after that a withe led will shine. Thats all.
Thank you all!
I asked you already on tweakers.net, but I'll ask the same questions here:
What's the status of your battery? (Full, empty, half-full?) What version of RSD-lite did you use? What version of drivers are installed on your computer? How many times did you try the different key combinations after pulling out battery, connecting to your computer? What did you see at each step?

Been away for a few days. Back and ready to repair, I appreciate all your help.
no sim and sd-card
win7 64-bit
Battery is Full
RSD Lite version 5.6
motorola 5.4.0 usb drivers 64-bit
Tried all combinations at least 10 times. First I disconnect usb -> take out bat -> make combination and count to ten -> put in bat -> holds for minimum of 10seconds -> click on "show device" on RSD -> Nothing show
Nothing ever shows.
You really should give us more... What happens when you try to power it on? I think you only get black so, does power+vol(+) give you something or do you get a white led when you plug it in the pc?
If yes, it should be recognizable. I don't think you can get into bootloader mode when power-on gives nothing. Maybe by putting the battery back while holding the volume(+) I think and the power button. (like stated earlier) But I thought the white led was enough.
If you don't get the white LED and you only get black screen, maybe try to borrow a battery from someone...
If you get the white LED but RSD doesn't find it: try a few ports, maybe other PC, ....
I also think a Win7 window should pop up first with something like: 'Motorola diag... device found' (or maybe something completely different)
Then I think the easiest = warranty. I'm from Belgium. Had to send it to a repair center in the Netherlands (for a totally different reason) and it took them a while to fix it (it needed to be send elsewhere, .. ).
Just tell them you tried to update your rom and it wend wrong. Anyway, it takes about a month I think...

Compleet black nothing happens

Still nothing
or do you get a white led when you plug it in the pc?
Yes I got that

Still nothing, not even the white led

Haven't been able to trie different pc's. Tried differt usb ports, even those of my mouse and keyboard so I know they fully function, only white led
I also think a Win7 window should pop up first with something like: 'Motorola diag... device found' (or maybe something completely different)
nothing to show

Thank you for helping me, I just tried RSD Lite 5.7 and also nothing.
Sorry a bit late. You didn't lie
I should be recognizable. Especially with a full battery. If not, you might have had a bad install and they might have to replace the botherboard.
If you don't mind waiting a couple of days longer, bring it to the place you bought it. Then the delivery costs are free. But could take 1-2 weeks longer.
IF they do conclude it is your fault then you have to pay an amount of money to deliver it back or you can pay for repairing it (for motherboard could be 80-100 or more, actually don't know). Again when you went trough shop this takes a week or so. (motorola => shop => 3 days nothing => you => 3 days nothing => motorola).
They are not that picky at motorola except for water damage maybe (check for a red sticker below the battery. If it is still white => no prob)
Thank you all. I've sent my phone to the store where i bought it, on friday and the next friday i got it back. With a fresh stock rom.
i bought this Defy+ just a couple of days ago and i was trying to get CM7. I struggled to root it but i achieved it. I wiped and did all the procedure before installing it, but i didn't had enough space on my SD, so i rebooted and booted like a brand new defy, going through the Blur config and everything... So i went to Recovery again, but at this time i forgot to do the wiping - which, i guess, led to a brick.
So i managed to get a .sbf to flash it.. What i didn't realized is that the .sbf was a custom, so i guess this ****ed up my phone even more. And so i went on trying to rescue my phone but this time i couldn't complete the flashing process, i wasn't able to perform a downgrade - i guess. After this, i got a non-rootable .sbf and began the flashing. The process got stuck on some message at 0%, then i disconnected the phone.
When i was able to download a stock firmware, from the .sbf thread, the phone wouldn't reboot when RSD asked, it didn't turn on again. So i tried to re-flash it, same .sbf and now i'm stuck with this situation: the pc is not recognizing my phone, i have a black screen - not even the Bootloader error screen is appearing and i'm here, begging, for someone to help me. is it dead? can i get it back?
HELP, PLZ
Is there any juice in the battery left? Does the phone even turn on or did you just drain all of your battery? If so, you have a couple of options - do McGyver or find somebody with the same phone and ask him to charge your battery and then start over. I would strongly recommend you take the second option.

it doesn't turn on, but i guess it does have battery, i can see the led on when i connect it to the pc
Led is always on when connected to the PC - it means nothing. If it doesn't turn on, then your battery's dead. Find someone who has the same phone and can charge it for you.
I think there is no problem, but you flash older firmware, which is probably due to the 7 bootloader does not go up.
try to be flash with one of these (2.3.6 GB)

begins with the 139-ended, if it is not going to work with the 188-ended
Sorry for bad English
"As of today there is no a full SBF** for the Defy+ (found here).
This full SBF is a new CG Version**, with Android 2.3.6. You wont be able to go back to your Stock Defy+ Rom, but at least you wont kill it if something goes wrong."
i successfully flashed it but still it won't turn on, i'm almost giving up on this one

If it gets past the red m and just keeps playing the android animation then simply pull battery hold volume - put battery in and keep volume - held when you get the android and the triangle press volume + and - and wipe all, should boot, unfortunately you've just flashed the un root able sbf and are stuck on moto standard
teamwork makes the dream work
nevermind, i flashed other sbf version and it is now working; too bad this version isn't rootable
anyway, many many thanks for all the help
