What differs from each sense 3.0 rom? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im running synergy RC2 now. Is there really anything different from the 15 sense 3.0 roms out there beside the look of them?

There are usually a LOT of things different with each rom. The first post of each rom thread will tell you the differences. If you are still unsure, just make a nandroid backup, flash a new rom, and try it out for a few hours. That's the beauty of having a rooted phone: make a backup, try something new, if you dont like it, restore the backup and try again.

Is there a ROM thats nothing but Sprint+Sense 3.0?

And what exactly do you mean by that

Unless someone has ported over the roms that comes pre-installed on the HTC Sensation or the HTC EVO 3D, the best you can do is flash one of the Synergy roms and then flashed one of the numerous available 3D rosie carousel zips, in my opinion.
posting & replying from my EVO 4G

I would recommend shooter for speed and reliability, but just my opinion. A full 3.0 experience.

The Kinged Shooter ROM is an Evo 3D port. You have all the goodies of a custom ROM with your sprint stuff (minus the bloatware). That is your best bet for a sprint ROM with sense 3.0 at the moment.

There are a few GB ROM's running around, but I don't know that I'd say the majority are.
It all depends on what you want, if you still want to have HTC Sense stuff then Lou's ROM's are great, if you want a Desire-Z based ROM then Myn's Warm 2.2 is pretty good, and then if you want an AOSP (mostly GB now) then you can't go wrong with the CM7 nightlies.
They are lightning fast now with Slayher's .37 kernel he released yesterday.
My suggestion would be to nandroid and flash away, if you don't like it, you can always restore it back to the original!

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I've had CM6 on my phone since the stable release and haven't been active on the forums since then. Appreciate the feedback.

There is a Z version.
Noob here (formerly a BB user).
Okay, so I have some basic questions re installing themes:
1) How do you install themes?
2) What are ROMs and how are they associated with themes?
3) What are the common issues with installing ROMs/themes?
Any suggestions/answers are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There are thread that explain all this. I think they are titled "read this first, complete guide to flashing custom roms/themes"
On the OP question-Incredibly re-engineered is well worth a look as well as Magnolia. Both Roms have tremendous dev support.
Thanks!

sense 2.0?

ok so i searched and searched but could not find a definitive answer for my question. is there a flashable zip to install sense 2.0 on a sense 1.0 rom? like the portrait and landscape rosie and htc hub deal from myn's warm z, on warm2.2 rls5 respectively? i flashed warm z and loved it, despite the lack of 4g, even though i dont use it much, i just prefer to have a rom that runs seamlessly, like my current rls5 setup.
any insight would be helpful.
No.

NO..
sense is not just a launcher or .. some app....
it is deep imbeded into the os...it is too tied into the everything.
Sense needs to be integrated with whatever rom your using

The answer is : no, no, nin, いいえ.
Mikz new rom has sense 2.0 and is very slick/stable. Highly recommend it.
So did it ever fix it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
nope. why do you think it takes a team of professional, full time, fully paid, talented developers (htc) to upgrade a phone? takes quite a bit of work...
I am Not saying this will work, but in this thread they have a flashable.zip first you install the 2.3.3 gingerbread rom (sense 2.1 stripped out) then flash the zip to add sense back in. (Could try just flashing the sense on the 2.3.3 Evo Leak to see if it upgrades)
Now the landsacpe piece dosen't work yet, and there are a few other glitches with 2.3.3 until a kernel is released, but if your bored make a nandroid play around

Note sure how to quote from a diff thread but this is the post i am referring to:

[Q] Help with Sense to ASOP ROM

I have searched the XDA site and the internet and I cannot find an answer. I am a newbie and I have been trying to find an answer for the last 3 days. Here is what I am trying to do:
I am looking to install a rooted Sense ROM on my Sprint HTC EVO. The phone is already rooted and I am running CM7. My question is, can I just flash a sense ROM coming from a AOSP ROM like CM7 or is there a different way I have to put a sense ROM on the phone?
Second part to my question: Do you reccomend a particular (Rooted)sense ROM?
Thanks in advance.

No different way..Just wipe data and cache. I'm using Eternal Prophecy and I like it...good battery life.
Yes. You can flash it just like any other rom Just put the zip on your sd card and go into recovery. Be sure to wipe everything. Even 2 or 3 times. I can't link it because im mobile but search for the vr superwipe. If coming from an aosp like you are you may have to apply the gps fix to get it working again. And as far as recommendations, I would go for Myn's twopointtwo or Koni's Elite III. If you want the look of stock without all the bloatware go for the Sprint lovers rom.
Sent from "The EVO" using XDA Premium
You probably didn't find a straight answer because you don't need to do anything special to flash from an AOSP ROM to a Sense ROM. Make a nandroid backup, wipe everything, and flash away.
Now your question about which Sense ROM to flash, I'm sure there's plenty of threads on that. The most stable Sense ROMs are still Froyo (2.2) w/Sense 1.0. But there's plenty of Gingerbread w/Sense 2.0 or 3.0 alphas and betas. If you don't want to be a tester I wouldn't mess with them. Just go to the Devolopment forum and pick a ROM with the most replies and most recent revision. That's how I started. That way you know you have an active developer and userbase.

[Q] Helpn out a friend few Q's on stock vs custom rom/kernal *read guides

Thunderbolt user here, I'm helping out a buddy of mine boost the battery life of his stock Evo.
What I have planned is:
Root the phone
Get rid of all the bloatware
Use setcpu to tweak the performance settings
Optional:
Custom Kernel so I don't need to use setcpu
^^^ I do this because he would be able to update to a new stock kernel if sprint releases one. If I'm not around him few months down the line. He's a novice, but if I can I'd show him how to do the other stuff.
What I'd like to do is:
Find a nice custom sense 3.0 rom (very stable and nice batt life)
^ There's a bunch of those, does anyone have a good opinion on a nice sense rom?
Thanks
You can try the team nocturnal kinged shooter rom runs great; as for sense kernels, not sure, as I run aosp personally. Also, you'll have better battery typically on aosp.

I would choose AOSP instead of any UI except for sense 3.0+, I prefer it a lot more. They seemed to of done quite a nice job .
One question though, can I turn S-ON by just flashing a stock RUU in the boot loader? Ohh I forgot, can I update clockwork mod updates via the app and not the revolutionary one?

Naw, you'll have to flash all the appropriate mods prior to running the RUU. That'll give you a stock rom, s-off, with no root access, til you re-flash a recovery.

virtuous infinity rom V1.33.0 alpha 3

just flashed the "flashy" infinity rom from virtuous on my G2. The thing is it's incredibly slow, the screen keeps flashing, at first i thought it will end very soon but it goes on and on. i am a noob but i think a good kernel will help question is which one pls i need help cos i realy love the rom if it could just work smoothly for me ..................any one......

Goodluck
I thought that Sens is good when purchased my phone. Then it updated to 2.3, then I rooted it and got 3.0 with Virtuous Affinity and I still thought that I need Sense on my phone. It's only when I got fed up with all the lags I installed Mimicry. It was like a breath of fresh air. Everything suddenly was all smooth and lag free.
Make a backup, give it a try. If you won't like it - just restore.

Partially agree, but since I tried GenY, I don't have any complaints about speed and still have Sense. I was using Mimicry and have to say it's best AOSP ROM, but lack of mms and sending contacts by SMS forced me to go back for Sense rom. And only 1 is good is GenY.
