[Q] Help with Sense to ASOP ROM - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have searched the XDA site and the internet and I cannot find an answer. I am a newbie and I have been trying to find an answer for the last 3 days. Here is what I am trying to do:
I am looking to install a rooted Sense ROM on my Sprint HTC EVO. The phone is already rooted and I am running CM7. My question is, can I just flash a sense ROM coming from a AOSP ROM like CM7 or is there a different way I have to put a sense ROM on the phone?
Second part to my question: Do you reccomend a particular (Rooted)sense ROM?
Thanks in advance.

No different way..Just wipe data and cache. I'm using Eternal Prophecy and I like it...good battery life.

Yes. You can flash it just like any other rom Just put the zip on your sd card and go into recovery. Be sure to wipe everything. Even 2 or 3 times. I can't link it because im mobile but search for the vr superwipe. If coming from an aosp like you are you may have to apply the gps fix to get it working again. And as far as recommendations, I would go for Myn's twopointtwo or Koni's Elite III. If you want the look of stock without all the bloatware go for the Sprint lovers rom.

You probably didn't find a straight answer because you don't need to do anything special to flash from an AOSP ROM to a Sense ROM. Make a nandroid backup, wipe everything, and flash away.
Now your question about which Sense ROM to flash, I'm sure there's plenty of threads on that. The most stable Sense ROMs are still Froyo (2.2) w/Sense 1.0. But there's plenty of Gingerbread w/Sense 2.0 or 3.0 alphas and betas. If you don't want to be a tester I wouldn't mess with them. Just go to the Devolopment forum and pick a ROM with the most replies and most recent revision. That's how I started. That way you know you have an active developer and userbase.

Noob in need of help...

Hi all, i have been searching for a while and cant seem to find my answer so hopefully someone can help. I have rescently rooted my HTC Desire and installed one of the roms off here (Psychosis 5.0) it has installed fine except i no longer have the android market on my phone, i am running 2.1 0.83. Can someone please tell me how to get it back?
Many thanks.
You can try to flash a stand alone new market or Gapps, but I think it's better to just flash a up to date rom.
Since Psychosis 5.0 is based of a old Leedroid rom I would suggest you install the newest Leedroid or find something else you like.
Ah ok pal, thanks for the help i will find a different rom
Any advice as to what rom to flash?
Depends on what you want, look around in development and this thread. See if anything there strikes your interest.
If you have no idea and what to stay as close to stock as possible but with the benefits of custom roms I would suggest to install Leedroid
If wanna have everything working and want to stay as close as to stock as said before than Leedroids ROM is the one for you.
If you like speed and no snick snack and no Sense, I want to suggest DeFrost 6.1a. See the rest Non-Sense ROM too.
If you like extra snick snack and the new Sense, try one of the DHD or Z ported ROM. I am currently using InsertCoin 1.8f.
If you are and advance user and like to experiment things, try one of the experimental Gingerbread (2.3) ROMs.
If you like to have something iPhone alike, try one of the MIUI.
Note:
For newbies, please stay away first from any Data2SD and Data2Whatever or any Gingerbread ROMs at the moment.
Stick with App2SD, learn more first!
I don't know how to get market back, but I also recommend Leedroid, AuraxTSense, or ReflexTSense. All good ROM's, in my opinion...

sense 2.0?

ok so i searched and searched but could not find a definitive answer for my question. is there a flashable zip to install sense 2.0 on a sense 1.0 rom? like the portrait and landscape rosie and htc hub deal from myn's warm z, on warm2.2 rls5 respectively? i flashed warm z and loved it, despite the lack of 4g, even though i dont use it much, i just prefer to have a rom that runs seamlessly, like my current rls5 setup.
any insight would be helpful.
No.

NO..
sense is not just a launcher or .. some app....
it is deep imbeded into the os...it is too tied into the everything.
Sense needs to be integrated with whatever rom your using

The answer is : no, no, nin, いいえ.
Mikz new rom has sense 2.0 and is very slick/stable. Highly recommend it.
So did it ever fix it?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
nope. why do you think it takes a team of professional, full time, fully paid, talented developers (htc) to upgrade a phone? takes quite a bit of work...
I am Not saying this will work, but in this thread they have a flashable.zip first you install the 2.3.3 gingerbread rom (sense 2.1 stripped out) then flash the zip to add sense back in. (Could try just flashing the sense on the 2.3.3 Evo Leak to see if it upgrades)
Now the landsacpe piece dosen't work yet, and there are a few other glitches with 2.3.3 until a kernel is released, but if your bored make a nandroid play around

Note sure how to quote from a diff thread but this is the post i am referring to:

you should have a working EVO Shift port!

Each rom has its own kernel so dont fear you do not have to manually change anything yourself. Just update the rom.
Going from 2.2 to 2.3 I would do a clean wipe and not just cache and davlik. Do a search for Caulkins format all which would be very helpful when going from Froyo to Gingerbread. It will give you a clean slate to start with
Please note Caulkins format all is a zip file that wipes all data on your phone. Then you can install any rom you want and usually has less issues. Also you may have GPS issues when going from 2.2 to 2.3. Try and read up on this stuff prior to flashing so you know what your getting yourself into..
^^^^ He is right. Every ROM has a kernal already. Untill you learn more about switching them I wouldn do it yet, you could break or brick something.
Ok, well if I switch my Rom will the kernel change automatically?
Yes, a new kernel is bundled with the ROM
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Correct me if I'm wrong, but at this point I don't even think there are any custom kernels to install on 2.3 until the source code is released (if ever)...

Dont take this the wrong way but if you are unsure if a kernel comes with a rom I suggest you do a lot of reading up before flashing. Custom kernels are just that custom and flashed separately. Also certain kernels are for sense and different ones are for AOSP. Please try and understand that first before just flashing away. Asking questions may or may not be the way to go up in here.
I SUggest reading the stickies and threads done by people like toastch, caulkins xhausx and others similar to them. They have experience and a good track record as far as I am concerned

You are correct. There are, however, kernels with a few tweaks if I remember correctly, fixing Wi-Fi and maybe another issue (4G I think, not sure)

[Q] new roms

I have been off the scene for awhile so much changes so quick. I have rooted my phone with unrevoked last year and am on jiminy v cricket rom. My phone has been working good. I found out about hdmwin mirror and it did not work so that brought me here. I am currently still on android 2.2 and rooted and want to try some new roms like cyna 7 and nitelies. here are my questions
1. do i need to re root phone to newer version or is unrevoked still alright
2. what roms work for 2.2 and get hdmi mirror for hdmwin
3. same thing as question 2 for kernals.
4. any addtional info
I read quite a few threads and got confused..
thanks for you help.
Shouldn't need to re-root. Why are you holding off on running a 2.3 ROM?
I am not sure if the new roms matched up with android 2.2. might be missing some info on this I read but a little confused on the 2.2 to 2.3 and so forth on which roms work for each one.
You don't need to upgrade to official 2.3. I never did. The 2.3 ROMS are not gonan give you the great battery life that Froyo ROMS had, but they have a TON more to them now. No SBC Kernels for Sense, either.
You in a good state right now. Go to the link in my URL. It will explain everything about cm7 and you need to flash amon RA too which is in there

Kernels: Chopsuey 9.2.7 and Freedom .9 are the major ones, if you are sticking with Sense.
Kernels are the major part. I would suggest MikG, or if you are feeling adventurous, either MikRunny or Hybrid (in Jaredthegreat's thread FEARMEde). I suggest mounting data in recovery before flashing any kernel. Under "Mounts" option in recovery.
Maybe you need to update to AmonRa 2.3, still the best
AOSP-wise, either MIUI or Deck's, paired with Tiamat 4.1 kernel SBC.

[Q] Best Sense ROM

I haven't seen this topic in a while, so I figured it would be worth asking.
I've had my Incredible for about 2 years now, and I have the opportunity to upgrade it. Only thing that is stopping me is the cost of getting a new phone that basically does the same thing (with the exception of a front facing camera).
So instead of spending the money, I'd like to try out some ROMs to give the old device some new life. I'm currently on the stock OTA and I like Sense, so wondering what other Sense ROMS are out there that is good enough for daily driving (i.e. Stable and great battery life).
Thanks in advance!
Depends on what version of Sense you like. Based on your wants I'd recommend:
Sense 1.0 - Stock+ / EVO Classic
Sense 3.0 - Nils Business Gingersense / Anthem (I really don't like "tooting my own horn," but Anthem does have good battery life)
Sense 3.5 - Nils Business Gingersense 3.5
Sense 2.1 - McTwist
These are just my suggestions, but you should try all the ROMs you can to find the one that fits you best.
+1 for anthem

Thank you! I will give that a shot!
im partial to nils gingersense 2.1/3 mix myself. just have to do a little maintenance such as update the busybox and superuser
mcsense or stock+ they are both modded versions of stock, but if you want a little more than stock go for mikrunny and/or mikg which are by team mikmik
hi guys, using the theme, what is the ICS rom more stable and functional for the Droid Incredible?
And hangs Sense is the best with 3.0 or 3.5, but I've seen some that have bugs, which is the most stable?
Before trying out the roms, do you guys know if having the ext4all mod with the moved dalvik cache will screw up the roms?

There is a 90% probability it will.
Do you have the mod currently installed? As when you wipe and install the ROM it will undo the mod. Unless you mean flash the ext4all mod with dalvik moved after. In that case I'm pretty sure there will be issues. Not guaranteed but the thing I don't like about the dalvik moved mod is that now the dalvik will only have 150MB to store it's cache instead of be on the 750MB /data storage. This is ok until you get a decent number of apps on (and if you are flashing larger ROMs (sense 3 and up). Unpredictable results can occur. And if you ask why it's an option it's because it is and it's an attempt to reclaim space lost by not mounting the /data/data from the no data limit mod.
Hope this helps.
I have no ext4all, I've only released HBOOT and root the phone, I have version 4.08.605.2.
So what rom do you recommend?
