Should i update HBOOT? - Desire General

Hello! I saw that using the RUU updates the HBOOT to 1, and it can be S-OFF'ed. Should i update? i have 0.98 right now. I don't mind losing data

Not sure there is any benefit really...
I haven't updated mine and I have no problems.

same here, i haven't and wont be, as long as i can flash roms and it all still works i dont see the point.

better stick to 0.98, at least for now

I never heard 0.98 for the desire gsm..maybe you mean 0.93

I S-off'd with revolutionary and now my HBOOT states 6.93.1002...

Well since the s-off process involves installing a modified hboot, you would just be back to the modified hboot if you update and s-off, and no you would not gain anything from that procedure.

Can you explain please?

Alpharev have added a check that disallow downgrading of the hboot in order for you to be able to install a ruu and still be s-off(but otherwise completely stock).
In order to make sure that the ruu does not downgrade the bootloader, the alpharev ones check the versions against each other, and to make sure alpharev is always higher than htc, they have chosen a very high version number(6.93.0001).
If you want the stock hboot back you can install a special alpharev(6.93.0001) without this downgrade protection and afterwards flash the ruu

[Q] WIch RUU is the right for updating hboot?

Hello everybody
I want to update my 0.80 HBOOT for S-OFF, now my question is what is the right? I live in Austria & bought my Wildfire with the provider T-Mobile Austria.
Thank you.
Since your Wildfire is already debranded I assume, use any Froyo RUU. Personally, I used WWE 2.22.405.1, since that has HBoot 1.01.0001, which has no issues with AlphaRev X.

If I remember correctly, you can get S-OFF with unrevoked if you have HBOOT < 1.01.0001
Also I don't think you can change the HBOOT with a RUU, because before alpharevx it was possible to downgrade the RUU, but not the HBOOT.
Since I'm new here, I cannot give you the link to unrevoked, but you will find it easyly with google.
Good luck!

Yes it's debranded, but now I have another question: the WWE 2.22.405.1 is a .zip file, how do i update the hboot with it?

There's an EXE file as well on the Shipped ROM's site for WWE 2.22.405.1. It's a little bit lower in the table.
Anyway, if you want to try with the ZIP file (I tried the Zip first - didn't work for me), then download it, rename it to PC49IMG.zip, place it on the root of your SDCard, and reboot in HBoot mode. It will automatically detect the file and attempt to install it.

Nope.
Unrevoked S-OFF tool (called unrevoked forever) is not present for wildfire. But instead present for some other htc phones.

All I know is that there is an unrevoked version that works with WF before HBOOT 1.01.001.
This can't be used for S-OFF?

All it does for hboot 0.80 is pushing of custom recovery through a nand exploit. The phone still stays s-on.
But such kind of tool is available for some other htc devices.

[Q] Upgrade HBOOT

Hi there
i have Hboot 0.80 And I want to S-OFF my phone!
alpharevx for HBOOT 1.01
what do i do?
Thanks all
It took me ages but probably because I took the long way round.
I think I formatted my SD card and made as gold card, then used the RUU tool in the Arabic RUU thread below this one.
That worked for me after a day of trial and error. I guess there is a quicker way. Search the forums I know alot of rooting guides have popped up since Alpha-Rev release.

Just go to Unrevoked.com, download their app and S-OFF+ROOT+Recovery install on your phone. HBOOT 0.80 is rootable, because it's the old version. You don't need Alpharev X.

try that it works for me...just select the applicable RUU to your region then your S-OFF!!!
I got HBOOT 1.02 after running RUU but when I run alpharevx it still got s-off.
Don't forget to install and uninstall HTC Sync so you won't encounter driver issues.
Then when your already s-off follow the instructions on the link below then that's it you got full control!!!

I had 2.3.3 oficial update. I used revolutionary to s-off (with the oficial update i had 1.02.0001 hboot and after s-off i had 6.93.0002 hboot). After s-off i ran the shipped RUU and i am still s-off and 6.93.0002 hboot.
Is there a way to get back to 0.93.0001?

Why do you want to do that?
There is a downgrader.img on the alpharev website which if you fastboot flash it to replace the existing hboot, will then allow you to use a RUU. Choose a RUU that has the hboot you want and run it. Of course this will unroot your phone. What is your actual aim here?
Downgrade from HBOOT 6.93.0002 to 0.93.0001
Guys, if you ORIGINALLY had 0.93.00001 and ran the Revolutionary S-OFF program, it WILL update your HBOOT to 6.93.0002. This is a GOOD thing, you'll still be S-OFF'd but you'll be running the Gingerbread HBOOT version. It's always better to have the newer version of the HBOOT than the older version. As long as you're S-OFF'd, it really doesn't matter which HBOOT version you have, I just recommend the newer version. Thanks!

For your information, GB Hboot is 1.02.0001 not 6.93.0002. 6.93.0002 is revolutionary hboot and if htc sees that highly likely they will not place it under warranty.

[q] HBOOT .98 s-OFF???

I looked for hours and tried many different things...
My friend has the HTC Desire, CDMA version (cspire/cellsouth version, but i think its the same hardware as the US Cellular device) with h-boot .98
i was trying to gain s-OFF but all methods were either for .93 or 1.06 and i dont know how to get there. do i need to flash new firmware before i can do ROMs?
he is fully rooted, but only on android 2.1 and he wants gingerbread sense...
any help would be much appreciated!
PLEASE
Revolutionary.io supports the HBOOT 1.06 for cdma, but it should the 0.98 as well.
If not, flash the latest firmware, then do the revolutionary procedure .
or you can just use unrevoked, it roots and S-OFF's the CDMA Desire.

since your on 2.3.5 you most likely have hboot 2.18. Your root method is going to be HTCdev.com. After you s-on unlocked with HTC dev you can either downgrade to a earlier version like froyo or GB and root with unrevoked or revolutionary or you can stay s-on unlocked but lose out on certain things because you wont be fully NAND unlocked(s-off) just unlocked s-on

I would rather use revolutionary as I've rooted a few other people's evo's with that method and it went fairly smooth. What im confused about is the hboot. I have to get the hboot to atleast 2.16.0001 and simply flashing a GB rom won't do that right? Simply flashing a rom wont affect radios ect. With S-on unlocked you CANT flash radios or hboots so you have to do a certain process in order to downgrade. I have it to where it is currently running Froyo. I followed all of the instructions. I'm not trying to root it using unrevoked as after downgrading, the root access was taken away. The unrevoked app pushes the recovery and sits at a status of "installing unrevoked3 service..." and never finishes. That's where i'm stuck at. I'm not new to rooting, just didn't have to go about it this way the last time. If unrevoked keeps failing, then I will give revolutionary a try if it supports froyo.

I'm not new to rooting, just didn't have to go about it this way the last time. If unrevoked keeps failing, then I will give revolutionary a try if it supports froyo.

I've never used unrevoked so I have no idea how it works. Always felt that revolutionary was more simpler. Revolutionary only supports hboot 2.16 and 2.15 so you can take a ota just make sure its not the 4.67 ota

I did the OTA which upgraded me to 2.33 and hboot 2.16 and tried running revolutionary. Installed the fast boot drivers as well. receiving this error:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. rawadb_open: remote closed the
connection looking for target "sync:"
Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again.
Press (almost) any key to exit.
There is nothing using any usb port. This is becoming frustrating now

s-off, latest radios, and running MikG3.11...rooted with revolutionary after the long process of downgrading to froyo and upgrading to GB; unrevoked simply wasnt working correctly. An unrooted phone is just wrong on so many levels! LOL! Thank you guys much for all of your help! It's members like you who make this forum so great!
you can use htcdev to get s-off then use revolutionary to gain root.
