i dont mean to be a noob. but i was wondering can flashing to many roms in one sitting kill your evo? ie one after another in the span of 5 minutes.
any tips would be much thanked.

Short answer: No.
Technically NAND has only so many writes but your phone is constantly writing.
I have a feeling there'd be a lot of dead EVOs around here if that were the case.
i was just wondering.

Could you elaborate on this? NAND limited or something?
i posted this a couple months ago, but still seems fit.
from my understanding, flash memory starts to deteriorate after 45,000 wipes. Simple math states:
1 year on evo = 123 flashes per day
2 years on evo = 61 flashes per day
3 years on evo = 43 flashes per day
4 years on evo = 31 flashes per day
5 years on evo = 25 flashes per day
... and you notice a regressive curve, eventually equaling 1 flash per day ~123 years.
i would start to be concerned around years 60-80 taking hardware deterioration into account.
however, if you save 1 penny per day (assuming cost of phone is $500 excluding rebates) it will take 137 years to purchase a new phone
saving $10/day will take 50 days, but is similar to the monthly cost of a new car (excluding down payment, tax and tags) which should only account for 8% of your monthly income which would equal $3800/month or an annual income of $45,600/year
recommendation: buy a new phone within the next 4 years
and my power button just cracked

My dad is providing me with $500 for my birthday.
Everything else aside (lol), should I spend this money on an Evo 4G, despite all the problems it has, or should I wait till the Tegra 1Ghz Dual-core phones come out by the end of this year?
if you're willing to wait, then it makes no sense to purchase an evo right now.
You should wait until next christmas for 2ghz dual core cellphones....

2 votes to wait for dualcore.
I suppose I should've made this a poll.
You should spend your 500$ on high pressure sodium lights, seeds, and white paint. Then buy an Evo when you have $5000.

Yeah, the dual cores aren't far off but if your dad tosses $500 at you every few months then go ahead and get an EVO, if you keep it in good shape you'll get $150 - $200 for it in Dec.
If $500 from your dad is not a common occurrence then hold off, although, will you still have phone money by the time they come out?

No, what he should do is wait until Christmas 2013-14 when the QUADCORES!!!!! come out. Then, he'd be able to have the latest android 3.9 twinkie with dinner making capabilities and the htc handjob widget.
Get the evo. This time next year you will be able to upgrade your phone if up wish. Wait till the end of the year and it will be a year and a half before upgrade is possible. Two if on a server besides sprint. The evo is a great phone. The Tegra sounds good on paper but in real life, who knows.

I've had my Evo 4G since release day, and have been rooted pretty much the whole year I've had it. I've probably flashed over 100 different Roms on it (like twice a week sometimes). Has anyone noticed their phone sorta... crapping out on them. I mean, I use my Evo daily like mad, so it's definitely done me a good service these last 365.
Basically my question is, does treating your phone like a refillable flask of whiskey hurt it? Flash abuse? Flashoholicism on my phone, is it as damaging as alcoholism on me?
I'm scared!
Nah im sure flashing roms/kernels/themes a lot wont hurt ur phone
my phone isnt really crapping out
Flashing doesn't cause damage to the phone more than using it does.
NAND DOES have a limited number of writes, yes, however....you are writing to your phone any time it is powered on even if the screen is off.
So, no, doesn't cause damage.
Thanks for the response guys.
I can breathe a little easier now.
i know you think you have flashed alot but believe me, i have more
and not just roms. mods, keyboards, themes kernels anything really. i never use a rom daily i even keep some roms on my sd card for whenever i feel like switching to it.
and i have never had any problems. its still fast, sleek and i still show this bad boy off

best option in my opinion would be to wait/resist with ur current phone as is, untill you find an other new phone to buy (doesn't worth spend to much money for an "old" phone)..after the MWC lots of new phone will be out, and lots of some of the current phones will drop their price

Just wanted to take a minute to thank all the Devs and everyone that helped during my time with the Epic Touch. My company has issued me an (YUK) Iphone so I just could not justify spending the 80.00 per month keeping the Epic. I love android and hate apple so this was a tough decision but felt I had to give it a go. I did get 280.00 for the epic with Best Buys buy back program ( best 35.00 I ever spent) and may end up back with a Galaxy s 3 but for now it is Iphone only. I almost threw up typing that. Thanks again for the great fun and all the help, I still HATE APPLE.

As ashamed I am I have to admit that I have an iPhone as well.
And it's isued by the company as well.
But too many people in too many places have my personal phone number so it's not that easy for me to move to another number (lucky me).
So I run around with 2 phones.
And since we have a family plan it's not $80 for me but rather 20 or 30. I can take it.
Hope you will be back soon.
Sorry to see that you must leave and hope that you come back to us. I also had an iPhone for about 6 months when I changed jobs. I am pretty much just like Agat said. But luckily I was able to switch the iPhone for an S3 a few weeks ago. So all is right again Anyway good luck in your endeavors!

They had a buy back program that cost 35.00 if you use their insurance which was 9.99 per month. They will buy back the phone at a percent of the original value, not the contract value when you get ready to trade it in. The phone sells for 699.00 at Best Buy without contract so I got 280.00 to sell it back after 11 months. They have canceled this program and only allow current buy back customers to take advantage of it. I can see why they discontinued it.

---Jay--- From the GNexus™
3 businessman go into a hotel to rent a room
The room is $30
each man puts in $10
After the men go to the room
the clerk realize he's over charge them by $5
He calls over the bellhop and give him the $5 to return to the men
On the way to the room the bellhop realize he can split the $5 evenly among the three men
So he puts $2 in his pocket and gives the three men back $1 each
So the men have now spent $9 each
3 times 9 = $27
the bellhop has $2
Which comes to $29
where is the 30th Dollar?
Sent from the "DOG" pound
They couldnt have spent 9 each because they were overcharged by 5 dollars so two of them really spent 12 and one of them 11 that makes 35. So when they got back the dollar they really had spend 11 and of them 10 and the clerk got his 2. That's what I can think.

Ok, this is actually very easy. The problem of this problem is that you have 2 independent counters (one for paying and one for the change) which you have mixed up and that's why you get different values for the equation (one starts form 1 and ends at 30 and the other starts form 29 and ends at 0) (look at them like vectors). So you should count like this: They pay 10 each = 30, but they should've payed 25. Ok, assume they have payed 25 and receved 3$ for the return, now they have 28 + 2.
The main thing is to realize that you have 2 vectors instead of one.
Or if you are more into C/C++ another way you can look at them is like a vector and it's index numbers. The vector starts from 1 and the index from 0.
Another good example of this would be if you count the fingers of one hand without counting the last one twice. You'll end up with the number 9 instead of 10.

I have, you asked where the 30th $ went. I told you, it hadn't gone anywhere, you are just watching two different vectors... That's all I'm saying. Everything else is just for clarification. Obviously I've failed at that, but the ground assumption is correct, right? (having two vectors)
