[Q] ePST no Longer Accessible? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I used to be able to get into ePST with the ##778# short code. However, it no longer opens. I tried a lot of other things to get it going including re-installing the APK and wiping my caches, but it still won't come up. Anyone have any thoughts (short of punting)?

What rom are you on? I think this will only work on sense based framework roms. And even then I'm not sure if you can simply install it like a normal app, could be wrong tho.

Always wondered-
What is that EPST thing anyway?

RMK's debloated/rooted stock 2.3.3. I restored from a Nandroid after trying MIUI again (which is still buggy as hell BTW), and I think that's when I noticed it was no longer working.

ePST allows you to access the CDMA programming portion of your device. It's where tethering is unlocked, and you can break a whole lot of stuff in it.

Just confirmed on my rooted stock DInc2 it exists there. Could be a ROM related issue?

Could be, but I'm on a stock ROM and it worked before. I guess I may just have to do a complete wipe.

Did it work when you were on the debloated rom before? Apps normally don't make it a habit of deleting themselves. My guess is its in the stock rom you used and when you flashed the debloated version it was removed as bloat. Have you tried pulling it from the stock rom and installing it in rmk's rom?

It actually worked in RMK's ROM... I'm planning to give the China Telecom 2.3.4 ROM that andybones made from the RUU posted by relay a go, and if it doesn't work, I'll do a full wipe and completely reinstall RMK's ROM.

Well, the China Telecom one was a bigger debacle (no working 3G), so I wiped everything, but back on the rooted stock and updated with RMK's patch and everything is golden.

A boot loop in every custom ROM installed?

Hi, my Evo is a launch one (HW002). Ive been running Magnus ROM for the last month, but today I decided to give Virus's ROM a try, and after download and 3 wipes of the usual suspects (cache, dalvik, data) plus the Format All zip, I flashed my ROM but when I came back I was stuck on a boot loop. So I nand back to Magnus again, and then decide to flash Kings 2.3 Sense ROM, and also had a boot loop! This has never happened before, and I was able to nand back to Magnus..... is there something wrong with my phone, that is not letting me flash ANY new ROM at all???
Well I don't own eco but I think u should format data and stuff before flashing and go back to stock and start all over and also I would never try a rom with the name virus smh

What recovery are you using to flash the rom? Clockwork or Amon ra? What radios are you on? Which Virus rom were you trying to flash? I've never had trouble.trying.to boot any of his.roms, they are usually solid.

Hmm, that's odd. Are you sure the files you're trying to flash aren't corrupted? You said you did a full wipe, including a format all, so an improper wipe is ruled out. I unfortunately don't have a lot to suggest. I think if that was happening to me, I would first try reflashing my recovery, and then try wiping and flashing again.

I wish I had more to try suggesting for you. Its odd that both of the roms you tried flashing were sense based 2.3 roms. I wonder if you're phone doesn't like the kernel that comes cooked into those roms. I think virus's 2.3 rom uses the same kernel as the 2.3 king's rom. Perhaps after you flash the rom, you could power off the phone, take out the sd card, and try booting it without the sd card in it. I've heard of weird booting issues being caused by an issue with the sd card. It certainly couldn't hurt anything to try it, but I would think that if that was the issue, you'd have trouble booting any rom. I'd still try it though.

If his phone doesn't like the stock kernel, I'd recommend flashing a custom kernel in the same session, after wiping the cache and dalvik after he flashes the rom.

Right, which is definitely what I'd normally suggest. However, since he's trying to use the new Sense 2.3 roms, there arent really any custom kernels for those roms yet. Some people have reported success with Netarchy's, but it breaks the camera app. Other people reported loops with netarchy. Basically, there arent any custom kernels for any 2.3 GB + sense roms yet, so his kernel switching is limited. He could try another one, and may have it work, as some other people had reported. But his camera won't work!

I had already tried another ROM ( Myn's Warm Z) just to see if it is the kernels and the Sense 2.3 combination, but that didnt give me any problems at all. So Im guessing it is the kernel included in those ROMS. I will try your suggestions, though, just to see if they actually make a difference. Thanks for the kind help.

Damn. That sucks. I'm not sure what would be causing that. You wiped, you tried a different kernel, your radios and PRI are updated, you tried booting without the SD card in place. I'm not sure what'd send you to bootloops. Did you happen to try updating to the most recently leaked radio? The one that was in the dump from the leaked gingerbread rom? Although I doubt that'd make any difference, but you never know. I flashed it the other day, and it works just as good as all the other ones. I never really notice a major difference from changing radios. But the leaked one does work.

[Q] Someone Help Please?

Hey guys, I seem to be having a problem on my phone recently.. Every time I start it up, or try to load an app or something, I get a message saying the process ends. This happens with Google Apps, Gingerbread Keyboard, Etc. I've tried wipe x3 then reflash, but it doesn't do anything.
I'm running
Genocide Kernel, Firmware 2.2.1, And Simply AOSP v3.1.2
I believe it's still on SFR 1.2 , but it's not saying that in the build number so I'm not sure..
someone please help.
If you have a good nand backup you can do a factory data reset and then restore advanced data. That will clear up any of the FCs. Or clear data in each of the apps giving you problems in settings>applications>manage applications>all and scroll to google services framework and click it and clear data. Do the same for the Gingerbread keyboard and any other app FCing.

Sounds like you did not have journaling enabled. The Factory Data reset and a reflash of your ROM should fix it. Find out how to enable journaling for your ROM and do it.

When you install a new ROM like AOSP all of that is gone. If you want to do SFR and Genocide instead of AOSP then go ahead. We should get you up and running first though and then you know the steps to take when it screws up again.

I would suggest either pming or posting on the AOSP thread what setup you're on and how best to convert to their Rom. Sometimes they've heard of conflicts or tricks that they can walk you through. I love SRF, but if you want to explore, you should know what works best to transition. You'll get it going, just keep toying. Worst you have to do is Odin and that's not terrible for the phone now and again.

This is partially true. If you were to flash say.... Cm7.0.1 to Cm7.1, it doesn't wipe. It just updates. Or to better explain, if it's the same ROMs, usually you won't have to wipe. But from Froyo to Gingerbread I do believe it will wipe for you. Either way I would wipe anyway going from Froyo to GB. Most ROMs now have everything working. I'd personally recommend Decks 1.3d or CM7 #256 for AOSP. MikG or Kingdoms for Sense. I've heard good things about them. But I've never been a fan of Sense so.... Not much help there.

Technically true, however you should ALWAYS do a full wipe between flashing, even if you are flashing a rom update. I have always had problems when flashing an update and not wiping.

[Q] Can someone help me fix my wifi?

About a week ago my just wifi and tether stopped working.
What happens:
When attempting to "toggle on" toggle will switch from on then back to off after several minutes sometimes the toggle will grey out
Things I have done to try to fix it:
-Factory data reset
-Reflashed ROM
-Flashed different kernals
-Flashed different radios
-Flashed different ROMS everything from cm7 to cm10 and sense based roms
Additional info:
Wifi and tether were working the night before, my battery was low so my phone died with tether still on. I plugged it in and left it alone until the next morning
ROM I was using at the time: Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 w Aero14

If the wifi *never* works, it may be that your kernel driver for the wifi device is either not installed or doesn't match the current kernel. If it works some of the time then fails, it's probably broken hardware.
Fixing the kernel problem means you'll need to find a kernel update zip and flash it in recovery. See the dev forum to find one

[Q] Kernel Crashing

Tried IRC, so I'm going to try here also.
Anytime I use a ZVB or ZVC based ROM, the kernel crashes within 10-15 seconds of being flashed. No matter which of those based ROMs I use, I get the kernel crash in the same time period. I've tried different kernels as well, but none have worked. I've use Awesome's Kernel Cleaner each time before flashing the kernels, but get the same result.
Here's the kicker though, if I use any of the AOSP ROMs it will run fine. My only problem is there was no EFS backup, so I get no service, which pretty much makes using the 4.3.x+ ROMs useless. Basically, I'm trying to get back to stock ROMs so I can get service and save the EFS to use on the later ROMs. If I can even just get the ZVC ROM working that would be great too.
I'm not sure if there is a AOSP kernel stuck in there or something, and it's not clearing it out, or what is going on. I'm doing a complete wipe with data everytime I flash.
I appreciate any help, and thank you for taking the time to read!

Are you wiping /system too? If in TWRP 2.5.0.0, wipe>advanced click all 4. If 2.6.x.x all BUT internal data
He told me in irc that this originally happened after the screen broke and he replaced it. After that anything stock gives a kernel crash but aosp doesnt.... if that helps anyone trying to help him.

Using 2.6.3.0, and wiping everything but SD card. Wiping 3x before installing ROM, gapps and kernel. Tried multiple stock based kernels. Can install CM or Slimbean and it will boot no problem, and work fine. It's just the stock ROMs, and tried Lifeless as well.
Guess this has everyone stumped huh?

There's always LGNPST. Only other option to see if it'll fix it.

Tried that with the stock ZV9, ZVB and ZVC. Even used LG flash.
Here's an idea that came in my head. Maybe it's crashing when it tries to connect to the Sprint network. Since the AOSP ROMs never attempt to connect to it, they don't crash. But the stock ROMs do, so they crash when attempting.
If I'm not rooted, I get just a reboot. If I run SuperSU from TWRP before rebooting, then I get the Kernel Crash screen when it reboots.
