Sprint bill is over $800 this month for roaming - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I had to go out of town for 3 weeks due to medical emergency and while their I had to call Sprint to ***** about my ****ty signal and dropped calls constantly because of lack of service. I talked to the rep for about an hour trying various things. Updating my prl, profile, discussed the no sprint tower availability and that the coverage was in the fair to poor category. Not once did she mention that I was using my 1500 minutes talking to my wife (also on sprint) for the many many hours we spent on the phone. Their were times we were on the phone for 3 hours discussing not only her own medical issues but those of my 2 siblings. So we just get back from another trip to come home to an $850 phone bill to find out for the first time that when you roam EVEN if you are talking to someone on your own plan with a sprint phone, you will use up your 1500 monthly minutes. This has never been discussed or explained to us and when purchasing my Evo back in October of last year and signing up for a $170 a month phone bill, she assured us that it was anytime mobile to mobile and unlimited sprint to sprint phone calls. Even while roaming according to the sales *****. .. err person. They have offered to cut the charges in half but I told them to stick it and were bailing but honestly, I would have to ditch my 2 year contract and my wife would have to go take her Photon back that she just got. .. In the end.. I don't even want to deal with all this hassle but find it absurd that not one person would call us and say hey.. I know you've been a customer for 5 years and all and your bill has never reached this level but you may want to look at changing your plan.. No.. they let the already struggling American's **** themselves and just keep charging them up the ass till they make a house payment for their phone bill.. I'm very sorry for my language but I am furious and am just trying to check my options here.. I ended up telling the guy half was not good enough and that we will be closing our account. You'd think that in today's economy they would be nice enough to give their customers a headsup but I guess if it's going to their pocketbook why bother.. Thanks for any tips or solutions that I could use to try and remedy this. We just honestly don't have $400 to just dish out for our normally $170 bill. Times are tight as is to have to deal with this. Not to mention we just got back from another trip that cost us almost as much if not more. ..

Ask to speak to retentions. They r the ones that will truly help u out. U don't have to give a reason to the car on the phone why u want to speak to the retentions dept either. If that retentions person is unhelpful hang up and call again and start process again. Eventually Ull find someone who actually cares and wants to help. There are crappy people in every company as well as people who truly care about their jobs and the people they help. Also in retentions ask to speak to a manager. They usually have even more authority to override the bill.
If u have to call back Ull most likely end up in an entire different place cause there are multiple calling centers.

That's what I was telling my wife. I'll just try again tomorrow and hope for the best.. Thanks for giving me hope! I do know that I was able to reach 2 people to replace my defective evo's without even having to pay the insurance on them so I know they can do this.. or the right person can do this.. Thanks again for your positive outlook!

T-Mobile = Horrible customer service??!?!?

I've heard the rumors... T-Mo's customer service is legendary. They're the best in the game. Everyone says so!!
Rewind: October 2007. I was a Sprint customer. After 3 years of hell with Nextel, no service in Rhode Island, replacement phones, billing errors, and long wait times, I became an ex-Spring customer when I threatened to leave Sprint for T-mobile, and the customer service SUPERVISOR said to me "You do what you have to do..." *click* and hung up on me. So I did just that... I walked into a t-mobile store and bought a wing.
Fast-forward: Today. It's now 6 months later. I've had 3 warranty replacements on the Wing, then (because I was fed up with the wing) I asked for an alternate model. They told me the only other "multiple exchange" model was the Dash. So they sent me a dash (which I can't figure out because it's cheaper). That was 3 weeks ago. Today, I noticed a bunch of white lines on my screen (see my other post for a screen shot).
I just got off the phone with T-mobile. They confirmed that this is a problem with the Dash, and the brackets holding the screen apparently break for no reason at all, causing this problem. It can happen for any or no reason at all. Well, the wing might be slow and lock up and reboot itself when it wants (though I fault t-mobile's ****ty software for that) but at least it kept it's screen in tact.
So I told them I wanted a wing back. They refused, because I did not qualify for the multiple exchange, since it was only my first dash. I told them I needed a phone that DIDN'T lose it's screen at random, so I wanted the Wing back (which is what I originally paid $300 for) and they said no, because that only applies if I had 2 or more defective dash's. What the hell is wrong with this company!?!? They can't send me a Blackberry Curve (even though it's the EXACT same price as the Wing), they can't send me ANYTHING, not even a basic phone. They said if I wanted the wing now, it would cost me $400!!!
Now, looking back at Sprint, with their new CEO (who has vowed to clean up customer service) and their newest plan (simply everything), and the coolest phone I've ever seen (the Sprint "Touch") I think I'm going to pay the early termination $200 fee and switch back to sprint when I get my $600.00 economic stimulus check from the government in May, and I told the t-mobile guy that too. He said "Well, sorry to hear that, but there's nothing we can do for you..." <-- What the hell is that??? What happened to customer service? I left Sprint because they sucked, and now they're getting better and T-Mobile sucks.
Looks like I picked a bad time to leave Sprint and an even worse time to join T-Mobile.
WARNING TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT SWITCHING TO T-MOBILE OR BUYING A PDA FROM T-MOBILE: DON'T do it!!! If it's a bad model, you'll be stuck with it!!
I am SICK of getting new phones every month in the mail. It takes me about 6 hours to get my phone looking & acting the way it should. I have to flash the ROM, copy pim.vol, change the theme, remove the stupid "callstart.wav" file, hack the **** out of the registry, and set up email, internet connections, and everything else. I've wasted countless days of my life doing this.
I've reached the end of my tether. I hope a perspective T-mobile customer reads this and it helps them decide to NOT go to T-mobile. Likewise, I hope a higher-up at T-mobile reads this and gets the message.
LMFAO Dude grow up.

Looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today! I for one would never EVER go to sprint. I don't care how much 3g or EV-DO they have...I used to be work for sprints technical support desk and i absolutely hated it! all they cared was for you to get off the phone as quickly as you could try to sell some add-on crap that you didnt need... retrigger the IOTA (internet over the air refresh) and get off the phone ASAP! and the reson why the tech do this is they dont get a bonus if they dont have an average call time under 7 minutes! i went to work for them thinking it was a technical job and all it was , was a front for over the phone sales! i was only there for 8 months and i hit the door as soon as the opportunity arose.
Maybe its you, not the phones. Ever think about that.
T-Mobile is not here to exchange any phone "YOU" decide to mod, drop, throw, dunk, etc.
They have a limit on how many, per customer, can get an exchange.
There is a thing called insurance you can buy from them, for this specific reason.
Pay up to keep getting a new phone every 4-6 months.
And see, I am the exact opposite of what the first poster said, I am a current SunCom Wireless customer, who was just bought out by T-Mobile, and I have had nothing but good things from TM's customer service. I called them about getting a Wing, and if they would provide me with a TM SIM card that would work with my SunCom plan....which wont work of course, so instead they say-"Hold on one moment and let me look at your account...(so I give em my account number, a SUNCOM account number mind you)and the dude comes back and says, well with your anytime rewards(basically 5USD off of a new phone that yoy get for every month you stay with SunCom), you can get a Wing for 249.99, and we will go ahead and SIM unlock it for you before we ship it, so that you can use it with SunCom. Then when SunCom and TM become one company, we will send you a TM SIM card(because thats what they are doing with everybody) and you will still be able to use your SunCom services and current billing prices." So of course I say hell yeah, and give the guy my debit card number, and he comes back and says, "Oh, and you also qualify for free next day air!" so hell yeah, I do LOVE TMs customer service already, and im not even one of their customers yet! BTW, teh Wing=AWESOME!
I sort of had a similar experience.
I had a Shadow, and did not like it, I really wanted the Dash to begin with..
I called and asked to send the Shadow back, and that was fine, but they wanted me to pay $200 upfront.
After thinking about it, I said no.
Called back asked for a supervisor, who immediately called the proper department, got my phone sent out FREE, gave me the rebate instantly, and also sent me a free bluetooth headset.
I have no problem with T-mobile, but if you do, call back and ask for a supervisor.
I LUV me dash and I think that Tmobile is probably the best mobile phone company. Hell they didn't ever try to sell up, but they did help me downgrade my plan with courtesy and respect and no additional months on my contract.
As to your problems with the Dash, I am sorry I would still get another. Even great products have some problems with them. I have had my Dash for over a year and couldn't possibly be more pleased. I keep it in a case and it is in pristine condition. My contract is over and I really would like a 3g device but there isn't anything I would like more than the dash out there. Especially with google's web page compression and the opera mini.
I work at IT at a hospital and most...no every smartphone has KNOWN problems with them. Please don't ask about getting a TREO..... You won't see known issues broadcast anywhere unless you are an major enterprise client. Cellular companies don't usually ever mention problems to nickel and dime clients.
My sister has major problems keeping a working cellphone for more than 4 months since they stopped making them large plasic bricks in the 90's. She has had her Dash for over a year as well. It has a large crack in the screen (no actual harm just a large crack). Various large gashes and the power button has to be pushed extra hard but it's still workin! So if you ask me it is a brick.
Tmobile is different. They only have edge no 3g at all that is a dealbreaker with enterprise clients. They only have nickel and dime clients. I think in general Tmobile have to be nice to their personal clients and they are. Just don't put a pink logo on your website!
Allright... for those of you telling me to "Grow up" and "Maybe it's not T-mobile, it's you" First of all, I'd like to remind you that I'm at least being polite to you. See, I reply to topics to give USEFUL information, not scathing remarks. That makes for somethign we like to call "a pleasant atmosphere". Perhaps you've never heard of that before. So how about YOU grow up? Thanks
I'd also like to point out that "I" am hardly the reason for the following WING issues:
Phone #1: Random reboots, battery lasted for 2 hours max, touch screen would stop working, and only come back after a reboot.
Phone #2: Extremely slow (timed: 34 seconds for the start menu to appear after pushing the start button.. OUT OF THE BOX), random reboots.
Phone #3: Internet would not work at all. On the phone with PDA Tech support who walked me through everything he wanted me to do, then finally HE suggested replacing the phone.
Phone #4: Would not power on at all.
Phone #5: The dash: Everything is working fine. Today, while sitting on my desk (e.g. not being dropped, submersed, etc.) a bunch of white lines appear on my screen. A member of this board said he had the same problem, and even T-Mobile said it was a known issue...
I'm sorry, but please explain to me HOW that is "me" and not t-mobile!??! You've obviously proven to me what great intelligence you have by demonstrating your innate, Jedi-like ability to sit at a keyboard and say "Dude, grow up" and "Maybe it's you not t-mobile" So please explain, Captain SDA... I eagerly await your solution to "my" problems with these "perfect" phones.
My mom once told me "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Clearly your moms never told you that, Perhaps you should ask YOUR mom for that same advice. Judging by your superior online personalities, that shouldn't be too hard: Just leave your basement and walk upstairs. I'm sorry you don't understand the value of a dollar, and the fact that I have now spent $300 on a phone that doesn't work, and I religiously pay my bill for a service I can barely use. I'm sorry that upsets me. You're right, I shouldn't complain about that.
*** sigh ***
For the rest of you: Thanks for the advice about going back to sprint. The only reason I'm even thinking about it right now is because of all the good things I heard about the new CEO and the changes he's making, and I'm excited about the Samsung Instinct as well as the Sprint HTC Touch, which I personally got to use and it was lightning fast!!
My point was that T-Mobiles history with you as their customer.
When i read the story, i thought, this guy has no luck with phones. Do you honestly think T-Mobile will start giving away replacements to a person that has a history of mishaps? Look at it from their point of view also.
The thing is these days, people think everything is about themselves.
Sorry if you hate my replies. I tell things the way I see them. I don't sugar coat anything.
If you had said THAT instead of "Dude grow up" at first, it would've been a little nicer, don't you think?? Do you think I don't have enough on my plate already, after bleeding out all kinds of money for a damn phone & service that I can't even use, without having to put up with wisecrack remarks??
Yes, I DO expect T-Mobile to stand behind their products.
I respect the hell out of calling shots as you see them, but I question HOW they're seen. Throw me a bone, will you??

SPRINT!!!
you know even if i had 10 phones break on me, through running normal software or even modified i would like the company to replace, even if it was my fault... thats what u pay insurance for and thats what makes great customer service. Think about it... how many people know more about the phones then someone that modifies them? not your average user, i referred about 15 people just because sprint is so good with me breaking my phone anyway i did( twice but w/e), not just a new phone but every little thing(a new box, battery, phone, 2x stylus, etc...). no need to grow up its a normal thing to worm someone about a HORRIBLE service provider, i've had sprint for a couple months no complaints, well maybe my bill once but i just shot them an email about my bill being $300, next day they gave me an extra $500. if u switch to sprint get the sero account and you may want to do it fast because no one knows how much longer that type of plan is going to be available....

Yea but the key element of your situation that makes it different from the person that made this thread is that you have INSURANCE! things are a whole heckofalot different when you have insurance. When you don't, you stand a chance at ending up like this poor guy! The only thing about insurance i absolutely despise is you always get a reburb.
I have to disagree...If i had a company and sold you a phone. If you modify the rom in any way, warranty is void.
I think even with insurance it gets voided. (I may be wrong)

Yes! Heck even if it didnt and the insurance covered only physical damage. I'd beat the heck out of the phone so it wouldnt turn on to find out which firmware or ROM was installed. I mean if you think about it , the phone companies make a buttload of money gettin $5 ( or more) a month for monthly insurance charges,,,, then the customer still has to fork out a deductible when they use the insurance. So trust me, I'd love to offer insurance. Lastly most insurance policies limit the nunber of exchanges to 2 or 3 per year. so it would insure that they couldn't abuse the insurance plan
it sucks about the issues you are experiencing, but do you think this is the right forum (no pun intended) for this issue? in my opinion, you will have better luck discussing this issue with mid - senior level management at T-Mobile USA; not with a bunch of people looking to modify their mobile devices.

I agree. The mods should close this thread
I have no other place to vent, and to be honest, I was hoping to get a former T-mobile employee (or someone) who would send me a PM or leave a post with a bit of a tip in it.
If nothing else, I'm outraged and I need to vent (something wrong with that??) It's only natural.
By the way, this has nothing to do with insurance... this is still warranty!! And how do you figure flashing the ROM voids the warranty?? It changes no physical part of the phone... and as long as you can flash the factory ROM back onto it, (thus making the phone still useable) what harm was done?
I see nothing in the warranty about flashing the ROM as being grounds for voiding.

[Q] Please help me.

I have 2 HTC Evo's and 2 Samsung Moments.
I want out of Sprint. They tried increasing my bill just 3 months into a 2 year contract. I was a victim of bait and switch.
Sprint says I am good to port out and cancel without ETF.
Please please please help me get my phones working on another provider!
I really don't even care if the internet works as I almost always have access to wireless internet via my phones. However; fully functioning phones would be great too?? I guess it depends on what is "do-able"
I am pretty sure the 4G wont work..... but it doesn't work in my area anyway.
I have been reading for the better part of 2 days....
Some say it can be done, some say you need to pay someone to do it...there is so much conflicting information out there....then I found this place.
Sorry but I just got laid off and paying for help is out of the question. I will however; send MANY positive vibes your way.
You guys seem to really know your stuff.
Thanks in advance for your time.
Sorry for the bother.

Not gunna happen dude sorry.... not unless you have another cdma cell compqny like cricket or metropcs. There are roms in the dev section to do that.
They will not work on verizon that i am aware of or ever heard off and att us cellular and most others are gsm.... evo isnt a dual band phone.
Just go sell them and buy new phones.
And explain what "they increased my bill"is.
I am kind of in the same boat i think.
I signed up for 129 + 10 per evo (wife and i have 1 each)
And every single month my bill just gets higher and higher by a few bucks each month.
I was also told i get a 10% discount because of my employer and i have not seen a dime taken off.
Not only that but i dont even get 3g technically until late at night. After 8am until 8-10pm i only get 50-150kbps.
And frankly i am sick of it. I was lied to about the coverage and the network speeds by the retarded sprint store employees and i cant take it anymore.
The only time i cant really use the data on my phone is on wifi. Otherwise its jearly useless.

Thanks for your response. Really appreciate it.
The thing that REALLY gets me is they were arrogant about it. I spoke with 3 different people from Sprint, with one being corporate, and they all didn't seem to care in the least bit about losing me and my 5-6K over the next couple years??? Bad bad business...Something I will never forget.
It looks like I can have both Metro-Pcs and also Cricket in my area if I want them??
I was reading that in order to get the Sprint phones on Metro, you need to first get a phone(Their Brand) with them, and then add the other phones electronically via their web site??
Didn't read much on Cricket yet.
Also.....I have never flashed a phone before but I can follow directions pretty well...(I'm married)
Which service it better Cricket or Metro? I read that Metro's internet is junk but again that doesn't bother me b/c wireless is pretty readily available.
Thanks
TF
Sorry...here is the low down on them increasing my bill:
I posted this at Hofo too:
I am so disappointed in Sprint. I am cancelling and will never return and also vow to tell everyone that will listen just how underhanded Sprint is.
I was mislead by sales both in store and on the phone with C/S.
In researching phones and service, we kept getting the sales pitch from Store employees and customer service people that "Sprint discounts the ENTIRE bill...not just the first one or two lines." That was a MAJOR selling point in almost every rep we spoke with. Honestly, this is what lead me to pay ETF'S from VZW to come aboard. It also led me to cancel my home phone service, give away my GPS, purchase chargers/skins etc...
I am into Sprint for at least 1K....
Considering we (mostly all) purchased the EVO'S and Samsung 4G's on release dates, we are now 3-4 months into a 2 year contract and Sprint decides to "remind" us that the discounts are no longer valid on lines 3-4.
You can't remind someone about something that was never told to them to begin with. I believe that would be more "informing" than "reminding"??
I have documented this in my series of bills....I was never told....only reminded.
Funny thing is Sprint knew before releasing these 2 phones that they were going to tuck it to their customers.
There is no way that a company of Sprints size could conceive of and implement a policy such as this in a couple months. It had to first be conceived of, second go to legal, third be approved by corporate, employees educated and trained how to handle IRATE customers etc... (Possibly not in this order?). Point being...SPRINT KNEW ABOUT THIS ALL ALONG.
It is not a matter of the 10 or 15 bucks extra a month. I don't want to do business with a company that aggressively sells you on a pricing point, and 3 months into a 2 year contract tries to fleece you for EVEN MORE money. As if the $10.00 premium wasn't enough??
KNOWING full well that people are into them for a lot of money, also knowing it is pretty damned difficult to activate these phones with other providers, and also knowing most people do not look at tiny boxes on page 2 of a bill....They are scum in my book. This was all calculated and down right deceptive....
What good is a contract if one party can make adjustments whenever that want? That is not a contract IMHO...It is a one sided license to steal and SHOULD be illegal. Can I send a letter to my car loan provider and "remind" them that as of next month, I will be paying 10% less? I think not!
Now, I must spend the time researching phones/providers AGAIN....The time and money WASTED on this is absurd....Every time I see a Sprint commercial I cringe...I WAS A BELIEVER...Now I will gop out of my way to stop everyone I know from doing business with these guys.
Let me add that I have no problem with modifying Terms but it needs to be done AFTER the contract is up, not 3 months into a 2 year.
Disgusted....If anyone can tell me how to get 2 EVO's and 2 Samsung Moments going on another provider, I would be forever grateful.
Also...to all of you that say, "Ahhhh it's only 10-15 bucks", You wont be saying that when Sprint implements the pay for data usage plan they are probably working on as I write this.
What they have done would be illegal for 99.9% of the population....Who regulates these guys? Seems like a free for all to me??? They do what they want, make CRAZY money, and pay 5-10% out in legal fees as a result....BAD BAD BAD business.
I'm done...thanks for reading.
you have to talk to Sprint's customer retention department, theyre the ones whose job it is to get stuff done for you. Some people have said they went straight up the chain to the executive in charge of that department and it worked out well for them, just search for his name and number

[Q] Get out of your contract without an ETF?

Ok guys, so I saw somewhere around here, a while back I think that Sprint changed some of it's fine print in the contract...Soooo, no one flame me or anything, but does anyone have any info on this? Thinking of jumping ship to verizon. I have 4 lines right now and pay around $176 a month and all the lines are still under contract for a while. I'm not set on going to verizon, but would just like to get some ideas....Thanks for any input....yes...I'm thinking about getting the iphone
edit: I think I found something...This was just on my latest bill, I did some research and any change to the previous contract is a breach and you have 30 days to get out of your contract. Now, you can get out of your contract and still keep your service, just not be tied down to a fricken contract! Here is what was on my last bill:
Directory Assistance 411 Increase
Effective 3/1/11, the domestic Directory Assistance 411 base charge will increase to $1.99 per call.
Please let me know if I am wrong, but when I worked for Verizon this is the way it was for them too.
good thread, im interested in switching away from sprint too.
my service is horrible.
i dont get calls and my texts dont always come thru

Thanks, I'm sure a few people are interested in getting out...Have you called Sprint about it yet? Sometimes they're really helpful to me and sometimes they straight up lie to my face and say they gave me a $50 credit and I'll call back a few days later to see where it is and they have "no idea" and then wont give it to me...I guess I was a little let down after this ****ty ass "announcement" they made tonight...I've been with 'em for 8 years and really don't want to switch, but it's starting to look like that.
Nothing will get you out of the ETF right now, Sprint has been really careful with their changes lately. The Premium Data fee, Sprint Premier, 411 charges - none of those are a change to your current contract. The only way out is if you roam too much and they kick you off the network.

Same here, some days I can't reach my wife if she's at home because the phone won't ring and my texts won't go through for a while. I tried to talk to Sprint about an Airave but they argued with me and said I'm in an "excellent coverage area" and told me no, even after contacting Executive Services. That was the last straw for me.
Change your PRL to a VZW PRL and start hitting them HARD for data. According to the terms of service, they can give you the boot for anything over 300 megs per month or more than 50% of all data as roaming data. If you're rooted on all the phones, do them all at the same time and then Sprint will want you all dead.

LOL sprint will put a hit out on you
Sent from my Evo while i should be working
I was doing some reading on and i read that if sprint can't cover you in a place they don't offer service you can complain and they will waive the ETF, for example tell them you are being relocated to somewhere overseas where they don't offer any type of service, if they can't accomadte you they will let you out, i haven't tried this soooo i can't confirm

I called and got an Airave for free. What you have to do is set up a consistent series of calls with them. It took me three calls but I got it. Then again, I had a legitimate issue.
Essentially, call every time there is an issue. Write down the time it happens, what happened, and where you were. Call sprint and tell them what the issue is. They may transfer to you an "advanced" tech department. Or, they may tell you to come in to the store to have your phone checked out.
As we all know, it most likely isn't your phone because it is happening on multiple lines. Decline going to a store. Insist on speaking to the advanced tech department. Tell them your problem and they will do something on their end. Wait until that "resolves" (which usually it doesn't because the coverage is strong in that area). Then call back again and complain. Try to get transferred to retentions and see if you can get one.
yep
They would not let me out of the ETF but I was able to get a free airave myself. w00t! But I would still like to cancel and switch to BOOST mobile.

[Q] Deactivate the S3, Activate a Basic phone, Change Plans.

I have the S3 on the $89.99 Plan.
I want change the plan to the lowest priced plan available.
I see the only option I have with the S3 is the $79.99 plan, which is not much of a price difference.
Can I:
- Activate a Basic device I have (Motorola or Sanyo Katana,) which would then deactivate the S3.
- Change my plan from the $89.99 plan to the $29.99 Plan?
- Use the Basic device on the lower priced plan until I decide what Carrier to Port to.
Until I figure out what to do regarding changing Carriers, I want to give sprint as little money as possible, until I port.
I'll probably have to pay the $350 ETF, unless the BBB and/or the FCC decides otherwise.
Thanks.
What a Shister!
I'd bet against you but good luck.

Without going into too much detail, I've not been able to complete 90% of my calls for the past 2 months without them Fading, and where the other party cannot hear me clearly.
I'm on my 3rd S3 and the issues remain.
I've contacted Sprint multiple times, and have multiple tickets on record.
Sprint has been giving me the run around for 2 months since the issue began when I renewed my contract, continuing my almost 14 year affiliation with Sprint.
I cannot continue service any longer due to not being able to complete calls without issues.
Sprint has been unable to resolve these issues, and refuses to waive the ETF.
So I've written to the BBB and FCC, and hopefully they can intervene.
This is the reason for my inquiry in this thread.
Perhaps you may get a better understanding for why I'm asking, and maybe go throw your names around to someone else,
Sorry man. I effed up. I read it as you trying to get S3 to work with $30 plan. My apoliogies.
That being said, you should be able to do that if you didn't go through wirefly where they can charge you for cancelling smartphone data.

No sweat
I edited the op for clarification.
I hope you realize that the BBB can't do anything at all. They're a non-profit business rating firm, not an enforcer.
Can't hurt.
Going to send one off to the FTC, in addition to the PUC. Enough is enough already.
What ever it takes, that's what it will be.
Tired of paying my hard earned money and not receiving services.
I'm not even talking about Data, I'm talking about making a call.
Almost 14 years as a Sprint customer, and now I need to call 3-4 times on average to complete a conversation that should only take 1 phone call.
Over 2 months and counting.
Whatever it takes.
If Sprint had to face their customers face to face they wouldn't be pulling this crap like they do over the phone.
My calls have faded calling Sprint attempting to resolve these issues.
All I get is the Sprint Endless Circle of Non Resolution.
Sorry to hear about your issues.
We'll send out an engineer to check the Towers.
We'll call you within 48 hours.
The Towers are fine.
Must be your device.
Go to the store to have it checked out.
Your device is fine.
Oh, your device is fine.
We'll open up another trouble ticket.
We'll send out the engineers........
And on and on and on.......
Hours and Hours and Hours of Wasted Time.....
One moron in account services asked if I live near a body of water.
She said that can cause the issues I'm having, although Sprint doesn't know why the body of water causes these issues, but they do.
Are you crapping me??
You can't make this crap up boys & girls........
You can do this and once you switch to the other phone, your plan should automatically change. I have done this not to long ago. I had a sg3, bought a basic flip phone and had sprint activate the basic flip phone through the online chat. Took about 5 minutes. Once I had the phone activated, my extra $10 for premium data went away. It is possible and easy to do.
P.s. good luck with your case with sprint, I hope you can get out without paying that insane etf !!! Keep us updated if you can
Thanks.
Appreciate the support.
I'll definitely keep you updated.
I was posting in another thread started by someone else, about customers who are fed up with Sprint, but I started this thread great to avoid clutter.
I actually posted more updates in that thread about Sprint account services, and their attempt to run circles around me, which is what prompted me to contact the BBB and FCC.
I'll also submit to FTC, PUC.
Maybe even have an attorney write a letter on my behalf.
The sad part is that Sprint pays its employees to dish out the crap, so they get paid to bs us.
Guys like me, and girls, have to spend many hours and days trying to resolve these issues, Without being compensated for the much time it takes to attempt to do so.
That is why paying the ETF is usually the cheaper way to go.
Less wasted time and less aggravation.
It's just that you hate to let Sprint get away with getting paid for services that you aren't receiving.
It's Horrendous.
Not being able to complete a call without issue is extremely frustrating, especially here in NYC, one of the Largest, if not the largest market in the country.
Customers thinking of renewing or porting over to sprint should Not be Fooled by the Unlimited Data Ploy. Not only will you have extremely slow data in many cases, you may have Calling issues which is of more importance to most customers.
Even though you have 14 days to try the service and terminated the contract if you decide to, it's really 13 days, and usually if you're having issues, it'll be a few days until you realize the issues aren't an anomaly, but the norm.
You'll end up notifying Sprint, and then the BS will begin to ensure they keep you past the 14 days.
They will tell you that it's the Towers, and that they'll check it out for you quickly, and call you back.
Then a couple of more days will pass.
Then they'll tell you that you can get a replacement device, as that is likely the issue.
You'll go to the store, and order a replacement.
More days will pass.
You'll get your replacement device, and maybe for a day or so you'll think the issues have resolved, only to realize they have Not, and that you're past you're 14 day trial period, and that You're Crap Outta Luck.
If you leave, you'll have to pay $350 to do so.
Buyer Beware never rang so true.
Customer Service has reverted back to the bad old days of yesteryear.
I know all too well being with Sprint for so many years almost 14.
Too long........
I had a Better Idea...............
I just Ported over to VERIZON!
Had Best Buy Mobile handle the Port.
Saved $50 on my Blue S3 32GB
Seamless.
Sprint got some racket go'in on, and I'm Happy Not to be part of it Anymore......
....After 14 years...........
What a pleasure it is to be able to Complete a Call After over 2 Months!!
Btw, LTE, Yes, LTE is 11 Mbps DL, 17 Mbps UL
That's only 1 SpeedTest, and that's good enough for me.
No more 250 Kbps crap.
But the Important thing is that I can Complete a Call, and that's worth Dumping sprint...................GOLD!!

No.
I didn't get a final bill yet, but I'll be paying the ETF once I get the bill.
Account No Services wouldn't waive the ETF or reduce it.
I'll await a response from the BBB, FCC, etc.
I couldn't take 1 more day of non services from Sprint.
Not being able to complete a call without issue for over 2 months was Horrendous.
Sprint is Atrocious.
I hope many others decide to pay their ETF's and/or fight them, rather than stay with non services from sprint.
Sprint just Lost out on $2200 from me is how I see it.
I don't know why the FCC, FTC, Congress hasn't gone after Hesse and his Merry Thieves....
Can I sell my S3 now, or do I have to wait until I receive my final bill?
I already Ported.
Pretty sure you can sell it now..just call sprint and check the esn if you're concerned.

I'm still within the 14 day of my new contract with Verizon.
Which Carrier would you suggest to Flash to, with Everything working?
And I don't want anything affiliated with Sprint.
T-Mobile affiliates appear to be hit and miss, with a lot of miss.
At this point in time, Verizon appears to have the best coverage.
If you aren't getting phone service, you MUST send them a letter, and request a written response.
Stop using the phone to try and get this fixed.
Make SURE you always put "I am not receiving the service I am paying for" in every correspondence.
After you have a few letters from Sprint saying they do see your calls dropping, demand to be let go without ETF. If they don't, port out, and don't pay the ETF.
When they send you to collections, tell them you are sending your letters to the 3 collection agencies showing that they admitted to not providing service.
It's a tiny bill, and most credit agencies don't even look at small cellphone bills as a negative due to such poor service from all carriers.
I hear you about the emails.. I haven't written any correspondence since the issues began.. I have a few trouble tickets.. Usually I do email companies so I have written confirmation of issues, but in this case, I didn't, which is an oversight.
I was already told by account services they won't waive the etf, which is why I Ported a few days ago..
I will write an email also, as it's never too late to do so.
I have the issues logged into the Notes on my account. Sprint also said that even though my calls are Fading out, of which the reps experiences while I was speaking with them on multiple occasions, the calls don't show as dropping..
As for not paying the etf, I will exhaust all avenues of complaints to sprint, etc. Before I pay them.
Thanks for your advice.

anyone every have success having Tmobile pay/credit for ETF carrier fees to switch?

I'm currently with Sprint and would love to switch to Tmobile. That being said has anyone ever had Tmobile help pay or credit when switching to Tmobile?
i know i've read someone claiming that in the past but i cant' find the story via search. My closest corporate store is about 40min away so not sure its worth trying or not.

I'd be jealous if you actually manage to do so. I know I've seen some ancient posts on slickdeals where some folks have managed to do this albeit with a lot of negotiating. I was in the same boat as you. I ended up paying the ETF. I was already paying sprint for providing me with essentially nothing, it didn't make sense to wait out another year. I made the switch and couldn't be happier.
I had some success with this - but I didn't do all that much for it so it may be one of those right time/right place/right person asked scenarios. I was checking out a T-Mobile store and was chatting up the employee, and mentioned that I'd love to switch but it'll be a long time before I could afford it due to ETFs. I asked if they ever do anything about things like that, and was then put into contact with a T-Mobile rep that handles business accounts among other things (more of a corporate guy I would expect). He had me figure out what my ETFs were, and then said he'd put a same-value credit on my account if I switched. He mailed me a tester phone to try out even, which was nice. I ended up keeping that tester phone for my wife, and per his instructions went into the T-Mobile store I went to originally and got set up. I called him afterwards and he put the credit on my account. I couldn't believe it to be honest (it was a few hundred bucks - came from Verizon), but I was rather happy with the outcome. I still had to pay the ETFs out-of-pocket of course, but in exchange I didn't have a phone bill for a few months

Best thing you can do....
#1. Call T-Mobile and tell them you wanna switch carriers but don't sound set on them, mention verizon and att.
#2. If you have no problem paying $70+ a month, sell your current phone and head to costco or wirefly for a new line and a discounted device.
#3. If you want a cheaper monthly and can pay for a device upfront, ask t-mobile for a migration incentive, ask for a supervisor and if they don't satisfy ask for their supervisor.
T mobile has ran promotions for this in the past.
Not gonna happen though. Now that t mobile is all no contact they are not going to pay to get you out of your contact when there is no guarantee you will even stay with them because your not in a contract

good point. it totally forgot about their switch to no contracts
Just tried to see if they would provide any credit. The answer was no. They simply can't do it. Was looking to transfer 4 lines. Will have to wait when my ETF is over or Sprint terms change.
I got out
What I'm about to offer is good as a last resort, it worked for me, but i'm not a lawyer, and I'm only sharing this for those of you who are desp, and really want out of Sprint.
The only way I could find to get out without paying the ETF is to call sprint and tell them you are moving out of the country for a job relocation or something. They will ask you to prove it with an apartment lease, or utility bill, etc. The utility bill is hard to prove, but you shouldn't have a problem creating a lease agreement with a family member who lives abroad, etc.
In my case, I used an apartment of a friend, and made it all legit, and they let me out without paying ETF.
Sprint sucks.
Just do what I did with sprint, roam until they kick you out without ETF. Some people see this as cheating your way out but believe me after dozens of calls and complains about horrible service at home they didn't do nothing to help me. Just broken promises of service improvements, towers upgrades, etc. Before I hadsSprint I was with Verizon for 10 years and I never remember calling them because I had service issues.
So Sprint doesn't rape you with ETF fees anymore, when they kick you for roaming too much? That is a good thing. I know that they used to make people pay the fees even though they kicked their customer.
