....going borderline shakespere there, sorry about that.
for those users, if you are on a custom GB rom, like Buisiness Gingersense, Pure Speed, Shift, etc, you can do all the mumbo jumbo to go back to stock to grab the 2.3.4 update that you want. but, consider this, you will lose root, and not be able to obtain it for quite a while, remind me if i am wrong, but didn't it take a few months to get root when the dinc orginally got froyo back in september of 2010? (thank god for unrevoked)
but, again, losing root would mean some apps won't work right. and mainly, no CWM, and no custom roms right of the bat. yes i have the stock rom backed up here on my pc. but, as far as waiting, i'd do it. if you ask me i'd rather wait.
now, those that are not rooted, and have everything stock still, by all means, grab it up.
wanting and needing are totally different,if you don't absolutely have to have it then wait. the difference between what's new around the corner and what we have now isn't much different anyway. new radio isn't guaranteed to make data/signal better or worse. custom sense kernels doesn't help much for aosp with exception of glitchy 720p record/playback. this isn't highly needed by everyone. best to wait anyway since newer doesn't always mean better. might backfire if you take the plunge of impatience

i guess some people got ahold of the 07.07 radio...no real discernable difference, it's just an update.
Why unroot? Once it's posted on here give it 3 hours and a completed stock rooted rom will be released.

i would bet money that once the exe is up someone will rip it apart and may a rom and from there wildstang and joelz will have a rom out in hours and not months.
remember when the first leak was out? it was less then a day we had a working rom. then a week later we had a working rom with 3.0 sense.
I'll answer the question, I just un-rooted to pick up the update and boy does it suck. Wanna pull down the notification bar to turn off wifi or hit silent mode? Too bad. Do you like adding effects to your pictures? Photoshop express baby. Why isn't the flipclock working? Because it doesn't, that's why. Tried to switch my homescreens around and all that happened was nothing. Where are all the pictures in the menus? Not there is where.
I'm about to hit up Unrevoked and get Warm Synergy back on my phone. That was like... scary kinda. We've come a long way, fellas!

I remember that RMK had a flashable zip of the leak up in about an hour or two. Granted, it wasn't "tweaked" at all, it was just made available so you could keep root while trying the leak out.
Since everyone is anxious about it, especially since it went from "no the Inc won't get it" to "it's coming out in stages this week", I'll bet within a day we'll have a rooted stock ROM available to flash, and tweaked ROM's within a few days.
Just my $0.02.
Im staying rooted, waiting for the update to be flashable.

I may be wrong but if you have s-off you should be able to flash a custom recovery and there for be able to root the new ota or at least restore an old already rooted nandroid. At least thats what the unrevoked/forever site makes it sound like. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Basically football or somebody else is going to post a PB31IMG. zip. Somebody is gonna download it strip out everything but the boot.img, system and data folders. Add root and busybox and reupload. It's a little more complicated then that, but that's about it.

It's a completely different ROM, and most importantly, kernel. It's not going to work.

after the last update, I'm unconvinced that this update will be better than the Synergy ROM. I'd rather stay rooted, wait for flashable custom kernels to come out, and if the radio is any good, snag that, too. the last one was a nightmare with all that bloatware; can't imagine what sort of crap they added this time.

Hey guys. I currently have the UnrEVOked 3 "root" installed on my phone. I have to say that I've been pretty happy with it even though it doesn't have full root I can still use almost all the important ROOT apps.
Anyway, considering that the official 2.2 is supposed to come out within the next few days I was wondering if I could install it with the UnrEVOked on the phone or do I have to go back to the stock version? I have no idea how to go back to the stock version. If I need to go back to the stock version can someone please tell me how I can do that?
Thanks in advance!
Hmmm Froyo is not that cool. Id wait awhile to make sure you can still obtain root. Because you may not ever ever ever get root again with the new ota update. But if u must, install htc sync on ur computer then look on this site for 1.47 shipped supersonic rom. Download it, double click that chit, and u have a stock, battery draining, controlled by da man, 1/4 pound piece of chit. Have fun. We'll miss ya. Was fun having you haha. !!

ROFL.................ROFL
Hahaha, good one. The possibility of losing Titanium, SetCPU and the other root programs sucks. But if FROYO really delivers on all the things it says (installing apps to SD card, full flash support, much faster browser) I think I'm willing to chance it.
Just out of curiosity: What do you guys think would happen if I try to update the official FROYO update while I still have the unrEVOked on my phone?
Another question: If it is necessary to restore the phone to it's original state can I just do it through the MENU>SETTINGS>etc to restore it?
after HTC/Sprint releases the official 2.2, just wait a few days and someone will have a stock rooted 2.2, and quite possibly a few weeks down the line unrevoked will probably have a unrevoked 4 for 2.2....
vbyt,
I hear what your saying but I know myself. I'm going to have a big hardON to d/l FROYO the second it comes out. I'm not a very patient guy. I just want to make sure that I don't brick my phone trying to do it.

I'm in the same boat. My phone is rebooting everytime I get a call while I'm already talking to someone. I'm running Unrevoked @ 1.32.651.6. Can I at least easily go to the last OTA update somehow to see if that fixes my issues>? I still want Titanium to work tho. What's my best bet right now? I need my phone for business this week and I cant afford the phone to keep rebooting on me.
Is there a newer Unrevoked I can go to and what do I need to do to get there from 1.32.651.6/Unrevoked?
You know the devs are going to find a way to root the official 2.2
I have almost no doubt that they will. That is why I'm willing to give the official 2.2 a shot. I guess time will tell

Because as good as some people seem to think this ROM is, Cyanogen are not gods and the Rom does not a Jesus phone make. It is decent, but definitely not for everyone. And I want a fully functional 2.2 Rom made specifically for the Evo with all the HTC Sense goodness - at least for a little bit.
Can always do what I did last time...RUU back to 1.47 to root and then use the root method that will inevitably be found for 2.2. That way I can use 2.2 tonight (hopefully) and then root later after the devs here have figured it out.
CM6 is not the bend over backwards must have Rom that everyone made it out to be. There were plenty of things it was missing. Especially for people that need the phone for work with a decent exchange supporting app and calendar. The AOSP one does not fit the bill very well, and there is NO REASON I should have to buy all the support from the market with Touchdown Exchange for 2.0+, especially when it comes built in. Oh, and why is sense so bad when we have so many posts about where to find widgets like the clock, messaging, calendar, agenda, etc. Just use the built in one and be good to go!

Like you said, there are a lot of things currently missing from his ROM. To be perfectly honest I'm pretty fond of the stock ROM with SENSE UI. It works pretty well in my opinion. Like I said before I look forward to trying out the official 2.2 release.
1) I rooted my EVO 4G using the following method: "How to Root the HTC EVO 4G with Froyo 2.2 [Video Walkthrough]"
2) I flashed many ROMs, but finally settled on CM7 (7.0.3.1 currently).
3) got excited that the official GB ota was available, so UNROOTED (back to S-ON)using "[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS"
4)Finally, i installed the OTA today.
MY PROBLEM:
I cant get back to Root & CM!!! there is not much help for this, ive been googling but cant find a method that will root my evo from S-ON/gingerbread (2.3.3)...or even back to Froyo...so that i can root and get back on CM.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS????
i just wanted to play around and see what the officail GB was like (knowing that i would LOSE root, not knowing that i wouldnt be able to GET BACK to root), and now im stuck in STOCK im desperate for all me settings, apps, and WAY OF LIFE with CM.

You cant root. You ****ed up. The new bootloader is locked so root has to be updated to work with it. Everyone said DONT UPDATE.
Sent from my......ummm...let me get back at'chya!
There are a couple of threads on the topic. Basically, with S-On, you are out of luck, and need to wait for a new rooting method. For future reference, no need to unroot to get the OTA upgrade. Either wait the day (3 hours in this case) for a rooted version, or just flash the OTA version. So long as you keep S-Off, you are OK for flashing ROMs and stuff.
Probably gonna be awhile because HTC waited until the gingerbread root methods were patched before releasing the update. Honestly, I'm impressed that they did that. It means they are paying attention to security holes and actually fixing them.
Your best option was to wait it out because rooted versions of the ota were being created. I find that better because you can just flash it to check it out and restore back when your done.

Why do you geniuses keep taking ota's when you are already rooted?????? Seriously every update it is the same thing. Just flash the rooted version of the update. All you had to do was wait a couple of hours for it to be uploaded to xda. Maybe its for he best if the people who made this mistake yet again never be able to root.

So are you thinking that the refurbished phone will have a newer firmware? I don't know about that but it doesn't seem to make sense....is that some thing like asurion would do? And if you do get a new snazzy updated phone are you promising to donate your time to the cause??? Lol

Coming from an Evo 4G that I had rooted right after I got it... ran a ton of different ROMs and that phone seemed like it needed to be rooted to really make it run right... I'm finding that I really don't see any benefit to rooting this phone (other than free tether)...
So, am I missing something? What are these improvements in these custom ROMs that are making it worth it to root... this thing is so freakin awesome already I just can't think of anything else I need...
There are tons of perks in the custom ROMs: themes, TSM-mod, cm7, MIUI, faster lighter ROMs, debloated, Rouge recovery to name a few. If you flashed roms on the EVO im sure its just a matter of time until you dive into the ET4g dev section.

Calkulin's rom is great for a boost of performance on a stock rom as well...
Honestly, if you're happy with the phone as is, then maybe you should just leave it as it is until something comes along that makes you change your mind. Having a stock/unrooted phone is not a sin

What's "TSM-mod" and "Rogue recovery".. Or more precisely, what are the advantages of them?
I've looked around at the Dev section but the phone's been out long enough that it's hard to find threads that actually explain what all this is.. it's just assumed that I already know...

Tsm is like Cyanogen settings from the cm7 roms, but compatible with Samsung ROMs, Rogue recovery is clockwork recovery but redone, the options are grouped better, better theme, a lot less pain in the ass to use.
Oh yea check out qbking77's videos, he does a lot of how to's and reviews of ET4g ROMs, great stuff.

I completely agree. That's what I do with my phones. It also gives you time to get really comfortable with the new device as I know quite a few things change going from an htc phone to a samsung device. I generally will use the phone as is out of the box until I find something I can't bear, don't like or if there is actually a defect of some sort in the software. At which point, I check xda and see if there are fixes for said problems. If there are fixes and you're comfortable, root it and give it a shot. I'd suggest Calkulin's as it kinda seems like the go to rom for just about everyone on here, then maybe venture into the abyss. I'd suggest staying away from modems and other mods until you understand them and are comfortable.
I agree as well, nothing wrong rocking a completely stock phone. There are times I run a stock (debloated) rom just for a change.
I'm running a rooted with no fancy rom phone here. The only reason I haven't flashed a rom yet is because my first phone had GPS problems and this one doesn't. And plus, my evo with 3.0 rom has its own issues too. So I just don't want to jinx it. My wife's phone has the GPS problem. Thinking about bringing it in to the store for a replacement.

Thanks man, for the info and the referral. I'm comfortable enough with rooting and tech that it's just a matter of learning the different names for things, as it all goes by something different over here.
And thanks to everyone else for their input... I think I'm just gonna run it stock until I find something I can't live with.. Because right now, I love this thing.
Ok, scratch that.. I rooted yesterday.. just couldn't help myself, I need to be able to tweak the notifications toggles...

To be perfectly honest with you the way to go is stock rooted. None of the TW roms are really offering anything so much more exciting than stock TW. But definitely root it. On the practical side you can use the Wireless Tether app (if needed) block ads (a big thing for me) and access all files through Root Explorer. IMO those are reasons enough to root. In a nutshell, if you root your stock ROM you aren't really altering it and it is super easy to revert to non-rooted so there really is no downside as far as i can tell.
I debated the same thing... to root or not to root? I rooted and i am glad i did!
I held off for a while too but miui and the xplode roms are awesome. Just something different.

Well I rooted and flashed Calk's ROM... within 5 minutes it was having freezes and what not so I said screw it and restored my nandroid of stock... I'll be stayin here for a while.
Edit: not saying anything bad about Calk's work... It prolly would've been resolved with a wipe and clean install and some tweaking but I'm just wanting fast stability right now and stock TW is super fast and my battery life is awesome
Hi all
Just got an Inc 2. why else would I be posting here ,,,, anyhow I gotta have root mainly just to remove bloat, really undecided on which way though, HTC unlock or a full S off through the downgrade revolutionary method, I'm not realy a flashaholic, I would like to be able to use set CPU or the likes, for battery savings and maybe a little overclocking, phone seems pretty responsive if you ask me just coming from an Eris but I haven't loaded any apps on it yet either, heck I haven't even activated it yet (guess it's a little hard to let Ginger go ) I'd post a screen shot of her but she's a little shy.
So what's everyone thoughts on this if you had just recieved a brand new Incredible 2, with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, 2.6.35.9 kernel; and now the news of Official ICS update soon to be released which way would you go to root HTC or S off?
Can you overclock/undervolt stock kernel?
Is it possible to flash a different kernel?
Any and all input on this will be greatly appriciated, Thanks In Advance

You're gonna wanna downgrade and s-off. It's easier to flash ROMs, also you can flash radios that way. It's a slightly longer process to do so, but its worth not spending extra time when flashing ROMs. Mainly because you have to flash the kernel in fastboot if you use HTC unlock.

Thanks for your quick response, thats just it I'm not realy a flashaholic and if I see a rom that I would like to flash, a little extra work wouldn't bother me stability speed and no issues have presedence for me, not worried about look at what I got, just overall balanced goodness

It doesn't. It downgrades the hboot version. Now, if you s-off, you can flash any radio you wish. The recommended one is either the latest .1111 or .0722.

Yes I have the latest.1111 with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, kernel 2.6.35.9, it downgrades more than just the hboot doesn't it? I thought it downgraded the whole OS.
It will put you back to 2.2 or 2.3 I think but it does not affect radio. You van then flaws one of the rooms based off the latest stock update ( what you have) if that's what you want. Also, you can't oc stock kernel, use dresdills 21. Also if u use the HTC method you are guaranteed void warranty cause they know what you done. If you use other method you can revert to completely stock if you need too and they will never know if you need to because of hardware issues. Charging ports have been known to go bad so I would keep that in mind...

Yes I've heard about that kernel, I'm pretty sure that once you root they know it cause all there tracking, or most of there tracking software goes offline for them, and they know that the only reason, for the most part, that the phone dissapeared is root. I thought htc unlock still gave you a warranty although more limitted. And yes I learned from the Eris when the phone is on the charger be extra extra carefull with it, even if it meens don't touch it.
Root doesn't take out anything, and I'm not sure what tracking your referring to anyways. The only way anything would be took out is if you do it, or the rom you install does. If they know you done it, and you think it may be more limited, that's just a way of saying now we have a reason to deny you anytime we feel like it. But if your set on that, do it, not gonna argue its your phone could care less, you wanted opinions you got it, either way good luck...

I never said that root in and of itself took out anything, it's the stuff we take out once we root. Your not sure what tracking I'm referring to, Look up Carrier IQ .
I charged this phone turned it on bypassed activation shut off the networks just to play around with it and it was still reporting network traffic, How, Why?
This phone has the ability to get past the switch thats thrown when you shut off your data connections. I did just activate the phone, I had forgot to turn data back on before doing so, but it didn't matter; after phone booted up and was settling in I saw the 3g icon pop up in the status bar, thats what reminded me, [I thought I shut that off] and sure enough it was still off, yet it still sent data, but where to? I'm not set on anything yet, yes I'm trying to get many opinions and I thank you for your input this phones been out for a while now and many things have changed since it was first released, like ICS, and htc unlock of the hboot. Much of the activity about rooting this phone is a year or more old and with the deals and such that are being thrown around now to move the remaning stock off shelves there will be ( I'm sure ) many newcomers to the phone and this forum so an updated collection of thoughts on this I figured would be welcome especially if there was some input from the veterans of this phone. And again thank you

as a matter of fact yes i have, our stock rom 5.xx is clean
the ports may or may not have it (depending if it was cleaned out or not by individual dev) but since its not running on the phone/carrier it was meant to, it wouldnt properly function

Hello and thanks for reading yet another "noobaholic anonymous" post. I spent most of last night searching, and could not find what I was looking for... and the things that seemed relevant, were 2 years old. That's a century in this hobby. Sooooo....
Here's my dilemma. A year and several months ago, I rooted and ROM'd my Droid X with CM7. It was a cakewalk! But, I REALLY lusted for a HTC Inc2. So I switched to the Inc2 a year ago. Like you, I've been waiting for the ICS update, which isnt coming. So I've decided to go ahead and hot rod this sucker. I am on Page Plus, so warranty means nothing to me.
I've seen plenty of posts to downgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.3, I can handle that I think. And from what I've read of the various ROM's, it looks like Skyraider Zeus is the one for me. I want to keep the Sense stuff (clock, weather, calendar, notifications, phone launcher etc) but everything else is fair game.
So once I do the 2.3.3 thing and root my Inc2, where do I get the latest ROM and how do I get it on my phone? Also, I would like to try the GingerBangSense ROM and maybe CM7.2 as they get good reviews - is there some way to switch between them? Or do I have to go all the way to root and start over from scratch?
Forgive my asking the "same old stupid questions", I realize they've been asked before a million times. But as I said, the Inc2 is getting quite long in the tooth and there are a ZILLION threads on it. What scared me enough to stick my neck out and ask all these questions in this thread - is I cant find a concise thread in the latter part of 2012 or 2013. I didnt want to screw something up or miss out on something that's happened since early 2011 or whenever the majority of the threads were birthed.
So thank you again, for taking time to help someone trying to regain his sanity.

Download the ROM you want to flash and place it on your SD card
Wipe data/cache/dalvic. I haven't used clockwork in a while so I don't remember what its called. 4ext let's you wipe everything but the SD card.
After the wipe, install ROM VIA CLOCKWORK. Then reboot.
Most ROM threads include instructions on flashing said ROMS.
Good luck.

Here is a good thread for multiple ways on rooting. Because the Inc2 got software updates rooting became problematic for some for a while. Figure out what version you are first before rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796
Once done, download a ROM onto your sd card, reboot into recovery and do the following:
- Make a Nandroid (backup)
- Wipe data
- Wipe dalvik/cache
(I format system next)
- install file from sd card
- reboot and profit!
Thank you all, I am now the proud owner of a fully rooted and rom'd Dinc2. If I could, I would hand out candy or liquor, depending on your age
At the moment, I'm running Skyraider Zeus 1.3. Of course the ROM'ing bug has bitten, so IC Tazz is downloading at the moment and I'm thinking GingerBliss may be next. I'm torn though, I like the Sense GUI but would of course like the latest updated stuff... most of the ICS based or any of the CM stuff seems to have stripped out the Sense and it all looks like my old (and ugly..) Droid X. Any recommendations or are the 3 ROM's I've mentioned so far about it?
I have one more question for you elder statesmen - I have Clockwork Recovery on the phone right now. I see a couple others listed as TWRP or EXT4, are they any better or necessary for any other ROMs? Or will Clockwork do everything I need done and best to stick with it?

Viperinc is the sexiest ROM, but has lag issues. Pacman is pretty stable.
4ext is way better than cwm and you can get the recovery control app which makes managing backups, wipes a breeze.

I tried SRZ, it wasn't bad but I wanted to try ICS, so I loaded IC Tazz. I like 90% of it but GEEZ is that Sense 4.0 clock terrible looking! I realize you can load Fancy Widgets and get the Sense 2.x clock / weather look, but it does not trigger the Sense weather like the HTC clock does. SOooooo..... if there is some way of getting my good ol' HTC clock/weather (2.x) in IC Tazz, I'd be happy.
Oh - the OTHER iritation - on the lock screen, the clock is such a terrible skinny font! I dont know about you guys, but I use my phone as a time piece all through the day. So I wil whip it out and glance at the clock. I'm getting older (too old..) and really miss the 2.x clock skin/font/etc.
Other than that, WOW, what a nice update.
Now about the 4ext vs CWM - I read as many posts as I felt were relevant, and TWRP sounded like the best choice. So I downloaded Goomanager from the Play store, and used it to install TWRP (according to the instructions on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1943592 ) It did it's thing, but there's no icon for TWRP on the phone now. Part of the perk was this was touch driven and no more volume/power button launching... so now what? I'm downloading Viper right now, so I'd like to slap it on the Dinc2 and check it out before I make my final choice and reactivate this phone. (I've got it offline till I get it "right")

Part of the perk was this was touch driven and no more volume/power button launching... so now what? I'm downloading Viper right now, so I'd like to slap it on the Dinc2 and check it out before I make my final choice and reactivate this phone. (I've got it offline till I get it "right")

You will still have to get into TWRP with the power menu but once you are in there you can navigate without using the volume and power buttons to back up and install things.

In the last 24 hours I went from bonestock 2.3.4, to 2.3.3 to S-OFF to full root, to SRZ to IC Tazz, with CWM. Then TWRP went on and ViperINC went on... THEN I really lost my mind and put the 320 radio on it. Noob to Addict in 24 hours.
See what you guys created? You gotta be careful giving out all this information!
While I have your attention, and being I dont have enough posts to comment in the 'dev' area, if I should go back to SRZ or ICT, am I going to have to flash the radio? I looked ALL over and can not find a single working radio link. For what it's worth - I saw no gain from the 622 (GB) radio to the 320 (ICS) db wise.

You shouldn't need to change radios.

On the ViperINC thread (the ROM), they had the radio listed right below it. Being the radio in my phone was several generations old (622) and my reception SUCKS, and (and and and..) I never flashed a radio before and I was feeling confident with my new found toys.... I went ahead and flashed it.
I reactivated the phone today, and can say the reception is not any better in the areas I usually use it. I guess it's just the flaw of the Dinc2.

I meant you shouldn't have to change it back. Sorry for the confusion.
Thanks for the clear up. What about the 320 radio being ICS based? SRZ is GB based, for example... last thing I want to do is brick my phone. Today I found a possible crippling flaw in the Venom ROM - the voice doesnt work on Google Maps. I use that app a lot, so I may have to revert to GB for now.

The radio works fine on all versions of android.
Sent from my Nitsy CM7.
Is the "radio" only for the phone (calls) or does it also do the GPS? Since I loaded ViperINC, my GPS does not work.

try the patch, the thread for it is in the dev section, fishing the radio should not have affected it, and radios have nothing to do with the version of android, its seperate, a firmware...
