[Q] Ram optimizer DZ - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hye guys,
Got a question is there any way possible to free up some system allocated ram for using intens apps (or for running ubuntu). I know it was possible on certain devices but havent really seen anything for a sense rom.
I'm currently running the mytouch rom. It's very fast for a sense rom. Unbelieveble fast even. Its just you can notice that sense requires so much more ram than say CM7 without sense.
I want to keep all the sense features, but just free up some ram.
Any ideas are welcome.
Cheers

Use a ram cleaner script. It deletes lots of system data to free up more ram on ur phone. Heres the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16244178&postcount=2184

Out of all of the current 3.0 based roms, which one has the most availible ram and runs the fastest? Haven't tried one in months, but i remember having very little free ram when i did. Maybe it is was it is. Thanks in advance.

Mik3d Beta 1 has about 140 mb of ram. After partitioning storage, I have about 350mb of storage available. It is exceedingly fast and exceptionally strong on battery.
Also, I'm using Lithid's more freedom kernel.

I haven't checked out the ROM personally but that one seems to have the most memory

+1 on this.
Underclocked to around 700 MHz with no lag. Not even using V6 Supercharger or any tweaks either.
Partitioned SD card helps with anything, I have a 16 gig card with a 3 gig ext3 partition.

I am using R2R lightning rom, I am definitely low on ram, always floating around 15 to 20%
I love the rom, best I've had with sense 3.0, any suggestions on improving ram?

You can't get more RAM than 330MB or so, the rest is for the radio and possibly other system stuff. Why is it a problem though ? Typically (running 2.3 at least) there should be lots of free RAM.

I saw 512+ before as total ram

That's very interesting because I saw 512MB too but now I have 368MB. Don't remeber when was it probably before rooting and flashing. Is this correct that task manager reports only 368MB as total memory?
Now I have Virtuous Affinity 2.05 and HBOOT from virtuous page. Is this could be the reason?
I always get around 250mb ram rarely 310mb :O
If its the value in About Phone - Hardware Info, i think that can be set to show anything you want in the build.prop file. The most accurate method to check RAM value and free RAM is using "free" in Terminal Emulator.
As discussed, the 512MB is shared between the phone, radio and graphics

New app in Market!

Guys.... I love multitasking and love memory available so ...
I was looking into ram manager app and suddenly came over this app named SWAPit.. It's supposed to expand ram by making a swap file. Any opinions? Or other suggestions?

Did you dowload it??
Maybe you could give opinions so we all can learn...and not download if it's ****e
Since setcpu and juice defender fall into placebo apps category, me thinks this falls into the same category as solar charger.

I don't think this will improve performance. Usual Linux based OS use a swap partition. You can use one in Android too, but no devs recommends it. So i think devs don't recommend to use swap, because it doesn't improve performance.
Yes, swap partition will "extend" the RAM but the truth is Android has its own mechanim to manage apps, so if you're low on RAM, instead of killing an old app you'll slow your system as it will use the swap partition (or file) which is much slower than RAM.
So, let Android do its job !
I will give it a try and report back.

Free memory problems on One X

I don't think this is a problem but I would like to know if there is a way I can keep the used RAM on my One X below the 700 mark without having to use the task manager to close apps. Even when I have closed all apps and nothing is open I still have 600mb used. I'm running latest version of viperX and it runs perfectly.
If there is a way I can clear some memory I would appreciate the help thanks

Welcome to Linux. Free RAM is wasted RAM.

[Q] Free up Ram

I'm running AOKP build 5 and I was wondering what's the best way to clear up some ram on my phone, make it run faster. I close apps when I'm not using it and I'm on stock kernel...maybe different kernel....? Any advice would be nice. Thanks in advance.

The topics don't correlate. When Android needs more RAM, it'll close applications automatically - that being said, your speed issue isn't RAM related.
fast reboot is a nice app to use. its kinda like a reboot but without rebooting. it frees up ram. android might free up ram on its own when needed, but it does not do a good enough job, no matter what other people say. fmr memory cleaner is also a nice app to use.

Pretty much said it all. That said unused ram isn't going to make your phone faster. If anything having more apps cached in the ram will. Unused ram is wasted ram Imo.
Thanks for the clarification guys
