[Q] Bootloop...hBoot yes, recovery no. - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was using my Inc as a GPS on the way to work today when it rebooted. Now it won't go past white "htc incredible" screen, it will sit there then vibrates once and reboots. I can get into hboot, but if I select recovery I get the same white HTC screen and more boot loops. Battery pull didn't fix anything.
What are my options?

Ok did a bit of searching and looks like I may be down to 2 options:
1. flash recovery hboot
2. flash stock PB31IMG from dougpiston's site from hboot. (however, would having s-off be an issue? how about leaked radio?)
For now will hold off and see if I can get any other ideas before I start flashing things.

RUU_Incredible_C_Froyo_VERIZON_WWE_3.26.605.1_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_2k4k_NV_1.70_PRL58006_release_152016_signed.exe
Correct?

Looks like its time to shop for a new phone, as this one seems to be a gonner. Flashed sock RUU, still same bootloop.

If you got amoled Dinc I have the files
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App

So first you need access to a SD card. Make sure is formatted to fat32
Download and copy this file to the root of your SD card and rename it to PB31IMG
http://db.tt/6u9pc2n
Reboot into hboot and flash it.
After that's done DO NOT REBOOT DONT TOUCH ANYTHING JUST PULL THE BATTERY WHEN IS DONE FLASHING
Now get access to the SD card again delete the first file (the one you just flashed)
Now Download and copy this file to the root of your SD card and rename it to PB31IMG
http://db.tt/RQkuXlu
Reboot into hboot flash it (it will take like 5 to 6 minutes) when done reboot. You are done my friend

hey guys I am having a similar problem. I was using cm7 nightly 164 i believe, had just flashed a spash screen and custom boot animation, my sig will say what radio i was using, but my phone was just charging when it happened. I cannot access cmw either. I flashed my oldest PB31IMG that had 1.00.3 radio, hboot .79 i have s-off but even after flashing that it didn't fix. Kratz I hope your stuff works will be reporting in
*Edit* just flashed them both in correct order. still stuck in boot loop

Same result, no dice.
Oh well, already have a dinc on the way from fleabay. Thanks for all the help guys.

That's really odd, I've never heard of this happening before, then again I haven't really been looking at overheating issues. Wouldn't really surprise me considering ir died mid GPS guidance, though it didn't really feel any warmer than usual...but sometimes electronics just crap out.
I just wish it had waited until HTC Vigor or at the least, Bionic hit the shelves before it crapped out.

This happened to me once, all I had to do was reflash CWM.

Updated radio issue - phone not booting

I had success with the unrevoked root, so I decided to give the 2.2 upgrade a shot. I successfully reverted to a fresh stock unrooted 2.1, using the PB31IMG.zip file. This also took away my Clockwork Mod. Next I moved to the step of loading the dinc_ota.zip. After the 3 cycles it went to the HTC incredible boot screen and didnt move. I waited 15 minutes and nothing changed. I decided to pull the battery but no luck, still hangs on the white screen when i turn the phone on. I can still get into HBoot, which shows my radio as the updated 2.05 and my hboot is .79.
I've tried the RUU but I cannot boot the phone past the white htc screen so it wont work. I've also tried to load the PB31IMG.zip file from the sdcard agian, which doesnt. I get an error saying its too old.
Is there a way to restore my phone from Hboot?
Do you have any suggestions of threads I could read for the answer?
Thanks

i would not try the radio update again, that's pretty much a sure fire way to brick. I would wait for the opinions of others first.
PB31IMG.zip doesn't roll the radio back does it? It reverts to stock recovery and ROM, but does it roll the radio back too?
I thought you had to follows this to roll the radio back, http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html

As for the radio update, I agree that it would be a bad idea to try to reaplly it, especially since my HBoot shows it as the updated radio.
I also saw the thread you pointed out to me but that requires clockwork mod to be installed and that was removed when i reverted to stock.
Any helpful ideas are greatly appreciated.

Also tried adb devices in hboot, at the htc incredible white screen, and in the fastboot menu, all with no luck. When I try to boot to recovery it hangs at the same white screen. Might just have to bring it to Verizon tomorrow, I'm beginning to think I may be holding a brick.
To revert your radio back to the original 1.x, you need to have access to adb and pushing to your data directory
Long story short, you dun goofed by pulling the battery

I wouldn't think it's bricked if you can still get into the bootloader. Bricked generally comes about when you can't even power the device on. While I have nothing to add in the way of help, I'd say don't give up on the phone yet. I'm betting one of the *real* devs may be able to help you.

Its not bricked. I had the same issue. You need to follow this guide. Basically you have to redo it to get it to work, and this is the only way that I could do it.
http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html
(This was the most important part of the guide for me. Solve that: error saying its too old. All glory to Adrynalyne)
Having troubles with the RUU giving connection errors? Do this.
Go to start, and in the search/run box, type
%temp%
Delete all that you can. Make sure the RUU is not running in the background.
Now run the RUU again. Once it starts to the first screen, it has extracted the files to the temp directory. You can then copy them to a safe place. It will be a long winded numbered folder, with a similar subfolder.
Once you have copied it to a safe place, you can then copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and adbwinapi.dll from the latest SDK into it, overwriting the older copies. Then start the RUU by executing ARUWizard.exe. This fixed the problem for me.
You can also rename the rom.zip contained within the extracted files to PB31IMG.zip and put it on your sd card. Booting to HBOOT will scan it and offer to install.

His tutorial says you need clockwork, so he might not be ok. You need the ability to push files to your data directory which is why he needs clockwork, unless he can do it the old way when we first got root by the time attack method. I do not know how much functionality adb would have if he was able to access ADB with stock recovery.
This is all his fault for his failure to read. From what I read in the OP, he did this
1. He downgraded with the RUU image.
2. He tried to apply the OTA
He failed to do this or at least didn't acknowledge that he did this, but he didn't install the original OTA which you will get after you RUU back to stock. If you boot your phone back up it should download the OTA from VZW and then you apply the leaked OTA. So sounds like this is the reason for his brick/semi-brick. Failure to read or understand what youre doing leads to FAIL>

major problem. Need some help. Loopbooting

So I'm at work and go to look at my phone and notice its rebooting which it never does. I watch it and notice its loopbooting at the white Evo screen. Ive never as much as had a random reboot before. I try to boot into recovery and can get to hboot but as soon as I try to select recovery it loop boots at the same point. I tried pulling the battery and that didn't help either. I'm running cm6.1 rc1 with stock kernel and no over or under clocking. I haven't made any changes in a while. Not even any new apps.
Any ideas?
I just went through and read every thread with loop in the title and it seems like with everyone else they had this issue while rooting or flashing or making some sort of change. Nor just on an idle phone
You may need to RUU your phone and start over if you arent able to get into any type of recovery mode...

The only RUU I was able to flash with the RUU app was the 3.26 one I posted. I downloaded like 10 others and RUU app doesn't see them for some reason.
Also, how can I send a file to the phone with fastboot? I've searched and searched and I'm not sure of the exact syntax to use.
I had S-OFF and was fully rooted untill I ran RUU app.
Any other suggestions? I'm really trying to avoid getting a new phone.

Semi-bricked Incredible?

So I flashed Skyraider tonight, wiped data, installed the ROM, and booted up the phone. I was halfway through setting up my Google account when the phone froze and rebooted. Except, it didn't boot back up. It did the "vibrate five times and flash the LED" thing. Didn't think it was a big deal, so I pulled the battery, tried to boot it back up. But it does the same thing.
I can get into the hboot menu, and if the phone is plugged into the computer, it'll boot up into Skyraider, but it can't read the SD card or the internal storage. So, essentially, a pretty screwy phone. I also cannot boot back into recovery. It just does the vibrating thing when I try. My computer doesn't detect the SD card or storage, either. (The SD card is fine, though. I put it in another phone and everything is still there.)
I have no idea what happened with it. I don't know if this is some random hardware damage, or if I should find an RUU and try to fix it or what.
I've had the worst luck with phones these past few weeks.
Any suggestions?
What version of CM Recovery do you have?
I would go back to stock and redo everything again. Download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD card, boot into the bootloader and let the update run its course. This will bring you back to a completely stock 2.2. From there you can re-root and do as you please.
I was on CW 2.5.1.2. But everytime I try to get into the recovery, the phone just vibrates five times and the LED flashes green. I'm also not sure that hboot is seeing my SD card. I'm going to try it, though.

I'm not sure if it works, but can you boot into hboot and run the RUU from there and update. I don't think you need to have a working SD Card in order to do that, but I could be wrong. At least then it will be stock and no worries if you take it to verizon.

If you have the unrevoked USB drivers installed I believe that is what causes it. You have to have the "stock" drivers for the phone installed on the PC for it to work, that was a problem I was having when trying to run the RUU.

The sales rep looked at it for two minutes, and they're overnighting another Incredible to me.
So on one hand, I'm pretty happy about how easy it was.
On the other hand, I'd rather keep the AMOLED screen.
Does anybody know if I'm going to get a refurb, or will I get a new SLCD model?

BIG Problem...NEED HELP

I have been using incredibly re-engineered z and downgraded to clockwork 3.0.0.7 as the instructions say to do to load nils business sense z . I downloaded the rom and used Rom Manager to install the new rom, as I always do, except for restoring sometimes in recovery. For some reason when the phone booted back there was a horizontal black line across the screen below the "HTC Incredible boot screen...then there are two vertical white lines at each end of the screen and the center is black.. The home, menu, back and search button still have haptic feedback, so i assumed the phone didnt quite make it into recovery...pulled the battery...tried regular reboot...same thing happens at the boot screen. Got phone into bootloader and when i hit fastboot, it shoots out a bunch of errors it seems real quickly. All is can read is SD checking...no image or wrong image...PB310IAG.zip (i think)...lack of heap. I tried to get the phone into recovery from the bootloader screen and the same thing keeps happening. I'm stuck and have no clue what kind of fix there is for this...am i bricked? I dont get this...have flashed roms 20 times or so and nothing like this has ever happened...please help!

Ok follow these steps exactly for step was formatting the SD so hboot can read the zip..... now download the zip I'm giving you and place it on the root of your SD card once you have it there rename the zip PB31IMG.zip exactly, then boot into hboot wait for for it to search for it if you did my steps correctly it will once it finds it it will ask you if you want to update press the button up to update let it do its thing till it says it done and asks you to reboot... don't panic and pull the battery because the process can take awhile just be patient... make sure you have a good charge

most definitely...pretty beat from a long week. Are you gonna be around tomorrow? Also, do you know about mac's? I also have a windows machine so i guess it doesnt matter, but know the mac a little better myself.
I use windows myself but all you need it for is to download the file and then copy it to your SD the rest is done on the phone its actually pretty easy ill just have to explain it in more detail for you.... so if you want to wait go ahead and download the file its about 180mb so you will have it and we will get you fixed

Flashing ROM

I have downloaded the ROM Classic v0.1.0 Supermagic, placed it on my SD card. I have also unlocked my bootloader and have CWM recovery. I have returned to the bootloader screen, went to recovery mode, and went to select which zip I wanted to flash. I found the classic v0.1.0 file and slected it, which I thought would begin the flash/download. It simply opened and gave me 3 more options for files. data/, system/, and META-INF/
I should probably mention that after getting the classic v0.1.0, i extracted it and put that file on my sd card.
I have an EVO 4G, unlocked but still with the S-ON, although I can still flash files. I really appreciate any help.
Don't extract a rom..and use smelkus recovery its better than that one

but other than that mistake, it looks like I'm on track? and speed really isn't an issue right now. As new as I am, I simply want it to work.

Wow. That helps. I followed the rules and read everything I could before attempting anything and searched and read some more. Somehow I missed that thread. Would have saved me a boatload of time and frustration.

Try fully Rooting your evo I had the same problems when I unlocked the boot loader on the og evo for the second time.don't worry you can RUU it and get back to fully stock if you have any problems.
