I had success with the unrevoked root, so I decided to give the 2.2 upgrade a shot. I successfully reverted to a fresh stock unrooted 2.1, using the PB31IMG.zip file. This also took away my Clockwork Mod. Next I moved to the step of loading the dinc_ota.zip. After the 3 cycles it went to the HTC incredible boot screen and didnt move. I waited 15 minutes and nothing changed. I decided to pull the battery but no luck, still hangs on the white screen when i turn the phone on. I can still get into HBoot, which shows my radio as the updated 2.05 and my hboot is .79.
I've tried the RUU but I cannot boot the phone past the white htc screen so it wont work. I've also tried to load the PB31IMG.zip file from the sdcard agian, which doesnt. I get an error saying its too old.
Is there a way to restore my phone from Hboot?
Do you have any suggestions of threads I could read for the answer?
Thanks

i would not try the radio update again, that's pretty much a sure fire way to brick. I would wait for the opinions of others first.
PB31IMG.zip doesn't roll the radio back does it? It reverts to stock recovery and ROM, but does it roll the radio back too?
I thought you had to follows this to roll the radio back, http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html

Do you want to reboot device?
vol up yes
vol down no
I tried the reboot and it still hangs at white screen.

As for the radio update, I agree that it would be a bad idea to try to reaplly it, especially since my HBoot shows it as the updated radio.
I also saw the thread you pointed out to me but that requires clockwork mod to be installed and that was removed when i reverted to stock.
Any helpful ideas are greatly appreciated.

I did try to clear the storage, but it still hangs.
Also tried adb devices in hboot, at the htc incredible white screen, and in the fastboot menu, all with no luck. When I try to boot to recovery it hangs at the same white screen. Might just have to bring it to Verizon tomorrow, I'm beginning to think I may be holding a brick.
To revert your radio back to the original 1.x, you need to have access to adb and pushing to your data directory
Long story short, you dun goofed by pulling the battery
HTC Incredible, rooted w/ modified Sense 2.1
I think its a brick

Once the radio update completed, the white htc inc screen came up and hung there for 15 minutes, I didnt think I had much of a choice.
In that situation what should I have done?

I appreciate all the help, this is why I came to xda. As for my Incredible, I guess its going back to Verizon tomorrow to see what they can do for me. I'm sure I'll be waiting a good week or two until I have my Incredible back, DOH!
I wouldn't think it's bricked if you can still get into the bootloader. Bricked generally comes about when you can't even power the device on. While I have nothing to add in the way of help, I'd say don't give up on the phone yet. I'm betting one of the *real* devs may be able to help you.

Its not bricked. I had the same issue. You need to follow this guide. Basically you have to redo it to get it to work, and this is the only way that I could do it.
http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html
(This was the most important part of the guide for me. Solve that: error saying its too old. All glory to Adrynalyne)
Having troubles with the RUU giving connection errors? Do this.
Go to start, and in the search/run box, type
%temp%
Delete all that you can. Make sure the RUU is not running in the background.
Now run the RUU again. Once it starts to the first screen, it has extracted the files to the temp directory. You can then copy them to a safe place. It will be a long winded numbered folder, with a similar subfolder.
Once you have copied it to a safe place, you can then copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and adbwinapi.dll from the latest SDK into it, overwriting the older copies. Then start the RUU by executing ARUWizard.exe. This fixed the problem for me.
You can also rename the rom.zip contained within the extracted files to PB31IMG.zip and put it on your sd card. Booting to HBOOT will scan it and offer to install.

His tutorial says you need clockwork, so he might not be ok. You need the ability to push files to your data directory which is why he needs clockwork, unless he can do it the old way when we first got root by the time attack method. I do not know how much functionality adb would have if he was able to access ADB with stock recovery.
This is all his fault for his failure to read. From what I read in the OP, he did this
1. He downgraded with the RUU image.
2. He tried to apply the OTA
He failed to do this or at least didn't acknowledge that he did this, but he didn't install the original OTA which you will get after you RUU back to stock. If you boot your phone back up it should download the OTA from VZW and then you apply the leaked OTA. So sounds like this is the reason for his brick/semi-brick. Failure to read or understand what youre doing leads to FAIL>

So I'm at work and go to look at my phone and notice its rebooting which it never does. I watch it and notice its loopbooting at the white Evo screen. Ive never as much as had a random reboot before. I try to boot into recovery and can get to hboot but as soon as I try to select recovery it loop boots at the same point. I tried pulling the battery and that didn't help either. I'm running cm6.1 rc1 with stock kernel and no over or under clocking. I haven't made any changes in a while. Not even any new apps.
Any ideas?
I just went through and read every thread with loop in the title and it seems like with everyone else they had this issue while rooting or flashing or making some sort of change. Nor just on an idle phone

The only RUU I was able to flash with the RUU app was the 3.26 one I posted. I downloaded like 10 others and RUU app doesn't see them for some reason.
Also, how can I send a file to the phone with fastboot? I've searched and searched and I'm not sure of the exact syntax to use.
I had S-OFF and was fully rooted untill I ran RUU app.
Any other suggestions? I'm really trying to avoid getting a new phone.

Downloading the following RUU now and going to try again.

I'm not exactly sure that you can. It seems (to me) that once you change the permissions of the files in the phone they are stuck like that. "I" believe that once it is changed in firmware you can't go back even if you do a hard reset.
I did a hard reset on the phone after rooting it because I took the wrong app off and when I went to redo root the files already had permission granted to them.
i'd love to know the answer to this as well.

I just went through this on my return.
Grab the ESPRIMG.zip from the S-OFF thread. The link is under where it says "Still still having problems?" I'd post the direct link myself but it won't let me.

Put the file in the root of your SD card and reboot into stock recovery and it should automatically start flashing. Once its done and you reboot it will be back to complete stock/pre-OTA update and will no longer be rooted.
You will also need the 1.35 update.zip if you want to update manually
You can download it here http://www.4shared.com/file/xqsDnrwl/1_35_531.html
Remember to change the file name to update.zip before flashing threw stock recovery

Having a hell of a time getting my evo 4g to change to s on. I have successfully unrooted it but the s off remains there. I need to take it back to sprint for repairs.
I have tried several with the recent unrevoked 3. But my results are after flashing "waiting 5 seconds because windows hates" message and the other says waiting to reboot" (both freezes forever). Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks you.
Newsflash. I've never heard one story of Spring checking a bootloader to make sure a phone is S-On.
Flash A stock ROM and you;ll be good, although there have been posts that say Sprint will work on Rooted phones now.

You have to have a custom recovery to do that (Amon-RA or Clockwork). You need to reinstall Amon-Ra Recovery by putting this in the root of your SDCard and rename it "PC36IMG.zip": http://files.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=PC36IMG.zip
Then flash this: http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
After that just run an RUU from here: http://goo-inside.me/supersonic/ruu
In case the RUU won't work from your computer, download one of the ZIP ones, put it in the root of your SDCard and rename it "PC36IMG.zip". That always works.
I am not sure what you mean by "Spring checking but I have flashed the stock rom PC36IMG.zip onto the root of the sd. My understanding that once your successful doing this you basically revert to the original rom. I have done that thanks to this site. But, I cannot for the life of me get the s on back on. Rooting my phone with three different custom roms were easier. Not all Spring stores like rooted phones. Id rather revert to original with the s on to be sure. product F thanks for the reply I will try that..perhaps I missed something. Thank You.

That plus the leaked document from the sprint employee forums that said that sprint supports rooted devices means we don't have to fret over s-on for service just make sure that your phone is running a sense rom when it is taken in otherwise they can't use the diagnostic commands from the dialer to fully support the device.

Thanks for staying with me. Appreciate it.
Here is how I wasable to get to recovery to get to the root directory for choosing zip from sd.
STEP 9: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.[/SIZE][/SIZE]
It was the connection and discnnection of th usb cable. Everything was in green. Is that normal.
So, my next step was to flash the forever s on zip. The results were unsupported radio version. Update failed. The current version I have is 2.15.00.05.02. on the new update on my evo. I tried it first by removing the pc36img.zip nd then tried it with it on...same results.
So I found this radio version (EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_NV_2.15_003), but I am not sure if this is what version is needed. Anyways, I apologize for this long everyone, but I am trying to provide as much info and hopefully I can minimize your time. Thanks alot.

The radio package you mention is the same radio you already have, so you'll want an older version. I'm not exactly sure of the version number, but I do know that is not the correct one.
Remember when you flash radios to not pull the battery. It'll flash, then upon rebooting it'll finish. You'll see a screen that you probably haven't seen before, it'll most likely be an arrow pointing down to a phone or an Android in a box... or something like that. Regardless of what you see after the flash, don't freak out and pull the battery - you'll end up bricking your phone. It's one of the few ways to guarantee a real brick, the phone will never turn on again. You may already know this, or it may be in whatever guide you're using, but it's good to know.
Anyway, I'll see if I can find the correct radio for you, and good luck!
Edit: I read somewhere that someone used this one to get s-on: http://www.mediafire.com/?v0ymbhaa0ltcvyy
However, you may need to do some trial and error. It should work, but here's a link to all of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
These are from Calkulin, so if they're PC36IMG files you'll be fine, but I'm pretty sure you flash them in recovery. Sorry, it's late & I'm lazy. Anyway, I think Calkulin still uses amend scripting, which will render them incompatible with ClockworkMod. You'll either need to switch to Amon Ra to flash them or find a different flashable zip. I think you'll only need to flash the radio, not all of them, but I could be wrong.

You don't need S-OFF to have sprint work on your phone for repair. My cousin just got an insurance replacement Evo 4g because he washed his phone with his clothes. He brought it over to me to be rooted and the phone he got was already S-OFF and that is an Insurance REFERB. also with the leaked forum of how Sprint will infact work on Rooted phones gives it away that you dont need S-OFF

No thats incorrect you dont just reset the device you must wipe well and flash stock I must tell you numerous people are bricking themselves fairly bad attempting to do the same personally I would avoid it just flash modaco instead other than that the method to return to stock is in the second post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1638452

android.process.acore
process.android.providers.calendar
These are wise words indeed. Installed Twrp and MiUI ics rom and played with it but gave up after day or so and was headed back to stock... battery was/is apparently too low AND I keep getting 2 force close errors for (right after boot) ...
-android.process.acore
-process.android.providers.calendar
(happens right after the UI starts loading ... if Im quick enough I can get one of the homescreen apps to load, but I notice the settings menu item or none of the software buttons for home, etc are there
... then after I click the force close button it just starts to boot again... not enough time to try to get twrp back on to handle boot so I can wipe and try to flash update.zip (the fires stock rom).
Oh well, its only 200.00 and I'll be getting another one I guess. glad it was with this and NOT one of my smartphones I tinker with from time to time. lesson learned about playing with rom flashing when battery is low I guess.

The only mention of ADB is "adb push C:\kfu\software\update-kindle-6.3.1_D01E_4107720.bin /sdcard/update.zip", which you can easily avoid if you don't want to touch ADB.
Just rename your downloaded file to update.zip (watch out for the file extension, Windows hides most of them on default settings), then just copy it into your KF like you do any other file. Do not place it in any subfolder.
Be sure to follow the steps carefully, or else you may end up with a soft brick (fixable).

I have the same problem, but my battery was 100% when flashing back. Is this good night for the kindle then?
It boots in to the 6.2.2 software, but these errors pop up and force close then eventually does a restart. Dammit!

No, that's not all you should do to get back to stock... follow ALL the STEPS. Wiping is VERY important. Ie, don't just rename the file to update.zip and flash it right away, or you'll most likely end up with a soft brick. I was only clarifying that one specific step.

oh ok, thanks
Just a side note after restoring to stock you need to then perform a factory restore as well which will wipe your sd card if all goes well it should smooth out from there

Anyone know how to check to see if windows adds .zip? Like how do I check the default settings for file extensions. Also do I need to unroot before I flash back to stock? or will flashing take care of that for me?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/show-or-hide-file-name-extensions That applies for Vista/7. XP is almost the same.
Flashing back to stock will undo anything you've ever done or had on the device, except for the contents of /sdcard (the stuff you've copied to it from the computer).

Currently my phone cannot boot up, get's stuck at the HTC white screen. I am trying to follow the directions here but I'm having some trouble. I can get into the recovery screen and by doing so it automatically starts loading the PG32IMG.zip file but does not do anything after that and I am unsure how to proceed. So far I have tried installing the .zip using the ClockworkMod Recovery but when I attempt to do so it says it can't open and just says (bad), installation aborted. Currently it is S-ON and I do not know if I can change it to S-OFF if I cannot boot it up. Right now I am waiting for the download to finish for this guide and I will hopefully be able to switch it but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas I would certainly like to hear from you.

What happened before it got stuck at the white screen? Were you trying to flash a rom?

yes. I managed to root it last night and was attempting to add this rom this morning. I don't remember what steps I took exactly (I knew I should have written it down!) and now it refuses to boot up. I am able to get into the recovery mode and access the SD card by mounting it to my PC but that's it.

So you are HTC dev unlocked but not s-off if I'm understanding correctly. The flashing steps are a little different. You need to look around for flashing instructions for dev unlocked phones. I believe the Viper rom thread has the instructions, and they work for any rom.

Yes, his install instructions from that OP are:
Be s-off (or dev unlock)
Install a custom recovery (twrp/4ext)
Download the ROM and place it on your external SD card.
Do a nandroid backup!
Start rom install process and make sure you select to wipe data in aroma
Select your desired setup in aroma, and finish
Reboot the device and enjoy!
If you are dev unlock, you need to pull the boot.img from the rom zip and fastboot it in hboot
I'm not dev unlock, so I've never actually done this, which is why I'm not being more specific. The boot.img is already in the zip you downloaded for the rom.
If you look in this thread, the phone is different, but the flash steps should be identical according to my understanding:

well I managed to install the ROM successfully but it still refuses to boot up, I've run out of ideas at this point, no idea why it refuses to boot up.

More details will be very helpful to any of us that might be able to help you.
What rom are you trying to install?
What do you mean by won't boot up. Are you getting past the HTC screen now?

my apologies, I had originally attempted to install this ROM. I thought I had followed the directions to the letter, obviously I screwed up somewhere. I then attempted to perform a factory reset from the ClockworkMod Recovery which yielded no results. I then attempted the Viper ROM, again wiping the data and that said installation was successful. Still it refused to boot. I then tried this return to stock and with that, the .zip folder is automatically loaded but then does nothing. As of right now I cannot get past the HTC screen.

Well don't panic first of all. It's not super easy for me to figure out what's going on because your setup is quite different from mine, but I'm willing to offer any knowledge I have gleaned from reading these forums (a lot).
When you tried to go to stock, you went to the bootloader and it found the PG32IMG? Or it just stayed on the options screen of reboot, recovery, factory reset, etc?
If it found the PG32IMG did it give you any messages? Did you check the md5 sum before trying to load it?

haha too late for that, I'm already freaking out. It does find the PG32IMG automatically as I said and proceeds to load it. I was able to catch the message it flashes before it goes back to the default list, "wrong zipped image!" That doesn't sound good. I had not checked the md5sum prior to this, just did so now, says the codes do not match. Pardon my utter cluelessness but what on earth does that mean?

You need to post the md5 sum from the return to stock thread, it is right below the download. If it doesn't match after that, you have a bad download and need to download it again on a good connection. I can't see the md5 very well in your screenshot, but it looks like it is correct. Then the other thing to check is that windows didn't add an extra .zip to the file name. You'll have to go into folder options and make it show known file types then see if it says it is PG32IMG.zip.zip or something. I'll keep looking around to help, but I'd suggest reading through a lot or all of that return to stock thread.
Is the file in the root of your microsd or in a different folder like downloads?

Ok I corrected myself with the md5sum checker and now it confirms the codes match. I then doubled checked the file extension and it looks good as far as I can tell, I did not see a double .zip.zip anywhere, even after I selected "show file extensions of known files". I just tried again and got the same message,
"Checking....[PG32IMG.zip]
Wrong zipped image!
Loading...[PG32IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!"

Well, I'm running out of ideas. Hopefully someone else can chime in. I'd try downloading again and make sure the md5 is good, put it on the root of the microsd, and try one more time. Other than that my knowledge is spent.

well I certainly appreciate you trying to help anyways. just on a hunch I tried running through the steps of the HTCdev bootloader which I had originally done and after doing so, it now says the following,
"Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot."
that is interesting, should I try the VIPER ROM again and see what happens now?
Well I am happy to report now I have figured it out! I managed to find this video and by following his steps, I was immediately able to get the Viper ROM up and running. So I guess that is what I was doing wrong, trying to follow the S-Off Method when I had already gone halfway with the HTCDev method. Very glad I was able to get it done tonight, another case of "if I can break it, I can fix it!" case closed.
