Hey.
My desire is driving me crazy!
It is (was) rooted and s-offed with a Coolexe-ROM on it.
A few month ago I opened a thread where I described random reboots an freezes. This somehow stopped after 2 weeks or so and I could use my desire as usual. Before that, there was this problem with the SD card, which couldn't be mounted. It wasn't working anymore and I bought a new one.
Since yesterday evening the random freezes, reboots and shutdowns started again. So badly that I could hardly keep it on for a few minutes.
I noticed, that the signal bar was showing the little cross mark, so that I couldn't even place calls or text someone.
So I decided to do a RUU flash, hoping that rooting it again and so on would solve the problem.
Turns out it didn't!
The signal bar is randomly showing me the cross icon (sometimes I have H or G connection though). In this unrooted state it doesn't freeze, reboot or shut down.
I tried to save the data from my SD card 2 times (in harddrive-mode), but after a while the windows explorer wasn't reacting and crashed.
I was able to save some of the data though.
This seems like a hardware problem (doesn't it?)...
Has someone experienced similar problems? (could this be the famous motherboard fault?)
Is it the SD card, or is the desire bricking the sd card?
I have no idea what to do. Is this something I could fix myself or do I have to send it in?
Hope someone can help me...
edit: I just noticed, that when windows explorer crashes and I change back to charging only-mode, I cannot view the SD card state under the settings menu...
Did you try removing the SD card and use the SD card by a card reader?
Also flash a new Rom? Or factory reset?
Hope you have a nand backup
when I tried using a card reader my PC wouldnt even recognize the card...
after the RUU-flash I did a factory reset from the settings menu... or is there another way?
I mean, shouldnt it be like a factory reset anyways after a RUU-flash?
If I am correct ruu deals with the recovery and radio part
I'm not sure though
Try contacting senior members
as it seems my SIM card is at least part of the reason.
I put in another one and the connection problems are gone. but now they appear in the phone in which I put the old SIM ^^
so maybe (hopefully) it is just the SIM which I am going to change tomorrow in a shop.

This morning, my phone was normal. Using apps, making calls, no problems.
Then I noticed my ring tones and my notification tones wouldn't play. Since they are stored on the Micro SD card, I thought a reboot might solve the problem. After rebooting, I get the message "SD Card Damaged". So I took it out from my phone, plugged it into the computer through a USB MicroSD reader. It detects it, and from there I can see all the files stored on there.
I decided to run a Windows (7) error check test, as that usually fixes any sort of SD problem I've had. The check ran through successfully, saying it found some problems and fixed them. After that, I put it back in the phone, boot it up, but it still wouldn't access the card. Most of my apps are stored on there, so I wanted it fixed. I took out the card and ran it through windows error check once more, only this time, I checked the box "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" and hit start. Two hours later, I notice the progress bar hasn't budged from what I can only assume was 60-65%. I decided to hit "cancel" and look up some alternative methods.
Except as soon as I hit "Cancel", something went terribly wrong. The computer no longer acknowledged I had a MicroSD card inserted. I removed the USB adapter, removed the mSD, reinserted the mSD into the USB adapter, replugged the adapter in and -- same result. I restarted the computer, and while that cycle started, I placed the card back into the phone to see if it would detect it. No luck. By this time, the computer had restarted, and I tried to reinsert the card. It detects the USB Adapter, but it's as though there was no card inserted.
At this time, I scoured the web and countless forums (including these @ xda) with no avail. I tried nearly 10 different applications built solely for data extraction, but they all had the same problem: they couldn't detect the MicroSD card. My fellow I.T. coworker suggested using an Ubuntu Live CD and try their diagnostic tools; it couldn't detect it either.
Here are the specs of my setup:
Phone: HTC Desire CDMA (USCC)
Rom: Phoenix 1.4 BravoC
Card: Samsung 8GB Class 2 MicroSD (stock from US Celluar)At this point, all I'm really concerned about it just retrieving my lost data. I have important sentimental photos, and more importantly, I have important flash backups from my stock rom that I would need if I want to return my phone for warranty. Physically, the card is undamaged. No dust, no cracks, no wear & tear. Hours of googling "SD card not detected; data recovery" leads me to several unanswered problems and fake websites baiting computer illiterate people into downloading malicious software.
I've heard of solutions that involve sending a card in to have repaired, but in turn, shelling out a couple hundred. Now I'm not stupid when it comes to computers, but I'm not necessarily a genius either. I've tried several ways to circumvent this lockout issue, and I can't find any way to undo a process from the Windows error checker. Hell, I can't find any cases or threads pertaining to people having bigger problems because of the error checker.
So I call out to anyone who can help. I can buy a new card, no problem. I just need my data back. It's crucial for my phone and important for me and my memories.
Any suggestions?
Hi
My phone:
Disire HD (GSM)
Android 2.3.3
CyanogenMod 7.0.0 RC2
I had the same problem as you a few weeks ago(my phone wasn't rooted) ....
Tried different methodes to get my data back, they all didn't work.
The problem is not the phone or any app on it neither your roms are the problem,
searched the internet... and came to the solution that I was not alone with this problem. they assume this is an hardware fould in the SD card ( btw its weird that its an Samsung SD, didn't you thought the same I still dont understand...)
Anyway, my solution was going back to the shop where I got the phone (Belcompany NL) and ask there solution for the problem i lost all my pics and other importand crap haha..
They didn't had a solution or something, just giving me a new one.. so I got a new SD Card (for free )
But lost all my data
You know if a partition messes up, which it has done because you didn't let it finish, there is like 0% chance that you can recover any data on your SD card. You should of backed your card up before you attempted to even start doing a disk check. As for getting your SD back up and running, you can try gparted live cd and see if it will detect it in that. If so just repartition it, but next time, let it do a thorough disk check and finish. Checks can take hours and hours because it is doing something. Just backup your SD card frequently.
I've decided to purchase a new card rather than hassle with unrooting my phone for the sake of going back to the USCellular repair (on just a whim that they may replace the card).
I've heard that I need to be careful when choosing a brand of MicroSD cards. Transcend is a no go. But what about this: An 8GB A-DATA Class 6 MicroSD card?
From what I've gathered, A-DATA is a reputable brand, and it shouldn't really cause problems in my HTC Desire, right?
I am having trouble with the SD card in my HTC Incredible.
A few hours ago I started getting all of these "force close" messages popping up on my phone saying processes were not responding. I then realized that all of the apps that were on my SD card were no long accessible. (none of the apps would open, their icons were blank, etc)
However, when I plug my phone into a PC and set is as a disk drive, I can still browse to the removable disk and see everything. (the data is still there?)
My phone has been very slow since this all started happening.
Things I've tried:
rebooting phone
removing/re-inserting SD card
unmounting/remounting SD card
clearing cache+dalvik cache in clockwork recovery
mounting card as disk drive and running error check in Windows
copying all data off, reformatting card, and replacing data
my phone is rooted
Unfortunately I do not have access to another SD card to try in my phone..
Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas for me?
Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Tyler
Cards probably fine. Sounds like the ROM is flaky with all the FC's. Try reflashing the same ROM without a wipe and if that does not help reflash with a full wipe.
Going to agree with Nils on this one too. I started getting a lot of FC and SD card stuff right before I changed from the leaked 2.3.4 Incredible. I reflashed everything and didn't experience anymore for the week and half I stayed stock.
Have sense changed ROMS, but Nils suggestion worked indirectly for me.
With all due respect to NilsP because you're most def the f-ing man and know more about all of this realm than I ever will, I must disagree however. I had a similar problem with an sdcard I bought off of ebay (kingston 32gb), I got 2 of them for about 50 bucks (I should have known that it was too good of a deal). Apps would disappear, but the data was there. I formatted the card, everything would work fine for a couple weeks and then it would take a crap again. If this sounds familiar then that may be your problem
Hey guys,
a few month ago, i created 2 threads here.
My sd-card simply stopped working and I couldnt find the issue, even replacing the slot did not help.
Today, suddenly, my bootloader recognized the card with a PC10IMG, just tried this one out.
I could upgrade, got to the newest radio, and android 2.3 (Virtous Sense 2) could use the sdcard.
But at first, wlan did not work, so i restarted the phone.
Now everything seems fine, except that after a few seconds, the SD-Card is "unexpectedly removed". or "damaged". I cannot format the card using the phone, even in recovery menu its unmountable after a few seconds. Example: I chose "install zip from sdcard", could find the rom on it, but when it started installing, the installation immediately aborted and after this, the sdcard wont answer anymore in any way. This is reproducable by simply formating the card again using the computer.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thx in advance..

Its possible the connections for the sd card slot are damaged or that you got a damaged replacement, or that you might have damaged it on installation. I'm leaning towards the connection on the main board being damaged in some way. it's strange that it is intermittent.

I dont think its a problem with our memory cards. Either the card slot that Samsung made is of very poor quality or it is a problem with the latest ICS firmware. There A LOT of people facing this problem out there including my cousin who is the only other person i know with an S3. Not only does his memory card slot disconnect and reconnect, it completely killed it, it does work anymore. In some situations online, i have seen that people have ruined 2-3 memory cards by putting it in the S3.
I am facing the same problem and it is getting on my nerves. I live in a third world country so I might not receive a new phone.
Please find a solution XDA FORUM! :crying:
Had the same issue with my S3.
Turned out that the SD card was dying (the card brand is Team Group), this caused it to be unmounted by itself and then mounted again (sometimes showing notification “sd card removed unexpectedly”), hence triggering the “Media” scanning process and significantly draining the battery.
I created an application to monitor how many times the SD card was removed, and turned out to be unmounted every ~3 mins!!!
I then bought a new Transcend 32GB Class 10 card (made in Korea), and until now, this never happens, no reports from the application whatsoever, and no media process eating my battery.
I just published this app in the play store now, this is the link:

Several weeks ago my G3 started to throw errors "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed", and then phone is trying to mount sd card back.
I have already tried: reformat my sd card, brand new sd card, stock firmware (4,5 and6) none of these helped.
Also it doesn't look like hardware issue: i put sd card the other day and everything worked fine for a whole day, no error messages. And then it came back. Reinserted card could work for a day , or could begin push errors immediately.
Any thoughts how to fix ?

I have a t-mo G3 D851 that does the same thing. With stock MM, it was doing it randomly, as you seem to describe happening in your case. After flashing Fulmics, it seems to happen only after a reboot or a cold start from power off. I am suspecting that it's a hardware issue. Bought it "new" as a store demo device.

Sucks ... Mine does the same thing...the stupid phone is already hard enough to read as it is with the phone always getting hot and dimming the screen now this crap...thanks alot LG for your Korean crap...i also own a 42LG70 and sometimes the screen doesn't even power up when i turn on the tv...(duration of error=5+yrs) yea i think im done buying cheap LG crap and going back to Sony as they are definately more reliable!!
Hello,
Since today, my phone isn't recognising the internal SD card anymore (It was set up as an internal SD card) and it wouldn't stop rebooting itself until it had no battery anymore.
Is it a common software problem?
I'm using my phone for only a week..
Thank you!
Oh damn, same here! Mine keeps rebooting every 10 seconds, except it does recognise the sd, but not much use from it when you can't use it...
Edit: It's clearly not a common problem as I haven't seen any threads addressing this specific behaviour, I can suggest flashing stock firmware, in all honesty my case is probably worse as whatever rom or stock I flash it always reboots.
