Hi,
How can I take screenshots from my phone? in ipods U hold pwr and home button together, so in HTC Wildfire there is a similar way to do screenshots? If not please tell me the way to do screenshots.
Thx
You need an app to make screenshots. Search the Market for it but i think they don't work without root.
Maybe there is one that works without but i'm not sure.

There a more ways to take a screenshot:
1. If you are on cyanogenmod, the screenshot option is build-in. Just press your power button for a long time and in the menu that appears, you will see the option to take a screenshot.
2. You can take screenshots with the use of adb (i.e. with the use of your computer). An excelent how-to can be found here. This way doesn't require root access to your phone, and works very well.
3. If you are rooted and you want to take screenshots without the use of adb and your computer, you can search the market and/or google. There are lots of apps that do the trick.
4. If you are not rooted, than it is complicated, as most apps require root access. I have found one ("Screen Capture"), but I haven't been able to test it. It requires a long set-up, and I haven't found the courage to do it
Hope I was any help!
Besides Screen Capture another name of apps? Cause I dont have time to look 10 pages in google to find the right apps. So if someone knows, please give the name . I'll appreciate. Thx
Drocap, ShootMe are among the more popular ones.
I use ddms.bat in the Android SDK, so I cannot tell you which of the above two is better.

I used drocap or screenshot it from market. But i think drocap is better.
Edit: Drocap is not available in every Market. If you don't find it in yours you have to search google for it.

Sorry i don't use those apps anymore because i have a customrom on my DHD where the screenshot function is built in.
All you have to do is to type "dro cap.apk" without"" in google and search for a site to download. Than copy it to your SD Card and install.
Make sure that "unknown sources" is checked in settings - applications.
This takes maximum 2 minutes.
Edit: I did the most work for you. You have to do the rest.

Could someone tell me how to take a screenshot please? search yielded little and old results. i am using MIUI, and not sure if it changes among ROMS, or is always the same method. I'm trying to get a pic of something that keeps popping up asking me to deny or allow when i get an SMS, and need to find the root cause of it. any help would be greatly appreciated...

Download logcat from the market. Or download something drocap that takes screenshots. Search the market. Miui does that though. Hit always allow next time it comes up and it wont come up anymore.

If you're on MIUI, just press menu and volume down to take a screenshot.
thanks fella's. but i have repeatedly hit allow, and it keeps coming up. not until recently has the "deny" or "allow" pop up been happening. and I've always had the latest MIUI...strange.
oh yeah, also, how do i retrieve the shot? gallery, or what?
nvm, i found it. thanks for the help..

I second this, good app.
Also go to the market and download SuperUser and delete the default one in MIUI, that one has issues.
which miui version are you using, I use the miui.us 1.6 and when pressing vol down and menu I hear the camera snap a pic. The pic is stored in the miui folder not in camera shots.
search tool seems to be down or gone so i gotta use this method.
i am rooted and have root explorer installed but i cant seem to remove some of the bloat like asphalt and some of the crap sprint puts on there that i dont need. if any one can point me in the rite direction i would greatly appreciate it

That was actually in the first kernel you flashed before installing anything...the one that gets CWM or ACS recoveries to "stick" upon reboot.
In root explorer, go to system/apps and hit the r/o button. Long press and delete the apps you don't want. Turn off phone and turn back on. I hate the stock browser and always remove it this way if I forget to remove it from the Rom/Theme. Be careful what you delete. You can also add a .bak extension to the file to deactivate it in case you may want it later.
when i do that it sayd it cant be deleted because it is read ony
titanium backup is easy enough to remove what you don't want.

go back to qbking's videos. he has a few in order to install the acs recovery and make it stick, along with the new "stock" update from sprint. once you apply these installation steps, your gps, keyboard issues, and other things will be fine. i do apologize, i cannot post any links on here just yet. but i did do the steps in his videos and i have no problems.
Hey all. I decided to release the raw files for the Search to Recent mod. I am still working on getting the flashable zip to work, but I've dragged you all on long enough to get this released.
NOTE: Make sure to do a backup of your current ROM. I take no responsibility for what this may do to your phone.
This was built using the Andro ICS repo. I have not tried it on the pure CM9 build, but I would assume it works as Andro is also based on CM9. Additionally, this only rebinds the touchscreen search key. The hardware keyboard search key remains search.
Here are the two files:
android.policy.jar
atmel-touchscreen.kl
To install these files, mount /system through recovery and use adb to push the files to the appropriate locations.
/system/framework/android.policy.jar
/system/usr/keylayout/atmel-touchscreen.kl
Unmount /system, reboot and that is it.
EDIT: Thanks to the wonderful work of gee one, a working flashable zip is now available! (Be sure to give him so "thanks" lovin for helping out) If any issues are encountered, please let me know and I will help out where I can.
Enjoy!
I sent you PMs
Got it. Testing it now and will let you know in the next 10.
Works great! Loving having an actual use for the search button!

Anything come of this?
Still working on it. I've been going back and forth with Powers in PMs about it. My android.policy file is causing a boot loop. I had to take a break on it for the past few days to reconfig my server, but I hope to start working on it again tonight, or this weekend.
Hello. Can you build this patch for andromadus audacious beta 2? for now, it works, device boots, but some menus and stuff linked with android.policy.jar is corrupted. I flashed only .kl file, it makes search button to bring up old-style recents menu - may be useful, too.
Yeah I found this didn't work a few days ago when I upgraded to B2. I never even was able to complete this for the Droid 3. After I got my server back up and running I just haven't had a whole lot of time to sit down and work on it. I don't work my second job this weekend, so maybe I can sit down saturday and knock it out.
thanks for answer =)
Also, is it necessary to patch up android.policy.jar? Is long press of "home" button is being handled in that file?
I tried to find some manuals about android key event handling this in the internets, but i only got .kl\.kcm editing manuals.
It is necessary to patch the android.policy as just changing the kl file brings up the 2.3 app switcher. I would assume that the home long press is handled differently and cannot be bound in the same functions without the file change.
Can u make this for sense 3.0 rom?

can anyone make a patch for andromadus? thx

you'll need to be rooted, and use an app like Root Explorer, or any app that has a file manager that can access system level. go to System>App> and find two files, one is SamsungCamera.API and SamsungCamera.odex either change the name of both of these files (eg: SamsungCameraOLD.API and. odex) or delete them, either way SamsungCamera.API and SamsungCamera.odex should not exist anymore. now that you've done that, use that root file manger to place his hacked SamsungCamera.apk and place it in the same folder (System>App>). then restart your phone.
note* you may need to mount your R/W card, you can simply do that by the giant button at the top of Root Explorer.

If you're on a deodexed rom, then you won't have those files. Just reboot after dropping the apk in there, make sure your permissions are correct, and you'll be good to go.
What are the correct permissions? I tried flashing the zip through CWM but no go. I'm on a deodexed Rom also tried dropping the Samungcamera.apk file into system/app...
Thanks
I hear there was a camera mod that made shooting videos a much higher quality but it only worked for the international version of the GSlll. Perhaps doing it for this would be possible at a later date?

I am actually working on the higher bit-rates also. I have a few versions right now, in testing, the only issue I am running into right now is that when you use the power button for the shutter, it also triggers the power menu. It still takes the picture and all, but its an annoyance.
Has the video recorder always had that click-click sound whenever the ringer volume is on?? That's really annoying. I thought shutter sound in the camera controlled both.

CWM and TWRP installs are interchangeable in most, if not all cases. Definitely when you're talking about a simple script like this one.

Like Internet Download Manager for desktop, is there anything like that for Android, reliable, fast, has the option to pause/resume files, multi threaded and all?
I have found one version of IDM (1.0), however I don't think it's an official one, it has been pulled down from Play anyway. Also there is Loader Droid, but it doesn't provide a stable pause-resume option. There is also Advanced Download Manager, Download Manager for Android and so on...
