Hello I'm new to XDA and was wondering weather there was anything I could do to my wildfire S to free memory , I have always had a memory problem from day one of having this phone , any information would be appreciated
Thanks
Charlene
..happened to me as well..my main problem was dropbox, you can try to uninstall it.
I did a factory reset and installed less trash apps..
On the other hand you have a couple of better solution.
- You can move some apps to SD using an app called app2sd (or also using the android settings under "SD and phone storage" you can click on "make more space" and move some apps to SD)
- you can root the phone and use link2SD..there is a great thread on how to root the phone in the "android development" forum section..in this section you should find the link2sd thread
once internal memory come back available this phone gets lovely..

Hello
is there a way to free space on the internal memory ?
i have something like 17 mb left which is not enough in my opinion
i havent rooted or anything, latest official rom from htc is installed and all apps that support installing on sd card are on it.
Delete apps
No other way other than to go custom and use a ROM with A2SD+

))) Try moving what you can to sd. Or root and move everything.
hmmm ok.
thx, hoped there would be some other method, the lack of internal memory sucks
I suggest you install DiskUsage from the Market. The app shows you the .apk's on the internal storage and the size of the data connected. Click on a data position (preferably "Cache") and then Menu > Show and you are in the Settings > Applications > Manage Apps section of the phone at the respective app. You then can delete the cache data. (I would suggest that you don't touch the system apps, but your downloaded apps only.) Some apps really gather lots of data by the time, which you can easily delete, like EStrongs File Explorer.
You can also deinstall your email accounts and re-install them. This will also free a lot of internal storage. And, of course, you can go into the settings menu of the internet browser and delete all cache there.
Furthermore, under Froyo, you can use the ADB setInstallLocation (search for it in the General Topics section) command in order to shift really most apps to the SD card.
I hope this helps.
thanks
sad thing is i have done most of those things so it seems i have to possibilities, either being stuck with low storage or root and move apps to sd card.
hey
thanks again for your help.
rooted my phone and went the setinstalllocations way.
now got 28 mb free on internal which is far less than i expected. but at least i can now install all apps on sd.
strange thing: moved a 26 mb big app to sd but it doas not seem to free 26 mb of storage.
htc should make slimmer roms
Backup all your apps, reset the phone and reinstall all over. It will probably take you 30 mins and will free up way more memory. I usually do it once a month if I install/uninstall a lot of apps. There is a stupid memoryleak somewhere...at least on my phone there is.

Not all apps installs do internal memory. Some end up at the SD by default and many of those that installs to the internal can be moved to the SD.
A tiny part will be left on the internal memory but this really should not be an issue for you. You can have tons of apps.
Use the phone as u want and see where u end up at
Also "the tiny part which will be left on the ROM" will have around 1MB
i'm looking on this matter now, so i'm waiting to root my phone and clear some unused application, to clear my ROM
so how can we move apps on sd card

Head to Settings->Applications->Installed applications and find the app u want to move to SD. Click it and click "Move to memorycard"
Not all apps can be moved this way tho but it helps a bit!
yes there is the option to move them to sd card but it not apply to all apps
is there any software app who can move every thing to sd card then please tell
thank for your time sharing with this post..........
It's prossible to do a 'full' apps2sd if you have a rooted phone and a specially partitioned SD card, but i havent tried it on the arc so dunno if it will actually work.
I dont know why you really need to do this though. The root method i mention above was popular before 2.2 added built in apps2sd, particularly on older phones with small amounts of internal storage, but since android 2.2 there really isnt much point. I've got *tons* of apps installed on my arc, and still have more than half the space left.
There doesnt appear to be a massive thread describing how to get full apps2sd working for a rooted arc, the reason for this is because nobody really needs it. What are you trying to do that needs this?
be careful some apps wont work when their on your sd that why you can't move them.
for example don't move your launcher app ( when using one ) and don't move apps if you use a widget from the app ( or the app is a used widget )

I had the same issue as the OP..
I had install many apps, and then there is warning that my memory is low
I already installed app2sd and moved some apps to sd, but not all apps can be moved.
Is it possible to use an EXT partition on sd as an internal memory?
This trick is common in HD2 world (when using NANDROID).
I havent tried it with my Arc because it is unrooted.
If anyone has tried it, please share it with us
Thanks and cheers ...
I place all my apps too the internal storage. It's easy and there is enough space on the phone
Hi there,
I have this problem. I did noticed it just now.my phone keeps informing me there is not enough space in phone.i uninstalled few apps imstaled few other apps and so on so on.now i have only 16 Mb left.i noticed it on last app.i tried a few apps and games but after uninstallong them(via settings/manage applications) not all of the storage they have occupied have been gained aftwr uninstal.so basically some storage was lost somewhere.i cannot find any apps related files on phone and also they are write protected folders on phone memory(this is becasue i have NO root i guess).so i cannot delete the leftovers.what to do now?how to get the storage back? is this common issue? Also i have an issue that i cannot install/update apps on sd card. I have to install/move-then-update them on phone memory and then move them to sd card.for eg Mapdroyd cannot be installed.it keeps saying "could not install on usb storage or sd card" or smthng like that.i have to unmount the sd install it and then move it manually.
I am using stock 2.2.
I am considering an factory reset but i want to fix it if possible and prevent in future.
Any advice?

I had exactly the same problem with my son's Wildfire, but as I had already rooted and installed a custom ROM on my Desire to solve the same issue i was keen to root the Wildfire too. The procedure is painless (Revolutionary is a Noob friendly semi-automated process - search in the Android Development thread). I used Deep Knights ROM and now have 133Mb free space after loading loads of apps and games. Take the plunge!
Hi guys,
I have the Cachemate app and after clearing the cache, it showed my used internal memory at 115mb. I did not install any new apps, but I did app updates from the Market and now it shows my used internal at 123mb. I have also cleared the web browsing history and all text messaging threads I had going. This would also happen on my Nexus One and Hero, so I know it's not just an E4GT issue. After about 3 months of just updating apps (and not installing any new ones) my internal memory would just keep going down and down. I would go into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and click on every app one by one and clear cache that way, but I could never get my internal memory to back to where it was when I first flashed a ROM and installed my apps initially. On my Hero, it got to the point where i couldn't update my apps anymore because it said i had no more space in memory to do so. Is there a reason why the internal memory keeps going down only from updating apps? Is there anything I can do to stop this, like a directory to manually clear out that is being missed by clearing the cache? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Did you have it moved to the sd card (USB storage) before and the update installed it on phone memory? Then just move it to USB storage again.

I move all the apps I can to the SD card. I keep some on the internal memory because i use their widgets and they won't load if the app is on the sd card. When the apps that are stored on the sd card get updated they definitely stay on the SD card but the internal memory still goes down. Same result with the apps that get updated that are stored on the internal memory of the phone. No matter which apps (SD or phone stored) get updated, the internal memory will keep going down until there's none left. I'd understand if the updates were a larger file size then the originals, but they aren't. I also just tried wiping the dalvik cache, but that didn't increase the memory either. It's just weird that I have to re-flash the same ROM every few months just so I can keep updating apps.
Download Memory Booster Lite from the market and check what is using your memory in the task killer. Kill apps you are not using that are autoloading. If they keep loading back up freeze them with something like Titanium pro or bloat freezer.

This is a common problem from kitkat to latest lollipop. And you can blame google for that, even when nobody knows why they enforce that policy so ridicuosly.
What comes to swapping, its not possible. If youre rooted you probably have tried link2sd or similar apps which make links to other places or if theyre not working, maybe other rom ?
Hi,
I am already using JB and moreover I have used link2sd and many similar apps they do work but the apps take a long time to load since they are on card and I also encounter some problems(apps that starup on boot doesn't work)
I have tried swapping internal and external through apps but they don't allow it in JB
If you can find int/ext memory swapper for JB that would be helpful
