(Help) Sense restarts all the time ! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Something that is really ticking me off after I updated my phone to 4.24, is that most of the time when i go into any app , and go back to the home page, the white and green HTC logo pops up and sense loads all over again ! Anyone else having this bug?

My phone just started doing that, it seemed to happen right after installing Google Plus. Do you have Google Plus installed?

I suggest backing up ur SD card and formating it and doing a fresh install of Rom. That's what worked for me.

He's on the stock unrooted (and unrootable) rom. Backing up everything isn't really possible. His only option along those lines would be a hard reset with some data loss (of course most of the big things can be backed up or synced). If I were in that situation, I'd want to try other things first.
LiL xSOULJAx, it sounds like you're running low on memory. When you go into another app, it's killing the launcher, so it has to restart when you press the home button. If you're talking about this happening when you go into a game or something that probably does take a lot of memory itself, there's not much you can do. But if it happens with every app, even relatively simple ones, you should check under Applications -> Manage -> Running and see if there's anything running in the background that takes a lot of memory. If you see something hungry you can live without, try uninstalling it.

Thanks alot for the info ! Yes i do have google plus but im about to uninstall alot of apps and see if it helps , thanks again

Here is a lot of info, that will show that a factory reset helps some, but the awaited update will be the only resolution, That is if they don't screw it up also:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/70838

Well now my issue is all over since they I rooted yesterday ! Its amazing how fun rooting is lol, the whole process is mindblowing !

Are you running a task killer? If you end up killing the calendar app that's running in the background, it will reboot sense like 50 percent of the time.

Will a hard reset remove root?

I'm rooted with unrevoked 3 and I want to remove the root so I can install the ota update. So if I do a factory reset will I be good to go? Also what is the best app to backup all of my apps and settings? Musy be a simple one because I'm clueless wirh this stuff. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
no, a hard reset will not. a reset only wipes userdata and cache and a few other things. why would you want an ota update???? just downlaod one of the roms our talented devs have created for you (most have the newest ota) and flash.
I would but I have no idea how to flash roms and backup and all of that. I don't even know how to find the roms. Or understand the terminology. And why wouldn't I want the ota update are those good because they fix issues and improve stuff?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ok, it seems this might be a little more complicated than a 2 sentence answer...
you wouldnt want an ota, not because it is not better than its predecessor, but because it is just what htc put in, and as you know, there is alot of stuff htc is not capable of, not willing to, or not creative enough to put in. that is why you would want a custom rom.
a rom is the Read Only Memory of the phone. it is the stuff that tells it what to do when something happens. it is everything you see and do when the phone is booted up, as well as while it is booting. if your phone is rooted, you can do whatever the hell you want to do with it.
the talented devs at xda (including me minus the talent) have made custom roms based off the ota's. most have little add ons and tweaks. some of the more in-depth ones have bigger changes, or even complete ui changes. these devs have packadged them in update.zip scripts, so that they will easily install on your phone. they can be found in the android dev section (in the evo forum)
before flashing a zip (installing a rom through a script) you will need to wipe everything, so it is reccomended to use the titanium backup app to backup all your apps, as well as the data in the apps.
any more questions? shoot

Thanks I've been researching for the past 3 hours and I've backed up with rom manager and titanium backup and I think I am ready to install my first rom. I'm looking for a completly stable rom with vanilla 2.2 that will let me use everything that I can use on stock like 4g,market, and everything else. Thanks again
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
as vanilla, do you mean the lockscreen??? if you do, easy fix. if you mean stock android stuff, you will have a hard time finding 4g there... i am always willing to help. as an extremely stable rom, i reccomend fresh. very stable and looooooong battery
Well not just the lock screen. I just want stock android with no UI at all. And I want everything to work. Thanks for helping me btw
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure there are no AOSP roms that have everything working, specifically 4G. I think there might be a couple Sense roms that have sense pretty stripped out that look and feel like AOSP, just dig around the development section.
If it's just the UI you care about, you can always install ADW or LauncherPro and make it look like AOSP. That way you have everything working and you get to keep some of Sense's finer parts, like the smart dialer (the AOSP dialer sucks!).
Ok.I'm thinking about trying the fresh rom is there anything that doesn't work with that? Does 4g work? Anything I should know about it? Lol
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think dude used the word vanilla as an adjective for plain HTC sense 2.2 and not AOSP.
Fresh is awesome. I have been using it for a while and just updated to the latest one today. It's a sense ROM, so everything works. The dock looks a little different compared to stock but that's it.
Alright cool. Because I'm getting horrible battery life even with having the processor underclocked. As soon as I take it off the charger it drops from 100% to 85% within 10 minutes of no use lol. Also wil titanuim backup work with fresh? Like can I restore e erything with no problems?

Titanium should work with any ROM.
FYI, the paid version will allow you to do a one click batch restore of all apps and data.
Yeah I have the paid ver. But what's the point of switching if the only differnce is the dock. Is the battery life THAT much better?

Switch what? What are you talking about? Fresh ROM? Read the 1st post of the Fresh ROM thread to learn what it features.
I just did the backup and now my pandora and scanner radio apps are gone? Weird
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
That's not the only difference, it's the only major VISUAL difference. Most of the other stuff is under the hood. I don't know what kind of battery life you've been getting but with Fresh and king's #11cfs kernel I get great battery life. I put a fresh battery in at 7 this morning and I still have 45%. I was streaming pandora and MeCanto for a couple hours, made a few phone calls, 20 or so texts, and maybe an hour of internet browsing.
Oh I forgot about kernals. How do I install a kernel? Do I have to install a kernal? What is a kernel? Lol

Those are questions better suited for Google.
Okay? But atleast tell me if I need one. I will be using rom manager to download and install rom.

it just too much stuff you need to configure properly for it to work well, i didn't have the time to go through all that
and after you install it, even if you un-install the app, all the locked down settings remains in the phone

[Q] How good it's speed improvement from root + factory reset?

"How good is..." Trying to understand what I can expect from a lag improvement. Any major warnings on apps NOT to freeze (other than home/launcher)?
Really hoping this phone gets some Cyanogen love and/or a debloat of the stock ROM with some feature adds.

I just did hard reset and reinstalled apps using titanium backup. It is a little bit faster but nothing revolutionary. The soft is definitely not optimized for this hardware. Reminds me of early days of Atrix 4G. As everyone thinks the dev support will be fairly limited, although there wont be any obsticles like with Atrix when the bootloader was locked for months. With Go Launcher setup took me 20 min to do it.

why would any of it be invalid?
I don't mean invalid per se, just that it's not clear which of the items might cause boot issues. It would be nice to have a list of which are bloat apps that can be uninstalled normally, which are bloat that must be uninstalled using Titanium Backup, which are more process oriented items that can still be uninstalled, and which are things someone definitely should not freeze or uninstall.
Really more of a corralling of what's already out there in an updated OP.

[Q] Market has missing apps, especially one that are installed and/or purchased

hello,
i have a epic 4g rooted, stock rom, seems that when i go to the market, it does not show the apps that i have installed and/or the ones that i purchased. additionally, if i were to delete one of these missing apps, they still dont show up in the market/google play. I have attempted to use various market enablers, but this has not solved my issue. on another note, and perhaps related, when i use titanium backup only one app shows setcpu, while previously it was working.
a lending hand would greatly be appreciated.

Try wiping data in Google Play, and let it rebuild your list. You may need to use Titanium backup for this.

The problem is FRUSTRATING the "F" out of me with Google Play. I have a rooted and running AKOP epicmtd milestone 5.2 and when I go to download certian apps (even ones I already had before on my apps list), I get a black box that says "This device isn't compatible with this version" It's making me crazy because there are LOTS of apps that are pretty common that I use I cant download. Like Facebook for instance. But there are more important ones that I count on that I cant get back. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone solve this problem?? I sure could use some help cause Im bout ready to throw this thing at my annoying step daughter LOL! Thanks

Hey Kenny, I followed the directions to the LCD settings thing here, and now I cant get into Play at all! GRRR. it says something about background data needing to be enabled, but when I click on the option box to "enable" this background data, it takes me to "accounts and sync" and from there I dont know what the heck to do. Ive rebooted from there, Ive done this process over and over about 5 times and it's still not working and now some of my app icons have been changed to the little android guy. VERY confused now EESH!! Anymore ideas?
Thanks,
Ridge
Reflash the ROM..isn't that standard density? It probably wants you to enable gmail sync and sign in.

At the very top of accounts and sync in the settings you will see background data... check the box... background data has to run for the market to run

[Q] SOLVED-Apps not gone after flash?!

Ever since I've started flashing ROMs, I've become accustomed to jumping on the market and re-installing all the apps that were deleted during the wipe process. No problem really, I like the idea of a fresh install. However, oddly enough, since flashing Ev1lArt's Wicked v7 and now his JB v3 Roms, the apps from the store persist. Third party apks are still in my downloads and I can re-install them, but the ones from the market instantly start downloading and updating once the phone is done booting up.
On one hand, I think it's fantastic! No more searching the store for all the apps I want.
On the other hand I'm concerned this is an indication of something gone wrong.
If anybody has any insight, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
Edit: Another question/afterthought. When I went from Wicked v7 (ICS) to v3 (JB) I used Odin and the root66 tar for a clean JB install. I was under the impression partitions would be re-allocated during this process, but there was no PIT file and the instructions are very clear about which boxes to check (ie, don't check re-partition). Am I missing something? Are PIT files not necessary going from ICS to JB? Also interesting to note, when I booted up after ODIN, my apps, wallpapers, Nova Launcher setup etc were all still there. I thought the point of doing a fresh ODIN install was to get the phone to an "out of the box" condition.
Am I just a worry wort? Should I just be happy that some Android magic has saved me some hassle? Thanks again.
Google is supposed to back up what was on your phone and then red download it (restore) from the play store. Downloads always stay, unless you wipe it.
When you say "wipe it", do you mean wipe data/factory reset in recovery? Cuz I always do that.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
That doesn't wipe storage/sdcard. The folders you see when you plug into a computer. Uninstalling apps also doesn't delete those folders
On some roms when you flash on the locations setup screen it will ask if you want to restore your apps from google play...if you leave it checked it well immediately start downloading your apps based off your google account...
Googles backs your data up always when flashing a new rom fireup the play store and go throught the log in thingy there will be an option that you can tick it says "keep my phone backed up whit google" simply untick and voila... its no issue at all trust me

If you are a little paranoid and want a true clean install, wipe system in recovery before you install your preferred rom. The Google restore had been hit and miss for me over the years so I stopped checking the box and relied on titanium backup. Sounds like it is working better now.
