BootManager - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Although not officially supported for the Droid Incredible 2 (not even on the list), it seems to work! Messing around with it now, but I was able to boot OMGB without any issues. Still some things that I need to figure out though, particularly with the GAPPS..

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what is boot manager?

Not a stupid question at all! Basically, allows for dualbooting your phone. Right now, I'm currently running RMK's GingerSense on the phone, and working on dual booting (well, up to 4 other ROM's) OMGB and OMFGB. Playing around though, since they don't officially support it...nor unofficially for that matter.
Not for the feint of heart at the moment though. To get back to the phone ROM, you have to use recovery to flash the backup of boot.img. Read what to do in the market app description.

is this a phone app or computer app...i wanna try it on the blown out dinc2 i gotta send bak

Pay for play phone app. Works well so far too.. Root is required though.

Been bouncing back and forth between GingerSense (on the phone) and OMGB (SD) all night.. Surprisingly fast even on stock microSD. As far as I can tell, everything seems to be working properly, but that isn't to say there isn't any underlying bugs. Very nice though being able to dual boot like that. My only concern though is how fast the microSD could die because of all the reads/writes.

This is very interesting. I would love to hear more reports for those who have tried this. Gingersense is my daily driver, but I would like to keep a CM7 build up to date simultaneously.

Damn! I was looking forward to this when I had my rooted Inc2, but now I'm stuck with it's replacement that's GB If anyone has a friend or knows someone that has an XTC Clip near Pasadena/Burbank/or San Bernadino County PM me!

Seems to work well so far. They are having issues with Sense-based ROMs running off the SD card though. I tried installing rmk's GingerSense a few times, was never able to get it to boot. AOSP ROM's seem to work just fine though.

I was using it on my Inc and Sense 2.x roms ran okay, it was just the Sense 3.0 roms that had trouble. MIUI also ran very well. it is a great tool.

I only tried one Sense ROM, but it would freeze. Talked to one of the devs, and they were also having issues with other HTC devices and Sense. Sounds like they may have it fixed though for the next release, but I won't say that with any certainty.

Tried 1.3 which officially supports Inc 2, but couldn't pass the boot.img installation. Hmmmm

Bootmanager
Guys if it's failing to make the boot.img first make sure your using the market version....others have released cracked versions of our app which they broke...if your using the actual market version just send me a pm or email [email protected] and send your log.txt from BootManager folder on sdcard and we'll get it straightened out. Thanks.

Damn! Wanted to buy it but I only have 2.50 on my debit card :/ Anychance of a sale sometime soon?

Definitely make sure you guys are getting in touch with their devs.. They've been real responsive for me.

I am using bootmanager v1.3 on an htc incredible 2 & I am having problems installing the google addons
After loading cryanogenMod 7.1 into slot 1 & booting into that just fine, I open ROM manager & dl the google addon for cm 7.1 then boot into recovery to load the addons, I can find the addons in the download folder & i select it but it never flashes & I dont have the market to authenticate bootmanager or put my apps on the cm rom & have to load the original phone image back on
Do I need to put google addons zip on the root of the SD card & flash it from there?
Thanks

Don't flash GAPPS from within Recovery.. Flash it from within BootManager itself. I do it right after installing the ROM I'm putting into whatever slot I'm putting it in. If you flash from Recovery, it flashes it to the ROM on the phone itself.

Thanks sk0t,
The bootmanager support emailed me back within 10 minutes, I emailed them then posted here.
Everything is working great now.
Here is what the developer wrote "You need to flash google add on's or any other ad on's from with in the
bootmanager app. Recovery will only affect your phones rom. The
bootmanager app is the "recovery" for all sd rom's. When flashing
something like gapps you flash it just like you flashed the rom only DO
NOT select any of the wipe checkboxes."
On my way to the market now to give app a review, 5 stars, ultra fast support, would have developers back in a bar fight!!!
Thanks again

Just got my Evo and want to get new ROM

I am wanting to put a new ROM on my new EVO. I got it from sprint the other day and want all its bloatware off of it. I am new to this but I have dont similar things in the past.
Reasons I want to ROOT and flash:
Get rid of sprint bloatware
Unlock Wi-Fi tethering ability
Get best and most optimized version of android
Now here is where I need your help...I dont really know which rom to get. Is the 2.3 Gingerbread ROM work with no bugs? I dont want to be a buggy beta tester I want something solid but something better than what I have.
Here is my phone information:
Android Version
2.2
Baseband Version
2.15.00.11.19
Kernel Version
2.6.32.17-gee557fd
htc-kernel(at)and18-2#15
Build Number
3.70.651.1 CL294884
Software Number
3.70.651.1
Browser Version
Webkit 3.1
PRI version
1.90_03
PRL Version 6067
I dont know what some of it means but if you could tell me what I should update and give me a little information on how to do it. I dont know what baseband/radio does. I dont have the latest version should I get it?
Mainly I want help on choosing a ROM to flash to. Gingerbread would be nice but if there isnt a stable version just link me to a better ROM of 2.2 to flash to. I just want rid of all this bloatware and I want to be able to theater.
Thanks for the help =)
try vaelpak 3.2, i've been using it for a while now and love it its like a mix of sense roms with asop roms but with sense base so everything works flawlesly
If your looking for a good rom that is stable and everything works. I would strongly recommend Vaelpak 3.2 RC2. I have been running this rom for about 2 months straight, well it started as RC1. Everything works and will do what you asked above. The software is still 2.2, mainly because Jim is waiting for the final versos of 3.2 to be released. Yes I have had a few minor issues, more like minor annoyance. But when one comes up I get on there forum and Jim always seems to be able to fix the issue.

Go to the dev section and find the CM thread. You need to flash the "gapps" (google apps) in order to get the google mail, market, re-sync contacts, etc. Not sure if you can do that thru rom manager, I've never used it.

There are many, many roms out there. It just depends on the what you are looking for. As for me I like having a rom that is not only stable for everyday use, but also having everything work properly. Not all roms are created equal and will vary in features. Like I stated before I love using vaelpak, but other people will swear by different roms. As for cm7, I have used it. But it just wasn't for me and screwed with my phone. As for the rooting process I would recommend Unrevoked. Very quick and simple. Also always do backups, even after rooting your phone. The other nice thing about Vaelpak over cm7, not trying to bash cm7 or its developers. But with Vaelpak there is a thing under settings were all the new radios and kernals are listed. Someone please correct me if i am wrong, with cm7 you have to flash back to a "sense" rom to update the radios. And if you cant tell I am very bias with Vaelpak, I have tryed others but they simply dont compair.

Chances are if you just got the phone it should be current or you can go under settings> system updates and update your firmware(wouldn't recommend if you plan on rooting),profile, PRL ans the software. The radios are what allows you to have service. Once again someone correct me if I am wrong.
With certain Roms (Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo comes to mind) you will need to make sure you have the latest everything. There's a link in the thread for the rom to a flashable zip - you flash this through recovery as you would a rom, kernel, etc. Read the first few posts in the thread for a rom you're going to flash. You don't want to miss something.
I flash everything manually through recovery (Amon Ra specifically, but which you use is entirely your preference) to minimize error & ensure everything that I want to wipe is wiped - properly. If you feel more comfortable with Rom Manager, there's nothing wrong with that. I recommend at least learning how to do it all manually in case you're ever in a bind.
As far as roms go - try them out... all of them. Or at least the ones that fit your needs. For stable and close to stock I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. Warm Z is also nice, with a newer version of Sense. Vaelpak is a really great rom if you want certain Sense apps (like the dialer) but without the Sense launcher/additional useless crap. CM7 is a great 2.3 AOSP rom. It's actually stable now, but you might need to do the GPS fix if you have issues with the GPS. MIUI is another 2.3 AOSP rom, it's very polished but no 4G. It's a lot different than CM7 or any other rom. There are some "GingerSense" roms out now, but from what I've heard they're not stable at this point.
Three random tips:
1) Do not pull the battery during a radio update. After you reboot you'll see a black screen with a downwards arrow or an Android in a box. Just wait for it to finish. If you freak and pull the battery, your phone is most likely dead forever.
2) Buy Titanium Backup Pro and Root Explorer. Two most useful apps I've paid for. With either of these apps you can remove any unwanted apps (or with TB, freeze them). So if a rom comes with apps you don't want, you can easily get rid of them.
3) Don't base anything on quadrant scores, they're pretty much useless. Even if a rom puts you below average, ignore it as long as you're happy with your phone.

Cyanogen has really disappointed me. I was running mod 6 on my hero for a long time with no problems, then mod 6 on my evo with no problems. I installed mod 7 on my evo about a month ago and it has already basically crapped out on me twice. Just becoming really slow and everything force closing or just giving me a black screen when I try to open the app. Then I restore it back to right when I flashed it, and it works great for a couple weeks. I would suggest trying the vaelpak 3.2. I have no idea how it is, but I am gonna flash it right now and see how it is during the day tomorrow.

Has anyone used Boot Manager?

Seen this yesterday. Anyone use it yet? Goods/bads?
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...to-5-roms-on-one-device-flashaholics-rejoice/
I would sooo use that but I'm too cheap(internet broke) to buy that. I've always been plagued with having to choose a rom. I end up sticking with one for a while. Like just today I went to MIUI after a month of Synergy.
EDIT: I might be getting this app soon
Sounds like the devs on the app are committed to helping their customers iron out the kinks. When I get my evo back from being flashed I am going to install it and post back to this thread. Thanks for the heads up.
Just installed decks and the express roms.
Booted in to decks, set it up, no issues. The first boot seems to take a while.
Now switching to express.
UPDATE 1 -
After switching to the express rom, I was not really able to use the rom. I decided you pull up the application to switch back to the phone rom.
The application kept force closing. It did this on the phone rom and decks.
I then followed the instructions to flash the update.zip file to get back to the original rom. Now Im stuck on the bootloader screen. When the phone reboots it comes right back to the bootloader.
UPDATE 2 -
Wiped the cache, delvik and rebooted same issue.
Reflashed the phone rom - same issue.
Wiped the cache, delvik, reflashed the phone rom, rebooted - same issue
Wiped the cache, delvik, flashed decks from rom1, rebooted - BACK IN BUSINESS.
It seems that the initial phone rom is corrupt.
UPDATE 3 -
Trying to get back to the original rom from decks.
Went back to BootManager, selected phonerom from the list of installed roms - same issue as before.
Followed the same steps as in update 2 and Im back in decks
I hope to get a chance to email the developers. Takes hours for it to "load" a rom. Then when I try to run it, I get an error saying that the rom is not there. Very annoying. Nothing has worked on it yet. Waste of money thus far.

I have tried 2 different synergy ROM's and have yet to be able to boot into either. After the install process I try to boot into them and it gives a boot.img failed to flash error. Click on the ROM's individually gives a message that there is no ROM installed in the slots.
No response from my email yet, hopefully we can get some answers.
I gave it a try, installed and loaded a rom, it was so slow, I could have flashed n restored back to my original rom 10x it took for this app to do it, it worked the way it was supposed to but takes to long

I tried it for about 10 mins could not get it to work just FC's so hit refund.
Not so sure if its the ROM im running but was not happy with it
Sorry for the delay. After several emails to and from the developer, I flashed CWM recovery :shutters:. I tired to manually restore just the boot.img of the phone rom and still no luck. I then tried using adb to manually insert the boot.img into the nand as the developer instructed. This still did not work. I uninstalled and politely asked for a refund that was granted.
Its a great idea, just needs more work on the original backup of the phonerom, apparently this is a known issue. I lost everything (my fault I know, but i was excited) but I did like decks so much that I flashed it as my daily rom.
I e-mailed their support staff on Saturday evening & got a response on Sunday, which impressed me, so I thought I'd share with you guys what they said.
When trying to install a Synergy Rom, I got the message asking whether this ROM was sd-ext2 or sd-ext4, & never could get them to install (which I'd assume is b/c they all run using ext3), so I shot over an e-mail asking if they had any advice, & here was their response.
Currently apps2sd or data2sd will not work. If you are somewhat savvy with this stuff you can move the files that would go on the sd-ext back to the system or data folder in the zip where they should go. Then make your system.img size big enough to hold all the files of the bigger rom in menu/settings/manually set variables. I'm working on some solutions to do some of this automatically for some of the devices.

I have dta2sd and not about to spend time to undo that for this app. However I hold out hope that they will support a2sd in the future (since i bought it... LOL). And I think that they should state that fact up front in the app description.
On the other hand I'd pay/support somebody $3 to develop this kind of app. There are so many cool ROMS out there that I'd love to try out.
Right now I am running MIUI latest and love it.
I have no problem paying for apps. I only ask for the simple things like the app working properly. I have yet to recieve an email from the developer. I hope that they see this thread. Actually, I may send this link to them. I read somewhere that one of the developers is on XDA.
I just want a working app, or a refund. I don't think that is to much to ask.

I bought boot manager two days after release and I have had no real problems yet, I flash a new test ROM almost every day. At first I had some "user errors" and twice on the first day I had to flash the phoneROMs update.zip b/c I forgot that CM needed a flash of google apps... and the app CANT run without authentication from the market... ("Herp DERP")
other than that, I've seen some ROMs run slow. but I figured that was b/c they where sense based and running from the sdcard.

[Q] Anyone had any luck with boot manager?

Hello, i was just wondering if anyone has had any luck with the boot manager app?
I know this app is not specifically supporting the wildfire atm but i asked the devs if it would work and they told me that there is some code built in which should theoretically support the wildfire and they are answering my emails quickly(i'm sending them a log later to see if they can help me out) i had a few problems at first with installing a new rom but eventually managed to get a cm7 zip to unpack and created a system, data, cache and a boot.img.
When i try to reboot into the new rom i seem to be getting stuck at the splash screen, has anyone else tried this app before?
Its a paid app (with a licence check on startup, so pirated versions won't work) so im guessing there isn't many that have tried it before with it not being officially supported. I'm pretty sure it will work and i've only played with it for half a day but just wondered if anyone else had any success and new of any shortcuts?
Woohoo success, tried for days with cm7 to get this working but it just wouldn't write the images to my SD card, switched roms to senseonfire (even though the dev told me cm was my best bet) and it worked first time, haven't had a good play with it working as yet so can't really say how stable cm7 is running from my sdcard but its definitely working now, and its as simple as rebooting to switch roms instead of rebooting into recovery restoring a backup then waiting 10 mins for it to boot. I can also restore a nandroid backup to one of the 4 slots.

Booting from SD, that's cool. Having you tried using USB disk drive mode?
Haven't tried yet, I'm away for a few days, pretty sure the boot manger app has dual mount built in though, so anyway I've been using cm7 for the last day running from the SD overclocked to 768 and its good, only getting occasional lag spikes but nothing to worry about.

(Fix) JB/ICS extreme lag and non booting issues

I recently have spent a decent amount of time trying to get my inc2 to boot JB without extreme lag(maxed out CPU). I've ran JB quite a few times until one day I overclocked to 1.5GHz and my phone boot looped and could never get JB or ICS to run properly. Its been reported that over clocking over 1.3GHz can break the partition on your phone and even lose root. If u have similar problems this is what I did -
Put the stock ruu GB 2.3.4 on the root SD card as pg32img.zip
Boot into boot loader and click vol up to accept update.
you are now on the latest stock gb without root but s-off will b preserved
download super one click and htc drivers to gain root.
reboot
I flashed twrp thru goo manager cuz that it's what I prefer. Wipe and flashed dkstunna's build 3 with 4.2 gapps and boom BACK TO FAST JB in under 30 min.
hope this helps someone! hit thanks if it did
next I hope to help on the main thread one day, Ive flashed almost every ics jb Rom and would luv to help

Can anyone verify this works? Not that I doubt you OP, just wondering if this has worked for anyone else?
Quick question.
I have been rooted for so long I've almost forgotten how it is done but I don't remember Super One Click supporting the DInc2. Does this mean it does root 2.3.4?
yes super one click works for inc2, and yes it will root 2.3.4. s off is the hard part on 2.3.4 if ur not already, so be s-off. I'm sure this will work differently for everyone cuz god knows why ics jb stopped working right in the first place. I bet kernel source would fix this too...
Well,
Tried it, and it didn't do the trick.
Still no JB for me.
Frustrating!
I'm running PA for months now and it hasn't locked up or lagged. I came from Venom before. I wiped everything except SD card, installed CM10 10/3, booted, flash PA, booted, flashed gapps and kernel. It booted up just fine for me.
I also flashed the firmware in the Venom thread. I don't use v6supercharger, 1024MHz smartassv2, and I undervolt -50.

I was in a bit of a panic cause i was using viper, went to aeroevans 11/13 jb, it worked for about 6 hours and then the massive lag and boot loops started. I couldn't flash any ics/jb aosp rom, I tried mimicry, dkstunna, and aeroevean's cm9/10. all non usable, crazy lag and boot loops. viper seemed to flash fine though.
I did try the solution in this thread and it didn't seem to work so I reflashed viper formatting using aroma. I let it boot and settle. then i formated all partitions in 4ext and reinstalled viper without formatting in aroma and i let it boot and settle, finally i reformatted all partitions in 4ext, installed aeroevan's 11/13 with latest jb gapps and all has been great for the past few days. fingers crossed.
I have tried just about everything. I can't think of anything else to try. I wish we knew why some phones were doing this.
The first thing I remember not going as usual on my phone was MIUI was not installing properly. It would hang on "updating boot" during install. I couldn't for the life of me get it any farther than that. The next thing was a JB NAND wouldn't boot properly, and then it was all down hill.
Back on the same bull**** of bootlooping on cm10. There should be a warning on the viper thread to not install it if you ever want to use another rom.
I don't know why but I'm not having any problems after viper...
I'm so fresh you can suck my nits...
None of us know the answer and that's the only common denominator. I'm just lucky that Miui works or i'd be sol
Uhh so yeah, tried this and it didn't work. Never had any problems with the phone before I got rid of ViperInc. I was on the latest firmware, every ROM flash was a totally clean one, followed the instructions in the OP and CM10 Global is just sitting here bootlooping. I know the dev isn't responsible for what happens to our phones, but multiple cases of the same seemingly unsolvable problem says there's something wrong with that ROM, imho. ****ing bogus.

Didn't say it was cm10s dev problem its the viper dev problem ..its an awesome.Rom but when some problem as bad as this with many ppl affected ..in my opinion I think the team should at least help ..when ppl start seeing this they aren't gonna want to flash this Rom...then there would be no point in developing it unless for the ppl that WANT to stay on sense...all I asked was if the team was aware n if they plan on a fix or a disclaimer that this Rom may poison your phone so it does happen to anyone else ..no need to be a smartassv2 lol I'm just asking and I'm sure a lot of ppl are too

I don't think it is ViperROM dev's problem, nor is their responsibility to help. They make it very clear they hold no responsibility for what happens to your device when you flash their ROM. They are also not making any money from the free rom they put out for us to enjoy, so their is no driving force really behind their desire for "fans" if you will.
That being said, it would be nice if they could help and did. Has anyone directly, and nicely asked Nitsuj or any of the Viper team for help?

after getting JB to work for awhile I decided to flash the .312 radio, booted and 5 min later I get jelly beans to the face... now I'm stuck on viper again. Doubt it. I went all the way except for S-off and re-rooted but it still will not load any JB rom I try. But by all means, it might be worth trying if you're so motivated. Seems like some things work for some, but not for others at this point.
Just got back onto CM10. Was on Viper, did full wipe x2, formatted partitions to ext3 in 4ext Recovery, fix permissions, then formatted cache.
Then...here's the weird part....since Mimicry was the only non GB Rom I could get to at least boot, I tried a clean flash of it. Used only the baseline items in the Aroma installer (only things I installed were the jb animations, trebuchet, v6, and daemon). Booted into Mimicry and let it settle without signing in to Google. Profit!
Next phase was a full wipe x2, flash newest CM10, flash GApps, then format cache.....double profit! Hopefully this will hold up. Will report back once its had time to fully settle.

Sry didn't mean to say it like that but I know its not their responsibility..I just asked if they try to figure this out..I'm gonna try this mimicry method...I hope I profit like twice

I wouldn't call it a method really....I think I may have just gotten lucky

[Q] JUST got Dinc2, rooted, NOW WHAT? (unfamiliar with phone)

First, WOW that was easy! Because the Dinc2 I picked up (after frying my other android) still had 2.3.3 and I didn't let it update!!! I came here and saw all the probs rooting 234 and stopped that mess from happening.
SO EASY. ADK never even used. Downloaded Revolutionary, S-Off in seconds (!!!) and now am in process of getting my purchased root stuff back:
Clockwork Mod
Superuser elite
Titanium pro
But, I don't know JACK about this phone. My old (but lovely) Dinc had a bottom button joystick thing to use CWM recovery with; this has nothing. UI is different (I used a lot of ROMs but this Sense is new to me).
From memory I knew to check USB debugging connected... what am I missing?
Do I still hold power + sound down to get to recovery?
I like to recover my old apps from Titanium but will that screw up on new phone? (I know, my old nandroids are gone, but apps shouldn't matter, right?)
Gotta get good file manager (kept most apks on SD card — see, THIS is why I couldn't do HTC One; gotta have card), but what are "problem directories" that log and send files to HTC and Google? (I empty and make them r/o so they stay empty).
Tips! Please! I knew the ins and outs of Dinc2 asap!
(Ignore whatever's in my signature; that's from yesterday LOL)
Do I still hold power + sound down to get to recovery?
yea
use 4ext over cwm you wont be sorry
download free at 4ext website..google it
Thanks... wow.
Yeah the power button is ****, tbh. Maybe it was screwed up before it came into my possession, but I can hardly tell it's being pressed down. SO that helps.
Now, to freeze or to delete... I couldn't believe the bloatware from VZW!

Or just flash something else. There are stock debloated roms, cm7, 9, 10 roms, chilly has a sweet jellybean rom. Nits has a very popular ics sense rom. Just look in the dev section.

That seems to be the THING to do. Aargh. Problems w/ stock root from 2.3.3: no Play update, which made my Titanium Backups pissed off. Gross **** that was fixed ONLY by flashing gapps.
(And I didn't want to Nandroid until I had stock root working w/out freezing or deleting the bloat first. Everything was working okay, except market crashed like a mother****er. So, gapps. Which made google apps already installed flub up — youtube esp).
So 24 hrs later, things SEEM okay and I did the Nandroid after gapps and fixing what I could find was screwed (youtube) — all google stuff, but that makes since because I flashed gapps. *sigh*
But now I'm thinking it's WAY easier now to grab someone's debloated ROM and not try to reinvent the wheel, I guess.
Can anyone point me to a stock ROM w/ google play working? I can debloat myself if it's not debloated; I sorta have that *now*, in fact. But I'm not 100% confident with my work. TIA!
My favorite gingerbread sense rom was skyraider Zeus. Don't remember if it was debloated or not. Nits has some great sense roms too.
