[Q] Route 66 in Bada 2.0.1 [XPKH1] - Bada Software and Hacking General

guys, has anyone paid a license for "Navigation" ? I can't find a "License Synchronization" option in the program, and wonder whether it's safe to pay or if it still is too early for such a payment.

Unfortunately, Route 66 does not sync paid license in bada 2.0.
In KG6 and KG7, it was a total zero. But in the current PH1, paid license for Safety Camera allows you to sync. But Navigation license does not sync. The maps in bada 2.0 is better than that of bada 1.2. 3D buildings are now free.
We still have to wait for further bada 2.0 beta firmwares (or maybe the official one in Sept) and hopefully the option to sync paid license will be available. Let's watch and pray.

Hi,
do you have licences like in the second capture?

yes, I do. But navigation still asks me to buy a license whenever I plan a route and attempt to start navigation.
--EDIT: Never mind, I got it working!!I apparently missed some files when copying. Thanks again!

Please can you simplify how you were able to activate your old license in bada 2.0.
I cannot find the file "product info" in the folder "Res".
What files did you copy from bada 1.2 Route 66 that activated Route 66 in bada 2.0?
Thanks.

will be enough to Copy one file from from old navigation location (1.2)
/SamsungNavigator/Data/Res/Extras/Europe.navd
to New Location
/SamsungLBS/Data/Res/Extras/

Doing as stated I was able to navigate. Though when you check "Navigation" in the menu, it still ask for license purchase. Simply ignore this menu, and navigate.
Thanks Raitis.

After few days of using Route 66 in bada 2.0, my observations are that lots need to be done to improve this navigation software compared to its bada 1.2 version.
In most cases, Route 66 in bada 2.0 will take you on a roundabout navigation, taking you round and round without an end destination. Even in routes you have travelled severally with same Route 66 in bada 1.2.
The is no option to change travel mode (Fastest or shortest) once you have started navigating. You are offered the choice before navigating. In bada 1.2, you can always change travel mode (even at the mid of the journey).
Colorschemes are unchangeable. I downloaded several colorschemes. Each time I changed to, example say color scheme A, the default colorscheme will still display. Change to B, or C, or D, etc, only the default colorScheme showed.
Maybe this will be solved when Route 66 in bada 2.0 will automatically sync your purchased license without us having to do "copy and paste" in order to activate.
For now, Route 66 in bada 2.0, just like the bada 2.0 itself, is all looks, good looks, plenty of new features, charming designs, but full of CHAOTIC FUNCTIONALITY.

Hi all,
Updated method that works fine for me: sorry it's in french.
http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/gsmgpspda/smartphone/unique-samsung-version-sujet_21066_733.htm#t712940

Yes, I confirm that the method above works perfectly

Please can you confirm that the "product info" is available in your bada 1.2 Route 66 file.
I cannot find that file in mine. See screenshot
Copying only the europe.navd works fine, but in most cases navigation is not correct. At times the Route 66 in bada 2.0 will take you on an infinite roundabout journey without end.
Please let's know where this "product info" is hidden, or possibly is only visible for customers who used a voucher/pin code (and not the Route 66 sync activation online).

Sport GPS software on developement

My fourth message of the day ... I'm inspired !!!
I'm one of a little runners and cyclers group whose want evolve in my sport and use new technology to practice sports.
3 of our have baught and HTC trinity to have an all in one solution : GSM, music player and GPS.
We have test a lot of offroad program, gps tuner,beegps,nimo,noni,... and we are not satisfacted about them... We have ideas which the best program must have but we are so poor programers to do it.
So I would like to know if some of best programers of this forum could make it for us ?
Are you interested ?
We could send you all of ours ideas, with explained pictures ...
PS sorry if it's not the good place to post this ...
thank
Bike GPS
I have a Dopod D810 and I am developing a GPS application for it, mainly because nothing I tried out there did everything I wanted, and was suitable for use on a bike.
My app is a
- Raster-based GPS application
- Music Player
- Phone 'answerer'
- Text message display
- Big buttons (so you can press them while riding)
- Good reliability
I initially developed it for my Dell Axim X51v.
It supports importing/exporting routes and tracks to and from GPX and KML files, and can do playback of tracks. (ie it works with Google Maps/Earth routes and tracks)
It supports importing locations from names files.
It supports maps in TFW, SDW, JPG and BSB formats.
Any music files supported by windows media player are supported.
If you have any maps in one of the above format, this is for you!
wahou !
it's look like what i'm looking for ... without pearhaps a graph which expose speed and altitude during the trip... but i'm so interested ! what is the programation language use ? could you send me sources ?if you want, I can send you some draws to complet with option your soft ?
Its done in C++; sorry, I'm not going to release the source, but I'm happy to get any ideas you have.
oh, I forgot, there's a PC version off the same code base which makes it easier to see playback, build routes, etc. I'll add some speed/altitude/time graphs to it over the weekend some time if I get a chance.
I'll also eventually put the installers on my web site.
ok... it's not a problem that you don't release source... just ... could you send me just how you get speed, altitude and position ... you dialogue with the P3600 GPS... is there library or only code lines ?
My idea...
-make a rotation of your cards in function your deplacement like tomtom.
-on my soft, i would like record precedent trip to do versus when I take the same road. This versus could compare KM all long the time and bip me when i'm late.
-the graph which compare my speed and variation of altitude all long my trip
-instant speed/speed trip/time/km
Initially, I used the GPS API in the microsoft SDK, but its not reliable enough (sometimes it stops signalling updates on its event), so I wrote my own from scratch and the NMEA documentation.
- Sorry, I'm not familiar with tomtom, so I'm not sure what your after with your first request.
- Its not exactly easy to track a previously taken path and map it to the current path, but it could be done. The biggest problem is storage of your previous paths. I have about 24GB of old tracks saved! I'm waiting for an 8GB mini SD !
I'll have a look into the idea though.
- Displaying (and even graphing) current speed/time/altitude, ect are trivial and I already do that. I'll look into graphing.
Is anyone else interested in this app?
I would be interested in this for cycling and hiking.
Sorry for this question but why don't you let members of this forum download sources of your GPS API ? Or directly the API compiled to let other programing theirs applications if it is better than windows API ?
For my application I need only to know :
- Altitude
- trip point (x,y)
- how to solve to have speed (v=D/t)
Have you seen http://gpsdash.com/news.php
I'm always looking for more choice...here is one that many of my sport crazed friends are using. I may start using it for tracking my motorcycle rides too. Here is the software http://www.rungps.net/Wiki.jsp?page=HomeEN . Here is the online tracking server http://www.gps-sport.net/index.jsp .
The reason I'm not releasing source is because I may, at some time in the future, make this into a commercial product and I don't want to ruin my chances with that.
The other is that I don't really think it is of much benefit to most people to release source for an application. I think it is far more useful to make a library of the useful functionality, with a well documented API of the thing, so that people can start at a higher level to implement their ideas. Since I don't yet have such a library, I can't release that either .
I went riding on the weekend (its nice and sunny here), so I didn't get any more done on this.
From other people's responses, it looks like there's plenty to choose from anyway.
Once again, Yannn, there is documentation in the Microsoft SDK on how to access the gps (its called gpsapi).
Finally
I have finally decided to release an early version of this software.
Its at
http://www.lukepaton.com/BikeGPS/
If you are able to set things up for yourself, and want to give it a try, go ahead. I haven't got a huge amount of time to support it, so it might take some playing around to get it working, particularly at first. There isn't a manual or help for it, so go looking through all the menus and see what you can find!
To get started, from the View menu, have a look at settings, and set up your paths and then from the Map|File menu, choose, Re-Read All Maps.
Cheers,
Luke
Hi Luke
Thanks for the release. On first run, I got the message:
"Open File \CF Card\Data\BikeGPSMaps.mdt failed"
When I hit OK it closes. I made this directory path and chucked a .jpg in it and then it ran.
I see in Settings>Paths your default project is pointing to your compact flash card so I changed these to \Storage Card\...\
I have had a good look through the menus, it seems to be a pretty nice useful kit. I like the .sid support and export to .csv, even converts from OziExplorer Probably wouldn't use the player or sms fuctionality though.
Logged some data to the .gps_log file, will try and use it later.
Just can't see where to open map image. When I click open map it doesn't have anything in the list to select... No need to bother yourself with a full user manual, but it would be good to load a map background.
Sorry, I first developed it for a Dell Axim, and an iPaq before that. They have CF Cards...
To get it to have some maps to open, Map|File|Re read all maps looks in the map path (Settings|Paths|Map Path) (Mine is \Storage Card\Maps\).
It prompts you for the kind of files to load (KAP, TIF, SID, MAP).
Yes, MAP is from Oziexplorer - some of the map CDs I bought used MAP files, but the code to interpret map files is a bit of a mess, and it doesn't support oziexplorer ozf files...
After that, Map|File|Open Map|All Maps should give you something to open.
You have to select a single map (multiple selection is for delete).
Anyway, its good to see that someone could even get the thing installed
Cannot access menu, progrram will stop after prompt of missing file, it is not installed in memory card/data either. Also shortcut is missing.
Hi Fimae,
I used resco to add a shortcut, but the install program is supposed to put it in 'programs'.
Not sure what you mean by 'cant access menu'. There are about 7 menus, not including popups. Is the main menu visible?
See above about storage card. I'll make it allow you to browse for the storage card the first time it runs.
Thanks for your feedback.
Luke
Now I'm all motivated
I've done an update which should make it easier to work out whats going on when first installing. It will prompt for the path to your files.
At the first prompt, enter /Storage Card/, or wherever your storage will be.
It automatically creates Data/ and Maps/, so put your maps under /Storage Card/Maps/.
The web page now displays the last version and update date.
what about the mount ???
Hi, plz tell me if ur using any good cycle mount to hold trinity securely on the handle bar? where & how much u bought it for??? Anyone???
After trying Arkon mounts and a few cheapies, I found the best was a metal case,
(like this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Metal-Hard-C...yZ150774QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) attached using double sided tape and a cable tie!
The problem with the Arkon-style mount is that they don't hold the device securely enough and are too bulky.

I ment that program stops to error dialog, and when i click it ok, application exits without seeing any menus. But now it worked wery well after writing \Storage Card\, thank you wery much.
I know this must be stupid question (like where is the any key) but i really does not understand what kind of form i have to use to copy maps to Bike gps? I have route66 and tomtom navigator maps (and for testing only miomap) in my storage card, i supposed that i cannot use map files from those apps?

Navigon Select GPS Navigation for WP7

We've discussed this in a few other threads already, but figured it was worth a separate topic, so here goes.
As some of you are aware, a certain German carrier bundles Navigon Select with their handsets. Thing is, they only include maps for Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. That's obviously great for the fine people of these countries, but not so much for those of us living in other parts of the world and have imported a WP7 device from Germany.
There is a rather simple solution to this. What you will need are the iPhone maps (version 1.7) for whatever country you are interested in, these come as an .ipa file which is basically the iPhone's equivalent of .xap - they open fine in your favorite archive utility such as WinRAR. I'm not going to go into detail of where to get hold of these maps as it is borderline piracy even if you do own the paid for iPhone version, instead I will assume you have the .ipa file accessible on your desktop computer.
So, to start, make sure your WP7 device has been jailbroken using Chevron. Secondly, peform the registry hack to have your WP7 device show up in Windows Explorer. Once you've done this, install TouchXplorer onto your WP7 device as you will need it in a minute.
Now, extract the maps from your .ipa file - they are located in a subdirectory named "maps" and named country.map. Once you've extracted the ones you need, simply drag them onto your WP7 phone in Windows Explorer - this will copy the files onto the device. (note - make sure Zune is not running)
Once the files are copied, start TouchXplorer on your device and go into \My Documents\Zune\Content\0400\02\. Here you will find all the files you just copied onto the phone (note - they are now named 050.z or similar). Select the files and copy them. Now, navigate to the \Applications\Data\6F9CB464…..\Data\IsolatedStorage\map folder and paste the files. This will take a few minutes (depending on how many maps you extracted). Once finished, select each of the newly copied files and rename them to the correct filename, i.e. country.map.
That's it. You now have all of these maps available to you in Navigon.
The Navigon app is also available as an XAP from various places on the net, however I will not provide a link (not will I send you a link by PM) as I don't condone piracy. Using the iPhone maps as outlined above I do not consider piracy as I do happen to own these. Also, one could argue that since Navigon are so far not selling these for the WP7 line of devices there's no harm... although let's not discuss semantics
This sounds great. I will try it.
Do you know if there is a way to make Navigator WP7 speak/look different than English or German?
Guessing the voices could be copied over also, files do look alike. As for the UI, not without some coding, but its definitely doable.

Any idea how we do the file changing stuff on the phone when the phone isnt HTC? As far as I know touchXplorer only works on HTC phones... those of us with Samsung Phones (myself) or LG, Dell might be S*^T out of luck here....
Please keep this in SW Development.

I'm using it since yesterday, finally working navi for WP7. Two problems and one question though:
1. It's awefully quite, i have to turn the volume to about ~20, and then pray nobody would call me, because OS is super loud in this settings
2. VOICES, how can i change VOICES?
Q. 3D VIEW depends on map, or on application?

Polish voices are allready in the app directory, I've chcecked thoce 3 config files in isolated folder but there are no voices configuration. Language also cannot be changed, after that Navigon will get an error and download configs again.
Solution: Rename polish voices to english and german and overwrite those in app folder.

How is this warez? If you own the iPhone maps already getting them to run on WP7 should be covered under 17 USC 117 (Making of Additional Copy or Adaptation by Owner of Copy). Obviously dependant on where you live, but for me this would not be considered piracy in the eyes of the law. Also, I did not post any links to downloadable maps or .xap's.

You're SOL for the time being. If you have some idea about writing code you could patch up the dll to either copy maps directly from the .xap (though deployment would be crazy slow) or download from a webserver of your choice though.
This is of concern to me also as I own two Samsung Omnia 7's where I will need this once the Brodit active car holder arrives (been told it ships this Friday). If it's still not done by then, and Navigon has not come back with further information on when they plan to release in the marketplace I'll look into this further.

I think, ideally the thread should be moved to the Dev subforum in the generic Windows Phone 7 forum though, as it's more of a WP7 thing than a HD2 thing. My bad for not considering this when first posting.

Depends on the software. IMO the Navigon Select software sucks, but having spoken to Navigon they say they are releasing a "full" WP7 client early 2011. Don't have any further information that that though, but we can hope they will bring it up to the same level as their iPhone app.

Yes, I've got maps installed for all of Western Europe and North America (as that's what I had already purchased for the iPhone) - works fine. As a test I mapped a drive from southern Italy to the north of Norway which seemed to give okay results. Didn't even take too long to map the route.

I confirm that Italy maps works with it
I got it running. Brilliant. The thing I was missing.
But still it's not TomTom. But I can live with it for the moment.
I installed Benelux maps without problem. But no 3D yet. We have to wait for the 'full version' lateron I guess.
Still trying to get Dutch voices copied. Will report.
THANKS FOR THIS.

Open Filenames.xml from app folder on your pc (use those new file explorer to easly exchange files between pc and phone) and then change filesize of english usa and gbr to your voice size. Then copy twice your language and rename it to usa and gbr files. Then just overwrite and run app. It will not download them from network anymore.

No, that's the right one - just go up one level (to DeviceProperties or so) when you've found the Zune entry and you'll find them.
I've attached a file with two .reg files which will sort it out for you though.

Well... 2 things killed my excitement here... 1st being that I cant actually load maps on because I definitely do NOT have the coding skills required to make an XAP to load the maps where I need them too... Although I might look into it as I have a day off. I highly doubt its something that can be learned in a day
Second is this doesn't have 3d view!!!??? What the hell!? This was the main reason I wanted Navigon. I've had it (and tomtom) on every windows phone Ive had for the last 5 years or so. They release an app that doesn't have 3d view support? This totally boggles my mind. I suppose this just really says something about lack of BIG app support for windows phone 7 though. These have been out for a while now, and developers had access to programs to develop these for launch and nadda... I went back and looked at the videos of the program in use on youtube and yup! No 3d view. I think I was always just so excited to finally have something better then bing maps on here that I over looked I never saw it switch into 3d. Thing is, as it stands right now this is no better then bing maps! Theres no voice input support like Navigon has had in the past (which Bing has)... and at least Bing has satellite view to make up for its crappy navigation downfalls *sigh* I have no doubt this is ACTUALLY better for navigating then bing but bing is so integrated into the phone its just a no brainer to use, clicking an address from the calendar or website etc etc. I realize 3d view is just eye candy but........ It's the best part of these programs as far as Im concerned.
I loaded Navigon on my phone last night hoping there might be some way to load the maps on today. I'll leave it on for the time being but other then that.... this probably wont get much use.
Damn it!
Just for S*^T's and Giggles can you give the exact path that the maps get sent to so when I start trying to make an XAP file to install the maps I can code this in properly. I need to know the values of the "..."
Also would this even be the same location on a samsung phone?
Thanks

[Q] Need to create an apps that is for or agents, and not for everybody else

Is there a way of creating and deploying an wp7 app that would be only available to our company agents.
As far As I understand this you can only deploy any app via the Market Place - this is useless for any internal business application.
Do I need to wait for better mobile device management or is there away around this ?
Any pointers appreciated guys.
Two ways to do it, the way I see it...
1. Add the program to marketplace, but require an registration number to be inputted in the program for it to work.
2. Side-load it

1 might, but we all know how well registration models work (cracks)
this might be a job for phone-home drm.

This would probably be the best, especially considering that your agents probably need to login anyway.
But I think that you won't pass certification if they can't test the app.
I don't know what your company does, but maybe you could release an app that is many targeted at your customers and everyone could use. This app could then have a hidden setting to enable special functions after a agent has logged in.
Microsoft are planning on supporting this in the future, their current suggestion, IIRC, is to use some sort of login though.

Kin & Xna Framework 3.1 (prev. Random Madness)

Hey, i was playing a bit with some files here and there, so i faked Xna to believe that kin was a zune (i'm a ninja) and then becoming asleep when suddenly i launched the first non-official app on the kin.. although it didn't work.
It's the result of a bad deployment of a XNA game template, which runs till the loading part, where it's broken and does nothing.
On the other hand, it's listed on the recent apps tab, and i was able to re-do the deployment. I wasnt able to redo after some time, even rebooting the Kin.
Yup, i know it does nothing but... makes you wonder if working apps can be made and yak yak yak.
Fyi, i was able to reboot succesfully but the app must be in a temp space, cause it didnt showed anymore nor in recent apps, nor in the menu. Kino showed me that there were no further files, other than mines.
i thought that a video would show things that are real and ... well.. all. So it's attached.
I wont tell how it goes in the very end till i'm able to reproduce it, and also, cause i *cough* modified *cough* some file in my windows to do so (not distributing them, for legal reasons and so). In any case, i would just tell how to get the same file, through a process.
I h4ck3d this thing, now, where are my cookies? (just kidding)
Edit:
Disclaimer
Ha! Before doing anything, this is going to scr*w your XnaFramework 3.1 Zune capabilities, so.... backup first, backup first... did you backup?
Ha 2.0. This is you, doing it personally. If it's not legal there (?) i take no responsabilities from what you do. If you crash your windows/zune/kin... i won't pay it.
Procedure
- Install Visual studio 2008 c# express (or 2008 if you have it... legally and so on) for free from microsoft.
- Install the Xna framework 3.1 (I also installed 4.0 but... it's not going to work for other tests i wanna make... so.... i wouldnt do it)
- Install the Xna framework 3.1 zune extensions
- Install a hex editor ... my favourite is HxD but others, like ultraedit32 or... [insert other here] will work. Notepad is not a hex editor.
- Look for "XnatransZ.dll" under "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\xna" (or just common files will only have one or two inside). There are Am64 folders with it (64 bits) and X86 (32 bits), of course, you are going to edit the one you use and so....
- Backup... remember to backup... backup... man, do a backup. Then open the file
- Search for the following HEX pattern: 5a 00 75 00 6e 00 65 00 00 00
(which is "Z.u.n.e..."). Make sure that on the right side on HxD shows Zune alone and not "Z.u.n.e.D.e.v.i.c.e.", or so. Replace it (overwriting left side on Hxd) with: 4b 00 49 00 4e 00 00 00 00 00 (which is "K.I.N....")
- Save the file.
- Now use the xna device center to add a new device, and pick a Zune (yup, a zune). Kin will appear there if done correctly.
Explanation
Why this change? Well, seems like it's pretty much stupid things around.
First i thought that as there were only a few models of zune, the xna would have the PID and VID values for their devices.
Then through *magic process* i saw that it just looked at the "Zune" text and compared it with the devices on the system. So i changed the zune driver info to name the Kin as "Zune" (haha smart approach huh!) but the Zune software is sooo smart, that it changed the device name under device manager... Wow!
So... i checked that file and ... through *magic process* i found out that it checked the devices statically (using "Zune"), so as i couldn change my device name, i turned that string into ours: "KIN" and.. magic worked...
Surely, not going to help us... but it's kind of a weird thing that it worked "as is" (Xna detects the phone as compatible) even if later it says that the needed runtimes werent present at the phone (it's ok, the files for gaming aren't probably on the kin).
That means that microsoft could modify the Xna to let development on the kin, but was out of it, not the kin market i guess.
hmm.. if this XNA application doesn't appear on first page... then how did you launch it in the first place?
Any way of receiving already made apps?
You wrote to phone's unreachable memory?
Tutorial?
Too many question? umad?
Try to get one of the phones apps and see how they are coded so you can get one to launch

Deployment launched it if i had the device connected, in a non error state, and with the screen showing the home (apps) window. IF it was with the screen turned of, it didnt showed anything (quite meh). Then i realizzed that it was on the recent

When is repeatable or a working thing. I said, i modified files which is not the same as redevelop things. this is clearly a hack (of the files, not the device itself).
Great to hear of more potential progress here.
I'm curious, JohnKussack... was it my comment about XNA a while back that led you in this direction?

Unfortunately, not. I was inspecting the Xna software for about 1 day or more before posting this. A few days before your post, i was able to upload anything with KinO and tried it without success.
This comes from *other* ways, which we have no idea about how they work. I will skip the part where i found how it all works when looking for a "Zune".
I've been experimenting with all the kin related test for a year (not continuosly) and went curious about "why Xna device center doesnt recognize the kin?". The answer is pretty much stupid: because it looks for the Zune.
I updated the first post about how to operate with the Xna framework, although it doesnt let you do anything, it's a lame thing.
Pretty cool findings, man. So are you able to duplicate this on both the TWO and TWOm versions of the OS? Are the results the same?
(actually, I don't even know if your current working device can be switched between the original and M versions of the OS)

I prefer not to play Russian Roulette with RB+power option, and getting a kintwo or a brick atm. If i was on verizon coverage area... mmmm might be. I'm getting this on my new phone, which is a Kin Two M (2 yellow dots model to be exact)
I will try to send programs till i figure out what could work or i get bored. In the end... microsoft abandoned the kin, so unless we test things... we'r stuck with the phone.
maybe one of this lame programs lets us read(even only reading) the normal filesystem.
In any case... i will try some helloworld!
I could kiss you right now
johnkussack, I've been reading all of your posts on here and... wow. I'm amazed at your knowledge and how much you have been able to figure out. You are so close to getting apps on this phone!
I know nothing about Windows hacking/development, but I have had experience with Android development on old WM6 devices. The hardware on this phone is capable of running android, the only thing stopping it is not being able to test the builds. If you figure out how to get apps to launch, one of the ones I suggest you put on your list is Haret.exe, then maybe we can send the android files to the phones storage and... well, I'm rambling on and on right now. Anyways, here's what I am thinking after reading all that you have done:
On my old Env2, the device was locked to only run BREW games, which was a pain because you can't torrent them Flash games couldn't be launched from the SD card or the internal memory, but some genius figured out that the calculator and the world clock were flash apps. So by connecting your phone to your PC and using bitpim (at least I think it was bitpim) you could replace the world clock or calculator with 2 flash games, like pac man.
So, I'm assuming that the apps already on the Kin are .exe or something, couldn't you just replace the calculator on the kin with a file system explorer?
You probably know all of this, I hope this post helped in some way and didn't just waste your time...
Good Luck! - Jeff

The main complication with this is, we haven't found any way to get access to the main file system of the phone (the one containing the Windows Mobile OS files). BitPim gives access to one small area, and MTP (using John's KinO software) gives access to another area.
If we could find a way to gain access to the main operating system of the phone, then we're almost assured victory.
@Jemilio3 Thanks for the compliments hehehe.
As was very well explained by Klamation, we do not have access to the filesystem where the OS is (at least for now), we are kind of stuck with what we have.
From my past experiences with a win mobile 2003 pda, the system will be a fixed rom memory, user available space (configuration & temp values) and a storage card (our storage now).
So when we CB reboot the kin, just configuration & storage are cleaned.
I'm still operating on what to do with my pc, the disk is half dead, but isnt sata, so no replacement easily... reinstalling on another external disk to test things....tomorrow
There are several things to test by now:
-test for deployment tools on the xna3.1
-deployment of apps using xna 3.1 and openzdk deploy tools
-xna 3.1 deployment with visual studio (for ages testing)
.... a lot hahaha
It's very strange that the device is so locked down. Music and videos sync to the main memory, right? Maybe the solution isn't to hack the device, but to hack the program that syncs the music.
I wish I could help with the testing, but the only Kin I have access to is my dads, so I can't mess with it. Maybe I will call the people who made the Kin and see if they will help us.

We already tried this. Microsoft, Sharp, and Verizon didn't help much. They mostly dropped support for the phone.

You are more than welcome to call. Past experience is you'll get a run-around of people telling you to call the other company, if you're lucky.
I've tried calling a few people (within Verizon) and basically reached dumb tech support people. (minor rant, how can you work in tech support when you are a self-proclaimed "non technical person"??)
If you do contact anyone more than the customer service and tech support staff with no information, like somebody who advises you to contact somebody else, please take note of whom they say to contact, and their own name/contact information. If we can actually get the right people, or at least get a lead on the right people to contact, maybe we can make progress within the companies.

If you ever need parts or anything im sure all of us on here are willing to help, including me.

That's what KinO is for .
The OS memory and the music/pictures/etc storage is different, so only apps should be able to use it.
@soninja Thanks . I guess that i will use one my several external disks instead the zombie one, but yesterday i had to classify ~200gb of info & videos into others before formatting it and reinstalling linux. My data inside was a mess rofl so it took about 4 hours.
In any case, thanks to awesome71717 & some random analysis i did on the kin mtp, i saw that most of the MTP commands used on the Zune HD app deployment are present on the kin MTP commands list, so at least deploy is available, even if it's not using XNA code, but c# code or so.
I know this might be a stupid question (this is really my 1st phone I've ever worked with)
but is there a way to push an XNA framework to the kin or something along those lines or would that just be pointless work?

Probably easier to just test what works from the xna or c# examples. I dont want to deal with microsoft things more than needed. Legal issues and that things. I try to draw a line there.
I'm not 100% sure I understand how this all works but have we figured out how the browser adds links to the main menu? Or possibly where this is located?
What are we able to access at this time?

Thanks for the heads up. Any differences you noticed compared to "regular" version?
Save your money and buy something that's worth it. CoPilot is worst navigation system I have ever seen!
I bought the full European version for £29.99 instead of £60.
It does annoy me that the USA Version is only £2 for Standard and £6 for Premium!
Navigon is a sack of sh1t compared to this (IMHO).
Each to their own, personally I think it rocks and for the money you cannot complain!
I bought CoPilot v8 at the beginning of May, when I got my S2. It cost me just over £20.
ALK have confirmed there is no upgrade path and all they will provide existing users (along with everyone else) is this 7 day, 50% discount.
After having a quick look at what this new 'Premium' versions offers, I think I'll be saving my money and wait for v10.
A reviewer wrote:
Stick with V8. Glad this wasn’t an upgrade!! V9 seems to have forgotten what SATNAV is for. Suggested routes are ridiculous. Every route needs editing, not good when at the roadside and all you want is to get from A-B. No routing prefs Shortest, Quickest etc. Road prefs if not on neutral make things worse. No town\city location display. Often looses gps fix. Display on Wildfire has grey pixelated areas and chopped off icons. ‘Not fit for purpose’ in many areas. Needs to be fixed – quick or Refund please!

Maps for the region your purchased are free. E.g. I bought UK and Ireland version (those maps are free). I can additionally purchase maps for other regions (e.g. Western Europe).
Regarding the voice, screenshot attached.
Overall this version is great. The UI is epic compared to the last version.

That is a very fair review I would say.
As for the maps, that may be true, I am not sure, but I don't believe it is. I think the cost of the Copilot app includes the maps.
There are additonal 'bolt ons' available within v9.0 which cost extra. I have paid for Traffic (£9.99 per annum), I would have paid for Fuel Prices (4.99 per annum) but it is not available in the UK presently.
The best part for me is the upgraded registration process. In v8.0 it was a nightmare and if you wanted to change from one device to another, it could quite literally make your brain bleed. It is easy in v9.0.
Overall, I am very happy, I am just jealous that I do not live in the US where this is extremely cheap. The cost of maps must be less for Copilot over there I guess.
Someone told me that CoPilot do not integrate with Android Contact
This should mean that it isn't possible to invoke navigation from an Contact address ... is this a fact (or a joke)?
If you're talking about selecting a contact in Android's Contacts app & navigating to it via CoPilot, that doesn't seem to be an option -- instead of opening CoPilot, it takes you into Google Maps. It may be the case that Android doesn't provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app; Google wrote the OS, so they set the rules.
However, you can select your Android contacts from within CoPilot.

Android do provide the hooks to allow third-party apps to be called from within their Contacts app. IGO My Way is one confirmed example.
Is Copilot as good or reliable as tomtom? Tbh, I still find myself using my htc touch diamond for satnav since it has tomtom navigator on it. Honestly, all the other satnavs around are crap from what I've tried. They all have some fancy features or graphics which are nice or better in some way (like I use google satnav sometimes and it speaks actual road names which is cool, but no speed camera warnings) but overall, tomtom is the only one I trust and feel comfortable with and which holds my hand down every road. Can't wait till tomtom hits android.

Thanks for the correction -- good to know that. I've been on Android for only a month or so, after having used WinMo since Windows CE 1.0 back in 1996.
BTW, I've seen several people mention IGO My Way on Android. However, I can't find any reference to it on Android Market, nor can I find an Android version on the IGO website. How does one get the software?

Problems - just me?
Hello all
I'm having real problems with mine at the moment. It locks up constantly usually when a planning a route but often when navigating and sometimes it hangs the phone too.
Mine's a very standard installation, not rooted and the phone is stable otherwise.
It might just be me but if not I'd say it's a long way from being release worthy.
